That frick killed me a good four or five times, and when I beat it I still didnxt really understand what I was doing.
It seemed to have a blindspot beneath it, but it could just outfly me randomly and/or fly out of bounds, so I still would up having to kite it back into bounds so I could fly under it again.
Then of course therre's the fricking posture mechanic

My only real gripe with the game are toggle boosting and stagger. The former I just plain don't like since it takes the fun out of moving an AC around for me, though at least I can actually fly up unlike 5/VD. The latter feels too much like it came from a different game.
I'd say its much better than the PS3 games, but not as good as the PS1/2 games.

It's really good. If not for the stagger mechanic, which this series did not need and doesn't really add much to the game, it would be up there with LR and SL. The amount of care that went into the game is very obvious. It does drag on at points and I personally miss the short missions where you kill a few MTs and shut down a generator that take ~3 minutes.
Let me take that back. It is up there with LR and SL but it is not better for the reasons I outlined. AC6's second part or AC7 could be perfect if they learn from this one. Usually the second in a generation is better.

I like the stunning aspect of it but the whole bonus damage part I'm not a fan of. Why not just make the slow, hard to hit weapons deal more damage and be done with it. I also miss the old bazookas, but I haven't really used them with quads yet to abuse them without the stopping thing.

But they do? It's just important to take note of the weapon type, not really what it's supposed to represent. Explosives have decent damage and ridiculous stagger, paired with AoE, most energy weaponry (especially the slow ones) deal absolutely ridiculous damage, but have next to no real impact. Kinetics are in between and some weapon types are tailormade for bypassing specific defenses or exclusively used for impact.
But the discrepancy between damage to a stunned or non stunned foe is quite large. I feel like this just exists to fix the melee weapons beating everything in two hits from 4th and 5th gen. I just liked the feeling of "oh I actually landed that grenade cannon" whereas here you stagger first and hit it no matter what. The risk from using those weapons is now completely offloaded to waiting for a yellow bar to fill up.

The pile bunker is a fairly good example of why. If pile bunkers always did stagger tier damage they'd need to have no range again. Which has predominantly been the reason they completely suck outside that one crazy jap in the lobby. This basically gives them a window to be stupid good without becoming a problem. So high damage weapons don't need as many downsides, while still having the fun big damage and usually big stun.
Overall though I am kinda eh on the mechanic. Now I'm running doubler zimmers I barely even pay attention to it, and I'm kinda hoping we see builds focused on general rotation along side stagger builds.
Stagger is literally the overheat of this game and is there to punish bad evasive or defensive moves. The game would be far worse without it.

All ARs and machine guns. Pew, pew, pew, stun gauge full, reload pitiful 18-30 round clips, miss stun damage. Complete trash. Heavy weapons take forever to reload so you can’t even capitalize on the stun. You have to balance shots with the stun gauge and always come out losing.
All ARs and machine guns are either meant to be paired with melee or dual wielded for suppressive fire. ARs in particular are great for RJs doing keep away aerial combat at midrange.
You know you can just manually reload prior to the stagger bar reaching 100% so you can unload on them right

The bosses have a souls feeling to them with all the phases, staggering and constant dodge you need to fight them but it isn't as bad as other people say it is.

Honestly it actually IS armored souls. The ui is souls-like and they brought boss and level design from souls into their missions while keeping the old shit too. People just assumed it would be completely dark souls then but it is really just armored core with knowledge from souls making it better.

A lot of people (me included) are very hostile to From because ER was so blatantly and unashamedly derivative and just a retread of something they had retreaded over and over already. I have not played or looked into this game much but I genuinely do not believe From are capable of doing anything now except regurgitating Dark Souls for their fanbase that will always buy it and make excuses for anything. I didn't feel this way until ER where it was just so uninspired and lacking in new ideas I could only conclude that this was simply all they wanted to do. I genuinely do not see how anyone else could play the game in good faith and come to any other conclusion unless they never played a souls game before.
If AC doesn't have souls design and mechanics slotted into it I will be absolutely stunned. I am not surprised to hear in this thread stagger made its way in. I bet there is also a 'minimalistic' low effort story where all the interesting stuff happened to npcs before the start of the game who either do not appear or appear for 2 minutes, say and do nothing and die, while the combat is just entirely based around memorizing patterns or running cheese builds and damage racing. Damn bros, never touched AC and feared I'd regret my purchase here, but I'm having a blast. 10 tries on helicopter, 30ish on Balteus and it's been smooth sailing since. Sea Spider ain't shit, my speedyhomie shotgun hornet mech is though. I may have shot myself in the foot though, every slower AC build feels like shit now.
Personally all slow mechs feel like shit.

