It's like booting up ARMA and expecting something like Cod.

"Punishing" gameplay that has enemies and bosses that easily erase you and punish you by dropping your experience.
Stat/Weapon defined builds.
Block/Counter/Dodge based combat.
Scenic stages capped with bombastic and often punishing bosses.
I get not wanting to associate Nioh with Souls but you're just being dense you don't accept that the core of Nioh is traditional Soulslike.
