the yellow bar under the boss, use your rifle until it has to reload then shoot missiles to keep the stagger up, then use the rifle, add melee when you can to keep the stagger

Why does the HDR look so washed out?
The only game I've ever used HDR on is Destiny 2 and it works very well in that, trying to with this and it just washing everything out and makes it look muddy as hell.

I have a 3080ti and have noticed this with HDR blurays, after a reboot they work consistently but if I've had my PC running for a while and open/close HDR apps it eventually stops working correctly and appears washed out despite my TV showing HDR is enabled
Rifle and missiles fill the stagger gauge. Get underneath it and keep shooting. When it staggers, click the left stick for gigaboost into a sword attack for massive damage.
It fires 4. If there are 4 small targets it'll do one each. Otherwise it'll just fire them all into the one target. You can see your lock on as the little yellow circle that fills around the enemy as you hold R1.
You need to man up. I died first try because I was playing like a gay. The moment I manned up and rip and tear I tore him apart. Don't wait for stagger to use sword, use combat boost to close gap and frick him up with sword.

- the helicopter boss was straight BS. it's not THAT hard when you remember that the game has dark souls heals for no apparent reason, but the ranged attacks aren't reliably possible to dodge and even when you stagger it, sometimes it's out of bounds so you can't actually punish it with the sword

It's new, and very much welcome. In past AC games melee weapons were just a back-up you used when you were conserving/out of ammo or when you had a blatant opportunity. Now you can actually build around them which I'm very happy about.
In previous games stagger was binary. You either tanked a hit without flinching, or if incoming hits stagger value exceeded your “poise” you got knocked around. In the air you just dropped like brick.
People are joking about the helicopter boss right? There's no way people are having trouble with that. This is my first AC game and it wasn't hard at all. Nothing has been hard so far and I just beat the giant eye laser boss and I've just been using the default robot from the start. I havent changed anything.
Anyone else running it at 4K but it still looks like it's outputting everything at a lower resolution? Like yeah it's running well but it's fidelity seems kind of low (I turned off dynamic resolution and it still looks the same).

controller feels natural to me, it's designed for controller. Though I did swap r1 with r2 and l1 with l2, which makes it feel more natural
I might also swap the buttons for quickboost and normal boost
with a mouse you might get better aiming, but it shouldn't make much difference outside of pvp anyway

Took me 3 attempts to get the helicopter, guess I'm rusty. Not sure how I feel about the stagger meter, if it leads to over the top anime moves then that's dope.
Use the stagger meter less as some kind of abusable combat loophole and more as an identifier of when to close in for a punish. If you see it's almost full, throw out things that will land by the time you're ready to hit it with something that's stronger when staggered, get into position, and slam it as a combo.
Eh, It's okay. Ammo is a boring mechanic solved in five seconds with weapon bay and the game is really easy if you just throw on tetrapod and hold down machine guns and forbiddingly hard if you want to play some kind of sword and revolver meme, but cheese has always been an AC staple really.
So far I've only died a total of 3 times and all of them were to the Juggernaut. My excuse is that my AC is middleweight and that boss is designed as a light AC test.

thoughts on the handgun? ammunitions seems really limited and it ricochets alot, ran out of ammo on the juggernaut boss despite placing 99% of the shots in it's back and ended up killing it by punching it.

it's meant for point-blank usage and builds stagger more than it does damage. you're supposed to kill things with melee.

