They replaced her 1* passive with a passive 5% PATK to the entire front row if she has 50% or more SP, so now she can make your physical attackers hit harder while sitting in the backrow forever!
5% seems a bit low to be excited about, if they made that a 10 I think I'd be happy to get spooked by her some day.

I don't grind exp, I find I have barely enough time for dailies as is and I'm pretty casual.

Tikilen will be the first one I try. I think I have almost all the best chars to face her, I just want to get good weapons first and maybe figure out who to bring. Who would be the perfect Tikilen team these days?

Tressa is wonderful, a real treasure. I still prefer H'aanit as far as OG Octopath girls go and Fiore is probably my fave of the CotC original characters.
Speaking of OG Octopath, does that game have any missables? I gotta get back to my run, I was just starting Tressa's first chapter last time.
Scarecrow and Odette alone can already do the heavy lifting for you. And you've already got a regen caster and two of the best supports in Viola and Lynette so just swap out Lumis and Fiore (maybe Tressa too, but her tanking can be useful so that's optional) for characters with relevant utility. H'aanit if you've got her, or Ashlan to help deal with the crit phase. Camilla is a good option too for additional regen and to help with breaking, Kurtz to cap out Viola's attack debuff, another buffer to help cap out Lynette's buffs and any other light or bow attackers you've got are all fine options. You should be able to breeze through the fight pretty easily either way as long as you're decently leveled and equipped.
I have everyone except Millard, Theo, Gilderoy, Heathcote, Primrose, Adelle, Stead, Lionel, Therion, Alfyn, Leanna, that wind cleric that was last banner and now Nicola. Probably shouldv'e mentioned that, though I don't think most of those are particularly good for Tikilen.
In that case I'd just bring Odette, Scarecrow and H'aanit as my damage dealers/breakers, Viola and Lynette for their buffs and debuffs, Agnès for regen and the rest of your team barely even matters. You can probably get away with just sticking Eliza behind Odette for even more damage output, Wingate behind H'aanit for bonus damage on break and maybe Tressa as insurance if things go south.

I had to spark...but I guess it's at least 100 instead of 200. I also got Cardona from my veteran seal, which is nice, now I finally have a 5* in each class.
I just started this game, did 3 single pulls and got a 4.5 cyrus, is that good? Don't know what 4.5 means but i hope he is good since he was cool in OG Octopath.
Cyrus as a 5* is a very versatile, strong character. Having him as a 4.5* means you either need to get very lucky with drops from hunts or dump a significant amount of resources into unlocking his final two skills (along with the stats associated with the final skill board) and raise his level cap. Unfortunately for Cyrus, that means being locked out of both aoe and multi-hit options for two of his elements which is a major blow to his effectiveness. Another downside of this is that as a pure damage dealer, the missing stats hurt him more than they would a more utility oriented character.
A 4.5-star caps at level 60. A 5-star caps at level 80. That alone should speak volumes as to what you’re missing. You can either roll again, or simply Class him Up the hard way, using a Sacred Seal of the Scholarking.
I would reroll for a 5* Cyrus if you can for his full potential.

I do wish Z'aanta was 5* but I really can't complain. This was a good showing considering how shit it could have been instead.
Veteran Sacred Seal gave me Scarecrow. Finally one of my main party members to Awaken. Just need Sophia and Viola and everyone‘ll be A1.
I haven't logged in today and I'm honestly scared to. These pulls fill me with dread. I only have 1700 rubies so I should probably pass on Cyrus and hope to get him...months later, I guess? Paid only step up is a massive disappointment. If it was a normal one, I could do the five steps and have good odds but as it is, it would cost me 1500 to do five regular pulls at terrible odds with nothing guaranteed at the end.
But it's Cyrus. And my ice, fire and lightning could all use a boost. The thought of getting him and him being only 4.5* is also terrifying, as all of my recent 5 stars have been 4.5 stars, despite the chance being half that of a 5 star, and I'm the guy who has been gunning for tome gold seals since the beginning without a single drop (still need one for Sophia ever since her first banner and one for Therese too, who I pulled twice at 4.5*).
Free pull and normal seals were whatever, but veteran seal got me Haanit, also got 4.5 Cyrus in 2 tenfolds, so I'd say it was a pretty good day for me.

My veteran's seal was...Eliza. I know she's not good, but I pulled her recently at 4.5* so this is a free class up! I had no thunderblade seals. I like her, warrior ladies are my fave. I hear her best use is to sit behind Cyrus and buff him so...I think I'll try his banner, risky and horrible as it is. God, hundreds of dollars to do the paid step up to guarantee him, what a crock that is.
I spent it all...2100 rubies, no Cyrus. My first pull got me a 4.5* Hasumi (seriously, what's with all the 4.5*s when they're half as rare?!) but I already had her at 5*, so now she's A1.
Second pull got me 4.5* Gilderoy (I have no spear seals, wtf), who I didn't have.

And 78 traveler stories, 5 rubies from each prologue, that's 390 more rubies (not sure if you get more from completing them). I have 100 rubies right now. I think the arena champs give some rubies too, right? There's no way I can beat the level 100 NPCs for their ruby prizes. Does the new chapter of the story give rubies?

While that’s technically true, the Step Ups come with other prizes such as Gold Guidestones and the final step always ends with you getting a 5-Star character in your party.

So what are the best new equipments for magic and physical characters?
Adamant weapons are the best for all units for now. However, the next update will bring Atlas weapons, which will outclass Adamant in the magic department. This essentially turns it into another Innocent/Fenrir situation.
So sacred stuff are no good?
Yup. Although you could probably get away with skipping one or two weapon updates since we're on an accelerated schedule anyways if you're still using Sacred. I'm personally only going to farm again once Yan Long releases since I heard he's way harder than the previous tourney bosses.
do you know if there's any upcoming weapon line that doesn't use BTs as an upgrade? I don't even mind farming elites once per day that much, but making a bunch of teams just to farm those npcs is too much of a pain in the ass.
There will be in the future, but it'll be a while before we get to those. The BT farm really isn't that bad as they pretty much just boil down to picking your strongest characters for the relevant elements and mashing buttons and if your 5* roster is decent you can even have a single team capable of beating several of them to minimize fiddling in menus.
Putting together teams for each of them sounds like a lot of work, but at this point they've been powercrept by even basic tier III gear to the point where their damage output is negligible and any ragtag team with the appropriate elements can take them down without much thought or effort.
Yeah, I just made a team to beat the axe BT for the memoir and it went way smoother than I remembered it. But it's still too much of a pain the the ass to make that many teams and travel through the world in order to find them daily.
I think I'd rather skip some weapons and trade hunt accessories for BT weapons whenever I feel I'm too far behind.
Word of advice. Hold on to your Historic Fragments. Battle Tested Weapons become obsolete after Bestower of Fame 3. But you’ll still be using Historical Fragments for other things such as Awakening Stones for certain 4-Star Travelers and for something special for Part Four of Champions of the Continent (Bestower of All)

How long would it take to complete master of all chapter 8 for the mission? Also what level would you be for that?
I did it! And I got not 100, but 200 rubies out of it! Elvis is 5* too, always nice to have another lightning user. I'm definitely undergeared though, no way am I beating the level 100 adventurer fight, let alone grinding it for heroite to awaken Elvis.
I really need to get those BT weapons for my crew. Anyway, I'm off to do more Cyrus pulls!
The actual chapter doesn't take too long, as it's basically just the castle and the boss fight with cutscenes interspersed iirc. You'll want the level 60 meteorite gear though, so I imagine you'll wanna be around that level. So long as you're level 60+ and well geared, you should be fine.

I'm at 85 Cyrus frags, just need 15 more to pity. Single pulls really are cursed as frick for me, I won't be doing this again. I'm not sure if there's any other good sources of rubies (can you get them from the arena fights that happen before the champion themself?), so I'll just do some traveler stories for five more pulls, then I might as well drop 15 bucks that Google gifted me the other day to buy the $6.99 Level Up pack twice for 100 paid rubies and do the first step of Cyrus' paid-only step up. The step up gives the same frags as the normal Chosen Traveler banner, right? The first step for 100 paid should give 10 frags?

Whoa. Okay, once Christmas is over, I'm gonna try and beat up the non-champion arena fights! I figure if I can beat the level 80 adventurer, they should all be doable.
They are. Three regular fights against random city NPCs - then one against an elite monster(s) - two battles against slightly stronger citizens - sudden difficulty spike - almost BT NPC in the semi-finals who will gift you some nifty accessory - and then a champion.

What is Ri’tu and Gertrude’s gimmick?
I beat Ri’tu before I could figure out her thing (I’m guessing she simply multi-hits). And I wanna get ready for the next arena battle.
Ri'tu adds extra hits to her attacks on low HP. She wastes a turn setting it up though, which is prime priority for you to just blast her. And she will waste yet another turn when she goes lower, if you haven't killed her at this point somehow.
Gertrude has shieldguard, which means each unit can only shave 1 shield point off her at a time. Multihit attacks still do damage as usual, but all the hits except the first don't shave shield points.

You should never really save stones for a damage dealer. It's only ever a good idea for specific utility characters, namely Lynette for us right now and it's an especially bad investment for characters with multi-element ultimates like Cyrus who will rarely if ever hit weakness with every hit.
This'll sound moronic, but I don't like free summon campaigns. I've played several games that have done "free summons every day for X days" campaigns and every time without fail, I get nothing but trash low rarity dupes while I have to sit by and watch others get some cool things for free. All it does is make me feel bad, even though it should be an objectively good and beneficial thing.
Bros should I be sad that I got Heathcote instead of a cute girl as my free 4.5-5 Star unit? I guess he is pretty good for his Niche right?

He doesn't really have a niche. Shield cracking is something most thieves do and he doesn't really do it any better than other much better 5* thieves. He also completely lacks utility so you're unlikely to want to bring him to fights where he can't hit weakness. His big nuke being priority is also purely a detriment because it reduces his effective nuking window from 2 turns to 1 because you can't just have a faster thief go first and break a target to give him 2 turns of break damage. He also suffers from low base attack compared to other thieves so he's actually pretty bad as a damage dealer which is the only thing he really does.

Cyrus just popped my f2p cherry. I got up to 90 frags on his banner with no sign of him, then decided to buy 100 paid gems (the cheapest weekly level up pack twice) to do the first step of his fortuned step up, which is what gave me Heathcote in pic related and the last 10 frags to pity Cyrus.
It cost me 16 maplebucks, and I justified it to myself because Google fricked up with my account and recently gifted me 15 google play dollars that expire in a year, so spending 1 dollar for Cyrus felt like a good investment considering I already tossed all my free rubies at him and got so close to pity.
The level up packs came with 5 boost berries each so now I have 10. Should I use nuts to get Cyrus to level 90 and then berries from 91 to 100? Not that I have the gold guidestones for that, but I'm talking about the future once I have him uncapped.
And to celebrate getting Cyrus, I decided to finally, FINALLY try and beat my first arena champion. Now all the warrior qts are mine! Thanks again to the anons who've given me advice, this was an easy win on the first try, though I had bad timing on the crit phase so that was an annoying 7 turns to sit through. Seriously, no crits except H'aanit's one guaranteed one every turn, not even any from Scarecrow after casting his self crit buff!

I'm not sure if I want to add this to my grind, but the dude said it only takes him 4 minutes with this one team, so maybe it's not that bad? The most interesting thing was learning traveler's seals get added to the weekly memory frag exchange eventually, which means we can grind for pulls.

