Ochette and Partitio of course. Both of whom I didn't think I'd care for but ended up winning me over. While I thought Throne would be my favorite but I only liked 3rd or 4th best
Not him but i liked Casti the best, Partitio is fun but Castti honestly hits all the right points in gameplay, design, how she wears alternate jobs, combat ability and having a nice storyline and fun character interactions.
I didn't actually expect all that much when i started the game but she pretty much became my favorite character, still don't regret starting with Oswald though, doing his stuff as the "Main storyline" when starting was very strong and getting the One True Magic was pretty neat as the first "super skill", and honestly he has by far the best intro.
I couldn't even make it through the first game's demo because the bloom was fricking ridiculous. Not even Wind Waker HD had it this bad. It's just eye-searing.
Based off the title, I was prepared for an ensemble adventure with eight characters all together.
So I was disappointed when I played it and realized each character is mostly alone in their arc.
It's less about the graphics and more about scale and abstraction. The pixel artstyle abstracts the world in simple representations of greater things. It lets your imagination do the heavy lifting to fill the void.
By going 3D and having more realistic proportions, that of abstraction is lost and the world instantly starts to feel MUCH smaller.
That's what people mean when they talk about the older games feeling more like adventures
>That's what people mean when they talk about the older games feeling more like adventures
Nah bro, what they mean is "I was a kid when I played this so it felt like an adventure"
are some of these supposed to be bad? the red hair, purple hair and glasses girls are hot. honestly the indian isn't so bad either. the rest are just random old people and are bad now because?
"Good" is a stretch, but it was better than these. People won't admit it, though, because it was a technical disaster and Game Freak doesn't deserve praise.
Pokémon is a juggernaut that was never necessarily made on having 'good' games, as much as people love the concept. Shit's an enormous multimedia empire with their own zealots backing it.
Having that said, I would think the main series of games arguably began declining by XY.
>platformer with simple pixel art since it's an indie game and pixel art clearly more of a 16bit era style >vs an arcade fighting game which has way more artists and also a much smaller scope
only good looking modern pixel game that is actually fun to play is blasphemous, it's not worth the effort, better spent on gameplay.
That blurry blobby mess isn't even 8-bit style. It's some Frankenstein monster created by someone with no understanding how pixel art was done for those older games.
>only good looking modern pixel game that is actually fun to play is blasphemous, it's not worth the effort, better spent on gameplay.
Just use AI bro
You can draw print a million of HD sprite art in very little time and with very little effort now
No excuse anymore
What about the opposite? Is there a game with a 3D character in a pixel art space?
3D pokemon assets are lazy shit so I don't blame people for shitting on them. That company deserves all the hate.
"HD-2D" is fricking ugly.
Clean art is better than pixelshit in general. If indie games like Hollow Knight can do it then big companies like Square-Enix can definitely do it.
Seeing this image makes me realize that ALL of the screen text should be in the large font shown for the chapter title. It's the same relative size as the text in the SNES version when compared side by side.
I fricking hate how everything has tiny ass text these days.
The text at the bottom shouldn't even be a thing
LaL remake presentation is a net downgrade in everything
Just look at the poses of the characters in the left, how each of them are facing on their own direction relative to their position, how each of them have a unique but subtle wallpaper in the background
And then look at the absolute soulless and amateurish slop in the right
HK would be immensely better if it was done with good pixel art
The worst part about the game is the clean flash game aesthetic, its disgusting
IMO the fact that I was able to overlook how bad the artstyle is just because I was having so much fun its what makes it a good game
>HK would be immensely better if it was done with good pixel art
Nah, the art direction is calarts and tumblr as frick
The coloring is also ugly as frick
Even if you did it in paper and ink like Cuphead it would still have that hideous art direction
you might have a point with the art direction being shit, but I still think that pixel with bad direction is better than flash graphics with bad direction
I'm pretty sure Hollow Knight isn't flash graphics
I don't think pixel art would improve it, much the same way I don't think going back to PS2 polygon counts would improve the look of AAA slop(i.e just because you go back to PS2 graphics that doesn't mean you have the skill to make a game as good looking as Silent Hill 3).
Bravely Default wasn't sprites though, it was "low poly" at best and even that is honestly very debatable. And it was honestly just kinda 4WoL 2 with a snazzier FF5 inspired Jobs system and more ambitious story, people just forget that 4WoL existed.
I'm playing BD for the first time recently, which is awful timing because it has all that online and streetpass functinonlity which is now broken because nintendo shut the servers down. I'm enjoy the game so far regardless.
I want to go through more of the Sqeenix catalouge from the release of BD to now, if anyone wants to comment which games are worth playing/missing please be my guest.
Star Ocean was jarring my first time playing it. It looks subpar on both ends. The 3d looks nice sometimes, and so do the sprites, but they never look good TOGETHER. In some cases, like small rooms and houses, they outright clash with each other. This is my first time being able to articulate this because I enjoy the game, but there was always something off visually . Triangle Strategy looks fricking awful, though.
Octopath thread?
its so fricking ugly. They just checked as many effect boxes as possible. The bloom is blinding in some areas
Based.
Who was your favorite 2 Traveler?
I like Partitio a lot, but think Temenos is my favorite.
Ochette and Partitio of course. Both of whom I didn't think I'd care for but ended up winning me over. While I thought Throne would be my favorite but I only liked 3rd or 4th best