nah, i was just expecting to not face tank every mission with my starting gear for 2 minutes a pop. like when i customized my gear i got noticeably worse and less fun, and even then the missions still felt insultingly short.
i beat the tutorial boss. took me four or five tries, seemed quite difficult for the first fight of the game.
i feel like i do no damage until i suddenly start doing tons of damage, i haven't figured out the posture system and i don't really get the shield stuff. keeping track of that while dodging five thousand fricking missiles is hard. does the shield = the sekiro posture bar or is it something separate? i found i would always die during the first boss because i would get stunned but i'm not sure why i was getting stunned and i wish the game had a better tutorial to explain that shit.
also, the arena size for the first boss seems like a huge blunder, more than half the time i tried to go in for a melee the fricking boss is sitting four inches outside the invisible wall. complete horse shit
yellow bar at the bottom of the screen is your stagger, if it gets maxed out you'll be stunned and eat shit from the boss. a single volley of bullets/missiles will also shred about half your HP even without stagger, if you fail to avoid them.
yellow bar at the top is enemy stagger, it also shows up on the smaller targeting reticle for regular enemies, but most of them die before they get stunned.
staggered = armor break. get hit during it and eat shit.
Is this worth playing on the PC? I remember feeling like I was on the wrong platform when playing Elden Ring on my rig. No UW support (I mean it was supported but black bars get fricked lmao) and capped to 60fps. Felt like FROM was holding a gun to my head and gesturing to my PS5, collecting frickin dust in the corner.
120fps and ultrawide support here, the M&KB controls are weird since left click is left arm, right click right arm, but it's a doable PC port. Just make sure you got a good CPU, that seems to be the big determination of how well this plays.
I'm on 2k, 120 fps (the max) with all max settings. 2080 slightly overclocked. Runs perfectly, although I haven't done any majorly huge levels yet. I use keyboard+mouse but my controls are completely rebound (I'm using like 5 side mouse buttons) and it feels pretty good. The PC experience is very solid although all my screen caps are greyed out for some reason. Hopefully the fix the screen cap issue
KBM is fine but I've always played AC on a controller. I picked up one of pic rel today just for release. Couldn't get my Dualshock 3 working. You can unlock manual aiming after some arena fights so if that's your thing KBM would excel.

I have the game installed on SATA SSD and it takes 3 secs to load too.
I think the assets for each mission are just small enough for fast load times. It's just terrain, maybe 5 types of buildings, 5 types of enemies, boss, and player mech. Probably under 1GB to load into the RAM.
They also had to design the game for ps4, so each mission has to fit into the 6GB RAM or whatever ps4 has available for games.

My game literally loads in 8-10 seconds on a samsung m.2. There's either something wrong with your drive, it's installed on the wrong drive, something wrong with the drive or something wrong with your Windblows install

Why does the HDR look so washed out?
The only game I've ever used HDR on is Destiny 2 and it works very well in that, trying to with this and it just washing everything out and makes it look muddy as hell.

Just to add, while this monitor does support 10bit color and Wide Color Gamut, it doesn't have sufficient peak brightness or something like dimming zones to properly produce a pleasing HDR image. It's always just going to look blown out.

It's a known nvidia/windows driver bug that causes the incorrect color space to load in HDR.
Restarting your PC usually fixes it until certain games randomly cause it to break again, namely capcom and fromsoft games.
I have a 3080ti and have noticed this with HDR blurays, after a reboot they work consistently but if I've had my PC running for a while and open/close HDR apps it eventually stops working correctly and appears washed out despite my TV showing HDR is enabled
just try restarting the game with the hdr settings saved. idk it worked for RE8

Have played this series since the beginning but having a tough first boss is clearly a dark souls influence.
Rifle and missiles fill the stagger gauge. Get underneath it and keep shooting. When it staggers, click the left stick for gigaboost into a sword attack for massive damage.

On the subject of missiles, how come sometimes they go to one target, other times they spilt between targets?
Multilock. You hold the button, select your targets and release and they will hit multiple enemies.
It fires 4. If there are 4 small targets it'll do one each. Otherwise it'll just fire them all into the one target. You can see your lock on as the little yellow circle that fills around the enemy as you hold R1.

my first impressions are:
- why are the controls so fricking stupid? default seems untenable, so i switch to type b which is basically like AC4 but less good because they insist on removing the contextual horizontal/vertical boost differentiation
- the helicopter boss was straight BS. it's not THAT hard when you remember that the game has dark souls heals for no apparent reason, but the ranged attacks aren't reliably possible to dodge and even when you stagger it, sometimes it's out of bounds so you can't actually punish it with the sword

It's new, and very much welcome. In past AC games melee weapons were just a back-up you used when you were conserving/out of ammo or when you had a blatant opportunity. Now you can actually build around them which I'm very happy about.
In previous games stagger was binary. You either tanked a hit without flinching, or if incoming hits stagger value exceeded your “poise” you got knocked around. In the air you just dropped like brick.