Double Wide Burst and Debilitate are her bread and butter.
Anti-attack is mandatory for any fight lasting more than 3 turns. Absolutely useless otherwise, so it's a free slot if you go against BT guys or a dragon.
The last slot: kinda useless. If it's a short fight, she doesn't need anything other than Debilitate and maybe DWB/Crimson Blast/Triple Edge depending on the situation. If it's a long fight and the third slot is occupied by Anti-Attack, then you need special conditions like several opponents whose weaknesses Viola can hitб so that the fourth skill can come in handy. Only Ri'tu and Adventurer come to mind.
But anyway, having 3-hit anything is always nice.
The fourth slot will be useful, perhaps, against Gertrude, and only because of her gimmick. SP Snatch, HP Snatch, Anti-attack, Debilitate. This way Viola can stand 95% of the time in the front row with the regen caster behind her. Absolutely independent and without Scarves. It's hard to speculate how this fight will go right now, but I might want Viola to do some damage, so she'll be on a separate row from Lynette and I could also give her a couple of Dagger damage up accessories.

idk bro, you're way stronger than me. Maybe both her debuffs, Double Wide Burst and her 3 hit dagger? That way, you can use her 3 hit dagger if you bring her to a dagger weak fight, and if there are other enemies present without dagger weakness you can hit 'em all with Double Wide Burst. I suppose you could also try giving her Blazing Dagger so she can cap phys def down on her own when combined with her main def debuff.
While we're asking for recommendations, what's the best team I could make for Glossom cup? I'm
so I have all travelers except Primrose, Stead, Lionel, Lianna, Adelle and the ones that haven't been added to the permanent pool yet (except Therion and Cyrus, I did get them.)

He's easy, but has an unfortunate weakness set.
His gimmick is less annoying as he still takes damage and can be broken by Thieves.
Among 4*, Heinz and Wingate will be the most useful. It's also nice to have Pdef buffPatk debuff, so MeenaKurtz may help. Any Apothecary will be good due to high survivability, RodionShelby especially.
And there're a huge number of 5* you can take:
Tressa - turns the whole fight into a comedy. Most of the damage will be physical, so her Sidestep and Take Command have insane synergy. Moreover, she can deal damage.
Cardona is not must-have character, but she is a great stress reliever for Tressa. Can poke Glossom a little.
Theo - DABUR HARBESTO!1 and also regen.
Heathcote - deals meh damage at the beginning, breaks shields at the end. Has exceptional speed.

There're characters that will annihilate adds, but become useless when Glossom is alone, it's worth considering that their partner will be in the front row all the time, once they finish devouring adds. These I would include Fiore and Odette.
The choice of utility characters is up to you, but given the abundance of Pdmg and the lack of Dark, you'll definitely want to see Pdef/Patk buffs and Patk debuff capped. Thus you can use Therion, Hasumi, Millard etc.
Tactics are also simple.
1. Cheese - just rely on Tressa.
2. Safe - don't take tank or use them for damage, take more Apothecaries and put a character in each row that breaks 2-3 shields during Dark-only phase.
3. Quick - forget about Dark damage and Thieves completely, plan the fight from the very beginning to skip Dark phase (when Glossom's HP goes from yellow to red). Pick characters from their damage output. For short-term survivability having Theo is enough. Most of damage in this case will be inflicted by Wind, Axes and Swords. This implies the usefulness of characters whose in a normal situation no one would take: Pia, Sigrid, Menno, Laura.

Okay, so out of who you listed, I guess I should go...Lumis, Agnes, Tressa, Heathcote, Therion, Hasumi, Heinz and Wingate? Not sure if I should try and fit in Fiore for sword vs adds and my only 5* dark damage vs Glossom or maybe squeeze in Viola for more debuffs, maybe instead of Hasumi or Wingate?
Hasumi caps Pdef up buff and can heal, which is useful even when there are three other characters doing the same. Wingate is a good initiator due to his 2-hit Dark AoE and high speed, but he deals very little damage and does nothing that Viola can't copy (excluding his passive, it's great). She is infinitely faster, her Double Wide Burst does no damage either, and most importantly she can exceed Therion's debuffs.
This appears to be a very nice defensive party. The main thing now is to think about the positions. As the main damage dealers, Tressa, Heinz and Lumis are best placed separately, otherwise there may not be enough damage in the mid-late battle, and unlike Tikilen, Glossom only gets stronger the longer the match goes on. As the main potential damage recipient, Tressa can be placed separately from Hasumi and Agnes, so she can always be under the 30% Pdef up buff. She can also be given SP scarves, but Hasumi can probably handle SP regeneration well.
The only thing that may be missing is the damage buffer, standing apart from damage dealers. Primrose or Lynette would be perfect. Or Glossom. He performs surprisingly well against himself. As a support character, he can cap Pdef/Patk buffs on the entire front row and can also cast mass Pdef debuff. This will give additional freedom in the choice of DPS.
Then you get something like:
Tressa - Heathcote/Viola/Therion.
Lumis - Agnes/Heathcote/Therion/Viola.
Heinz - Heathcote/Therion/Viola. (he's fragile and can't heal himself, he's better off with Agnes' long regeneration)
Hasumi (or offensive dancer) - Therion/Heathcote/Viola. (the lack of an initiator here can have a bad effect in the end, so no Agnes)
Viola is a great match for an offensive dancer like Glossom due to the passive debuff extension. Replacing any (Heathcote or Therion) thief with Fiore makes sense if you want to just skip the start of the battle and fight Glossom with what you have.

I don't know if I'm just too used to Viola and Gilderoy by now, but after finally getting Tressa and Therion that I wanted for so long, they feel kind of underwhelming. I mean, Tressa stomps on physical enemies, sure, but has nothing against magic and feels more squishy in general than Gilderoy while Therion just feels like a Viola with worse debuffs that can dual cast from time to time which doesn't really seem worth missing out on Viola's debuffs if I've gotta choose one of the two (and I most likely will as both of them are really sp heavy and would have to share sp regen acessories).
I wonder if I'm missing something or if it's really like that.
As someone who has Tressa on my main tram, I can say she DEFINITELY rocks the casbah! Especially true if you get her to Awakening II. She carries some awesome final skills. But her coup de grace is that she’s a great evasion tank. Use Sidestep and follow it up with Provoke and you’ll have enemies whiffing their attacks trying to hit Tressa.
Therion on the other hand is a stronger thief (especially with his Divine Grace) but a weaker debuffer (Attack and Defense only). That’s all I can say, though I was especially lucky to get him at Awakening III.
These New Year's gibs are pretty sweet! Decent amount of rubies and 10 traveler's seals; they've never given out more than 3 at a time before. And some more free pulls! Not that any of the free pulls have given me anything, but finally, finally the 9th traveler's seal from the 10 we got gave me my first ever 5* from a single pull since the game launched: Therese #3!
The reason I'm happy about another Therese dupe is this is the first time I got her at 5*, so free class up! She's been in tome hunts for so long, her level cap is all the way at 96.
But that's still not as bad as the 4.5* Sophia I got off her first banner, who has been searching for a scholarking gold seal for so long, she has gotten to level cap 79 (of 80), 5 bloody gold guidestones at a time and STILL I've never seen a single one!
But that ends this month! I only had enough rubies to do the first step of the New Year's step up (which gave me nothing), but if I can do step 4 before January ends, I can trade in 40 New Year's fragments for ANY gold seal. This is a pretty good deal bros if you're like me and have been failing to get a certain gold class up seal for months and months.
The New Year pull was somewhat productive.

4800 rubies is a tall order for a single spark, so don't worry. Though you would get like four guaranteed 5 stars and four guaranteed 4.5 or 5 stars along the way I suppose.
Okay, who could be next? Gertrude Cup is right around the corner. Dagger, Bow, Fire. I'd bet on some cool Hunter like Kersjes. Or Prome (support character, can cap -30% fire def, has heal+regen, deals some fire damage, can use a unique damage reduction up to 40% buff, which may come quite handy against random 4k oneshot despite the debuffs).
But what is more important and what no one seems to care about anymore. Where are the other 4*? Did they decide to just cut them out of the game? 4* are not that important, but for now they will make a useful bulk in the Tower. So far, even the whales cannot put two rows of 5* of the same class. It's not mandatory to have, but the upper floors of the Tower are pretty hard and I doubt anyone would like to use 3* stubs on them.

Yep, it was Narr, a dark hunter, iirc. Moreover, they already teased some of them in memories: first Lolo and recently Cerna, as if they exist and are already settled band members.

Afaik there's nothing important/unique you can permanently miss from path actions. I remember some NPCs do disappear, but it's very rare and they only have trash iirc. Only example of the top of my head is the guys in the mafia dude's house in Valore that aren't there after you do Chapter 2 of Master of Wealth.
But there ARE good things in path actions that are permanently available, like Dragon Scarves.

Yeah, if you're pulling anyway it's a fantastic bonus, but I don't think I'd pull specifically for the class up seal. That said, the rate on hunts dropping them is horrible. I think it's supposed to be 1% but I've been trying to get just one scholar seal for Sophia for almost six months now and it still isn't dropping.
They can drop from literally any hunt except collab ones, but if you have 500 influence (or 600 for expert hunts), you get the max number of chances for them to drop per hunt (three).
I decided to bite the bullet and pull 4 times on NY for Golden Seal. Scarecrow and Z'aanta have been sitting useless for too long. Then H'aanit just show up to make things even worse.
Which way do I go? I know Z'aanta is best for single target. Between Scarecrow and H'aanit, I'm leaning toward H'aanit for the higher potency AOE and 20%ATK&DEF self-buff, even if it's randomly 3-5. Scarecrow has 15%ATK&CRIT, but H'aanit has a guaranteed Crit attack so it's not as impressive. 4-hit AOE is nice but H'aanit can match that on average and has an greater than 170 Bow nukes. I'm not starved for anyone's elemental attacks thanks to Odette+Cyrus.
I haven't done Tikilen yet but that's just from pure laziness. I have 5* Theo and every 4* at Awakening III, at least level 70

Need help deciding which of the three 4.5 characters from the above photo I got from the New Years step up are worth upgrading since I have to choose one, bottom is what I have. If it helps deciding I do have an almost maxed Ashlan, Camilla, and Noelle as well
Either Cardona or Stead, depends on what you need. Definitely not Eliza though, she does her job sitting nicely behind Cyrus just fine at 4.5*.
It's up to you, but I'd pick Stead. Cardona is a support character and a tank, all of her utility skills are within the 4* range. As a tank, she is no good right now, but Gilderoy will do just fine with this role. Eliza is just a backpack. Stead in this case is more of a DPS than a support character, although he is good at both. Without Primrose, there is no one else to deal dark damage, and DPS without 5* suffers much more than any other class.

Thankfully beating up the adventurer and hearing that absolute banger of a song on a daily basis spurred me to finally give it a shot. I don't even mind that the collab just straight up drops a major spoiler on you because they're not exactly subtle with the foreshadowing anyway and that little title screen change is the best part of the twist.
Yeah, the loop does overstay its welcome but I always felt people that complained about how it ruined the game or whatever just have some severe ADHD or something. Now just stay far away from Second as to not sour your impressions on the series, unless you don't care about the story, characters and music, it has absolutely nothing to do with the teaser at the end of Default.
I've heard Second is controversial, but I'll still play it to form my own opinions, though I still have the true ending to get to along with Dimension's Hasp. The composer change definitely seems like a strange move to me because the music really does contribute a lot and what little I've heard of Second's ost sounds kinda generic, but I think I'll still have a good enough time unless they somehow majorly fricked up the job system too.
I'm not one of those who lets a bad game sour previous entries for me so at worst I'll just be slightly disappointed and move on. If I could have fun with Zero Time Dilemma despite its many problems, I think I can still get something out of Bravely Second.

