This is a thread about discussing the Octopath gacha, because it's a fun game. Right now, nothing outside of maybe grinding for really hard monster feats twice as fast (there's a feat for killing 100 weasels when the only one in the game is an elite, for instance)
Later, you'll be able to fight the elites that drop Innocent/Fenrir/Tyrranical upgrade materials there to effectively double how many you get each day.
Also as a heads up, we *should* be getting Bestower of Fame chapter 1 next week, and that comes with a new equipment tier. The weapons when upgraded will boost max SP, and they have a better grade than Tyrranical weapons (the new weapon tier ties BT for weapon grade at III). We also should get the remaining expert hunts and the remaining four BT npcs to beat up, so the current bias towards spear/bow/tome/axe will come to an end finally.
If we get T4 upgrades and the historic fragment exchange shop, do NOT spend them for BT weapons. Turns out there's awakening stones for some 4*s in that shop and you can use those to get those 4* units to A4 for accessories.
I used the legendary ashes from the different floor bosses to max the stamp weapons at Kota's shop for the gear collector feats. Now I don't bother with them anymore. If they added the Flamesgrace and Victor's Hollow elites, I'd get extra gear mats there.
Yup, purely single player. It has better combat/gameplay and story than the first Octopath game, music's the same with a few new tracks and graphics are a slight downgrade. SE sucks at managing their games, but at least one doesn't have time-limited content so you can play it like a normal rpg and though the rolls are stingy, you'll be able to acquire enough to get enough characters to do all the content no problem.
tldr if you are looking for an actual game to play on your phone, pick this up. If you want a waifu png collector gacha game (ain't nothin' wrong with that), there are many better options that won't hurt your wallet nearly as much.

so is this game purely single player? seems like it has a similar feel to the actual octopath game except you having to roll the gacha to recruit more units of course. kinda on the fence about it because i haven't been impressed with any mobages run by square enix that i've played.
It's 100% single player, no PVP garbage.

Present. Collab makes me wanna go play it again, though I'd have to emulate 'cause I don't know where my copy is and all the save data was on my old 3ds anyway. I got the big twist spoiled for me ages ago and it sucked out any desire I had of playing it. Helluva twist though, would've been one of my favourites ever if I could be surprised by it. Makes me think I should finish NieR Automata before the collab comes to Octopath in case they spoil all the twists about that game like they did with the Bravely collab.
Nice octodubs and Agnes isn't out yet, so if you're rerolling for her on Edea's banner you're only gonna get Edea. And yes, rubies are very scarce, this is the stingiest gacha I'm playing by far.

I see. I'm glad that Edea is just one gold Thunderblade Seal away from her true potential, but I'm disappointed that I couldn't see the recruitment quotes for her and the other 6 new travelers I got.

To anyone farming silver shards from hunt rewards: Use Elvis!
Due to Exchange conversion rates, 1 Gold Guidestone is worth as many Silver shards as 1.25 Silver Guidestones (20G shards -> 5S stones = 25S shards) However, in hunt rewards, 5G stones comes out to 31.25S shards while 10S stones comes out to 50S shards. With event promotions, event units give out 10 bonus G stones. That's 62.5S shards, or 93.75S shards total. The event exchange has 2000 Elvis stones anyways so it would be worth it even if Elvis was a good unit. Hell, this is good to get S stones in general.

Tyrannical weapons are better outside of the arena because they have a higher grade bonus which gives you a hidden boost to stats, but Innocent/Fenrir are superior in the arena where grade bonuses are disabled.
This is a long shot, but is anyone here versed in dream analysis? Last night I dreamt that I was back in high school and Tressa was my girlfriend. She was wearing my old school's girls uniform but with her usual hat. We were talking and cuddling behind the science building, then she suddenly had to transfer schools and we'd have to break up because I don't have her at Awakening IV in CotC.
Reminder to start saving up expert hunt permits starting tomorrow as the remaining 4 BT weapons are expected to drop with the new expert hunts on Wednesday and locked behind clearing said hunts (and tier IV weapon upgrades in turn are locked behind the BTs) so if you want to start farming all that asap then you'll need 4 permits by Wednesday.
Shame that would mean giving up gold guidestones on Edea.

If you value the guidestones more then by all means. It's probably slightly better in the long term anyway, though neither decision is really going to make much of a difference there. Personally, I'm looking forward to improving my Glossom clear time so I can start farming him more seriously and maybe giving some of the level 100 NPCs a shot (so far my record is getting the Flamesgrace one down to half health so with some sleep luck and better gear I think I might have a chance there) so my priority is getting my hands on better gear asap.
You can still do Normal and Otherworld Hunts. Alternating 1 normal/1 expert each day brought me to 7/7/7 tickets in the morning without missing a hunt a day. 30 guidestones a day is still pretty good before it tanks to 15 max in a few.
Expert hunts have a higher difficulty than Normal hunts, right? I don't know yet, since I haven't unlocked hunts yet.
Yep, and they give the same rewards with the same odds. There isn't a healing torch near the boss, but there's always a cait on expert hunts so you can go into the cait battle, fully regen your hp/sp and then flee as many times as you want to heal.
how do i get those ??? enemies to appear in collab hunts?
Just do the hunts (manually so no easy hunt) until they show up.
There are three ways of dealing with it really. Either you break him before he gets it off, you sac a tank or slap as many offensive debuffs on him and defensive buffs on your team as you can with the most expendable units out front and hope things go well. With his offenses debuffed, his random attacks aren't that bad when spread across the entire team (though there's always a chance someone gets fricked anyway), but without that there's no way you're not taking casualties.
Frick, I was one hit away from defeating glossom. Everyone's saying he is easier than tikilen but it's the opposite for me because I don't have a single 5 star useful for the fight.
That aside, do anons have any suggestions how to survive the "glossom stands ready" combo, or minimize the casualties from it?

You either can bump them up to 5* through a *very* rare item, or if you pull a dupe at 5* that'll do the job for you as well.

Depends on the unit. Sofia actually is mostly fine at 4.5* since she still gets everything relevant but a ST 3-hit, but the lower level cap and stats definitely hurts.
Bright side is that even at 4.5* Sofia is by far the best ice damage in the game currently.
If she's your party leader and you fail a haggle/request attempt, she sneezes!

I thought the damage output wouldn’t be there due to how tanky he was, and that I would need better weapons to have a serious shot at winning without rolling the dice on sleep cheese strats.

What even is that, the BT axe fight?
Dammit, the Tower of Remembrance has 23/24 chests for me. That implies I'm missing a chest in the Bravely collab areas. Where's that special NPC fight anyway? I went through the whole collab and didn't find it, so maybe that's where the last chest is.
The optional superboss is located at the very end of floor 3. Go to the last chest before the end, and then go up and right. You'll go down an invisible path straight into the void where the superboss hangs out. If you beat the arena bosses you shouldn't have much trouble with the first fight. Once you win you can inquire her to fight a level 100 version that's basically just for bragging rights although still a bit easier than the other L100 NPCs
That's one of the L100 NPCs, which are best described as "you are not beating this for the next six months minimum" territory of difficulty just because they're so tanky that you'll ram into the 15 turn limit long before killing them unless you have absolutely absurd amounts of damage output.
Even with everything I have I still only by the slimmest of margins pulled off a win; I would not even consider trying until we get IV weapons and only if you have a ridiculously loaded team for the fight.

It's not just for bragging rights, you can farm her daily for 30 heroite which significantly speeds up the grind for Elvis materials. Even if you're never actually going to use him, his A4 accessory at the very least is always worth grabbing and is going to take a long time to get without farming the Bravely boss.
Nevermind, found the chest. Still don't know where to fight the super collab NPC though, not that I could hope to beat them.

Unit-wise, it should be fine until you start to reach level 45 areas, this is because 3.5* units are capped at level 40. Also, Tahir is kinda dogshit.

