You don't know anything about the topic, mutt
Tencent has zero control over GGG, their deal was they buy the shares to share profits, but that GGG remains in full control
The game would have been ruined back when the deal happened like 6 years ago if Tencent had become able to have any say in development

this shit should be able to run on 2080ti at best lmao...

Maybe look at PoE2 recommended system specs on Steam, and look at gameplay, the graphics are top of the line and as an ARPG in the endgame the screen will have hundreds of enemies on screen at once and lots of effects popping off. It will definitely require a beastly gpu especially for anyone who wants to play in 4K.

Actually stupid or just baiting because you have nothing better to do with your life? Yes, they have zero control over GGG.
The deal was very much public and everyone knows the details of it. They paid 1 billion for the original small crew of GGG, in exchange for getting % of future profits but under the condition that GGG remains fully in charge.
PoE wouldn't be 1% as good as it is if Tencent was making any decisions for it. The game has remained 100% GGG in soul and fair monetization for all these 6 years since the deal. Stop being a fricking moron.

nothing impressive whatsoever, unless this game has 1 million enemies on screen at once there's no reason for this game to require 40xx series, even 20xx is a stretch lmao

Well you obviously most don't know what you are talking about. The staggering number of effects on screen is very performance costly. And again, the recommended system specs are available, stop pretending like they don't prove you wrong.

What do you not understand about this? There is not a single Tencent staff member working at the GGG offices. How does your moronic ass think they can control GGG, when they have zero legal rights to give them orders, and don't even get to be involved at their studio.

kek, this guy thinks screen shake effect and ground pound vfx requires a 40xx series...

Obviously you have never played PoE so you should stop embarrassing yourself. There are constantly thousands of effects on screen at all times in endgame gameplay. PoE already requires top tier GPUs and PoE2 has much better graphics.

the real question is why would someone buy a 4080 for $1,000 when they could put up another $800 and get a 4090 so they don't have to worry about GPUs until 2030. even $2,000 isn't that much when you're using the card for 6-8 years.

          He has a point.
Why upgrade mid-tier every other generation? You end up with extra unused cards. What are you going to do with that?
Sell it? Pain in the ass, you have to worry about scammers. Those that will receive your 4070 and say they only got a 1050. All market platforms side with the buyer, you'll be fricked.
Not to mention you'll always have mid-tier performance.
Compare that with getting xx90. You won't need to upgrade for decades. You'll get top-tier performance for at least half a decade, then mid-tier for the other half.

Because amd is only somewhat optimized for games. It's encoding it's pretty terrible, the rtx cards actually use 100% of the functionality of a GPU including games, like AI,VR, number crunching you think of it.
Game tech wether you like it or not is evolving to utilize DLSS/FSR which RTX cards can do both and DLSS is more optimized.
AMD is still a solid option if all you care about are games

Don't care, I'll enjoy my 3060ti at 1440p for the next two years before upgrading. What games are people playing where they NEED a new card every fricking year? What is the mindset of your average consoomer who cums in their pants every time NVIDIA releases a new card? Look, people are free to do whatever they want to do with their (or their parents') money but I don't understand the mindset of the person who owns a 3090 and then "needs" to buy a 4090 the very next generation. Why? So they can get 170 fps at ultra settings in 4K on AAA goyslop game No. 37 instead of 145 fps? Or do they legitimately need the extra power for content creation?

      Anonymous

      >Or do they legitimately need the extra power for content creation?
In some cases, yea. The top-tier consumer cards like 3090/4090 are de facto professional-grade cards that appeal to people who do graphic design, image processing, etc. Not sure what the actual percentage of people who purchase such cards are actually using them for that purpose is, though.

there are only 1-2 games that are AAA console ports requiring a $600 GPU to play comfortably without using the lowest settings.
Every other game runs on a 1650 at 60fps because it turns out 5% of the total users on steam use the 1650, then after it's the 3060 (which is about as strong as a 2070).
also 1440p is always using DLSS/FSR which means it runs at 1080p.

Nah I've been in 1440p/165Hz the whole time, I just kind of panicked when there was the short string of releases that were challenging the 8GB cards. Plus I knew I wasn't going to do anything with my old 3070 so figured I'd offload it before the secondhand prices drop any more.

          [...]
that's exactly why i went with a 4090 despite being at 1440p. right now it's extreme overkill but over the next 2 years that is going to subside and as soon as it doesn't deliver solid 100fps anymore i turn on DLSS and get another 2 years until i even consider upgrading.