As moronic as the twists were, I had fun with it too, but Second's story was worse than ZTD for me, both as a sequel and on its own, as ZTD was actually interesting until it got pants on head moronic.
It's funny how ZTD's discussion and memes were way more enjoyable than the actual game though, I still laugh from time to time when someone posts about the snails or Carlos.
Bros.... Tressa Finally came home and as a 5* No less on top of that I also got the Cute Tailor-Merchant at 5* I now own The best Girl and the second Cutest Merchant. I also managed to get Cyrus with one awakening but I had to go all the way to Pity for that. All in all this new year event has been great to me and I am glad I came back after about two months break
Now I just need to level a shitload of characters.
Also In regards to tome users I feel absolutely stacked. Odette Theresa Cyrus and Sophia all at 5* and Sophia I somehow managed to Fully awaken too. I am almost tempted to bring all of them for the big elemental bonanza team even if it's moronic

Thanks bro, congrats on your luck! Things have been rough sitting at zero rubies after Cyrus bankrupted me (had to pity to get him), but today I cleaned out all of the arena cups except for fighting the champions themselves, which gave me enough rubies to steps 2, 3 and 4 of the New Year's banner (and I'm SIX rubies shy of doing step 5!).
Got a 4.5* Tressa on step 2, bringing her to A3 (Scarecrow is my only other A3 char). I got nothing on step 3 but step 4 gave me 4.5* Gilderoy so he's A1 now (and still 4.5*, why do I get so many when they're literally twice as rare as 5 stars?!!!) and the guaranteed 4.5* in slot 10 was Lionel, so now I have every warrior released so far! I'm only missing Millard, Primrose and Stead from the permanent pool (my dark element sucks so bad). I'm praying to get Prim as my guaranteed 5* once I find six more rubies.

Still, while I enjoy this game, I think this game sorta deserves its small playerbase. This game's frick ups is obviously out of malice considering they once straight up turned a once-free banner into paid only (Adelle). They're improving, but having that one frick up happen during a collab, the one moment where you're supposed to draw in more players, will forever taint this game's name. People WILL bring this up everytime someone asks "why shouldn't I play this game?".
Going back to the picture you posted, I also play the game where she's from. The global version of it has its flaws, but at least the frick ups come from incompetence and not malice.

I already mentioned the Adelle banner fiasco, another that sticks out is us getting 88 rubies for Octopath 2 announcement while JP got 300. I don't understand why they bother changing it, wouldn't it be easier to just copy paste the rewards/banner/whatever? They're putting in more work just to frick us.
Oh, and I should mention, I'm pretty neutral on the sped up schedule. It's one of the two changes I don't actively dislike (the other is the buffed Travelers) I used to complain about going 2× speed while we get no extra gibs to account for it, but they have had halved the number of pulls needed to spark sometimes. It's pretty inconsistent when they do it, but they've done it on banners that matter the most anyways (Therion, Cyrus). Whether they keep up with this is to be seen.
A recent one just off the top of my head is when they decided to not put free step ups on some new normal banner units just because they knew these units were popular (ie. Therion and Alfyn) when other units get step ups at release.
They might be nice on discord or their tavern talks, I don't follow it, but they definitely are trying to be as scummy as they can in order to milk the few players they have. The new years banner and Cyrus half spark surprised me to be honest, I guess they noticed that they were kicking the hornest's nest with their antics and decided to backpedal a bit before it became a repeat of BD2's collab.

And my guaranteed 5* from doing step 5 of the New Year's banner is...Tressa #5. This makes her my first fully awakened traveler since launch. Considering she came to me in my first ever ten roll and I decided not to reroll, this seems fitting.
And now I learn her unique accessory can be equipped on anyone, not just her! Is there anyone besides her that makes good use of it?
Dammit I am SUPER conflicted right now. I have over 3000 rubies stockpiled. One one hand, I can do the New Year’s Step-Up three more times and get some awakening stones for my party (The only characters I’m missing are Lumis and Millard). And I can even spark one of the other party members for an extra member or awakening stone. Such an opportunity doesn’t come often.
On the other hand, I’m holding out for a Sacred Blaze Guidance so that I can get the next Rare Traveler (I’m thinking it’ll be Dorothea). With 3000 I can get the rare accessory, with 6000 I can do a spark.
If there’s one comfort it’s that I have until the end of the month to decide.

Awakenings aren't as valuable as new characters and you're bound to get some dupes if you intend to go for pity on a Sacred Blaze banner anyway so if you really do have every general pool 5* apart from Millarnd and Lumis I see no reason for you to pull now.
Save your rubies bro. One run of the New Year's step up is plenty, only do more if you're a mega whale who can afford to drop hundreds of bucks to run it with paid rubies. Like the other guy said, it's better to wait for new characters. Now that I've done one run of the NY banner, I'm gonna save everything for 2B and A2, though with six month anniversary coming later this month, we might get another banner just as good or even better than New Year's (which is another reason to save).

It can be used to upgrade Ultimates from level 9 to 10. 6th stone and beyond will be useless, though they will be able to be traded for any non-collab stone...with the amazing ratio of 6:1...

All purely damaging Ultimates are generally considered meh, you're mostly only going to use it if using a max boosted skill during break would do less damage than the ultimate.
The good ones are the the ones that have a buff/debuff on it. They're really good because buffs/debuffs from Ultimate go on a new bracket that's separate from the usual skill/passive buffs.

No more pulling on the first step of step ups for permanent characters just 'cause it's a discounted ten pull and I've gotten some 4.5 stars off them a lot. I wanna save for those memory banners and the two collabs. Starting over from zero rubies is rough, but hopefully I'll get there.

I finally just finished Bestower of Power Ch2, so I'm caught up on story and ready to start the real equipment grind. It looks like I've powercrept the BT NPCs as I can easily farm spear lady in a few turns without her getting a single attack off. Gonna work counterclockwise from her, I hope the others are just as easy but I dread whoever's weak to dark. Does anyone have the weaknesses and gimmicks for the sword, fan, dagger and staff NPCs? I have notes from way back on the first four.

Fuuuuuuuuuuck. Staff is my weakest weapon type (all I have is Agnes) and dark is my weakest element (all I have is Fiore). I think I'll have to rely almost entirely on thieves to break this guy.

Yep, they are. And he is the strongest if you don't have characters able to hit his weaknesses.

It's best to take Viola as the initiator, but Cless will also do. Break multiple shields in 1 turn (7 or 8); break some more on the next turn to leave it at 1 or 2 and have the initiator do some debuffs (no room for buffers so if you need buffs use summon NPC this turn, arena announcer or something like that); break turn - Cless or Viola (should be the fastest) break the remaining shields, Fiore - Crumbling cut (MAX), Heinz - 160 Potency nuke (MAX), Agnes - 170 Potency nuke (MAX as well); now he's yours for the entire turn - 5* DPS from the same row with the initiator uses any nuke (MAX boosted), the rest repeat the previous move, burning the remaining BP, if any, the damage should be enough. It also makes sense not to take Barrad and Eunice at all and replace them with someone like Millard to finish him off on the last turn.
It's not the best budget strategy, but this way he dies quickly and doesn't use his strongest attack.

I do have Eliza for boosting Heinz, and that reminds me: is there a list anywhere of good chars to do nothing but sit in the back row to increase their row partner's damage? Should help speed up my grind a bit on these stages where there's only two weaknesses to hit anyway.
Wingate is great for characters with no damage up passives.
Barrad for physical damage, Eliza for magical damage. And there are 3* like Manuel and Nanna who do pretty much the same thing.
Nicola gives only 5%, but to everyone and always.
Tapir is the worst warrior, but he gives +20% sword damage upon switching rows. It's a lot, but the passive itself is pretty useless. The only use I've found of this ability was when arranging a swordsman party against advanced Auguste. To make sure he dies in one break and doesn't change his set of weaknesses, I knocked his health down with 1-hit nukes. A change of rows is needed here in any case.
And Camilla gives +10% bow damage.

Apparently his ai was stealth buffed since I beat him myself (though that was several equipment tiers behind where we're now), but I don't see why not. A few more levels on your 5*s wouldn't hurt though and I would definitely recommend swapping Wingate and Scarecrow's positions since Therion lacks innate damage passives and Wingate can give him a juicy boost to damage during break and you really want both Therion and Scarecrow to be breaking nonstop. You might need some luck with Ri'tu's random dagger move and pick up some allies to help you out. There's the near-mandatory sleep ones, but also a 4x wind npc and aoe SP regen ally around and Tythos's Cathedral which might help as well. Also a tip to save time, if you force close the app after using an ally you don't lose reputation but your ally uses aren't refunded, but if you immediately use the account transfer feature to redownload your account data you keep your ally uses so you don't have to recruit them again.

It's definitely going to be rougher without them, but Therion should be a pretty decent Odette substitute even if you are losing out on the juicy wind res down bonuses that really supercharge her damage output. That said though, gear has gotten a lot stronger so that should help make up the difference compared.

From what i understand from that Griffith looking ass he said there are more arcs to come. My team is in 66-70 level range. Is there something to look up first before carrying on?
Copper and silver guidestones, are they only used to limit break 3 and 4 star characters in addition to awakening them? Or is there a future thing to look up that requires more guidestones?
I was told to save up awakning stones for a new update coming up, ultimate charge or whatever they call it. I have few laying around like 5 for Edea, 3 for 4.5 fricking Fiore and one for Cyrus. Any tips regarding this or should I just awakening their asses right away?

1. After Master of All is the Bestower Arcs. 3 storylines of Fame/Power/Wealth, just like the Master arcs. These will unlock new areas and new weapon tiers, which currently go up to level 65 (soon to be 66). This update would give us Fame Chapter 2, rounding Global out at all Bestower Arcs being on Ch.2 with Wealth 3 being the next in line. Biggest new challenge is the Arena fights you gain access to after BoW Ch.1. Gives a lot of guidestones and rubies, with some free 5* units if you can beat them (recc. levels are somewhere around 90, but they're doable with proper team comps way below that)
2. Pretty much. You can break down silver guidestones into shards to buy gold Seals, but it's 30,000 silver shards a pop and guidestones only break down to 5 shards per stone. Much better to focus on Awakening and limit breaking first.
3. Ultimates are essentially limit breaks. They start at level 1 and can be upgraded from 9 -> 10 using an Awakening stone as the final resource for each character. It's honestly not worth it to forgo Awakening in lieu of ultimate lvl 10 for the vast majority of characters. Specific characters like Lynette will want the Ultimate lvl 10 first, but your Cyrus and Fiore will greatly appreciate the extra stats from Awakening. Cyrus' Ultimate kinda sucks and Fiore's would be gain .ore power from Awakening than raising to lvl 10.
Tl;Dr - You have even more shit to do, your level range is fine for 4*#. Keep using guidestones, it's fine. Awaken everyone ASAP except Lynette, especially that Edea. She had enough stones to fully awaken to IV and upgrade her Ultimate.
Here’s something to know about Awakening Stones. You need five of them for each character:
Awakening I - All stats + 50
Awakening II - 4th Skill Slot
Awakening III - HP + 1000
Awakening IV - Unique Accessory
You can use the fifth one to boost the character’s Ultimate to Level 10.
All other Awakening stones after that are useless. But at some point around Part 4 of this game, you have access to a shop. You can exchange an awakening stone for 1000 “awakening fragments” (for lack of a better term). You can then exchange 6000 “awakening fragments for an awakening stone of your choice. As long as it’s not a Crossover character like Adele or 2B, it’s fair game.
In my humble opinion, Awakening your characters should be priority #1. If you’re able to get to Awakening II, you’ll be sitting pretty.
Don’t worry too much about your level 10 ultimates. Though if you had to get one, get the ones that boost your stats; buffs from Ultimates stack with Buffs from skills.