6000 usually. For the Edea/Agnes, it's only 2400 due to the step ups and it having a free pull on the first pull

Just follow the side quests, it leads you to those new people. If it doesn't, then that simply means there aren't any for to meet.

Bigger level = usually better. This holds true until endgame, but don't think about it right now. But as a sneak peak, Innocent series is for magic units, Fenrir series is for physical units. Tyrannical are for both, as long as you're outside the arena because grade bonuses are disabled there. Inside, Fenrir/Innocent are better.

Goddammit, not another 4.5*. I know his 230 regen and 2-hit Axe AOE are 5* only. Is he still the Tikilen-killer or am I still hopeless?
You’re fine, his main draws are all before 5*. The 5* skills are just 2-hit AOE axe and a single target heal + regen which are both not super relevant for the fight. You still get his best in the game AOE regen and the 3-hit RT axe skill at 4*

Theo is an absolute gigachad even without his 5*. His axe aoe is nice for Glossom (though he's still ridiculously useful in that fight too even with it) and literally the only skill he needs for Tikilen is his aoe regen +wind res up. Just slap some HP accessories on him so he can take a few hits and you're golden.
So is tatroka or tatrock? Yeah I can read but the VA pronounces it as tatroku

Is the bravely default Collab a one time thing or they'll be a rerun in the future?
They apprently did rerun the banners once in JP. Notably though, when JP first got the collab there was no awakening so that may have been the reason behind the rerun to give people the chance to awaken them. Regardless, it'll definitely be a while before we get another BD banner.
Everything except the banners for Adelle, Edea and Agnes is permanent. So Elvis, all the collab content, the otherworld hunts, etc will all be available to anyone who plays this game from now on.

People usually limit break to 65 -> awakening 3 -> level 74. The influence boost on level 65 is such a low hanging fruit, and the HP boost from awakening 3 is important for the endgame fights.

It depends, but I did this for most of the characters: Awakening 1 (it's very strong because of the added speed) -> 65 lvl -> Awakening 3 (only for those who need it) -> 70 lvl for extra BP -> 74 lvl. However, some do not even need Awakening 1, just levels.

Noelle is actually a 5* undercover. She just pretends she isn't.
Laura has a great passive ability that makes her useful even when she is not suitable for a particular battle at all, as well as superior tome attacks, which is a rather rare thing.
They're both good in their own way.

I'm starting to think BT weapons don't drop or I'm doing something wrong. I fight the tome guy every day recently for historic material, but he has never dropped a tome other than the guaranteed one I got the first time I beat him.
Shame it's totally useless for me because the game saw fit to bless me with a grand total of 9 BT tomes before I stopped farming the NPCs daily, but with the new equipment and taking the plunge to break down some excess guidestones to class up Odette, I've perfected the 2-turn kill.
They datamined next week’s unit and it’s actually *not* anyone people expected, because the banner order is a hopeless cause and trying to make sense of it will drive lesser men insane
It adds Cardona, who’s an alright merchant with a 4x random target ice move, a 3x AOE spear move, and a 230 potency ST heal that also is a taunt for the recipient
She’s not Tressa so she’s an easy skip
These new novice missions are incredible for new players. All I got were 4 stars, but I would've loved having these extra 14 four stars when I started.
Free pull of Agnes' step up didn't even have a 4 star in it. Nowhere to go but up from here, I'm goin' for her! I really want a proper regen caster.

I've never gotten three in one pull, this was step 2! And I was the guy who was really debating on pulling for H'aanit, my fave OG female Octopath traveler and decided against it! Man, I still don't have any gold seals but I'm just so happy to have her and Therese too. And Hasumi's actually 5 star! My options for Tikilen just exploded.

I paid for my good luck by failing the coin flip at the end of the step up. Got another 4.5* Therese (seriously, getting her full 5* version is TWICE as likely! We're both getting screwed) and my guaranteed 5* was Scarecrow, who I've already gotten twice in the past.
I went back in for round 2, got nothing on the first two steps, but then this on my third step of round 2: 5* Agnes and the only non-5* I was somehow still missing.
I'm down to 1000 rubies but I think I will go the last two steps because a guaranteed 5* for 600 rubies is a good deal imo. Then I'll be broke.

I have an important question for you bros. I did the step up twice and got two Agnes. That means I can pity her for a third copy. Should I use that second awakening stone for A2 or save it for her special to get added to the game? On the one hand, her kit is very wide so she seems like someone who could actually make good use of the 4th skill slot. On the other hand, her special is a full front row regen and speed buff, and aoe regen healing is pretty damn good in this game.
Now that I've beat the Final Chapter, how should I start getting the best equipment for my band and prepare to take on the Master of All questline?
You don't really have to worry about grinding gear until you're ready to face the final boss of Master of All Chapter 8, where you'll want to grind for level 60 meteorite gear in the castle. You'll find plenty of good enough gear along the way in chests but if you hit a wall, feel free to grind around the latest town a little bit for some of the latest weapons like in a normal rpg.
I guess I'll take my time clearing the traveler stories, upgrading the Nameless Town, and revising my main story team to cover my lack of Fire and Ice damage. Pretty sure my 4.5 Edea can cover the former, on that end.

Starting to get a bit stonewalled by the main story now (feels like I barely won the 2 boss fights in the latest chapter). Is there any adjustments I could make for the team or is it a matter of levels or gear? I just unlocked new ~51 gear I can buy but I don't have the materials yet, and my levels are anywhere from 50-60 (story "recommends 50")
The only other 5* I got are heathcote and scarecrow (very low lv, I only just got them pulling for agnes). And other than that I have probably most of the lower rarity units if I had to guess.

IMPORTANT PSA:
You can upgrade Sacred weapons to IV, even though that didn't arrive until several months later in Japan.
Sacred IV has a better grade than Tyrannical IV, and also has a far more useful +30 to max SP instead of +30 to crit, so it's definitely an upgrade.
I thought Tyrannical weapons would last much longer, can't believe they're already obsolete. Does that mean future weapon series will immediately come with IVs too? So we gotta refarm everytime there's a new town? Shit, that's a lot of BTs
Thanks for this! I just watched the new shizukatz vid going over the nitty gritty and stat comparisons and wow, it really is sacred all the way. I thought maybe Innocent might still be worth for magic but nope! I'm way behind, still grinding innocent and fenrir and have only beaten two BT NPCs (neither of which seem to drop anything) and my armor is a mix of innocent and fenir. Time to blitz to the end of the story today!
My understanding from that vid is that there's just three elite enemies to farm for the Sacred mats and they're all in the latest dungeon, right?

how do you stop caits from feeling?
I assume you're supposed to break them asap but they have over 10 shields and I've seen them fleeing on their 2nd turn
You need a character with a Priority skill ("act faster during turn") to break them at the start of turn 2 and kill it during turn 3. Caits never flee turn 1 so this will be consistent. Heathcote does this job for the highest level Cait we have right now, if you don't have him then yeah it feels bad but you just have to focus a Cait down and pray it doesn't flee

I beat all the bonfires but I can't quite beat the dragon. I have all the best units for the fight, but I'm underleveled and undergeared. I think I heard he drops an accessory when you first beat him, but is there any reason to daily grind the fight? I'd like to know what I'm missing out on. And since nobody answered my question about Agnes yesterday, I think I'm gonna spend the second awakening stone on her today. She really wants more skills at her fingertips.
The first time clear reward for the dragon is an accessory that gives +40 SP and +6 SP regen. Aside from that, it has a chance to drop an accessory which if I remember right gives a pretty nice boost to def, e.def and speed, which is the only benefit for farming it daily aside from it also giving a decent chunk of exp.
Ugh, now I have 4.5* Millard and 4.5* Tressa. Who do I prioritize in getting to 5*? I already have Theo, and please try to imagine a world where you don't have a massive Tressa boner
If you don't have Gilderoy at 5* already, I would say Tressa as a tank can be quite useful and you want them to be as tanky as possible, which means getting their level as high as you can. Having Theo makes Millard less of a priority.

