WoD was far worse. It was a rushed and blatantly unfinished product that answered a question no one was asking (yo what if the orcs DIDN'T drink the demon blood??? who gives a frick, they are functionally the same and end up doing the same thing, invading Azeroth). The Mary Sue, Yrel, had even less personality than Zero does, and the main antagonist had absolutely none of the charm that any of Endwalker's antagonists have had.
Also it was literally unplayable on launch because everyone got stuck in the flight path trap when you try to fly to your base. I don't remember EW's instability being as bad.
Endwalker at least was a satisfying conclusion to a long-running narrative, finally answering just why the ancients felt Zodiark was necessary, and it had enough twists and turns, emotional moments and desperate struggles to keep the audience engaged. Most of the things that were bad about it came after launch, in the patches. WoD was bad right from the start.

Funny enough they finally gave the TBC cinematic draenei paladin a name and personality in WoD, Maraad, only to kill him off a couple zones later. Yrel endures but is immediately removed from the plot because players like her too much.

Yeah, it's not a coincidence at all. They actually spell out exactly why Amon is deranged. It's because Kairos erases memories by flooding the subject with aether which causes memory loss. But as a side effect, it also sears memories into the soul with that same aether. So Hermes's soul was forever seared with the Endsinger's message that everything is fricked and nothing matters. Hermes himself was not a villain, he was an antagonist who correctly diagnosed a major problem with his society and completely fricked up in trying to address it.

The Endsinger on the other hand was the conglomeration of many dead worlds full of seething despair ghosts that were furious anyone would dare to have hope when they couldn't find it.

Even if he had captured the single Meteion, that would have done nothing to stop the Endsinger. It was already coming. For Hermes, he believed that mankind would absolutely not fall to the Endsinger and he wanted to take the opportunity to make them confront something like that so they wouldn't continue on that suicidal path. He had absolute faith in mankind, and he was right. They did beat the Endsinger, and only because they were forced to fight it.

Hermes was absolutely a short-sighted hypocrite. Even so, his failure to properly vet the query he installed in the Meteion is a different issue.

But they hadn't, and this gets displayed most heavily after the Final Days when Zodiark is summoned. The Ancients had a major problem in that they were addicted to pleasant feelings. They had gotten to the point where, rather than treat death with the respect and weight it deserved, they wanted to pretend it was funny and happy and not a big deal. When Zodiark came, this problem continued. They didn't want to face what they'd been through. They didn't want to grow and continue on. They just wanted to make it go away and return to cozy NEET days. That was the big problem Hermes saw, because it was the same mindset that allowed them to just end life casually and say "it's not a big deal, we'll make new ones", or kill themselves and say "oh but it's actually a good thing!" If they had treated death with the respect it deserved it would have been fine, but that's not what they did.

As I recall the devs have long been pretty specific about their wording on what happened with Louisoix' ritual. He recognised that despite the dangers a grand summoning was their best bet to counter Meteor/Bahamut, but he did his best not to make it another regular primal summoning that would make another belligerent 'deity' to slurp up aether and enslave people. So he does the sealing spell to stop Bahamut from moving, and then "calls on the power of the Twelve" to drain Bahamut's aether rather than try to summon the Twelve themselves (presumably precisely to avoid creating evil primal versions of Eorzea's deities, but instead channel the power of prayers into a spell to destroy Bahamut). This doesn't have sufficient power to hold down Bahamut though, and then Louisoix uses the aether floating around and all the prayers for Eorzea's future to create a new primal out of himself (Phoenix), which then does incapacitate Bahamut for a good while.
As for what would have happened in the hypothetical situation that Louis consciously tried summoning the actual Twelve proper, who the frick knows? The Twelve were Ancient constructs, but primals are kind of a different deal since their creation methods were very specifically poisoned by the Ascians.

You're close but what actually happened was that he began a summoning of the Twelve, and then at the last second reworked it into a sealing spell. Because it was imbued with all the faith of the Twelve it was insanely powerful, and he could use the same faith to do shit like call upon Althyk to send WoL into the future. But what he is specific about is that there were primals forming there. He just basically changed the resulting shape. It goes to show how batshit powerful Louisoix actually was.
As for the post you're responding to, if you check the triple triad cards you'll notice the Twelve do not have primal symbols on the cards. They seem to be very, very similar to Hydaelyn and Zodiark, but they are not actually primals. I think they're closer in nature to the Loporrits. But in function they are still pretty much primals.
Another thing is that a primal summoning need not call EXACTLY the soul intended. Like, when the Ixal first summoned Garuda, what soul became the core? Was it the commander of the Garuda airborne unit? Was it some random soul that just got twisted into 'Garuda'? If Louisoix began a primal summoning of the Twelve, there's no guarantee it would specifically call Thaliak's soul. It might grab a random soul and mutate it into the Thaliak primal. Or maybe it would grab the soul of someone heavily associated with Thaliak, the same way Ahldbhar was considered to be an avatar of Rhalgr.