Had to adjust to maximize my physical defenses and even then I needed some pretty good luck to survive those random target axe attacks. Definitely won't be farming her before more power creep except maybe to get her accessory. As a day one Viola-puller I'm pretty stoked I finally found a reason to put Kurtz to use though. His kit is really cool but it's hard to compete with 5*s.

Fuuuuuuuuuck. As a lucklet poorgay, I desperately need more rubies, so I'll have to pray I can one day get my team to a point where I can participate in these. Fricking hell, the whole point of this game is to be able to go at your own pace but now they're giving endgame content a limited-time window for a really sweet prize.
As for spending my rubies, I'm mostly interested in A2 & 2B, Frederica & Roland (so glad my boy Serenoa is free), Richard, Eltrix, Elrica in the far, far future and Summer Fiore and Sophia (my two favourite launch characters). Oh, ,and Olberic's my fave OG Octodude, but he's thankfully permanent.
I also desperately need a 5* that is good at doing dark damage, as Fiore is still the only 5* I have that can do it, and a one hit nuke sucks for breaking dark weak bosses.

), been farming some spears off my first BT NPC for the past couple days and also getting adamantine armor/headgear. The only arena champion I've beaten is Tikilen, my team is pretty stacked for that and I could easily farm her but right now I'm working on getting more gear to take on other arena champs.
Yeah, I'm reallllly hoping I can get Primrose to spook me. She, Stead and Millard are the only 5 stars in the permanent pool I'm missing.
You’ll want to get your main team at least around 80 before you take on the arenas.
Make sure you do your Daily Dose to bring your team up:

>Daily/Weekly tasks at Nameless Town for fragments and rubies
>Three Hunts Normal/Expert/Otherworld for Guidestones
>Watch the six ads for items & caits
>Defeat the Sable Dragon (250,000 exp)
>L80 Veterans Zaire Historic Fragments (and maybe Battle Tested Weapons)
Over a course of many days you’ll eventually get people to level 100. Not an easy feat.
If you’re extra-disciplined, you can get 300 paid rubies and do a daily pull for 10 rubies a day. Do it 30 for a guaranteed Veteran’s Stone which’ll give you a 5-Star traveler
Thanks, been doing all that except the dragon and the BT NPCs. I wish we had another 10 party slots, as swapping teams around to try and do the BT NPCs daily sounds like a real pain. I have one slot for my main team, another three for each of the three types of hunts, an exp team I use for the daily ads, I still have my Tikilen team set up on one slot for farming her, then I have the team that's currently being used for BT farming (spear atm) and another team for optimizing armor grind.
If you get a strong enough team, say in the 90’s, you’ll be able to tackle all 8 of the L80 Veterans with a single team.
One more challenge for the daily grind, the L100 Adventurer. If you can take her out on a daily basis, you’ll be able to get 3000 Heroite Fragments a day. Still waiting for my A-Team to hit 95 before attempting that.

Whoa. I have some characters in the 90s, what would that team look like? I've started on tome guy and found him crazy easy to quickly clear, which is nice. No tome drops yet though.

Unfortunately I don't have A1 for Viola or H'aanit nor do I have the Elvis accessory (he's A1 so that won't be for months unless I can beat the Adventurer) so I'm pretty confident the 15 turn dream is dead for me. With how much I still have to catch up, I'm not even sure I'll have a submission ready given the window for this "event" is so bloody short.
Damn, that's some wild RNG. I sort of know the feeling, I got two useless dancer gold seals while trying to get one axe seal for my Lumis. Then just days after I got it, I pulled 4.5* Theo so I still need one. Good luck on your hunts!
Oh and as for dark damage, Primrose is your best bet for that. She can hit 3 times, lower dark resistance and elemental defense.
Ninalina would be another contender when she comes out. Not sure how Gertrude fares as a dark-attacker. She seems more adept with her axe.
After lots of tries, I finally got the <15 turns clear. The RNG wasn't fun, but it's nice to see I can get the highest tier of reward on an event made for whales despite not having spent a single cent on this game.
That is a stacked team anon, congrats. I'd have to shave off another 3 turns off my clear to reach the 15 turn threshold and I value my sanity too much to even attempt that.

Actually wait. Gertrude's weaknesses look pretty good for me. I have Scarecrow, H'aanit and Z'aanta for bows. Therion, Viola and Heathcote for daggers. Cyrus, Lynette for fire, and technically Viola and Therion too, though they're better off with daggers I imagine. Maybe I could actually try this out, once I get my hands on some more weapons. Gonna try and get a tome for Cyrus today.

My chink phone has an in-built screen recorder so I just use that. I've seen some people only record the winning turn, but I recorded the entire fight just to be safe.
Neat, I looked it up and it seems like my phone has that feature so I don't need to mess around with a third party app. I'll leave figuring out how to tweet it til later, first I need to beat the fight of course.
Any specific advice for a 15 turns or less clear? Should I go pick up Ri'tu or is someone like H'aanit or Scarecrow (I have the latter at A3) just as good or better? And should I sub Lumis or Agnes for Alphyn?

They could probably still work, but I think Ri'tu would still do the most damage due to her 290 nuke and 20% dagger damage up when at full HP. The BP penalty isn't really that big of a deal here and her RNG hitcount is canceled out by Gertrude's gimmick of only being able to lose 1 shield per unit (that's Gertrude's gimmick btw)
I think Alfyn is mandatory here for his Pomegranate Panacea, it's ridiculously good. I saw someone that doesn't use him, but he cut it really close at exactly 15 turns.
As for advice...I guess take your time setting up early in the fight. Try to play it out until the first break to see if you have enough DPS to skip Gertrude increasing her shield from 9 to 12, apparently knocking her down to 50% HP or below makes her skip that. If you can do that, you're on pace and the rest of the fight is just a race to break her one more time and praying she doesn't kill anyone important. She can heal up with one of her attacks, so things can get south fast if you don't hurry.

Next character: Kersjes - a hunter who focuses on debuffing bow resistance and solo hard hits. As with Molu and Harley, he'll have the 150/300/150/300/300 step-up and a Blessed Guidance seal. (And of course the most important thing: he's voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda!)
Addendum to the above: it looks like one of his JP passive skills (20% damage up at 0 BP) has been changed to be the simpler "unconditional 15% bow damage up and critical up." Otherwise, a quick glance suggests his kit is unchanged (though it's possible I've missed something since I'm just looking at skill names at the moment.)

Well that went surprisingly smoothly once I got past the first few turns. The amount of randomness in this fight still sucks though.

I'm fortunate enough to have Viola, Lynette and H'aanit all at A1 and to have been able to clear the Adventurer for long enough for that Elvis A4 accessory which gave me just barely enough damage to squeeze out a victory here. Without all of that, I don't think this would have been realistic without Alfyn.
How strong are the Nier collab units? And how feasible is it to get them as a f2p? Only sitting at 520gems as of now
A2 is a thief with some pretty insane single target dagger, sword and axe damage output with a berserk mechanic that damages her for 40% of her max HP every turn for 6 turns in exchange for boosting all her offensive stats (including a 15% damage up bonus) allowing her to double cast all her skills while it's active. She's absolutely insane for any speed clears of content with a relevant weakness.
2B is a solid warrior, but nothing too crazy. She's kind of like Adelle in that she's got a 30% crit damage up with her big sword and axe nukes both guaranteeing a critical at max boost. Apart from that, her main assets are a team wide defense buff and a 2x aoe dark attack with a defense down attached.
9S is an ok supportive merchant with a mix of healing, buffs, debuffs and a 4x random spear attack, but he was guaranteed on the first free 10 pull JP got with the collab.
As for how feasible they are to get, we can only really guess what the pity will be so who knows?

From what I understand, Yunnie is the opposite of Gertrude. Where Gertrude fights alone, Yunnie is constantly summoning allies to fight with her. Yunnie also tends to bombard you with status effects.
What's she weak to? And if she has that many minions, what are they weak to?

I'm an extreme slowpoke, the slowest day 1 player. Don't worry, you'll probably catch up and pass me soon enough. It's all permanent content, so as long as you don't let the FOMO of arena cups get to you, you'll be fine at your own pace.
A thing to note about Yunnie too is that unlike other arena champions, her adds also automatically die at the end of the turn.
So should I be crafting Admantite weapons for all my Phys and wait for Atlas for all my elemental characters? What about armor I am woefully behind on that part. Not sure if there is any real difference between the armors like the weapons beyond the usual focus on Ele or Phys defense and the balanced variant

I'd like to know this too. I've given up on trying to beat Gertrude in time for the challenge ending in six days, but maybe if I can get info on the next champ, that'll be the first time I'm ready for one on release.
I am asking this again but is there any trick to surviving gertrude's double hit attack?
I don't think she has a double hit attack. She's got a three-hit random target and a bunch of single target hits, but she does gain more actions as the fight progresses. Pretty much the only thing you can do is keep her debuffed, your own party buffed and hope she doesn't target any single character too many times. The fight is an absolute RNG shitfest for all but the biggest of whales, but you can make it at least semi consistent with good buff/debuff management and smart use of row swapping. If you're feeling unsure of whether you can survive and your healthy back liners' turns are sandwiched between two of her actions, swapping them in can really help your odds of surviving.
Glossom is a fantastic support for this fight as he can singlehandedly cap your physical attackers' offense and your entire party's defense.

Swap Sigrid and Scarecrow. Give Cyrus some HP. Find yourself a buffer/debuffer. If you have Sophia or Varkyn, they will help a lot.
Black Dragon locks Axe/Bow weakness on Turn 1, but can lock any other set of 2 after each break. Your Row 2 and Row 4 are in trouble of stalling if either Sword or Bow locks down, so you should spread out your weakness coverage like you are with Theo/Aslyte and Lumis/Cyrus. For example, pairing Edea with a Bow or Axe unit would guarantee that row would be able to hit weakness no matter what Black Dragon locks.
You also lack some support. A debuffer like Viola/Kurtz or a buffer like Hasumi/Meena/Mabel would help with survival. Black Dragon also has a charge attack that does 4-hit random target physical damage. Either you need to debuff and pray he doesn't double up on one unit or use a taunt Merchant like Tressa/Gilderoy/Devin to keep your column alive.
picrel isn't optimal (It's an EXP soaking team) but it should give a general idea of how to split up your units. Tressa has Hasumi behind her so that she can spend a while in the front drawing attacks while the other rows focus on attacking. Cyrus/H'aanit can multi-hit 2 weaknesses while covering a total of 3. Sigrid/Millard hits 2 weaknesses with extra healing/MagDef utility if Sword/Light is locked (which did happen this run). Heath/Lianna has healing/buffing utility and can unconditionally break for 3. All of these rows can do something during any given turn.