5* Tressa gets a 2-hit Wind AOE and priority 3-hit Spear
5* Millard gets front row 205 heal (more than 2,000 unboosted, essentially a full heal when Millard acts) and 1-hit Light AOE.
In terms of future content, every Cleric brings something that makes "Big Heals" Millard less attractive. Stead is a decent Dark attacker with full row heal+regen. Agnes does Regen, Heals and Revives. Ophelia will do everything Agnes does better. For now, Millard's on-demand heals are still very much relevant. The only real advantage 5* brings is no longer needing to boost to heal.
Tressa will always have Sidestep + AOE taunt with that 1HP Guts passive. She isn't a buffer but the 15% Atk attached to her taunt helps with reaching cap. Future merchants have much better offense/breaking and Gilderoy is already a bulkier merchant by stats and skills. 5* is the only way Tressa will actually break an enemy at the start of the turn, but she has other priorities.
I've got 5* Millard and 4.5* Tressa. 5* Tressa would be a better investment for extra HP and defensive stats. I honestly forget to use Boost on Millard, so the upgrade isn't necessary. Just stick HP boost accessories on him and he'll do his job. Same for Tressa.

If you have Millard and any regen healer I wouldn't pull. Agnes needs to use 3BP for any of her heals to multi-cast. Millard simply heals the party and doesn't even need boost at 5*. Agnes has a great kit but she isn't perfect. She needs those 5* BP nodes to start the battle strong. 'Course, I just got my first 4.5* Theo on the free pull in addition to my 5* Millard so I may be biased.
Tressa since you already have Theo for healing.
Millard will fall off in usefulness much faster either way, whereas Tressa really wants the extra stats from 5* to tank
if you didn’t have Theo I would have actually recommended Millard over Tressa though; his heal at 5* is completely absurd and would let you do hard fights much more easily because it’s basically a “entire front row to full HP” button

For general gameplay it doesn't really matter, just slap on the highest level armor you can afford. Personally when I don't know what I'm going to be fighting, I like to try to keep each character's defenses balanced (so favoring physical gear for magically defensive units and vice versa). For endgame content, it's going to depend on the fight.

Yes! I'm the slowest slowpoke ever but finally, for the first time since launch day, I'm caught up in the story! And I totally called the mastermind in BoF, I even went back to the /vmg/ archives to make sure I did indeed name Father Monadis or however you spell it, but the game might've messed up because even though I chose that person in the prologue, chapter 1 opened with me saying it was Bishop What's His Name, starts with "T".
Not sure what happened there, and I wish there was a compilation online of what all the different dialogue is depending on who you choose.
Anyway, I'm finally prepping for the endgame content, the hardest fights. I still need to do all the arena fights, almost all of the BT NPCs, the dragon and the Bravely NPC. For those of you caught up on everything, can you tell me what my daily checklist should look like? So far I've figured I should be doing the Nameless Town stuff and killing the four elites under the cathedral for Sacred gear mats.

Those are the main things you should be doing, the rest is just gravy. The BT NPCs have daily drops for a material you'll be able to exchange for BTs later (and supposedly may be required for 4* units' A4 accessories down the line), but it's not really a high priority as you can farm the NPCs repeatedly for BT drops anyway and the timer for historic material will be reduced significantly in the future. Apart from that, you can kill the special elites in the Tower of Remembrance for unique materials every day, but said materials aren't really used for anything too relevant. Once you're strong enough, you can also kill the dragon that shows up in the Tower of Remembrance daily for a chance of a decent accessory drop.
There really is very little you absolutely should do daily so don't burn yourself out thinking you have to do everything.
Thanks bro, so it's looking like just Nameless Town, the four sacred elites and the two bonfire special elites for sunlands and highlands 'cause my stamp weapons are already maxed with the other ashes. Just gonna pick away at sacred gear and BTs a little bit each day and do some traveler's stories when I have extra time. Comfy game, comfy life.

How do I stop getting bodied by the enemies? My team is almost entirely 5* awakening 1 for the extra stats. I'm wearing the best possible gear I've been able to find to this point. And my level is right at recommended.
I always buff first turn with an 15% phys/ele def party buff and every turn the enemies take is still so threatening. Edea (with my best armor) can provoke but she just dies or has to swap out the very next turn if she lives with a sliver. Agnes has the regen which is nice but I'm usually already trying to stop the bleeding by the time she has 3 BP to make it AOE.
This shit's just getting out of hand I'm at a loss. My damage is fine once I finally break the enemy I usually just instagib it, but I got no idea what I'm supposed to be doing defensively to stop dying so quickly.
What are you fighting?
Try throwing around ATK/EATK debuffs if possible, those tend to help

You have Viola, the queen of debuffs. Use her Anti-Attack II. If you have Kurtz (a 4* thief), he has Anti-Attack which will stack with Viola's Anti-Attack II to hit the atk/eatk debuff cap of -30% if you need even more debuffs. Tressa should be your main tank, not Edea, and put Agnes in the front row so she can set regen and keep healing your squad, with Hasumi swapping in occasionally supplementing heals as needed and buffing defenses. If you still can't progress, grinding gear and hopefully leveling off caits while you do so is your last resort.
Where are all the level 100 fights? I know about the old man in Flamesgrace and the collab NPC, not sure if there's others or if any were added this patch.

The main reasons I was using Edea as my tank is her defense was about 50 pts higher and she gets BP when attacked. And tressa gets her SP cost halfed if she's at full HP. But if Tressa works better I can make that change (the atk buff to front on her taunt is nice too).
And I must be an idiot to not realize Viola had that debuff. I must have unequipped it early when it wasn't an issue and forgot about it. I could really use a couple awakening stones for her though, the skill bloat is real.

Only took hours of optimizing my turn order and figuring out which allies to use and when, but I finally managed to take down this old fart.
And now I feel like an absolute fricking dingus because this whole time I was running Innocent Tome IV on Odette instead of Sacred because I'd equipped it to another scholar for another fight I did so I very likely would have beaten him earlier during my many attempts where he killed me with only a sliver of health left.

The best course of action is to get 5 4* characters to level 65 for each influence. Maximum influence needed is 600 on Expert Hunts, so that means you get 3 flex-slots for whoever you want in addition to full hunt rewards. When your 5* units hit 84 or so, they'll have 140 influence and leave you less reliant on 4*s for rewards.
This does unfortunately suck when bringing promotion units or 3.5/4.5* units because they replace your flex slots, which you actually need in Expert Hunts to not die. Frick you Elvis Frick you Tressa Frick you Theo why do your influence nodes need to be locked behind level 84? [/spoiler)

Good luck bro. Try using the taunt+sidestep combo on Tressa, it's busted vs physical attacks. Plus she has that handy guts passive where once per fight, when she would die, she doesn't.
And don't worry about wanting an extra slot on Viola. All she really needs is her atk debuff, her def debuff and double wide burst. If you're fighting one boss weak to daggers, you can swap out double wide burst for triple edge.
Thanks I'll play around with some of this stuff. The guts passive on Tressa has come in clutch a few times and secured me some close victories.
I haven't really played around with the sidestep or her heal/bp restores stuff, I feel like she's already got some similar issues with skill bloat. But maybe I just value the wrong skills when I'm setting up my skills (I tend to favor attack type coverage pretty highly). Part of it is going into fights blindly, if I knew in advance what I'd be fighting and their weaknesses and attack types and stuff I'd have more of an idea what to bring.
For whatever reason the most recent chapter I did was somehow easier than both of the last two and felt pretty reasonable (which were brutal). I could probably do with some equipment farming too now that I'm at an area that seems to enable that.
I need sacred weapon materials but I do not feel like fighting that stupid bear under the cathedral. his weaknesses are basically all the stuff I'm missing

The ad ones are technically elite fights, elites cannot run away. Normal encounters will always get one chance to run away unless you have a priority skill to break with on turn 2, but right now that's only heathcote since tressa's is spear and the big exp ones aren't weak to spear. It's just rng like in the normal games, or any game with metal slime-mechanics.

