now that the dust has settled what will it take to make Godot "good enough".
>INB4 Godot will never be good enough to develop on
with enough support and development anything can be good. Godot might be shit now but it will be a realistic option for people to use before unity EVER will be again.

FRICK OFF, GO BACK TO UNITY
its scared
A poor craftman blames his tools
A good craftman uses the right tools for the job. Unfortunately godot isn't good for anything but the simplest games.
Stop posting, nodev.
>nodev
Where the frick do you think you are? This isn't /agdg/, so take your troony lingo somewhere else. You're all going to be replaced by AI anyways.
>t. Pays for addons
why isn't it?
This is true and people should frick off back to unity.
>A poor craftman blames his tools
Using Godot to make a game is like trying to hammer a nail with a Bannana
how so?
He can't program
why is it shit and unusable, mr nodev?
You or anyone posting in this thread don't make games and don't have enough knowledge to have anything interesting or insightful to say, you have no reason to care or post about any of this. Stop making threads forever.
You should have given up on that sentence and tried restructuring it, ESL-kun
unitygays are mindbroken since it turns out that their precious engine is now malware
stop shitting on other engines and make your own if you don't like them
what will it take to make Godot "good enough"
Godot needs Blender treatement AKA more porn

It's good enough for 2d games but lacks 3d support for certain features so doing large scope games might be problematic, especially open world
It also has less documentation and programmers but that's gonna solve itself
What features?
if you compete in the formula 1, would you rather drive the car that won many races or a car that never even qualified for the competition?
If I had the money to get into that, I'd design a new car
we're not talking about cars we're talking about video games
not a good analogy.
more like:
>would you prefer to build a car you own the rights to completely
>or would you prefer to build a car that you have to pay a fee for every time someone looks at it.
ive been working on a mahjong game in godot 3.5 for a while and its been going good! the only major issue ive run into with the engine is that replacing your model files is such a pain you need to make a new instance again and over-write the old one and re-setup all the scripts on the nodes. im using import scripts to make it easier but its a little nuts i have to write out scripts just to re-setup all the nodes into the right positions and attach the right scripts everywhere
What do you mean replacing model files? If you mean switching assets at runtime then you should set up your node structure so that the mesh nodes are self-contained and separate from the hard logic, which is instead maintained by a Node3D parent for example.
Also 4.0 has a replace node function, wtf are you doing in 3.5?
I mean like
I have a GLTF for my player in in my assets folder
I would like to replace GLTF with new GLTF because I made some model changes to the character model/rig
Just replacing the GLTF in the folder doesnt update the related instance I created of the GLTF with the new version so its still stuck as the old model.
The only way around it I've found is double clicking the GLTF, creating a new instance and saving over top of the old one and that updates it but it's way more annoying than in unity where you just update the FBX and it updates it automagically everywhere the model is used
Works on my machine. I'd just update, the pain of dealing with relatively minor breaking changes is better than staying with old versions.
Hmm seems like they fixed it on their github I need to give it another shot because last time i checked was around Godot 4.0 release
https://github.com/godotengine/godot/pull/57606
I'm still not sure about Godot 4 production wise though. I was using Godot 4 for a game jam game recently and the amount of times I was asking myself "Is it my code broken right now or is the engine totally fubar'd" made me a bit uncomfortable to use for a game id like to sell at some point.

GOOD MORNING SARS

What do you call this phenomenon where entire faux-discussions happen between people who only regurgitate secondary information and try hard as possible to seem insightful despite clearly not having anything to say?
It's called reality. Enjoy.
It's called stop liking what I don't like
it's called Ganker
What is it about that logo which just exudes homosexualry
wheres the godot games?
only notable one that springs to mind is cruelty squad