Agnes or any regen caster would be the best healer for this fight. Dragon's wind AOE and some physical attacks will stagger your units and cause you to lose actions. Regen works anyways. Agnes is also a good pick for Light magic access.
I'd like to reiterate that the first team I posted is sub-optimal. Hasumi and Millard do frick-all for most of the fight, Sigrid spams 4-attack while Trifold Slashing in between, and I only pulled out Heathcote to shield crack when Lianna was either in dangerous health or low on SP from spamming 3-hit Ice or heals. Seriously, Heathcote was on full BP for most of the fight.
On a seriously prepared attempt, I'd use something more like picrel. Obviously not everyone has Odette and Lianna (A unit I consider severely underappreciated) so I'd recommend seeing those slots as a breaker/DPS slot and a buffer/debuffer slot. Viola can pull-double duty as a debuffer and shield crack, but Kurtz can substitute that and Lianna could be replaced with any healer or defense buffer. Dragon's fire AOE hits for 900-1000 on my squshier units so I would recommend having at least 30% Atk/M.Atk debuffs, 15% Atk debuff & 15% Def/M. Def buffs, or 30% Def/M. Def buffs. Slap on regen and your team should be capable of surviving Black Dragon. Just remember that he changes weakness after every break, but has one turn after break where he's weak to everything. If your team has the HP, this is a great time to dump BP and do a lot of shield damage.

What's the best way to farm exp?
Daily 3 caits to start up, until you finish the master of all arc.
Then you primarily use expert hunts and colosseum. Also look up farming nuts especially the supreme ones.
Do the 3 daily Caits scale up the more I progress? Or are they capped at lv50?
They scale based on your highest level character (in your entire roster, not your current party). You always have a 5% to get the highest tier cait in your level bracket, 45% chance for a mid level one and a 50% chance for a low level one. The highest bracket is at 71 which gives you a 50% chance for a level 50 cait, 45% chance for a level 55 and a 5% for a 60.
This AND you have to progress through the story. I sit on my ass after beating Master of all for weeks and all i got was caits level 30 and 35 despite one of my characters already reached 72.
The moment i stepped into the bestow of fames arc, i got level 60 cait rights away.

She is insanely good as Tytos when she gently giggles while committing atrocities. And she's also pretty damn good as Al when she drops the dish and sneezes. And then turns into monstrous Edea and emits terrifying MRGRGR!!~... Ferocious.
It's amazing and makes me wish I had enough time in both my lifespan and the game's to try out every single possible combination of characters. Fiore had me busting a gut as Herminia in the Master of Wealth one, and Cyrus made a damn fine Taviani.

The banner is kind of shitty if you're gunning for only 1 or 2 specific characters. Unless you can go for pity, there's a good chance you'll walk away disappointed.
I want to collect the og team and it's 1100 per step this time so I can probably get to the pity. My only apprehension is about nier collab happening before I can gather enough rubies again
If you're close to 4k, I would say save. Maybe just do the first step 'cause it's only 100 rubies, that's what I plan on doing. If you can stay strong and get to 6k rubies, you can guarantee both A2 and 2B (3k each assuming normal collab step ups). If NieR's important to you, that's the play. I'm only at 1.5k, so I'm sweating big time and will likely have to rely on luck like I did with Bravely Default (pitied Agnes but got Edea in 1.5k).

I have two merchants stuck at 4.5*: Gilderoy (A1) and Cardona. Who should I promote to 5*? The only merchant I've been using is Tressa, who is also my only A4 traveler.
Free pull didn't disappoint.
And one more with my Gertrude race rubies for Ophilia. I've wanted Sofia since day 1 and she was the last of the original 8 I was missing so I can happily keep saving through the rest of the half anniversary now.

On a side note, do you know what makes him that much better than other apotecharies? I've just checked his skills and when compared to Theo the only things I've noticed is that he has a revive and 4x elemental vs 1x from Theo and 4x phys vs 3x from Theo. Which is nice, but doesn't seem that gamebreaking for them to be that far from each other in the tierlist, specially when you consider the skill costs.
Aside from the things you mentioned that are already strict upgrades over Theo, he has two other very powerful tools Theo doesn't: an aoe status heal + immunity (Theo does get this, but only on his ultimate which is more cumbersome, has a limited number of uses and has a shorter duration) and his aoe BP boost which not only makes him the king of arena farming, but also helps squeeze out that little bit of extra damage on difficult fights. Theo's kit is adequate for what he does, Alfyn's is absolutely stacked.

Thousands of rubies are a big deal in this game, and I see some apps on this list have "up to" 4500+, 1600+, 3800+...it looks kinda tempting as it's adding up to well over a thousand dollars in premium currency, but I have no idea how long it would take to earn these rewards and if it's even feasible within whatever time limit they have on these "limited offers".

Actually got something from a free pull for once: 4.5* Gil (#3) and 4.5* Viola (#2)! I don't know how I've pulled Gilderoy at 4.5* three times when his 5* version is twice as likely to appear, but it is what it is. Viola gets a ton of usage, so it's nice to have her A1 now. I decided to give my trader seal to Cardona, because no one else can do 4-hit ice or 3-hit spear aoe, and those are both locked behind 5*. Glad to see my octobros got some cool stuff, I'm done pullin' because the step up is paid only. Where's the free rubies banner with the six OG travelers?
I have been playing this game for about two weeks. I cleared the first three chapters and saved up enough free rubies to roll the New Year Guidance once, which was really helpful. Should I roll that again or just save up my rubies for something else? There's no way in hell I'm paying for rubies.

The New Year's banner is pretty solid, but I would say once is enough for a new account. Especially now that they added a number of recent characters to the permanent pool after the New Year's banner went up, so the new characters aren't in it. If you were rerolling I'd say go for Ophelia, but it sounds like you're past that point. She'll be permanent and her step up is paid only, so I would just save for now if I were you. Hope the upcoming free pulls give you something good!
And if you're looking for something to save for, I would say wait for a limited "Sacred Blaze" banner to appear, as that will give you a shot at limited characters plus everyone you pull is 4* or higher on those, so they're fantastic for new accounts. There's also the NieR collab if you care about those characters, but we don't have a date for that yet.
So I see there's a limited time feat for reaching the 50th floor of Ultimate Training. The notice about the Tower implies there's limited attempts and your hp/sp don't heal automatically after battle, so it looks like I could frick this up. How far are you guys and how hard does reaching level 50 by Feb 15 seem?

It seems pretty easy so far, I only lost Tressa because I was trying to get a 3* to use his ultimate while she taunted for a mission and then the turn limit came and both died, besides that, no one even took dmg or used sp so far. Unless it gets waaaay harder at the top floors and you start using multiple tries with multiple deads for a single floor, it seems pretty doable depending on how often we get more tries.
Cool. Was thinking Lynette would be the first ultimate I level up since I have a spare stone for her, but maybe I should do a 3* for the mission of getting one to level 10.

Ate 3 of my attempts, but I did it. I brought two level 1 hunters (Bertrand and Guti) with no weapon equipped along with Scarecrow and Camilla to mop up once they broke their enemies. The issue is if the first hit kills an enemy, even if you multi-hit them for a break, the game already sees them as "dead" so the subsequent hits don't take off shield points. The reason this was fine on the floors below floor 5 was because the enemies there didn't have multiple shield points.

And nevermind again. Viewing the initial tower cutscene again in memoirs gives you enough tickets for 20 more attempts, plus some full hp/sp restores.
So, are ultimates broken in global or am I missing something here? As I understand it, they're supposed to be in their own buff category but when I use Lynette's ultimate, I only see the generic buff icons. In addition, if I've applied her attack buff the turn before, it's like the buff just gets eaten up. It doesn't extend the duration of the attack buffs but it does apply a (generic) speed buff as normal. I haven't seen anyone mention this anywhere so am I just stupid or has no one else noticed this yet? Pic related, my buffs after using a max boosted buff on turn 1 and Lynette's ultimate on turn 2. No other buffs used so there shouldn't be a generic speed buff on anyone and if the buffs from ultimates are treated as generic I should have more duration on my other buffs.
In JP, ultimate buffs have a red outline around the icon, this was added later. I think it's just a cosmetic issue.
So if I have a generic buff I can't actually check the duration of any ultimate buffs for the same stat? Seems like a very strange design decision. Thanks anon.

It always bugged me how this game is billed as a prequel, but they don't just flat out state how long before the first Octopath it takes place. Thanks to a line in the latest chapter, it looks like it's three years before OT. Well, currently two years because of the one year time skip after Master of All.

At the beginning, it’s about 3 years before the start of The original Octopath game.
A year passes some time between the end of Master of Wealth and the beginning of Bestower of Wealth.
And as of Bestower of Fame it’s stated that it’s two years before Ophelia’s Kindling takes place.

I totally agree. The connection is flimsy at best. This certainly isn't a bad game and I'm having a lot of fun with the story (August's is by far my favorite thus far), but the whole prequel angle is just silly to me.

Unfortunately, there’s no Step-Up for her banner which means no guaranteed 5-Star.

How goes the tower climb, bros? I just cleared floor 25, I'm thinking of using some more tickets to push to 30 before our first free recovery. The EX floors look quite interesting, but I must say I'm not a fan of the normal floors making me dick around keeping the enemies alive to break them or get off ultimates while working under a turn limit.
I hate annoying objectives like that. I guess it would feel way more organic if you had started out the same time as the towers released. I am honestly considering just plowing trough them paying no heed to the objectives and maybe just coming back for them later
Essentially I plowed through them all the way to floor 50 and used the tickets I could to get there.
Got Feintz’ Sword for the trouble. You can upgrade Feintz’ Belived Sword by completing the 50 EX missions.

I agree, going through the floors is tedious because of the inability to figure out what the jump in difficulty will be like. Will unarmed 3* be enough or is it already better to switch to 4*? It would be even worse if this game retained the mechanics of the original and the opponent's current health percentage could only be vaguely identified by the color of their name.
Most of the floors were quite comfortable to pass with a party of:
Peredir - 3* or 4* breaker;
Tressa - any character finishing a floor in one turn.
Tressa will taunt if there is a chance the breaker will die and will grant BP if the breaker doesn't have enough multi-hitting options.
Everyone have SP scarves and a skip turn button. This way there is no need to worry about anything.
Don’t forget. The Tower of Trials has a Grand Total of 100 Floors. More floors will be added later. As well as more Ultimates!

There will be four types of towers.
>The Tower of Trials
Ascend the tower and complete missions to gain Wisdom Orbs to increase the power of a traveler’s Ultimate.
>The Veteran Tower
Take on Veterans (sometimes two or even three at once) and earn Historical Fragments.
>The Job Towers
Special towers that only people of a certain job can enter. For instance the Warrior Tower only allows warriors to participate. You can win special accessories for The job, Golden Cookies for Class Ups and even Awakening Stones for Arena Champions.
The Scholar Tower will only give you Varkyn’s Awakening Stone. You’ll have to acquire Hammy’s Awakening stone in a much different...much HARDER way[spoiler]

I've got my eye on that limited time mission to get someone's ultimate to level 10 because 30 gold wisdom orbs is a pretty big deal. Has anyone here done that yet? I'm wondering if maxing a 3* ultimate is cheaper than a 5 star's, as I was hoping to max Lynette's 'cause I have an awakening stone for her but I could only get it to level 4.

Her Call Linde skill's been bugged so that it can't crit since she was released. Every time the bug list gets updated in the ingame notice, you can scroll down and see it.
It's not a big deal and doesn't stop her from doing anything, but she's a fave of mine so I wish they'd at least try to fix her.

Ever since pulling three 4.5* Theos in the first few weeks I knew he'd end up being my first A4 (aside from Elvis) and now it happened. He was my 5* from the guaranteed Christmas seal. I hope he leaves me alone now. He's been very helpful, but I already pulled Alfyn on the last free pull so he'll mostly be benched at this point.