Crit weakness would be busted thanks to Ashlan and H'aanit but man, I wish there was an easier way to kill these fat fricks.
At least the newer caits in JP have far less health and shields. You can 2 turn them every time. For now what exists is a 3 turn kill that either relies on flee rng or having heathcote.
That new dragon gives 250k exp though so while you'll need to go rest up after each fight it's probably faster to kill it repeatedly than trying to encounter wild caits.
You can't farm the dragon repeatedly, it's on a timer like any other elite.

My first few attempts at the level 100 version of this fricker were very discouraging, but turns out it might very much be doable for me now. I got screwed over by an untimely Dispel but with some additional optimizations I think I've got this.
Stacking speed accessories on Millard and bringing an ally to hit debuff cap on both her offenses did the trick.

Just took down the BD hyperboss myself, wasn’t super rough in between having insane amounts of light/sword/dagger damage and Tressa being able to tank Meteor with ease while also impaling the fox repeatedly

Get that meteorite gear for your squad and you should be fine. Make sure you got the feat for killing 100 Edoras soldiers. Bring a variety of elements and weapon types, there's gonna be a lot of weaknesses to hit.

There is a clear divide for traveler stories. 3* is either Mexican manhood journey, apprenticeship, or a love misadventure. 4* and up are actual stories. Stories like Peredir and Noelle are actually kind of fun and then you have Cless. Cless definitely has it worst but Cedric and Aslyte are pretty painful. I'd say Viola and Fiore are among the few that feel like full stories. Meena gets an honorable mention for the heavy implications of what would happen if your party wasn't around to give her self-confidence.
Haven't done Aslyte yet. I actually use her quite a lot so I hope its not too painful

Cardona banner's first step costs 200 instead of 150. I'm not pulling, but it's exhausting to have something controversial happen every week.
Also, hunts are getting a guidestone bonus drops for all characters. If you've been stockpiling tickets, now's the time to splurge.
I dropped all of my tickets during Elvis rate up so I could get massive amounts of guidestone shards, thinking it was safe to restock tickets for the week after because Cordona was confirmed so she would be the only bonus for that time.
Then we get universal guidestone bonuses for JP 2nd anni. the day after.
That 200 Ruby step 1 sucks I guess but it's 50 extra rubies on a unit nobody would care too much about. 30 apologems for ad fix brings that down to 20 extra rubies so it's not going to cause a huge stink. I just wonder if anyone is going to demand a free Octopath character like JP when we only have half of them and the game was been out in GL for a quarter of a year.

I'd take a look at your 4* roster to see if you have any good ones that you're missing.
I only pulled the first step of step ups because I was missing Menno, Noelle, Barrad and Bertrand. In the end, I only pulled once in the Stead/Lumis step up, got Noelle, and got the rest from the free pulls.
I haven't pulled since then, and I'm sitting on 9.3k right now...I wonder if I can reach 5 digits before Cyrus comes out.
I have every 4* at full four stars and every 3* as well. Guess I'll pass on this step up entirely.

Her best skills are locked behind her 5* and she greatly appreciates the extra SP because of her high SP costs and how her SP regen scales off max SP, but she's still good at breaking against fan and dark weak single enemies and can still buff attack and defense for the entire party which is always nice to have. She's fantastic at 5* and generally better than any other 4* dancer at 4.5*, but the 5* boost is absolutely a huge improvement. Definitely a top tier candidate for devoting your hunts to.

Well, tickets here could mean 2 things.
Hunt Permits, which are tickets you use to enter a hunt.
Or Traveler's Seals, which work like a single pull ticket. They don't count towards a spark, so just use them when you get them unless you're waiting for the permanent pool to update.
This game would really benefit from a single free traveler's seal every day
Way too many characters, especially 5*, it'd be nice to be able to collect many of them over time even if its a rare occurrence
So why exactly did miza kill monaris?
It's heavily implied, especially by the memoir that unlocks after you finish Bestower of Fame Chapter 1 where some characters are discussing that Monaris was abusing her, likely in a sexual way. I got vibes like that from the dinner table scene, the way she acts around him subtly shows she's afraid of him (notice she sits as far away as she can and how she speaks). For some lines in the game that more directly hint at it, the aforementioned memoir has Father Taigan mention that he doted on her but "Even so, he succumbed to his desires. And Miza, his very own daughter...became his prey. Eliza nods solemnly and replies "I know what happened. Is she not the victim in that story? After all that she has paid the price for her sins, she deserves salvation as much as anyone."
Of course, this is just the reason evil was able to take hold of her in the first place. Why she actually killed him was a mixture of both this and the fact that's being led down the path to full blown evil by the true mastermind.
They can't actually show that sort of thing taking place on screen, so they skirt around it by discussing it second hand after the fact and not explicitly naming it.

Speaking of Tikilen, I've yet to try her fight but I'd like some help on my team, specifically its composition and formation. It's faster to list who I don't have. I don't have Adelle, Millard, Theo, Gilderoy, Heathcote, Primrose, Eliza, Stead or the new merchant that just got added. Other than that I have everyone (Sophia, Lumis and Therese are 4.5*).
I'm thinking my best team would be Agnes, H'aanit, Scarecrow, Ashlan, Viola, Hasumi, Odette and Tressa but I'm not 100% if that's the best. And if it is the best, what should their row position/formation look like?
You've got Agnes, H'aanit and Scarecrow so you should be fine.
Agnes needs 3 BP to do AOE regen, so she won't be seeing much action. Put her behind one of your breakers. Viola won't contribute much besides debuffs and Ashlan's main purpose is crit-rate up and guaranteed crits during the crit phase. He's not especially sturdy so he can't stay out front too long. You can let these guys hang out behind the guns for most of the fight. Only other advice I have is to make sure Tressa is in a separate row from Hasumi and Agnes so she can tank as long as you need her to.
Thanks! And as for Agnes' need for 3 BP, I've given her a Ballen Staff so she has a 50% chance to start with 3 BP on turn one, and since I just want to clear the fight instead of grind it, I was just gonna reset til I got that 50%.

Swap Tressa for Mabel. You won't need a tank, especially if it's not Gilderoy. Tressa without A3 is unlikely to survive Slicing Winds and she also can't cheese Tikilen like Glossom. Whereas every single one of Mabel's skills will be useful. WindMdef buffs will allow you to tank Slicing Wind unless there is someone lucky enough to catch all four hits. Hasumi now can focus on being DPS. Mass Mdef debuff. Decent Lightning damage. Can break Tikilen's shields. She is one of the few 4* who really benefits from being A2. Slap Mabel along with your buffer (she got really nice passive) and you're golden.
Altough it may be overkill, you have all the characters you need. Except Theo, but Agnes gets the job done.
Items are just tied to certain monsters. Find to which one and flee from every battle where he does not appear. Sunstones drop in both places so just pick a location where you will hit their weaknesses to end the fight in 1-2 AoE. Farming resources in this game is an ungrateful task, experience is easier to get by beating Caits, leafs are useless, equipment will become obsolete the next second when a new set appears.

I've been using Bluestacks with Hyper-V enabled ever since the update that killed the disconnect trick. Supposedly a Bluestacks running Pie-64 also works now, but Nougat instances won't without Hyper-V.
You just have to do the prologue of his traveler story. If it hasn't shown up yet, presumably you just need to keep doing the main story quests until it does.
Nice this works with the latest version of Bluestacks 5, gonna start rerolling for Agnes and Edea.

Sounds like they're going the route of RSRS global where they'll be buffing underwhelming travelers (RIP other mediocre 5 stars we've already gotten). Though this will make a lot of characters more appealing and useful, I'm concerned that this isn't like RSRS where we get a pity's worth of gems every month.

Every elite post-MoA drops upgrade materials for their respective region's weapon set. In practice though you only need to care about the ones in the cathedral of tytos (unlocked by doing Bestower of Fame chapter 1) as sacred weapons outclass everything else out at the moment.