double shotgun double missile mosquito build can carry you through the entire game as long as you keep upgrading your parts (reducing AC weight -> using the bigger shotguns/missiles) but the last boss will require you to git gud, arguably more than balteus.

newbie to armored core and fromsoft in general since I never played the games because I fell I would be the reward that unironically break something for it being so hard. But I have to say the game is kind of forgiving atleast so far. They let you rebuild your mech whenever you die and even resupply you when have longer missions, even though I died a few times atleast per boss I don't get how people get into the 40+. Favorite weapon is galling gun

Indeed it is impossible to enjoy AC6 without a love for mecha because there's nothing else to the game. If the mere sight of a mecha doesn't excite you then it's a lost cause.

It's 100% the player playing with his digital mecha toy in various and short battle scenarios and nothing other than this precise aspect matters in AC6, the game will not try to engage with you on any other ground. Beware if you think "sure mecha why not but surely the game's good no matter if it's about robots or not".
There's stuff to not like about mecha but the in game creator is unequivocally and objectively impressive and a powerful tool in a videogame.
Never really dabbled in mecha stuff but I think this game has got me interested. People keep talking shit about it but I just like the fact that I get to build a robot and get into intense fights. Also the aesthetic is neat.
It's possible to grow a liking to japanese mecha by playing this. If brain sees mecha and then thinks "wow cool" then AC will be enjoyed, even if the neuron activation happens some hours into the game.
My point was it's not a game about interacting with a setting or about difficult challenges of pureskill or about telling a memorable story with characters. Since Armored Core is almost unknown people expect to be met with things like this so they play a bit, grasp at these aspects and their hands grab air. Then they come and write "boring" in the threads. AC is really fricking specific.

The first game is usually pretty easy and then the expansion games build off it and up the difficulty and add more parts and options. Which I imagine this time would be DLC.
What made Last Raven so good?
LR was the end of about 10 years of upping the ante and just jumped right in without a lot of filler or hand holding while having a tight story and 6 different paths.
It's really obvious what it's pulling in missions like "Eliminate Suspicious Force". Yeah the guy betrays you, whatever. If you reload and prep for it and back up though? He stops fighting, and they surround and stunlock you instead of the normal spawns. Ok, so there's a measure in place. How about if you back up and fight back? He hovers in place forever in your blind spot waiting for the last shot and his first shot stuns you. Also it scripts the last shot from the grunt units to always break a part - if they miss every shot, the last one will always damage you.
Garage UI was a massive improvement
hourly countdown gimmick was cool that changes the tone
Jack-O is a cool character that jerks the player off
Enormous amount of parts built up over many years of PS2 development, balance was about as good as AC gets from all the effective playtesting
And basically it's a final exam for everything you learned playing all the PS2 games, only the postgame 100% completion boss from AC2:AA even begins to compare to the regular bosses of the hard LR paths

Great, but certainly not a replacement to your favorite AC game most likely. Think it’s the best case modern transition you could expect realistically from AC after 10 years, but it feels like this would have been the AC game they would have made after Verdict Day even if it was 4 years later. Just maybe a lot less polish.
Give me the direct sequel or expansion though. I want my more weapon types, weapon arms and extensions to come back.

This is pretty true, I remember being surprised by how easy it was to install good units for cooling while still compensating for other stuff, you can even tune parts to add cooling so there was a time where I almost completely forgot that I could overheat
I only hated heat whenever some homosexual ass enemy AC in SL spammed some weapon designed to build up your heat ASAP, gay ass design though since you had to completely respec to counter that cancer strategy.
Boosters (other than OB) literally didn't generate heat until nexus.