You are no slowpoke, I am day 1 and my highest lvled char is scarecrow (95) too. I stopped feeding him the quest exp after increasing the cap, so maybe that has something to do with it

Atlas weapons are the best in the game for everyone for all battles outside of the arena. This is because of grade bonus. See the grade under a weapon's name with little blue pips filling up a bar? Well, each of those pips equals roughly 40 more points of hidden attack and elemental attack. So to compare an Atlas Sword with an Adamantine Sword, the Atlas Sword has 436 attack while the old Adamantine one has 463. So at a glance it looks like Atlas has 27 less attack, right? But the Atlas Sword has a grade of 4.3, while the Adamantine Sword has a grade of 4.2. That 0.1 grade difference means the Atlas Sword actually has effectively 13 more points of attack than the Adamantine Sword and of course it has much more elemental attack.
Please note that grade bonuses are disabled during fights in the arena, so Adamantine weapons will be better for your physical attackers there. Though the difference isn't huge, so depending on how much you want to grind, it might not be worth it to craft separate Adamantine weapons just for arena.

Unfortunately, they haven't added the Flatlands enemies for Bonfires of Battle II yet, so the enemies outside of Atlasdam aren't in the tower, but if you go to the Frostlands bonfire you'll find the new elites from the Cave of Origin and new areas around Flamesgrace.

Word of advice. You’ll want to use a specialized team for each of the L100 Veterans. I can usually ride out the storm with a well-balanced team, the problem is that you’ve got 15 turns to defeat the Veteran, otherwise he/she’ll use Fury of the Strong and wipe out your team in a stream of Endless Nine. Every hit you deal must break their shield points!
This is the team I used to take care of the Old Storyteller by the way
8 wisdom nuts a day is not enough. We need way more ways to get wisdom frags if we want to clear out the weekly gold wisdom orbs, which I assume are our only source of wisdom orbs once we clear all missions in the tower.

Good info, thanks! And now it makes sense why each floor was still giving me ultimate seeds after I maxed out the garden. Just managed to finish all the EX stages for floor 10, tomorrow's reset should give me enough attempts to do the floor 20 and 30 EX stages.
I also just finished beating all three of the level 90 rematches with the Masters of Wealth/Power/Fame. I noticed if you challenge them again, you can get fortune boxes that say they have random accessories. Can you get additional copies of the accessory that drops the first time you beat them this way? Because Auguste dropped a +20% exp accessory as his first clear reward, and if I could farm more of those, I could put +40% exp on my whole exp grinding team, which would be nice. He was a real pain in the ass with his swapping weaknesses though.
Nope. The first time you beat Advanced Auguste, you’ll get an accessory that gives you 20% exp up.
But subsequent bearings will give you access to three accessories.
1. 1% Dagger damage up + 3% Exp up
2. 3% Dagger damage up + 5% Exp up
3. 10% Dagger damage up + 20% Exp up.
Obviously the Tier 3 accessory is better and very rare. So if you’re not able to get it, you can use your Shards of Greed to exchange it.
Also take note, with Tytos you’ll get accessories which increases your Sword power and grants a chance for a Second Serve.
With Herminia, you’ll get accessories that increase your Bow power and grant more leaves at the end of the battle.

Finally cleared floor 50 of tower and it let me do this after I finished EX1 of floor 10. Been hanging onto this awakening stone for months just for this occasion. What's a good ultimate to max after Lynette's? Was thinking maybe Fiore 'cause I use it a lot to nuke bosses for the "finish with an ultimate" challenges, plus she's my starter and a fave.
Clearing that EX stage also gave me 2 traveler's seals and one was actually a 5 star! Might be my first 5 star off a seal since launch. It was my fourth Gilderoy, and the first time I've pulled him at 5 stars so he's FINALLY classed up! Now I'm wondering who's the better tank, my A4 Tressa or my newly A3 Gil.

Slowest of pokes here, I finally faced Glossom! The fight took forever, losing grade bonus really nerfs my damage to the ground. I don't think I can farm this until I get some dark damage 5 stars like Prim, whose absence constantly taunts me like in the Power only EX floors where I need to time things perfectly to kill the boss with a 3*'s ultimate. Nice that Glossom's Power though; I just wish he had an ultimate.
Setting my sights on the dragon next, as I think it came out between Glossom and Varkyn iirc.

It's good, but never pull just for it. If you are pulling on the banner for a character you want and you get them just 1 or 2 ten pulls before you'd have a hundred frags, then it's worth a pull or two for the accessory. But it should be a secondary goal at most.
Only if you have Odette. It’s a good way to bolster her while saving rubies for another day. The accessory requires 3000 rubies, a spark requires 6000 rubies.
Basically it’s a 2% to get a Sacred Blaze traveler and a 2% chance to get the other 5-Stars. What the frick indeed.
Her claim to fame is that she hits hard with Spear and Fire. And her powerful spear attacks deal recoil damage. That and she can boost the spear damage of your other teammates. Then again she was supposed to be the first Sacred Blaze traveler so make of that what you will.
To answer your other question, Odette, Lianna and Dorothea are special travelers who are part of the Sacred Blaze Guidance. So any time you see a new character that’s from a Sacred Blaze Guidance, you’ll get your chance to get Lianna again... (and I’ll have my chance to score Odette).
By the way, there are six Sacred Blaze travelers so far:
Odette the Scholar
Liana the Cleric
Dorothea the Merchant
Titi the Dancer
Zegna the Apothecary
Leon the Merchant
I expect a Sacred Blaze to pop up every three months.

No Step-Ups mean no guaranteed five-stars. And you’ll be needing to get plenty of five-stars in your party. Especially when it comes to making specialized teams.
I’d say save 6000 for a Sacred Blaze spark if you can. 3000 for a Sacred Blaze Accessory if you can’t.

Boy am I glad I read the entirety of the Dorothea notice even though I'm not pulling. There's a little footnote that mentions Odette and Lianna's ultimates have been added! This completely solves my EX floor issue of not having any Power characters with an ultimate that actually deals damage to finish off the boss for the mission.

Now I'm also missing Alfyn, Mulrusso, Nicola and Harley. Plus Lianna and Adelle, who're limited. And as for perms who aren't in the pool yet, I'm missing Mooloo, the hunter voiced by Tsudaken, Olberic and Ophelia.
Dragon status: slain! Man, what a difference between when I had to flee with my tail between my legs the night this monster got released and now, easily killing the thing. I can definitely grind this every day no problem and carry a few characters that need exp.
My next big goal is beating Varkyn. I hear he's the toughest arena champ so far besides Gertrude. Any tips/team advice?

Major thing you want to do is to kill off ONE of Varkyn’s accomplices first. From there, you’ll need to juggle between getting Varkyn to half HP and killing the other accomplice.
If You kill both his dudes, OR his HP gets too low, he’ll summon his living soul stone. From there things get more...difficult. You want to make sure you time it so that you can kill the second dude and Break Varkyn in a single turn so that you can get as much damage as you possibly can.
The Living Soul Stone has the same weaknesses as Varkyn, but hitting them will result in a nasty counter attack. Though you may want to hit them just to expose them anyways.
While the Soul Stone has weaknesses, it does not have shield points so you can’t Break it. You also cannot kill it so don’t try. Don’t worry though, it will die when you get rid of Varkyn.
The thing that makes the Soul Stone a REAL nuisance is it’s ability to attack your SP. This basically turns your battle into a race against time. Dawdle for too long and you’ll be out of SP before you know it.
Hit hard, hit fast, and time your Breaks. Good luck!

Ri'tu down on the first try, she really was as easy as everyone says she is. Viola died on turn 3 because I was dumb and unlucky. I brought her out to atk debuff Ri'tu and kept her in one more turn to def debuff one of the adds I broke to help nuke him down, but Ri'tu did her random hit big move and struck Viola and only Viola with 4 hits, killing her from max hp.
And yet, I was able to do the rest of the fight without her and her debuffs with ease. I think I even skipped one of Ri'tu's thresholds, because around half hp she went into her first follow-up stance, then I broke her, then I killed her before she got another turn.
Now all that's left is Gertrude. Unfortunately, I don't have Alfyn and my Glossom and Ri'tu are underleveled. My 5 stars are listed here
Anybody have team advice or tips on Gertrude's gimmick(s)? I really wanna get her, she's one of the characters that interests me the most.
Gertrude fights solo. That’s one gimmick. But her other major gimmick is her Shield Guard. This basically makes it so that any attack which hits her weakness only breaks 1 Shield Point. Meaning you’ll only be able to break 4 shield points per turn.
She was tough...But I had fun taking her on. Gotta pray to the RNG gods, for Gertrude can land a powerful blow on you if you’re not careful.
Would Ri'tu's passive where every time she does a normal attack, she follows up with another attack (like the Second Serving passive from Pursuer's Gloves) take off 2 shield points from Gertrude? Because it's not a multi-hit move like triple edge, it's two separate attacks.
Nope, it still only docks one shield point.

What level is your party average? Been trying to take her on but I keep loosing key units to bad RNG
This is the team I used, so my level range was all in the 90s. Atlas IV weapons on everyone except the bravely fan on Lynette to extend buffs and an Adamantine IV dagger on Viola, though Viola doesn't matter because she died right out the gate so I essentially did this with a party of 7.
Atlas Helms and Atlas Armor on everyone because you want to max your physical defense.
The other guy listed great options to use instead of Lumis and Agnes for wind. Agnes is mostly there for healing so anyone with a front heal heal like Millard or a front row regen like Theo could replace her. Lumis can be swapped by literally anyone who uses wind; all she did was use her 3 hit single target wind spell.

Not who you're replying to but I did it with units at ~lvl 82-85. I think I had Odette and Tikilen which helped. Although now I've moved on to Gertrude and have been struggling even with most units at lvl 88 minimum.

Ri'tu is the easiest because she doesn't do much AND wind units are plentiful.
Hardest is probably Gertrude because no matter how stacked your roster is you're subject to the same RNG.
The rest depends on your roster.

Yup! In fact, that's the best time to use that move, as you're guaranteed to act before an enemy in break. He's a key component of my Auguste farming team.
The overwhelmingly negative response from global players seems to be it's a disgusting scam. When it first came out, I selected "Reach level 20 in Family Island" for 312 rubies because it sounded like a decent return for a short amount of time. A free 10 pull for clearing the first 20 levels in a casual game? Sure, it'd get me far more rubies than 15 minutes spent in Octopath.
But just in case, I decided to google the game and see how much time that would actually take. The first result was this, someone asking about this same task from a different game's offerwall:

If the offerwall had offers for games I'm already playing, then it would actually be worth it, but a quick glance over the offers shows it only has offers for the most desperate of low effort cash grab scam mobage.

Any advice regarding getting through the Master of All storyline at a reasonable pace? Like, about 1 chapter per day?
Master of All is the one you want to blitz through as fast as possible 'cause it unlocks other stuff, like hunts which are the most important dailies.
Are we talking "skip cutscene" fast? Because I unlocked the hunts before officially starting chapter 1 of Master of All.
And, having just taken a bit over an hour to clear chapter 1, I think I'm going to need some time to gear up and level an appropriate team, because 2 of the 8 in my main party were downed by the boss even though everyone was in the low 40s.
The story/characters is the main draw of this game and for some stupid reasons most cutscenes can't be replayed, so even if it takes more time I wouldn't skip them. If you have access to hunts already then I wouldn't break my neck running to the end, just try to get through as fast as you reasonably can. You'll find better gear as you can and can get more from NPC interactions in new towns; I didn't sit down and dedicate myself to grinding gear until the level 60 gear in the last chapter of MoA, Ch8.
The thing is, I'm not finding any armor in the level 30 or above ranges, and I'm afraid I'll bankrupt myself trying to buy an on-level set for my entire 8-man team, in addition to doing the daily hunts and weekly tower grinds. I'd be less stressed out about this if the game both stopped my progression at the points where I was undergeared and directed me to where I could obtain the mandatory gear to clear the boss fights, because all the guides I see online are for farming the endgame gear.
If the gear you aren't finding in treasure chests or winning from NPCs aren't enough, and they probably should be, go to the latest town you've unlocked. The surrounding enemies will drop the mats to forge the latest gear for you. If you're trying to forge something in particular, the blacksmith will show you exactly which mats you'll need and you can use this website to search for that mat and find out which enemies drop it:

She does follow-up attacks when she gets low, and even more follow-up attacks when she gets lower. That's pretty much it, you can actually just blow her up before you even get to that point.

