Sure, but then you get a full set of emulators too. Consoles tend to be better on the cutting edge for games, but then they quickly become bad for any legacy software. The opposite is true for PC.

it just comes down to which platform's extra games you prefer. by extra games i mean the ones that aren't on the other console. otherwise it's more or less the same thing.

It's actually kind of funny to think that back in the 7th gen, there was a big complaint from developers about hardware differences and the difficulty of porting games between 360 and PS3, but now we have relatively homogenous hardware, games have never been more milquetoast. They're bland, uninteresting, and full of bugs.
the xbox is a more powerful hardware wise but due to Microsoft's incompetence the PS5 runs games better most of the time.

Judge settled it. Xbox is in last place, PS5 is ahead because it's the better console, Switch is the best console because it's portable and has games, and PC is better than everything because why would you play anything else when you already own such an ultra luxury item.

For a while, PC back compat was actually getting worse because of Microsoft's incompetence. Older games would continually break (especially those from 2000-2010). Proton unironically fixed this.

But yes, coming down to games, if you have a PC you would prob go PS. PS exclusives are pretty mid, but they are there. MS is trying to be a big publisher, so they care less about what platform you play on and more that you play their games/subscibe to gamepass. Without a PC I'd go xbox since imo it has better games, better ui, better controller, stronger system, and gamepass gives you flexibility to try a bunch of random games but is head and shoulders above PS subscription.