Been thinking of trying this out because of the another eden section with them.
>Bloom out the ass
>Padded to hell
I could make a diarrhea joke but im too drunk to think of one
I couldn't even make it through the first game's demo because the bloom was fricking ridiculous. Not even Wind Waker HD had it this bad. It's just eye-searing.
>Use every shader that the switch can run because "modern"
>Make enemy npcs giant just because FF3/6 did it
Picrel is different because it doesn't have a gazillion visual effects and bloom like
looks like fricking ass
Based off the title, I was prepared for an ensemble adventure with eight characters all together.
So I was disappointed when I played it and realized each character is mostly alone in their arc.
i say this but am very handsome and have nice, thick hair at the age of 31
Pixel art is objectively superior to most 3d slop
Here I pixelated my big fat wiener for you to suck
it's fine on it's own but I was annoyed they remake live a live in that style
It's less about the graphics and more about scale and abstraction. The pixel artstyle abstracts the world in simple representations of greater things. It lets your imagination do the heavy lifting to fill the void.

Nah bro, what they mean is "I was a kid when I played this so it felt like an adventure"
is Pokemon the most consistent slowly-declining IP in all of gaming?
It thought it was Kirby for a while, but I guess I was wrong.
I wouldn’t say Kirby declined at all. It just coasted along, it comes out, it’s a Kirby game, it moves on to the next. Was the new one fun?
But the last pokemon game was good and better than SwSh, SM, and ORAS?
SV was shit
Ummmm... Wrong?
Ummmm…Yes?
are some of these supposed to be bad? the red hair, purple hair and glasses girls are hot. honestly the indian isn't so bad either. the rest are just random old people and are bad now because?
Why do so many of them have that homosexual hand-raised pose? Holy shit that's so fricking repulsive.
>makes trainer battles optional
>every trainer only has 1 (one) pokemon
I hate this shit.
I love the racism there. Opinion not worth hearing.
SV was even worse than SWSH but I guess I can't expect standards from anyone who still plays Pokemon at this point. Consider suicide.
"Good" is a stretch, but it was better than these. People won't admit it, though, because it was a technical disaster and Game Freak doesn't deserve praise.
SwSh was great
Being contrarian doesn’t make you cool or smart
Meant for
Frick, pokemon fans are sad.
Pokémon is a juggernaut that was never necessarily made on having 'good' games, as much as people love the concept. Shit's an enormous multimedia empire with their own zealots backing it.
Having that said, I would think the main series of games arguably began declining by XY.
I look like that and sound like that
>pixel art
People (including Pokemon fans) have shockingly low standards for pixel art. It’s sad to see.
>platformer with simple pixel art since it's an indie game and pixel art clearly more of a 16bit era style
>vs an arcade fighting game which has way more artists and also a much smaller scope

Pixel characters in low poly 3D environments is a great aesthetic, though.
No it isn't. It looks like cheap trash.
I didn't like it during its popularity, but it's far preferable to whatever shit we have now.
My main issue with the Octopath art style has nothing to do with other games and everything to do with how busy and cluttered everything looks
Octopath Traveler looked like dogshit, why do people praise it so much?
the sprite simply looks better. stop being a moron contrarian
>the sprite simply looks better
It doesn't
Pokemon hasn't had good sprite since gen 3
It's shit
I hate 2.5D so much it is unreal.
This looks really good, I wonder how its going to compare to elona though.
I think it's been in devhell for so long because he knows deep down he'll not be able to live up to the legacy
>I hate 2.5D
Do you though?
I love 2.5D so much it is unreal.
RO is so soulful its uncanny
what a lovely fantastic game that was, such a gem of its time
What about the opposite? Is there a game with a 3D character in a pixel art space?
3D pokemon assets are lazy shit so I don't blame people for shitting on them. That company deserves all the hate.
original Final Fantasy 7 had 3D chibi characters on nice 2D backgrounds. it looked like shit but people loved it.
The bottom IS peak tho
"HD-2D" is fricking ugly.
Clean art is better than pixelshit in general. If indie games like Hollow Knight can do it then big companies like Square-Enix can definitely do it.
HD-2D is shittier than actual pixel art
Hollow Knight is pretty mediocre looking however
Seeing this image makes me realize that ALL of the screen text should be in the large font shown for the chapter title. It's the same relative size as the text in the SNES version when compared side by side.

Does anyone have any herminia art, god she's hot and I could fix her
Bravely Default was the one that ruined the genre
Bravely Default wasn't sprites though, it was "low poly" at best and even that is honestly very debatable. And it was honestly just kinda 4WoL 2 with a snazzier FF5 inspired Jobs system and more ambitious story, people just forget that 4WoL existed.

Finish it if you want but Bravely Default is very disappointing for the amount of replaying it over and over again for an obvious ending
I wasn't a big fan on how Octopath and Triangle strategy looked. I did like the aesthetic for Star Ocean 2, Live A Live, and the DQ3 trailer.
DQ4 psx looks good also
>copertina italiana
Basatissimo
>Cool detective game
>It's Voxel
Almost all AAA games is photorealism, while almost all indie games are Pixel/Voxel.
I don't like this trend. It's so tiresome and uninspired.
This objectively looks better if you play it at the intended resolution and not blown up 900%
What happened to the Dragon Quest III remake btw?
I hate the tilt-shift photography effect these games have.
Unironically literally me
Star Ocean was jarring my first time playing it. It looks subpar on both ends. The 3d looks nice sometimes, and so do the sprites, but they never look good TOGETHER.