I just found out that i can trade these shards for additional BT weapons, in addition i can trade off the silver seals for more shards since I already maxed out all 4 stars characters. Do you advice going all in BT crafting -since the drop rate is pure shit-? Or should i save up for future content that I’m not aware of?

Going by the clears on youtube, yes
2 of her best skills (3 hit spear aoe and 4 hit random ice) are locked behind 5 star so yeah, if you have a merchant seal it's well spent on Cardona. I don't think anyone else right now has that many hits on spear aoe or ice. Eliza is mostly used as a passive buffbot sitting behind a good scholar to boost their magic damage so she is bottom priority for warrior seals. Lionel's a better use for it if you're choosing between the two but he's still not a big deal. He's mostly useful for sword/ice breaking as global have him a three hit move for each of those elements, very nice for Varkyn.
I vaguely recall someone here warning not to spend historic fragments on BT weapons from that exchange because something important gets added to it later...awakening 4 items for the lower rarity characters I think? You definitely want enough BT weapons to outfit your entire team with Atlas IV weapons, so grind 'em out if you have the time or buy 'em if you can't be bothered. Global is very different from JP in that every month we get a new tier of weapons that outclass the previous month's, but they'll all need BT weapons to reach their max potential.

That mission was miserable, took me way too many tries to finish Auguste of with Primrose's ultimate. At least now we've got Odette as well so there are a few more options, but it's still absolute horse shit that they didn't give the 4*s their ultimate (and are still holding out on the missing 4*s for absolutely no sensible reason)

I honestly think COTC has what it takes to be a really great and popular game if they just managed it proper. It's by far the Gacha with the most actual *Game* in it compared to it's competitors. It's not every day that you get so much Content up front with np time-gates to hamper you. Just adding something like a monthly Gem pass like almost any other Gacha would certainly make them more money than they are now
The only deal in this game that feels fair to me is the daily 10-Paid gem pull since you hit pity and can Guarantee a 4.5 or 5* traveler at 30-pulls. But it is limited to one each day, So that's still a whole month
I also think something like a free pull every day would go a long way to make the general user happier, and may even entice people to actually spend once In a while out of good-will that they sadly pissed away

nta but Octopath (global) seems to be the next lowest earner for SE other than SaGa (global) of course, which is kept alive regardless of how much money it makes for reasons discussed previously, so we do seem to be beside the chopping block but not on it as profits haven't quite sunk to the point where most get the axe.
As I've said before when people have been wondering if this game is gonna last, the key date to keep in mind is the one year anniversary. After a year's passed is when various contracts get renewed, so you'll often see gacha games that perform very poorly die after a year when it's decided they're not profitable enough to renew for another year. That's why Echoes of Mana is dying in the same month it debuted last year, and why the JP only World of Final Fantasy mobage was killed a year after it launched, and the Star Ocean one died with its anniversary, and so on and so forth.
If Octopath doesn't shut down in six months from now, it may have a bit of a future after all.

Just won my first Arena fight lads! And I am glad to Have Tikilen on my team now as I prepare for Rit'u! But I was wondering how farming Shards for Tiki works? Do I farm the repeatable fight in Memoirs? And is it Harder/Easier than the normal fight?

As for the repeatable version of the arena fights, I haven't done them yet as I'm just concerned with beating all the champs first, but my understanding is you do the fight in Memoirs, it's exactly the same as the original fight and you get shards for the champ-specific exchange to acquire their exclusive accessories (often very very good for that champ) and their guidestones.
It's not exclusive to this game as I've seen that notice appear a couple days ago in at least one other SE gacha I play. I doubt they make most of their money from Uzbekistan and Nigeria, but it's gotta suck for UKbros.

To think about it, Adelua (announcer girl) will probably be one of the champions. She does have a fighting stance, a huge amount of voice acting, and that upset "don't underestimate champion fans" line when she tells you about Hammy. Strange that I didn't think of this before. And she'll be absolutely the strongest, no less.
I heard Yunnie was supposed to be easier than Gertrude, but the fight felt pretty brutal to me. Maybe with a more optimal setup I could squeeze out enough damage to kill her before she summons her third set of allies, but I think I'll leave farming this one for later.
I feel like their damage output is quite something compared to the other fights I have tried.
I also think that the people saying it's easier and this goes for all the fight are the loaded JP whales that have every single fricking unit imaginable so they always have the perfect setup
10 attempts, 10 floors. This tower is easier so far. Peeking at the top floors though, you fight three of them at once, so that could be a pain.

Damn, well done. My 4 stars aren't very well invested at all, I only use 5 stars, so unless I can clear this latest and hardest arena fight with only four characters, this is a no go for me. And just like with Gertrude, it feels like I'm the only one without Alfyn.

Depends on your needs and the 5* characters you will be using.
But if we consider the characters as independent, then Shelby is the best and Sigrid is just one step behind her. Shelby: excellent at breaking shields, has insane survivability (20% fire resistance, gigantic physical defense like any apothecary, strong and undemanding 3* passive regen), and a very convenient 1* passive that increases the ailment resistance of a front row ally and she also can cure paralysis. She's perfect for this fight.
Warriors just got their Ultimates, so it makes sense to put them to good use. In this case, it's all about positioning.
>Trish and Sigrid are good at breaking shields, so it makes sense to pair them with characters that can't deal multiple hits.
>Tahir sucks, but he can be put together with any strong warrior without 30% sword damage up passive: Lionel, Edea, Eliza, Kouren.

Other apothecaries besides Shelby:

4* dancers are almost useless, the only dancer relying on physical damage - Iris - is in 3rd place in terms of usefulness among the other 4* dancers. She doesn't deal much damage, she doesn't have really good buffs, and hitting 3 random targets in a battle against at least 2 opponents doesn't do her a favor. Meena is first if you're short of a support character and Mabel is second, even though she's for magic parties.

To answer your question, no you can’t use a different save file. Each account only has one save file to it. However, the game is nice enough to let you finish up a storyline (and leave the town afterward) before it gives you the time up.

I’m pretty sure that if you start a new file you can overwrite your old save and do a new game that way.
It’s still 3 hours though, you only get one file per account and you can only transfer your demo file once the theee hours are up.
Which accessory is better, Odette's or Lianna's? Lianna's SP recovery seems useful but on the other hand she already recovers SP when taking damage.
Either way I'm glad to have at least something to show for spending 3,000 rubies besides Hasumi and a Lynette stone
Odette and Lianna's acccessories are both good, but Lianna's is FAR more useful. It doesn't regen SP, it cuts SP COST by 20%. Lianna's Heal+MagAtk&MagDef costs 82 SP, even at lvl 88. With the accessory, it's a much more managable 66. Lianna's 3-hit Ice AoE also goes from 72 to the 58 or so. It allows Lianna to stay in the front row buffing and debuffing without having to take a 2-turn breather to recover SP. Odette has absolutely no SP woes, so that 10 SP regen isn't a gamechanger when she can already spam 38 SP 3-hit spells with an SP pool bigger than 500.
Argh, I hate "last hit with an ultimate" missions! Wasted 4 of my 10 weekly attempts and my free full heal on floor 6 of the Veteran's Tower when that damn staff/dark weak BT axe NPC showed up. I have no ultimates for staff or dark. First time, I didn't even notice the floor had an extra mission, so I went back in. Second time, I went full moron and thought I had tapped Fiore's ultimate, only for her to do a regular attack. That's on me, but still quite frustrating. Third time, I had him in position for the kill but Fiore's ultimate left him with a single pixel of hp, then Wingate did a weak tap that killed him. Finally got it on the fourth try, but yeesh.
At least I got a thief sacred seal to cheer me up. The only thief I'm missing is Nicola, so I guess I'm holding onto this in case I get A2 at 4.5 stars.

I have been fighting the BT staff granny daily for weeks upon weeks now and the only BT staff I have is the one she guaranteed drop the first time I beat her. This is insane. I only have one 5* cleric so it's fine for now, but still, I'd like to collect the other staves too.
You can farm her repeatedly if you feel like it. Just contend to recruit her, dismiss her immediately and challenge her again.
Oh yeah, I know. I've yet to sit down and dedicated farm BT staves 'cause I only have the one cleric, but it's silly that just by doing my daily clears of all 8 NPCs, I've gotten a number of BT weapons from all of them except her. Granny's holdin' out!
Same. He's a big enough name that it's guaranteed they'll turn him into a playable character eventually. Thanks to the "Memories" characters, it doesn't even matter if he dies or becomes a villain in the story, he'll still be on the table.

Alright I'll just come out and say it. But everyone saying that Rit'u is the easiest fight must have either a full 90+ Team or ridiculous rng on their side. The random dps output is just too fricking high in that fight. And If you get fricked by RNG then good luck survivng all the hits on one character. Even my Tressa sitting at 90 can get killed in a single round by shitty rng
Her damage output is pretty pathetic if you hit debuff cap on her attack stat (and even more so if you buff your defense on top of it that) and she's really frail. Wind is also one of the most stacked elements in the game and both Tikilen and Varkyn are good against her, meaning there are both a lot of strong options against her and two of those options are widely accessible.
She also doesn't have a particularly dangerous or annoying gimmick which makes her one of the least demanding arena champions. That said, I'd still say Tikilen is easier simply because the power creep in gear since her release has outpaced her stats pretty significantly compared to when BT weapons were the best option and not all classes even had those. Her gimmick was fairly easy to mitigate with good break timing even back in the day and now it's very feasible to just outmuscle her and ignore the gimmick entirely.
Sounds pretty close to my experience when it comes to Tikilen. Had no problems doing her fight. Most of my team is at about level 80 right now and Primrose is level 100. Bedsides that I have a few at level 90.
But I still struggle staing alive even when I keep her Debuffed using Viola and Noelle.
I see most of my Wind setup is between 70-90 with most of them being somewhere in between so I guess I'll just have to wait for some more experience and some better armor
Oh, and to add to this, a level 90+ team (or A3 characters in their 70s) and the highest tier gear available is just kind of expected for the arena. Any fight is going to be hard as balls if you come in underprepared.

Frick me, the final boss theme is just too good. I still have no idea what happens in the story, but musical spoilers are one thing I can't help myself with. The ring holders medley is so damn good too.

The difficulty of that final boss is making me sweat. I hope there is some sort of catch-up mechanic put in place by the time that boss shows up in the global servers, because I dread having to crunch super hard to get a F2P team at high enough levels and with strong enough equipment to be able to beat the boss without abusing ruby revives.