You really just need a reasonably leveled and geared team that exploits her weaknesses and preferably some buffs and debuffs unless you want the fight to drag on forever. If you're just done with MoA and have been rolling with a generic blob of your on paper strongest characters, now is the time to start leveling characters out outside of your initial team of 8 because all endgame content expects you to build a specialized team.

Still seems kind of underwhelming although I don't know how to interpret his power levels; sword and ice are already pretty well covered in EN, his buffs are pretty selfish (only self buffs) and debuffs are pretty narrow (only on single-target attacks). If he hits especially hard then maybe it would change things but I doubt it
On one hand, buffing bad units is always a good thing
On the other hand, it means the crystal ball is 100% worthless and nothing matters except giving them even more money
What really matters is not hoarding forever because there's always going to be better things coming in the future and instead pulling for units you personally like or fill holes in your roster.
Pretty good, these are the first changes that affect the gameplay, and not just some schemes with random and rubies. It's hard to say if they'll do anything with already released characters. Fixed Scarecrow's passives and multi-hit for Millard would be nice. Though they'll probably go after the characters that JP shat on like Harley and Prome.
Its nice to see they're doing something for these characters on global.
I think this should start from the gacha or the purchase options more than random gameplay buffs than gameplay buffs.
The gacha rates and pity cost are just so high, and the rubies we get are so low. Even if these characters are buffed significantly I'm not going to pull on them and cost myself the one favorite I can afford to pity after saving for 3+ months of play just because they got some minor buffs.
And the paid options are the worst I've seen in a gacha. There are no bundles or packs or value to speak of. Just gems that are bought at a flat rate of around $30 per 10-pull worth of rubies. You either whale or you go f2p, there is no dolphining in this game.

Clearing the main story. The latest chapter is Bestower of Fame Chapter 1 and it unlocks the latest tier of gear (Sacred) which is far and away the best gear in the game if you can get it up to stage IV (which requires a stage III weapon fused with a BT weapon of the same type).

Yeah, but don't worry about it. We're still probably months away from specials unlocking, plenty of time for you to get another Lynette and if you don't have that spare awakening stone by then, it's not the end of the world.

A very messy clear, but got him on my second try.
Lionel didn’t actually get buffed much, he basically just got SP cost reductions on his biggest moves and two of his worst moves are now 3-hit ST
He’s still the worst 5* warrior, it’s just now he can actually function for breaking sword and ice weakness and if you have no 5* warriors (not counting Tikilen) it might actually be worth pulling for him.
As a side note he still can’t provoke enemies so he’s not very useful for tanking unless you have Cardona or Edea’s A4 accessory.
Anyways Varkyn got stabbed by Fiore and Edea, frozen by Sofia, and whacked on the head by Agnes and Millard once I realized he has a staff weakness

Dumb question, but will we need meta units/equipment or lots of rubies for battle revives to clear the future story chapters? I saw the fight for the latest JP chapter, and I freaked out at the damage numbers, the boss's level and tactics, and the rare characters used in the video's team.
You'll definitely need to grind for gear, and you characters will need to be tailored to the specific enemies you're fighting as you progress later in the game. Never, ever, ever spend rubies on battle revives.

Next week we’re getting Z’annta. He’s a hunter with absolutely no multihit AOE (or bow AOE for that matter), but he does have an innate 30% bow damage boost so he’s better in that regard than Scarecrow or H’annit, and he has a *five* hit random target bow skill at 5* that will shred through a bow weakness very quickly
Apparently he’s one of the top hunters even in JP just because his 5-hit is so strong, so he might be worth going after even if you have Scarecrow/H’annit already

Doesn't scarecrow's 30% break bonus damage already count for that same damage type?
Scarecrow only gets 20% break damage so he either needs a crit to proc his other passive or an accessory to cap out his damage bonus. The main issue with Scarecrow is his low potencies though. His highest potency skill is his default 2x single target bow attack at only 180 total potency whereas Z'aanta's 5x random target has a whooping 275 total potency so it's safe to say he's going to absolutely shit on Scarecrow's damage output.
Is Zanta Claus a sign that Cyrus is finally coming out or another false flag? I've heard so many rumors and theories about when Cyrus releases I'm starting to think Cyrus is just a myth.
If not for the cutscenes, the rematch against Tytos (or any other Master) would have taken less than a minute. But in any case, it's a stable 250k experience gained without having to run to the tavern to replenish SP, re-hire allies and generally rely on luck while fishing for Caits. The best way to level up characters so far.

As for the next Octopath character, I would bet on Alfyn. He'll be pulled by those who want to defeat Varkyn and/or Glossom, those who don't have Theo or Agnes to cast regen, those who want to make a nice long-term investment (his "Grant front row 1-4 BP" skill will flourish when specials come out). So it kinda makes sense to release him soon.

Same, even at 5400 it feels too steep. Rather than using 200 on first step that I'm more than likely to get frick all, I'd rather save for a unit I want and then go all in.

Honestly doesn't feel like those re-fights are really worth it. 2 minutes for 250k exp to one person, while any random battle is 3-5k to eight people and is over in one action. With cait interruptions for bigger amounts to 8 people

I have Scarecrow and H'aanit and they are my favourite guy and girl travelers in the game so far, I think I've become a huntergay. I only have a bit under 1500 rubies though, so I think I'm probably gonna have to skip, sadly.

Yeah, I upgraded her to 5* right away, because I had enough 4* silver stones left from collab rolls. Also, speaking of collab, I rolled Edea, Viola, Heathcote and awake stone for Prim all from completing just one step-up. Now I seriously consider skipping Cyrus on his banner and just waiting until he is added to the general pool.
Any tips to survive varkyn's light attacks? I have no 5 star tanks or elem debuffers. His light attacks are strong enough that even if I debuff him the other enemies' attacks would finish off the remaining health
You want to keep him debuffed at all times, bring Kurtz or whatever else 4* gets the job done (though you probably want to awaken them to A3) if you have no 5* options. Defensive buffs also help a lot for the first half of the fight as you won't be getting dispelled until after Varkyn gets below 50% or both adds are dead.
So how does Varkyn compare to the "other" light scholar, Odette? Upgrade/downgrade/something different?
Slightly worse. They have the same 3x hit light res debuff spell, he has a 1x hit aoe nuke vs her 2 hit aoe moderate damage, and he has a 3x hit single target damage focused light move vs Odette's 1x hit nuke. He does however make for a good support for her and other light teams with his AoE light debuff.
In terms of damage potential, Odette is definitely better by virtue of having a much higher potency on her on her single target nuke than anything Varkyn can offer and she's better at breaking in aoe fights as Varkyn lacks an aoe multihit attack, but Varkyn is no slouch. If you can trigger his mag up passive he can narrow the gap pretty well (though if you can give Odette outside sources of passive mag up like parking Eliza behind her ass, she pulls ahead again) and his e.def + e.atk debuff is always valuable for helping you hit debuff caps. If you need/want to ramp up his damage quicker, you can also slap Kota's Right Glove on him purely for the SP drain effect.
Overall he's a downgrade, but not by a huge margin and he's fantastic alongside Odette for melting anything weak to light.

and the two newest tower elites are kinda hard to kill on auto so i skip them daily
what is path to "catching up"? it feels like my units are ready
Get your gear up to snuff. Kill the two elites in the Tytos Cathedral Basement and the two elites in the Emberglow Labs Inner Chambers every day (they're the same area, one leads into the other, unlock by clearing BoF Ch1). Sacred armor/vests/robes for your squad and Sacred III weapons, then go kill the BT NPCs and fuse those BTs with Sacred III weapons to make Sacred IV and you should be able to handle everything in the game considering people could already beat it without "IV" weapons.

Haven't got jackshit until 5th step and then I got Scarecrow. I had no 5* hunters and the only hunter I used was a lvl72 awakening 3 Camilla, so it wasn't a total waste, but it still sucks.

