Octopath 2 is such a well designed game, they really fixed pretty much every issue I had in the first game. The cast is great and I love the battle system and how much it lets you frick with the systems and break the game.
Do you think Octopath has long running franchise potential?
>2.5 "HD" slop with mediocre story and characters
it's slop
Is it like live a live?
Is it worth 30 if you have nothing to play at all?
The graphical style is similar to the Livealive remake style.
The vignette structure is somewhat similar. You might like it I suppose, but I think they were all pretty poor in Octopath 2. I'd say risk the 30 dollars and see for yourself.
I only played the stone age part on the snes and I did like it. I'd pay less, but it's never under 30 from what I know.
I'm really desperate for games, Corpo cucks ruined gaming. Glad katharsis will frick them over real good.
its like live a live but on a big open world map with a lot of exploration
>unfortunately
Exploration is almost always complete waste of time.
Satisfying ending?
Is a game that tries to ape old jRPGs but fails at every aspect of being one and comes off as soulless. It feels like it was made with a checkbox in mind and nothing else. For the same money you can get 2 indie games at least.
Ewww, that bad?
I reckon you are right. I might play romancing saga 2 and 3 then.
It's nowhere near that bad and the claim that it's soulless is just the biggest pile of horseshit.
Play both OT and RS, they're both very good, just in different ways.
Are the 8 stories connected? The battle system any good?
It is true that pretty much everything nowadays is a soulless cookie cutter clone.
I do understand that people despise the word soulless and call the term meaningless.
>The battle system any good?
its my favourite system in any jrpg, personally
Curious.
Got any recommendations?
>Are the 8 stories connected?
Yes, sort of.
>The battle system any good?
It's nothing super amazing but it's satisfying.
Good enough then.
Is there any jrpg with a brilliant battle system?
SaGa Scarlet Grace
Despise the art style. Idk what they were thinking.
Maybe it's ne, but I still consider 16 bit to be among the best styles for rpgs.
Art direction is the worst I've ever seen in Scarlet Grace yes.
>vignette structure
>all the vignettes are deathly boring
I don't know how a writer can fail so badly at short stories. It's the first thing you do.
Making short stories is an art in itself. Some of the best writers did mostly short stories only.
Yes but I am not comparing RPG writers to Borges.
Does the party share xp? It's my biggest gripe with 1 right now
do you still have to level up all 8 characters? that was a pain in the ass in the first one
Sloptopath Troughler is garbage and has fake JRPG gameplay. The break mechanic isn't good - it's literally the developers telling you "we don't trust you to figure out how to play the game well on your own, so we're going to force you to play it just the one way we want you to."
It makes morons like you FEEL like you're playing the game well and making smart choices, but none of it is real. None of the victories are your own. All of it, dominoes set up by the developers so that you CAN'T fail, but still feel like you fought hard to win. It's the worst kind of bullshit.
I wouldn't go far as to say it's bullshit, but it certainly repetitive and the gimmick gets old far too quickly for my liking. When i'm not getting stressed tf out, it bores me to sleep.
Pls elaborate the can't fail mechanic
I more or less agree about Octopath 2. It was a very good game, which surprised me a lot because I thought the original was pretty mediocre.
On the other hand having gone through with with the Bravely games (original being good, second being great and "Bravely Default 2" being hot shit) I don't hold out hope for Octopath 3 to be good or to even exist.
What's next for their remake team, anyway? Chrono Trigger will probably be done by the DQ3 remake team, so maybe Treasure of the Rudras or Bahamut Lagoon?
Rudras is a great snes rpg, great ost even. I've read fft remaster is next.
I really enjoyed How the game world was structured in pokemon-like routes.
I really like the characters classes and the new one as well, and the combat system is as good as ever.
What I fricking hate is How BAD TERRIBLE the dungeons are. They arent even dungeons really, Just hallways with one or two tiny short branching paths.
They really need to fix that for the next game. And yes, the game has potential