Just defeated Yunnie. I tell you, she’s REALLY tough without a strategy. But I’ll try to tell you as much as I can.
Yunnie herself has the gimmick of delivering attacks that deal status conditions (Blind, Poison, Paralysis). In addition to bow attacks she also uses fire attacks. The REAL challenge is dealing with her team, Evening Calm.
She’ll start out with a hunter. The hunter will mainly spam group attacks. Here’s not much special. Thing is, if you get Yunnie’s HP low enough, or the Hunter’s HP low enough, the Hunter will Boost. Once he does this he’ll launch a powerful arrow shot...which will result in the Hunter fainting. When this happens Yunnie will immediately summon her next wave, the Thief and the Merchant.
To make this battle as easy as possible you want to BREAK the Hunter the moment he boosts so that he doesn’t suicide.
You’ll basically need to juggle between damaging Yunnie and breaking the Hunter. If you come to a point where you won’t be able to break the Hunter, focus on breaking Yunnie before the Hunter suicides, so that Yunnie doesn’t summon her next wave.
So if you break her minion, they will try to boost again when they're unbroken and if you can keep breaking them, she can't spawn more? That's really good advice, thanks!
As long as the Hunter is alive, Yunnie can’t summon the Thief and the Merchant.
As long as the Thief and Merchant is alive Yunnie can’t summon the Warrior and the Apothecary.
If Yunnie is taken out before the Hunter, the Thief and the Merchant won’t be summoned after the Hunter uses his kamikaze attack.
Yunnie’s next wave are the Merchant and the Thief, and these two make the battle TOUGH. The Thief will steal SP, and the Merchant will initiate Group Attack Counter; Attack the group and the Merchant will jams his spear up your collective asses.
Thing is, the same rule applies. Knock their HP low enough, or if Yunnie’s HP is low enough, and these two will Boost as well. And both of them have a Suicide Attack that will result.
If you are able to knock out Yunnie before these two kill themselves, you win. You need only survive their Boost attacks which will cause the battle to end.
If Yunnie’s still standing by the time the Thief and the Merchant off themselves, Yunnie will summon her FINAL wave.
The final wave of Evening Calm is the Warrior and the Apothecary. These two are tough. The Warrior will serve as the powerhouse and he has Group Attack Counter like the Merchant. The Apothecary can...use a healing move that has an added effect of regen (healing is 5-digits, regen is 4-digits).
If you want to have a fighting chance against these two...make damn sure Yunnie is downed by the time those two show up.
You also want to kill the Apothecary afterwards to prevent healing. It also has the added effect of making the Warrior’s Counter COMPLETELY USELESS.
I should also add that both Warrior and Apothecary can Boost...but will not suicide. These are the last wave of Yunnie’s band.

I've heard people say while there are stand out permanent characters among the other jobs, Warrior doesn't really have anything worth talking about outside of limited, so it's advised to go for Richard if you want a top tier warrior. The minority seem to be villains, there are a lot of strong story characters it looks like.
Oh, and Rinyu is supposed to be a god tier cleric even above Ophelia, so she's another solid pick to go after.

So yeah. Around 5 months before we get hit with Part 4: Bestower of All, and the Craziness that is the Memory Banners.
Regardless of how stingy or generous these Memory Banners get, I can only hope that the Part 4 story chapters are rebalanced so that players aren't required to have any or all of them guided and maxed out just to stand a chance at clearing them.
So I just caved in and got Jillmeila. I needed a good Dark-type breaker, and I got my sights set on the Doddering Mercenary.
I loathe last hit with ultimate missions. Just tried floor 7 I think it was of the Veteran's Tower, vs the BT bow npc. Had him down so low during break I calculated he would have just a teeny bit left after Odette's attack, perfectly setting him up to be killed by one of my ultimates. And for the first time in days (I use Odette every day), her passive activated and she doublecast, killing him with her 3 hit random light. There was a 90% chance this wouldn't happen and everything would work perfectly. Now I have to wait for my attempts to refresh tomorrow.
For those times, I just build up every one’s Ultimate gauge, and when the enemy’s weak, I use all four of them in one turn. Guaranteed achievement.
Finally. That was unfun. EX2 pretty much required you to be lucky so Auguste would shift into sword so Sigrid could finish him off with her ult.

I’m having difficulty with breaking the guys. Plus Olberic, Primrose and Sigrid are the only power guys with damaging Ultmates.
Ironically... I managed to finish with an Ultimate just fine. The problem is ensuring that Ri’tu doesn’t get whacked in battle.
Bros... Why is Tressa's Theme so much more emotional than it has any right to be, the only one coming close is Alfyn's.. Her quest in COTC was by far my favorite too. Good mix of fun and sweet. Truly she is the best Girl of this Franchise

Still struggling to beat Gertrude with a team at roughly level ~90. Any ideas on whether/where I should swap in Lynette? Current team is, in order (first line is front row, second line back row):
Lianna / Scarecrow / Theo / Glossom
Z'aanta / Ri'tu / Viola / Wingate
Tempted to swap out Wingate, but his speed debuff seems useful for slowing her down and getting a shield break before she can move on a given turn.
Wingate would be one choice, though I’d probably take out Glossom. Not sure what he’s doing in the lineup.
he boosts phys. attack + physical defense which helps the team survive most of Gertrude's attacks more often, but agreed he doesn't add much in terms of breaking G's shield sooner. Thanks for the input!

Seems like Octopath 2 got leaked. The entire OST is on YouTube already. If you care about that, be careful.
I think people just ripped it from the Demo? Not sure how that works tbh so I could easily be wrong.
In regards to Octopath 2 I just finished the Demo after trying out most of the Origins. It feel's so much smoother compared to the first one and the OST is really great especially the night themes. I also managed to try out one of the Sub-classes that you can find surprisingly early. I think it was called Inventor? Anyways it felt really strong + useful and to make it even better Ochette is immensely cute using the class outfit. Glad I choose her as my first traveler her quips when powering up and just her voice-lines in general are very cute and nice to listen to. Looking forward to this game more than I expected
In other news, we’ll be getting a Tavern Talk on Monday (2/27). A REAL one this time.
Which probably means that Wednesday, March 1st will be when Bestower of Wealth Chapter 3 releases.
I am REALLY looking forward to the next roadmap this coming month.

Does anyone have some ideas about what direction the Story will be taking after the last JP Arc? I wonder if they are going to focus more on Self-contained chapters In remote location's of the world. What do you guys think? I don't believe that they will just stop releasing content.
A brand new storyline. Everything concerning the god rings has pretty much culminated to this point.
There’s probably still the Seed Story which ran alongside Bestower of All. Not sure if that’s done and over with yet.
Some folks are theorizing that we’re gonna have a brand new arc in Solistia, but that in and of itself sounds like a handful considering just how much focus Orsterra has in this game.
About the story, dunno. Orsterra's arc is likely complete at this point and the lore about the Gods is likely to be expanded/retconnected in upcoming game.They could release some events in the time being (Octo II collab will be fact).
I think they said that whatever they'll release won't be locked behind beating Bestower of All. So it's probably safe to assume it's going to be completely separate.
The ten traveler's seals we got didn't give me anything, but the knowledge that we're getting 200 rubies inspired me to pull on the first step of Soleil's banner. I didn't get her, but I got Nicola! 150 rubies for a 5 star is a steal, I'm quite pleased. Now I have all the thieves except Adelle because frick Adelle's banner in global.

Is there anything that I should know, look out for?
Viola's a good 5* to start with imo. There's nothing much you need to watch out for when you're starting the game, just enjoy the story like you would a single-player RPG and be extremely stingy with your rubies.
The game is currently divided into four parts, with a fifth part on the way:
Part 1 - Master of Wealth/Power/Fame
Part 2 - Master of All
Part 3 - Bestower of Wealth/Power/Fame
Part 4 - Bestower of All/Seed Story
Part 5 - We’ll find out in March
Your main goal will be to get as many 5-Stars as you possibly can. The best way to start off will be to hit every Step Up banner you can ONCE. Each Step-Up guarantees at least One 5-Star, which is what you want.
The 3-Stars (there’s 24 of them) and the 4-Stars (There’s 32 of them + 11 unreleased ones) are pretty much a shoe in. Your first goal will be to get a 5-Star for each job, and for each element, giving you a well-rounded team.
1200 rubies is your magic number for most Step-Ups.
Once you are done with Master of All, THEN start saving your rubies. If you’ve been doing the side stories of all the characters you’ve acquired over time you’ll reap a bunch of big rewards at once.
During part 3 is when the well will start to dry up. You’ll have some opportunities to score big rubies...but it’ll be difficult. And there’ll be some expert-level battles where a well-rounded team won’t cut it, such as the Arena Champions, or the L100 Veterans.
Another thing to keep in mind is that:
3-Stars cap out at 40.
4-Stars cap out at 60.
5-Stars cap out at 80.
You can use Guidestones to raise their cap to up to 20 levels, so you’ll want to do your daily dose activities.

When you say hit each step up once, do you mean complete the entire step up or just roll on a single step?
Do the entire Round. The guaranteed 5-Star will appear on the 10th pull of the 5th Step.
If you wanna save rubies, maybe do ONE step. The first step is up is usually only 150 rubies (which you can make up in a week), and you MIGHT get lucky. But don’t do three or four steps and then just stop.
What are the chances that Global also get Octopath 2 characters when they release? Sure it'd throw off the balance, but it'd also keep things interesting and stop people from hoarding.

They released Alfyn a whole year early, they don't really care about balance anymore. I say it's pretty likely.
Next to nothing. Japan creates the characters from scratch and global translates and improves. If Japan doesn’t have it made, they’re not likely to give us global exclusive characters.
He was talking about a simultaneous OTII character release, not EN exclusives, but they did ask about them in one of their surveys. EN exclusivity is apparently a common thing in SQEX gachas, SaGa got an EN exclusive unit so good, they started to joke around that JP is nothing but a beta test server.
Well, it would certainly be funny if we get GrahamKit Crossford, Cordelia Ravus, Lyblac or Pardis before JP.

Nah, I wasn't a fan of the the first one and 2 look to just be more of the same with some added polish. I already downloaded the game when it leaked, but I've had no real desire to play it so I'm certainly not parting with my shekels for it.
4-Hours before I can play it. But I am really looking forward to it. My only concerns are the difficulty and length of the game. Didn't play the first one so not sure hot it turned out there. Anyone got some opinions on that?

Is there some sort of strategy to spending your SP in CoTC?
Do you beeline skills/passives or should you fill out entire boards before moving onto the next step?
Higher level boards generally offer better value so you generally want to zoom for the higher boards while picking up any abilities and passives you want along the way and try to focus on the high value nodes for relevant stats.
I you have any Travelers with their 5* Board unlocked they usually contain their High-Value skills. Usually For all characters I own I will Bee-line to the Final board and then Unlock the Relevant skills before going for stats.
BP nodes are also High-Priority always
Does the level 100 npc in grandport disappear after I finish the main quest here? I get a scary ass warning that path actions won't be available anymore after progressing and I don't want to lock myself out.
Nope, should be fine. I was worried about that warning too, but all it does is stop you from interacting with most of the Grandport citizens until the next sequence is over, which is just one short dungeon and a boss fight iirc.

Yeah, and no information about the next character either. A week of solemn countdown was devoted to the second chapter of the Bestower of Wealth, and now all attention is riveted on Octopath Traveler 2.
Only if you lack a decent healer. In any case, I recommend to wait and be very cautious with all the characters from the general pool. Just wait at least until the next character comes out, Soleil won't run anywhere.

As a general rule, do you use ultimates early in tournament fights or save them for the end, when the boss breaks out extra moves/turns? It seems like it makes sense to save for the end so there's less time dealing with an extra strong boss, but it's also trickier to set up ultimates and boosts if you wait longer (currently getting Gertrude down to the red and trying to figure out how to get the rest of the way there).
That granny finally dropped a BT staff for me. I think that took months of daily fights to hit that 10%.