I'm coming from a 1070 too, and I will admit I was tempted by the 4060ti a bit, but the memory bus and 8GB VRAM is going to REALLY start hurting soon (like early next year) so I decided against it, even the 16GB one isn't better because having 16GB with a 128-bit bus is pathetic, you can turn all your textures on high and watch as the game starts CHUGGING because you have enough VRAM to store the textures on initial load, but as soon as you need to start streaming new textures it's going to shit itself (like on level transition or geometry streaming in open-world games)

I'm going for a 4070S at the end of the month because I'm really fricking tired of waiting at this point, but if you are tight on funds, I would say to go for the 7700XT or 7800XT, both are better value all things considered and they are the cards I was mulling over going for last month, but I REALLY want to have somewhat capable ray-tracing because it's the only graphical innovation in years and I wanna see it, and also because I have been using upscaling to play modern games on my 1070, I have seen just how blurry FSR can be, but from everything I've seen DLSS really is just THAT much clearer, so I'm willing to pay extra to get both of those features at the cost of less VRAM, but for anyone struggling financially, go for AMD, they honestly are better value for money at this point, especially in rasterization

I bet you are still stuck with 1080p so 4070 would be more than enough with your CPU. And you will be CPU limited in many games. Majority of 3xxx cards are cucked by 8GB, so unless you can buy cheap used 3080 12GB I would not bother. And that card is power hungry if you don't tweak it.

        Anonymous

ine is a pre built and (I haven't check in a lil bit) I think I have a 650 watt PSU. Alright I have 3 hours of sleep so lemme get this straight. I can get a 4070 but it would be preferable if I get a 3080 12gb but used and if it even shows up for non chucked prices?

          Anonymous

3080 12GB and 4070 have nearly identical performance BUT no frame generation, much higher power draw.
4070 should drop in price to around $500 so you would need to find ~$350 3080 to make it worth the risk.
650W is on the edge if you don't UV 3080.

The 4090 is the best quality/price ratio but the price is so high it's not comparable. The budget quality/price choice (prior to the Supers) would be 4070 Ti but it's not even close to the deal the 1060 was. Everything else is badly priced compared to those two - again, before the Supers.

I expect the 4070 Ti Super to be the best choice among the new cards but we need to see real benchmarks first.

Oh fugg, what are the go-to upgrades now? People say AMD CPUs are better than Intel these days but I dont know anything about AMD.

      Anonymous

I had an i7-6700k until about 6 months ago when my MB died and I was forced to upgrade, so I read WAY too much about current CPUs in order to catch up

Intel dropped the ball due to pride whilst AMD came out of the ashes like a fricking phoenix with ryzen, I was convinced they were dead after bulldozer (I always bought AMD CPUs until my FX-6100 shit the bed, then I got the i7 and swore I was done with AMD after I saw how much better it was)

Ryzen chips come in 2 flavours: normal and X3D, normal are really good, but the X3D chips are just ridiculously good for games. AMD somehow figured out that they can just dump loads of L3 cache into the CPU die to MASSIVELY benefit games.

Intel just lost their way by about the 10th generation, and as of this exact moment I would say they REALLY need to get their shit together, because their CPUs: cost more, don't perform better in games, have higher power requirements, consistently get so hot that they thermal throttle themselves.
It's not even a contest at this point, if you mainly play games and are sticking with Intel, then it's out of brand loyalty and nothing else, an i9 is almost double the price of a 7800X3D, but performs the same in games, and worse in every other metric except productivity and workspace programs, where it has a SLIGHT advantage

as far as GPU's go that's a whole other story: Nvidia got greedy as frick, AMD managed to improve a lot but still aren't as good as Nvidia in a lot of ways, but at least they are priced better and have more VRAM. Intel tried stepping into the race but tripped at the starting line because they forgot they needed to make working drivers, and even now they are playing catch up in pre-DX9 games, as in anything on directx 8 and under runs like SHIT on intel's cards (if they run at all), so if you like old games they just aren't an option, which is a shame because their GPU pricing has been great, and more competition is needed in the GPU space ot make pricing competitive

4070Ti is the most similar performing card this gen (3060ti was roughly 60% performance of the 3090, 4070Ti is roughly 60% a 4090). Its $800, not $400 so not really the same.

        Anonymous

4070S will be nearly the same performance as 4070Ti, so $600 still too much but it won't get any better.

The 4060ti costs the same amount as the 3060ti and also has about the same performance if you want to donate $400 dollars to Nvidia for an RTX 40 series sticker.

Nothing has really challenged my 2080 yet so I'm just going to wait for 50 series and I'll probably upgrade then regardless of if I need it to run games just because my GPU will be over 6 years old by then.

Nvidia's problem is that you were able to pay <$500 and play games for over half a decade.
Their solution is to give you the absolute bare minimum necessary to play games right now knowing full well that you'll be forced to buy something new within the next two years.

If you want more usable VRAM at an even remotely reasonable price you have to buy AMD.

        Anonymous

Which is extremely ironic because the only case where you need huge amounts of VRAM is for AI, which does not work with AMD GPUs.