The missions are too short. Everything ends in like 5 minutes or less even on shit you've never done before. I have fond memories of much longer missions way back in the older games. Walking through labyrinth type corridors feeling lost.

My only complaint with the Balteus fight is that I needed to back out completely to go back to the store to buy the pulse guns despite being able to access the garage just fine. Only redeeming quality is improved move sets and Arena is still fun.

my only gripe with the game is some of the bosses being such moronic sponges that spew a billion projectiles per second which you can't reliably dodge. my usual go fast lightweight type of mech falls flat in big boss battles and I have to fall back to a big gun tank. I simply do not have enough damage output to get them before my defences get overwhelmed. may be a skill issue but sure doesn't feel like it so far. dodge is unreliable when you have a hundred missiles to dodge and they track you from offscreen. or melee attacks that start up while you're in the air and you don't have enough time to land or energy to dodge. it almost feels like they designed some bosses for iframe dodges but then removed those in the last second.
other than that I really like the game.

I beat him just a short while ago with this set up. Linear Rifle and Pulse Blade for first phase, switch to Pulse Gun when his shields are down and after he hits first phase just stick with that since getting close enough to use the Pulse Blade doesn't seem worth the risk considering how much damage his flamethrower does. Went as light as possible and got the best QB Thruster so I could reliably dodge missiles and get clear of his flamethrower.

I beat it at around 13.5 hours, and I've since done NG+ and NG++ with 22.6 hours of playtime. Once you push past the initial spikes the game isn't so hard.

There is no threat in the beginning of any old AC game that is iudex-gundyr hard like this frickin helicopter. I love PS2 games, because once you're good you can do whatever the frick you want and land precisely where you want how you want. Your AC is super responsive and controlling it feels fricking incredible. 6 feels, idk, floaty. You are either not boosting or constantly boosting and gliding. You fall slowly. Quick boost is back and does the evading work for you (basically a roll button).
Melee weapons have tracking and a long cooldown, paired with "posture break" it feels video gamey in a bad way, especially against bosses where it kind of becomes "simon says" shit

I ended up taking the rebel path in my first playthrough following my own inclinations but now I realize that it would have been more optimal to side with Carla first given that was the basic b***h ending and NG+ unlocks more RLF missions. Does NG++ change anything more or is it the same as NG+? Considering ignoring the RLF and speedrunning a quick corpo run just to see it happen.

Now I haven't gotten too far into the game (just beat ch1). But I've been told it gets much harder going forward and that most encounters require "specific builds" for your ACs to solve. This raises a question for me.
Do you prefer games in which they require "specific builds" to solve the difficulty or ones that let you play whatever you want to solve the difficulty?
since the game went "sell parts for buying cost" there's no downside to experiment with builds and no grind that would normally come with it

I had the same mentality until I hit the chapter 4 boss, I was able to keep the same build until then but it's such an insane difficulty spike if you can't stagger quickly.
I miss building generalists and conquering the singleplayer + arena while playing around the weaknesses. It was so much more fun than just "pick the missiles to beat nineball seraph"

I never summoned and had trouble with it because I'm not used to fromsoft giving advice and didn't realize they give bad advice on purpose. Frickers tell you to dodge and use terrain and shit when you're supposed to bumrush it with your sword.
How in the name of everliving frick are people having trouble with this? I can understand having issues with Ibis if your loadout isn't prepped for it (just shove the giant laser shotguns onto your back for instant stagger and stab it to death), but sea spider shouldn't require more than a single attempt if you get surprised by the 6k damage spin and Balteus is a fricking weakling who can't deal with people who jump. Once again, you should lose once or twice and then know his attacks.
Anyone got any tips for beating the Sea Spider? I keep getting staggered and hit by his cancer laser cannon

I just floated over him (regular boost not even quad legs) and 90% of what he did couldn't even touch me. Plus I was right over him the whole time so he basically spent the entire fight staggered.
Melee it a lot, the lasers that can shoot under it are weak. Use assault boost to fly under it as it charges its cannon. It can't 180 in time or shoot under. The only one you have to care about is the spin cannon, so just hug the underside and stab it.