I'm really on the fence, I only have 1700 rubies and I might end up needing 6000 for 2B and A2. Plus I want Cyrus, Ophelia and Oberon but those are permanent so idk if I should wait for them to spook me like H'aanit. Z'aanta's so cool though, and I really like Hunters in this game which is weird because I usually don't like bows in RPGs.

It's 5 rubies for each of the four stages of each story, plus for every five stories you finish you get 30 rubies.

Yeah, dead rolls hurt more in this game than any other one that I play because the rest are all much more generous with pull currency. Getting nothing stings when you have to earn those 300 rubies back 5 and 10 at a time.
In a better world, we'd get a bit over 3000 rubies each month so we could do a pity every other month. That's still not as much as some other SE gacha, but it'd be something I could settle for.
Honestly with the "compensation" they gave us on the BD step ups for agnes/edea, those banners actually felt incredibly fair relative to other gachas I play and how much resources we get. A 2.4k pity with a free repeatable first step, I effectively had to pity both of them but I wasn't even mad because pitying both still ended up being less rubies than I'd normally have to pity on one character.
The normal price of 6k for a pity is absolutely fricking stupid for how stingy the game is and for how its a single player game. Even if step ups kept the free step but moved it to step 3 or 5 or something it'd be a welcome change.
As a casual/f2p I basically can't pull for anything because I have to save for my favorite collab characters. I'm going to have to skip my favorite OG octopath character and I've already had to skip several others.

Edea’s been a total sis for my party. Having done her banner twice early on (and getting all four Awakening Stones) she’s carried me through many a battle, hitting hard and tanking hits.
Plus she gets to use Fire and Light attacks!

My fave is Ophilia. She’s the one I picked for the original game, but Tressa’s the one on my team right now. Great with spears and wind and one hell of an evasion tank, using Sidestep/Provoke.
Plus I managed a whopping TWO awakening stones with her through luck of the draw so she’s got four skill slots on her.
My favorite is Ophelia. I hear she's really damn good in this too.
But unfortunately as a permanent pool unit pulling for her would kneecap my account from being able to get limited favorite stuff like A2 and 2B.
While RNG might dictate that I never get Ophelia, there's at least a chance I stumble onto her eventually. Whereas those limited units I basically get one shot so I can't screw around when it comes to saving for them even if it'd be for Ophelia.
Ophelia's freaking ridiculous in this game, yeah. Only cleric you need, I'm waiting for her too but more for meta (though she is a sweetie with a lovely theme song).
Even if you miss Ophelia's first banner, there should be a step up for the OG 8 once all 8 have been released. Good luck on getting her one day!
Still waiting for Sophia. She's level 75 now so if I ever get a seal, she'll jump to a whopping 95 because she's been in my hunts every day, which are always axe/tome hunts (still need axe for Lumis and Therese is a second tome seal I need).
Luckily I have Agnes at least. I'm sure she pales in comparison to Ophelia, but I'm really happy to have her in the cleric role until whenever I get Ophelia.
That OG 8 step up sounds pretty nice though, if it comes at an opportune time I might pull there.

I would bet on some Fire character such as Prome or Haze (maybe Therion even). We had very few Clerics and Apothecaries (and Thieves too), so the chances that they will decide to release exactly them are higher. Everyone already has enough Warriors and Scholars, so I doubt it will be Mooloo, because she's op, she's qt, she have no use right noow. Haze is an excellent Axe DPS with very high for Apothecary attack stat and a nice nuke available by default. Prome kind of sucks and yet he will deal more Fire damage than Viola, Peredir, Bravely Fan and Edea combined, and also he probably will get buffed, so there's going to be some use of him, at least for utility. Both can be used against all endgame bosses thanks to the regen. Although Haze would be almost useless against Varkyn if his dispel worked all the time.
By the way, where are other 4*? Where? Where?

I was always curious what happened if you don't kill his three general dudes. What changes in the final battle?
They actually get summoned by Pardis during the first phase of the battle.
On the second phase he absorbs them and gains extra powers from them.
In other words always kill them off unless you’re looking for a serious challenge.

With the addition of Tressa to my roster and classing up Theo, the grind suddenly got a whole lot more tolerable so one more arena champion done. Varkyn can wait until I get Sofia or Cyrus.

Oh no, they're multiplying. Do keep in mind that your starting unit can't be Tressa so you'll have to pull her as an off-banner unit from the gacha if you're rerolling for her.
Yeah, I don't have the patience to reroll, but I did pull Scarecrow then Viola to start out. I'll wait for her to come home whenever she wants to... until then I'll be a casual F2P working my way through quests.

Trying to get rid of Varkyn and I manage to put him in the red before his Living Soulstone fricks me over.
I usually replace Tressa with Fiore(80) for an extra warrior. Still not enough. Any suggestions for ways to improve my chances against Varkyn?
If you've got Lynette or Primrose you might want to consider bringing either of those over Hasumi. The dispel is annoying, but that extra bit of damage during break really helps - especially from a slot that's otherwise essentially dead in terms of damage. The dispel also doesn't affect your back row so you can preserve buffs into the final phase by keeping your heavy hitters in the back until you break and for that reason I'd recommend trying to pair your main damage dealers with characters who can contribute to breaking him. Currently your team has 3 healers which seems absolutely overkill for defense when the difficult part of the fight is a pure damage race.
Ideally you want to time killing the second add with breaking Varkyn as close to 50% health as possible so you get a full break's worth of damage in before the final phase.
For reference, pic related is my Varkyn team. Using the above advice, I can consistently take him down in one break in his second phase.
I do have Lynette and Primrose. And you have a good strategy. Just one question. Given that weaknesses apply when an enemy is broken, wouldn’t the breakers also be your main damage dealers?
I'm not saying to pair your damage dealers with dedicated breakers necessarily, just characters who can break. Ramona for instance isn't good at breaking or dealing damage, but with max boost she can at least take down 5 shields over 2 turns which is enough to let me break in a reasonable amount of time so Fiore can come back in for a big fat nuke.
Aaand done! It was a rough battle, but I was able to get the timing down. Edea, Fiore and Sofia were my superstars in this match!

I did it with the same dps comp. Time your final break right after the turn he gets clearheaded and go ham. He will live and kill your front row but the back row can easily kill him at that health.
Replace hasumi with a awk3 sigrid and viola with magdeleine (or whatever the 3 hit staff girl is called). Buffers/debuffers are near useless if you just want to clear varkyn without caring about time
Kinda uncanny how similar your team is to mine. Only difference is instead of scarecrow and theo, I have Lynette and a 4* (and I even have scarecrow I just haven't leveled him yet)
Funny. I almost used Lynette as my dancer. But before her I had Meena, a dancer with Light Magic and healing. Hasumi was like a Meena+ so I used her instead of Lynette.

They really are. 100 gold guidestones is usually saved as the second to last reward during login campaigns like these. Which means we should be getting nothing but useful shit for the entirety of the duration.

tbf 50k leaves are much more valuable to players still on the Masters chapters than 100 gold guidestones are.
50k leaves will buy 5 lvl 27 weapons. Weapons that players will still need to gather and sell materials in order to make, gaining the leaves to do so in the process. You could buy 2 level 55 helmets, 1 level 60 armor, or fall short of 1 level 55 weapon with 50k leaves.
Or you can get something actually useful in the short and long term like nuts that let new and old players power up their units. 50k leaves is near useless. I could understand 500k being useful for new players, but 50k is just sad.

