Why would you want artificial exclusivity to keep consoles relevant? A cheap gaming laptop has better performance than a console and only costs a couple $100 more with the added benefit of being able to comfortably browse the internet, pirate games, not having to pay for some dumb internet subscription, having access to more games and having the option to play with M+K or controller.
The only reason to buy a console at this point is if you're extremely poor, in which case you shouldn't even waste money on a console, you're some moralgay that refuses to pirate or you don't play online games

I think the issue here is that console makers got lazy and instead of designing the machines from the ground up, they just made glorified computers from available parts, making all of the consoles essentially the same and very easy to port between.
I might just be talking out of my ass here though.
