You don't even need to get your team to level 100, but since the Blissey event started I have been leveling all Paldean Pokemon to level 100 since there is no way for me to do it in previous generations (I can passively use PokeJobs for things in Sword and Shield, and Poke Pelago for things not in Sword and Shield). When I mean all of them, I even mean shit I will probably never use like Smoliv or Shroodle.

Cheating is absolutely wrong and you shouldn't be doing it, but TPC made this bed with the way the VGC is ran in the first place. It's genuinely not a shock that this is the environment they've fostered.
This isn't even me dismissing the QoL we've gotten. It's genuinely nice that we've gotten things like Bottlecaps or the Vitamin rework. But it still all takes time to do your research, plan a team, raise a team most likely from scratch, and then get used to using that team and possibly having to tweak it which may fall back to raising even more Pokemon from scratch. When you only have a few months to get all this set up, even spending 20 hours is a good chunk of time you could instead be spending doing something else.

What’s funny is a guy that got caught with a genned Ursaluna was able to avoid being DQ’d if he played without it cause the rest of his team checked out and made top eight with only 5 mons. Meaning it’d have to be entire or almost the entire tea getting genned in to get DQ’d.

But now? I got a 6iv and 0 speed/5iv Ditto during the Ditto event. All items and vitamins are purchasable. Bottle caps. Nature Mints. Ability patches. All reasonably farmable through normal, pretty fun gameplay.
I'm able to get things exactly as good as the hackers, so they're just taking shortcuts and allowing themselves to constantly tweak their EVs for little edges. I hope Game Freak continues to tighten the hack checks and impose penalties for bringing them to both tournaments and ladder play.
I got several 6IV Dittos from the raids, but not a single 0IV one.

You don't even need to get your team to level 100, but since the Blissey event started I have been leveling all Paldean Pokemon to level 100 since there is no way for me to do it in previous generations (I can passively use PokeJobs for things in Sword and Shield, and Poke Pelago for things not in Sword and Shield). When I mean all of them, I even mean shit I will probably never use like Smoliv or Shroodle.
I am up to the Paradox Pokemon and have been investing maybe an hour or two a night while doing other things. There is no excuse at this point other than laziness and not wanting to play the games.

The actual practice takes place when you battle against a real person.
You can't battle if you don't raise your pokemon. It's not about translating to a sport, it's about you needing pokemon to battle. Unlike training for a boxing match, catching and raising your pokemon is the bare fricking minimum you need to compete. Practice on showdown and make your team ffs.

It's the fact there's no real reason to cheat anymore. You can catch a wild Dondonzo and have it be VGC ready in less than half an hour if you actually play the games because of how easy GF has made it with shit like mints and bottle caps, but most VGC players don't actually play the main games beyond having them to be able to compete. I remember seeing one of the big players during 7th gen complaining on twitter that they weren't far enough in the game to have the Z crystal they needed right before a big tournament.
In fact, there's no doubt in my mind that TPC wouldn't give a shit if Worlds wasn't being hosted in Japan this year but nips are super autistic about modifying game data.

Cheating is absolutely wrong and you shouldn't be doing it, but TPC made this bed with the way the VGC is ran in the first place. It's genuinely not a shock that this is the environment they've fostered.
This isn't even me dismissing the QoL we've gotten. It's genuinely nice that we've gotten things like Bottlecaps or the Vitamin rework. But it still all takes time to do your research, plan a team, raise a team most likely from scratch, and then get used to using that team and possibly having to tweak it which may fall back to raising even more Pokemon from scratch. When you only have a few months to get all this set up, even spending 20 hours is a good chunk of time you could instead be spending doing something else.