What's your roster like? Working out how to deal with the arena champions with what you've got is the most fun part of the game so throwing your hands up in the air and giving up because you can't just slap your dick on the screen to clear something while simultaneously complaining about the game being mindless is kind of silly.
Well, I just got tressa and haanit. I have few 4 stars characters and basically a very limited selection of breaks that almost do not work on these cup motherfrickers. Also, kinda lowish levels, so I'm kinda at the weird stage where I need more levels and character upgrades and more diverse breaks. Good enough to clear what I've cleared so far, but not good enough to clear what's left.
You’ll want your main team to be at least at Level 80. Your backup guys can be about level 70.
Second thing is that you want to put in party members with moves that hit weaknesses. Anyone who doesn’t hit the weaknesses of the champions or their adds is useless, no matter how leveled up they are (healers and support being exceptions.
Third is that each one has a gimmick when you knock out their adds and weaken them.
Tikilen - Super strong resolve! Only Critical hits will work on her.
Glossom - Seals off his Sword and Axe weaknesses. Only weak to Dark attacks.
Varkyn- Summons a wisp that hits you with light attacks, SP draining attacks and BP attacks. It also counters if it’s weakness is struck and cannot be killed unless Varkyn is KO’d.

I disagree. I cleared all three with my main guys at 70-75 and 4 star breakers at 65-70. Even lower for tikilen where except my lvl 80 scarecrow everyone's at 65. Awakenings are more important then levels, so if anyone has to choose between level up or awaken a 4 star, they should first do awakening (assuming the char is already lvl 65 for that influence)
Game peaks at Master of all. Everything after is garbage.
Best way to grind ?
For levels? Defeat Auguste in the Intermediate rematch. Find a rhythm and you’ll be able to clear him quickly. You’ll get a Supreme Experience Nut (S) every time you win which gives you 250,000 exp.

Alfyn and Therion are both fantastic at what they do and Lianna is an amazing breaker for both staff and ice while also doing the typical cleric things. Her only shortcoming is just how ridiculous Ophilia and Rinyuu are but she's an amazing unit in her own right (also pairs very nicely with Viola to hit debuff cap on both atk and e.atk). Any one of them is worth pulling for.

How many hours til maintenance? I got fricked once today in a different game, I don't wanna get fricked again.
Blew my 13 pulls for a dupe Odette, dupe Fiore and H'aanit. Was really hoping for Lianna, but I am glad to have Odette at A1 now and I guess I'm good for bow-centric content for a while now with both Scarecrow and H'aanit.
Managed to scrounge together another 10 pull and a few singles since then and that's another 5* that isn't Lianna. At least he's new I guess. I was hoping between him and Primrose I'd have what it takes to take down the Donescu level 100 guy for some extra rubies, but even on my best attempts I came a little short so it would take some phenomenal luck to beat him.
I’ve been ITCHING to get this motherfricker since I learned he existed. My main team’s lacking a dark character. And a Dark Cleric would fit the bill perfectly.
I’m hoping that with this next month I’ll be able to pull it off. I will need to do it soon since my chances of him dwindle with every week.

You're not missing out on much, he's not a great character by any means. I appreicate him for being an oddball both in terms of his character and his combat abilities, but a general purpose never really needs to have all elements covered. Good luck on your hunt for him.
In other news, I did another couple of singles for Lianna. Up to 149 pulls now and pulled another 5* that wasn't her or even anyone new. This time it's a dupe Gilderoy.

Exchange added Historic Exchange for Battle-Tested weapons. I was surprised to see that not only can you trade in Hist. Materials, but you can also trade in Silver and Bronze seals (not Gold, guessing you might be able to in a different exchange in the future) along with all of those Bronze seal of x and Silver medal of x accessories from Hunts. This is the sell button I needed.
What are Historic Fragments used for? And what're Fragments of Greed while I'm at it.
Basically they get you Battle-Tested Weapons which you’ll be using to forge level IV weapons. You can get them while fighting the Veteran Fighters.
Shards of Greed you get fighting the Advanced Masters to score special accessories (Extra Gold For a hunter, Extra Attack for a Warrior, Extra Experience for a Thief)
Ah, thanks! So it's a way to eventually guarantee a BT weapon if you have shit luck getting them to drop like me. I've only faced the spear lady and tome guy, but I tried grinding the tome guy and he's yet to drop a book for me.
I doubt I can handle the Advanced rematches if I haven't beat any arena champions yet but that's what I love about this game: it's all permanent, I can take my sweet time with it. Probably gonna see about that new Alpaca quest tonight just 'cause it's more daily income and I gotta do Lianna's prologue to get that damn red "!" to go away from my Quest icon. Man, I wish I could roll for her but no step up makes it too rich for my blood.

Exchange silver Guidestones for silver shards. Then Exchange 30,000 silver shards for one Golden Cookie. The rest will fall into place.
Remember, the hardest part is getting that character in the first place.

Do alpacas really smell good?
Second reroll. Worth keeping? I know the dancer is supposed to be one of the best characters in the game, but is the other 5 star good or should I try to go for Viola + Lyn? Also, is it even a good time to reroll? After tutorial, mail only gives about 4 ruby rolls and another 6 (?) blue thing rolls. Feels kinda bad having to go through each roll rather than going for that tenner.
The other is just an okay 5*. They're releasing THE busted apothecary next week.
Sacred Blaze Banner is an excellent time to reroll. Every unit is guaranteed 4* or higher, which cuts out all the 3* max trash units and guarantees that any unit you pull will be 4* right out of the box. The limited units, so far Odette and Lianna, are also pretty powerful if you manage to pull them.

Rerolling fricking sucks right now imo. Got giga lucky with my pull, because yesterday they were giving away 150 rubies in the mail, and today its just 60. You can do a couple of extra steps with your feats and influence to get to 300 rubies, but between that and rerolling for the starting character you want, it's a hassle. Didn't mind it much cause I've been doing it while watching a show, so it's aight.
A 4.5 can turn into a 5-star given enough time and dedication. Just work on your hunts and/or convert your silver Guidestones into silver guide shards and you’ll be good.
Odette+Lynette is pretty great. Odette is super powerful and gets you good coverage on two elements. Lynette fits into everything as a buffer. Don't worry about 4.5 stars, you will eventually luck into upgrading them using hunts

I got Sofia capped. Three more will soon follow.... And it takes so long to build up the Guidestones to raise the cap....
Well, it makes sense to keep them in the group for a while, since they gain experience for the next level anyway.
The value of experience decreases drastically at 90+ levels. There are just too many ways to get it effortlessly. Nut farm, Hunts, three advertising Caits, a dragon etc. As for directed farming, Auguste can help raise a new 5* from zero to 70+ (working height) extremely quickly, even if the entire stash of nuts has been eaten right before.
It would be nice to have a way to recycle nuts, because with the upcoming farm upgrade there will be too many of them. So many that the only obstacle to level 100 will be guidestones.
For example, we could feed them to a cat from the Nameless Town (with certain limitations, no overfeeding), and his preferences would change every week20 hours between the top three nuts. At some point, he would grow up, start talking, got the Path Action or whatever. Something. The stash shouldn't be useless.
Nabbed Lianna in two pulls, but ruby reserves are running low. It looks like it's better to wait for Alfyn than to try for Therion now, right? I already have one 5* apothecary (Theo) and one 5* thief (Viola).

Any word on who’s banner is next?
I've yet to do really any endgame content (BT NPCs, arena champs, black dragon, Bravely NPC, etc), I mostly just log in and do dailies and play through the main story (haven't done latest chapter yet).
What should I be focusing on so I can make the move to endgame like you guys? What should I be doing daily? I think my next step should be the BT NPCs so I can make "IV" weapons to fight arena champs with.
Depends how far you are in the game.
Go ahead and do the latest chapter. Assuming you’re past level 64, go and grind for Twilight equipment.
Get an armor, headgear and weapon for each person (defeat the regular enemies in the Sufrataljah region).
Next, try to forge all your Twilight weapons to Twilight III weapons. You can get the materials by killing the four elite enemies in the Sufrataljah Palace.
This last part will take you DAYS to accomplish. Just remember that the Silver Wind Sentry and the Warrior respawn every 10 hours while the Golden Guardian and the Golden Curator respawn every 20 hours. Rinse and repeat until all 8 of your party members have Twilight III weapons.
You should have some decent levels under your belt.