The thing is, in ARR they're pretty clear that when a primal is summoned, it's summoned around a soul which then becomes permanently associated with the primal. You can even see this in EW with Ysayle still remaining Shiva inside the Lifestream. Plus the Twelve this very patch said that they were formed around the souls of Venat's collaborators.

I've always thought of Quetzalcoatl as a proto-Zodiark. If you actually look at the arena's floor, it's shaped like the Elidibus sigil. And at each corner of that arena you have the Zodiark statues they had in the Chrysalis. And Quetzalcoatl himself is a winged serpent, which is what Zodiark was depicted as in FFT and FFXII.

it almost sounds like they should make the game about skill expression instead of raw numbers. the highest DPS you ever reach in a raid is at the start of a fight and it only ever goes down and down outside of a burst phase at the end of phase transitions with resources but the fight and job design is basically anti-expression
Yeah, even with Dragonflight people basedface over the new talent trees but at the end of the day it's still just Single Target/Cleave/AoE prebuilds that you endlessly swap between without any actual strategy or brainpower.
It's a fine line to walk to offer players utility or playstyles without giving them a way to do higher dps in specific scenarios. Everyone, intrinsically, wants to perform better after all an the main advantage of a talent system is offering players a system of incremental gains while they're levelling, rather than any kind of complicated framework in the endgame.

The Ancients had a concept of deities beyond them, which they frequently refer to during Pandaemonium. So there may be actual gods. Or maybe they just had an invented religion. Either way, Ultima is heavily based on the Ivalice Ultima which is an angel created by the actual gods of that setting. So there may be something there.
Ultima's defined as extradimensional even in XIV's setting iirc so it's not out of the question that it's a god or angel from another world interfering, same as Red Girl and the machine lifeforms from Nier butting in on the First and they've ascended to becoming the gods or angels from Drakengard

As a loregay since 1.0, I prefer this for the most part. I like the mystery, the speculation. I like having the question raised as to whether something actually involved a god or not. I really love the Kojin questline for this reason.

This can be kino if handled right. I also played FFXI and all the lore there regarding Altana and Promathia is my favorite lore ever. They're explained, and somehow they still remain aloof. They still feel like something beyond the setting even as they constantly influence it.

I think that by the nature of FFXIV story, there wa no way it could have gone any diferent. There is a limit of how many calamities a world can go trough before people start to question were are the Gods. If the tweleve were true Gods that created the world, then they would also be a massive plothole.

Deep Dungeon spam is fast at some levels, Bozja is fast for some levels, and dailies like roulettes can give a level.
dungeons will give you a level up after two runs at pretty much any level, so if you're doing only dungeons it's like 40 minutes per level. It's not the fastest leveling of MMOs but it's not the slowest leveling in MMOs either, I thought it was fine.

Dungeons around your level (besides cap dungeons) give a lot of XP. They're genuinely the fastest way to level healers/tanks since you'll typically get fast queues.

even with instant queues and good clear times it's still going to take you ~30-40 minutes per level.
In World of Warcraft, as an example, someone going fast can hit max level from 1 in 7 hours reasonably. 7 hours in ff14 would only net you around 14 levels if you're doing dungeons to level exclusively.
Even if you have friends to grind with you or get crazy luck and are doing 15 minute dungeon runs in ff14 the grind is a bit longer than the most popular other game in the genre

I already consider the levelling speed in XIV to be reasonable.

If you're not trying to be optimal you can already mix it up and use different methods. When I leveled up alternate classes I would sometimes do deep dungeons, sometimes do bozja, sometimes do fate spam, sometimes do dungeons. The EXP income was different but it wasn't THAT huge, even doing sidequests adds up a bit.

They took steps to change things to be more simple in SB and kept doing it down the road
The change of simplicity does not ever have hardcore raiders in mind, the simplicity aspect is to net as many players into the grind as possible by making it more accessible
By being more accessible? They gain more subs for a longer time because the players that wouldn't do high end content before are doing it now because it is easier