Nothing has been hard so far and I just beat the giant eye laser boss and I've just been using the default robot from the start. I havent changed anything.

You will basically need to learn how melee works and get used to speeeeed. The missiles are fast and you can't just i-frame them

I might also swap the buttons for quickboost and normal boost

Took me 3 attempts to get the helicopter, guess I'm rusty. Not sure how I feel about the stagger meter, if it leads to over the top anime moves then that's dope.
Use the stagger meter less as some kind of abusable combat loophole and more as an identifier of when to close in for a punish. If you see it's almost full, throw out things that will land by the time you're ready to hit it with something that's stronger when staggered, get into position, and slam it as a combo.

Eh, It's okay. Ammo is a boring mechanic solved in five seconds with weapon bay and the game is really easy if you just throw on tetrapod and hold down machine guns and forbiddingly hard if you want to play some kind of sword and revolver meme, but cheese has always been an AC staple really.
So far I've only died a total of 3 times and all of them were to the Juggernaut. My excuse is that my AC is middleweight and that boss is designed as a light AC test.

i beat the tutorial boss. took me four or five tries, seemed quite difficult for the first fight of the game.
i feel like i do no damage until i suddenly start doing tons of damage, i haven't figured out the posture system and i don't really get the shield stuff. keeping track of that while dodging five thousand fricking missiles is hard. does the shield = the sekiro posture bar or is it something separate? i found i would always die during the first boss because i would get stunned but i'm not sure why i was getting stunned and i wish the game had a better tutorial to explain that shit.
also, the arena size for the first boss seems like a huge blunder, more than half the time i tried to go in for a melee the fricking boss is sitting four inches outside the invisible wall. complete horse shit
yellow bar at the bottom of the screen is your stagger, if it gets maxed out you'll be stunned and eat shit from the boss. a single volley of bullets/missiles will also shred about half your HP even without stagger, if you fail to avoid them.
yellow bar at the top is enemy stagger, it also shows up on the smaller targeting reticle for regular enemies, but most of them die before they get stunned.
staggered = armor break. get hit during it and eat shit.

Is this worth playing on the PC? I remember feeling like I was on the wrong platform when playing Elden Ring on my rig. 120fps and ultrawide support here, the M&KB controls are weird since left click is left arm, right click right arm, but it's a doable PC port. Just make sure you got a good CPU, that seems to be the big determination of how well this plays.

I'm playing at a easy 4k 90fps on my end. It's really smooth man. I disagree with you on elden ring, but at the same time I don't play on ultrawide.
I'm on 2k, 120 fps (the max) with all max settings. 2080 slightly overclocked. Runs perfectly, although I haven't done any majorly huge levels yet. I use keyboard+mouse but my controls are completely rebound (I'm using like 5 side mouse buttons) and it feels pretty good. The PC experience is very solid although all my screen caps are greyed out for some reason. Hopefully the fix the screen cap issue

KBM is fine but I've always played AC on a controller. I picked up one of pic rel today just for release. Couldn't get my Dualshock 3 working. You can unlock manual aiming after some arena fights so if that's your thing KBM would excel.

That's why the whole point in Mission 1 was to recover an ID so you'd impersonate an officially licensed mercenary to do work.

Game is fun but I went back to the first mission to try and S rank it and frick that .Helicopter is hard with what the game gives you, after going through the mooks getting the data logs

I doubt it. It would be very unusual for FROM to use some new fancy tech like DirectStorage for a game like this.
I have the game installed on SATA SSD and it takes 3 secs to load too.
I think the assets for each mission are just small enough for fast load times. It's just terrain, maybe 5 types of buildings, 5 types of enemies, boss, and player mech. Probably under 1GB to load into the RAM.
They also had to design the game for ps4, so each mission has to fit into the 6GB RAM or whatever ps4 has available for games.
I'm not playing it with a keyboard no matter how much you shill it keytroons.