It hasn't been raking in huge cash, but they've also been incredibly moronic about monetization and seem to at least be experimenting (though so far their attempts have been pretty laughable). They've also been blueballing us by not releasing the most anticipated character since launch so who the frick knows what they're doing. If they stopped being greedy morons I think they could turn it around but Square has consistently been remarkably out of touch with reality so it's basically pure chance whether that happens or not
The game itself is fun though so even if it doesn't end up lasting long I think it's worth playing.
The main storyline up through the Master of X chapters is like a very enjoyable single player RPG, so if you're having fun with the game on those terms it's worth it.

Wind Dancer Harley! Probably. He sucks. But kinda good against Ri'tu. Shortly before the tournament, it's safe to assume that a moderately useful character will come out that fits against the new champion. There are few other options, however: Cyrus (lol), Nonya (lmao), Mooloo, Molrusso, Prome, Chloe. The first two are very unlikely, but the rest have slightly higher chances. It's hard to imagine who else they might release, but some other characters like Odette have already caught everyone by surprise.

Oh and for the banners, it all depends on you. For instance, ask yourself if you need a Wind Cleric on your team? If the answer is yes, by all means roll the dice. At the very least, you’re gonna get a guaranteed five-star. And if you get that same person, you get to awaken him/her and make that person more powerful.

Yep. All Step Ups have a guaranteed 5-Star at the last 10-Pull.
Sacred Blaze Guidance is the exception to this since there’s no Step-Ups for those. Which is why it’s important to have 6000 rubies saved to spark a character or at least 3000 rubies to get an accessory.

First time clearing an endgame fight on day 1! Alfyn is ridiculous, his Pomegranate Panacea allowed me to nuke Ri'tu from 50% to 1%.

Worse in terms of what? I hear she regenerates SP for the party.
That's the only thing she does though, and it's not really as valuable as you might think. She's got no aoe multi-hits and no multi-hit shield cracks so aside from providing some SP, her contribution outside of dagger-weak fights is basically none, which is pretty bad for a utility character. That puts her in a very awkward where she's only useful for a very small subset of fights and even in those fights she only shines if you just happen to have another banger of a character who for whatever reason is SP starved.
Level 90 is plenty good for her (my team was in their 80s when I first did it), but a generic main team probably isn't well suited for the fight. Ideally you want enough sustained aoe damage to kill the fox on a 2-turn cycle so you do need a lot of firepower. Pic related is my current team which handles her very well, though it used to be a lot weaker and I had to rely on allies to get past the fight at all.

You forgot that we already have Cardona as a SP donate bot who has additional use beyond that (giving taunt to any unit in the front row). And also a 3-hit AOE spear + 4-hit RT ice. And is in a class that isn’t completely overloaded with overpowered units, because even ignoring the JP only ones we still have Viola’s ridiculous debuff abilities, Adelle’s raw damage, and Therion’s obscene burst. Even Heathcote has much better nuke potential and is a godsend for murdering caits thanks to his priority skill.
There is nothing worth using Nicola for, to the point even the 4* thieves mostly kick her ass in usefulness in niche situations. Or not so niche in the case of Wingate.
She’s a 5* that is only even remotely useful if you have literally zero other 5* thieves at all. And that includes the freebie in Ri’tu, so even if you’re waiting for one of the like 5 game breaking thieves she still has a very limited shelf life.
There is, literally, objectively, ZERO REASON to pull for Nicola. Spending rubies for her is setting your rubies/wallet on fire for zero worthwhile reason. If you ever listen to me regarding pull advice, listen to this. Please.

Poor girl, not only is she the most straightforward arena fight yet, but she's also shockingly easy to face tank with just an attack debuff or two and gets shat on by two precious champions along with being weak to the two most stacked elements in the game at the moment.
I wish she was a little better as a unit too, but I won't say no to a free unit.

Yes, and my first step pull was Eliza! I was wanting her, she's the only 5 star warrior I'm missing and I love warrior ladies. Only issue is she's 4.5* and despite doing hunts that can drop sword seals every single day (because I'm actually trying to get tome and axe seals), I still don't have a single sacred seal of the thunderblade. Hopefully the warrior tower is the first one added like in JP.

The only thing you really can do is just do the story. Pretty much everything in the game is gated behind story progression. Keep an eye out for Nameless Town quests as they pop up, but aside from that you can pretty safely ignore most other things until you're at least done with the Master of All storyline.

You said it. My main team’s only at level 90. Not sure if that’s enough to take on the Adventurer. Almost ready to get Elvis to 5-Star rank. Only 4 more Hero Seals left.

I haven't even done the level 80 adventurer fight. I tried once around when the collab ended and the dumb fox blocked all my attacks so I haven't gone back.
Timing is gonna be CRUCIAL when taking on the Adventurer. Her Fox will ALWAYS buff her, especially with cover. And whenever the Fox is downed, the Adventurer will revive him on the next turn.
The key is to time it so that you can kill the Fox AND Break the Adventurer on the same turn. Then you can go to town on her.
The other key thing: Make GODDAMN sure the Fox and the Adventurer are killed on the exact same turn. Because the Fox can revive the Adventurer AT FULL FRICKING HP. If this happens the first time, just run. You’ll still get credit for defeating the Adventurer.

Lucky, I've pulled her twice at 4.5* and still haven't gotten a tome seal despite running tome seal hunts twice a day for almost as long as they've been available.

Therese is just like Sophia but with lightning. Thing is, she’s not as powerful.
BUT she can scan for weaknesses.
It's not just that she's less powerful, her lightning resist down skill is a lot worse than Sofia's ice res down as it only applies 2 stacks rather than 6 and is tied to a tome skill instead of her primary element.

Holy frick I'm mad. You know the level 50 hunt and level 74 expert hunt? The ones that give seals for sword/axe/tome/fan? I just got my second gold seal from them. It's a second fan seal. My 4.5* characters are

Very convenient that all my 4.5* characters have their seals drop in the same hunt. But no. I get the fan one TWICE and none of the others. I wish we could trade gold seals for others of their kind.

Turns out the wait wasn't much longer! Now Lumis finally has access to the two skills people use her for: 4 hit axe and aoe heal+regen. And I was already using her every day in my main squad without those! I still need two tome seals and a sword one though, so I think I'll stick with this hunt.

If there's any new data to be mined it'll usually be within a day or two of an update, so either on Wednesday or next next week's Wednesday since the banner for the coming week has already been datamined.

Given some time it's pretty likely she'll spook you while pulling for someone else so I wouldn't recommend it, but follow your heart anon.
My rant probably won't help, but I'll try.
All in all, her kit is designed to be offensively useless. Most of her skills are focused on mana regeneration, but until Ultimates appear, she have only single-target mana restoration, everything else (2 attacks and 2 passives) works only for her and it doesn't make any sense.
Even mana-hungry characters who are constantly should be in the front row don't need as much mana as she has. And she doesn't have costly skills to justify that amount of mana nor she doesn't have to be in the front row all the time. Moreover, when you upgrade her skills they gift you with ABSOLUTELY USELESS SP cost reduction bonus, despite the fact that:
1. To be a good DPS, Nicola lacks potency (not a single skill above 200) and damage up passives.
2. Aside from mana restoration and two AoE debuffs, she doesn't have utility skills to be a good support character.
3. And despite having 4-hit random-target, 3-hit single-target and relatively high speed, Nicola can't be a good initiator because her shieldbreak hits only once and only one target. Any 4* Thief surpasses her in this regard.
Basically she's bad at everything thieves have to do.
Also Varkyn may get a stroke just by watching her ooze mana. Think about his feelings.
Yet she's charmingly adorable. Quite strange actually. There is a waifu for every taste, and each surpasses Nicola in their field: want femme fatale - there you go, Viola, Primrose, Ninalana, Chloe; want someone absurdly cute - Merrit, Noelle, Varkyn, Sophia, Pia. But somehow, only Nicola seems special. Definately must pull.