Less or no support. Just look at Blender. Even the lowest Nvidia card beats the best AMD card (7900 XTX) in Blender.
AMD just doesn't care for non-gaming.

$475 from 2016 is ~$600 now inflation adjusted. And you can get a 12Gb 4070 super for it soon.
We only recently started getting latest gen only multiplat games like AW2. Should be more than half a decade for that to happen for the next console gen.

      Anonymous

Cuz israelitevidia loves cutting corners to maximize their profits, besides that way they force your ass to buy a new gpu every new gen.

For a new PC I suggest you get a Ryzen 5700X with a b550 mobo and an RX 6700XT GPU for the best price/performance and you can reuse your ddr4 memory kit you already own. Now the new 4070Ti Super that is coming out by end of month is also a good pick if you still wanna use israelitevidia and want to take the jump to 4K.

Some here would say to get the 5800X3D instead, but since that costs the same as a 7700x on AM5, then I would get the newer one, only problem its that AM5 mobos are expensive, but unlike the 5800X3D which is the deadend, you have an update path when new AM5 Ryzen comes out, 8000 series was already anounced btw. 5800X3D is worth it for those who already were on AM4 years ago, now if you are buying new, I dunno, I would prefer to check the used market if thats the case, and I think you should anyways, theres lots of good deals these days on 6 and 8 core CPUs in general now.

What are you on about? Intel has returned to godhood with 12th and 13th gen (14th is still amazing if you're upgrading from 11th or older, but is a 13th gen refresh and has no real benefit if you're already on 12th or newer) while AMD is still a house fire. Intel hasn't been a lost cause since they (finally) got out of 14nm hell.

        >Intel has returned to godhood with 12th and 13th gen... AMD (CPUs) are a house fire

These "poorly optimized" "games" are really just like that because of the minutest detail of color and lighting, etc. they're simply going for a tinsee tincy amount of more color (because they know the affect (yes, affect) of color) across 4x as many pixels and that just seems to destroy these benchmarks. AAA game studios want to distinguish themselves so they are going hard in the color palette right now. It's where the money is at. Remember gta online? How fricking yellow it was? Sort of like a...filter or something? Can you please stop saying poorly optimized now?

That shouldn't even be a question consoomers have. See

I unironically hate people who buy 60s and 70s. I really just don't want that shit infatuating the market. Like a 3070, alright alright, as long as it's in good condition and an even better price but a 4070? You just hate progress. You might as well be using a i3-processor which is like a fricking pentium

Why are they making the 4070ti straight up obsolete with the 4070tiS ?

Why not. It's already been a year.
6 months after 3090ti they released 4090 which was 25% cheaper and 50% faster.

They should make the 4070 obsolete by giving the 4070 Super 16 GB and actually offer a product that can compete with the 7800 XT from AMD. But Nvidia is too moronic for that.
That or they wanna get you to pay a premium for the 4070 Ti cause frick poorgays. People who spend less than 800 bucks on a GPU are worth less than dirt for the funny leatherjacket guy.

        Anonymous

What a great idea. They should remove the RTX from all GPU's under x080 in each series and return them to GTX , that will save a load of poorgays complaining they can't run ray tracing at 120fps 4k

          Anonymous

What do you mean? You think Nvidia actually paid for their AI and raytrace technology? They didn't make shit - All they did was giving away free GPUs and hardware to universities and the people there developed this technology for them.

Which is nothing new or surprising. AMD make their stuff opensource for that reason alone. Not to mention all the times Nvidia just bought companies and their techology like Physx and made it pretty much exclusive to their hardware even though it originally wasn't.

Nvidia is the Activision Blizzard of hardware makers. They never came up with anything good on their own - they just bought up all the promising technology and claimed it as their own.

3.5GB was plenty of VRAM for the games that card could run and people didn't notice the problem until they started looking for artificial scenarios where it used more.
The problem was that Nvidia lied about it.

I've gamed on PC my whole life, still clinging to my 1070ti but I think I just have to accept gaming on PC is over for me and I need to make the jump to console. Just not looking forward to playing on a device I have no library at all on, but this just isn't affordable to me.

console performance still sucks balls. a 4070 will outperform any console by wide margin.

a 4070 is significantly more expensive than a console, it better run fricking circles around any console and not have any problems.

I know, but the gap feels a lot smaller while the difference in price has gone up. When I got my 1070ti it destroyed the PS4 and the whole build was pretty affordable. If I want to get the most out of a GPU that beats the PS5 I would also need to shell out a lot just to have the display devices to benefit, a cheaper alternative that's just "roughly the PS5, but it's a GPU" doesn't exist anymore.

On top of that PC games are launching unoptimized as frick pretty consistently, which is kind of depressing too. The PS5 being (relatively) powerful has made devs not give a frick about optimizing anymore.
