So they can get as much money as they can while putting in as little effort as possible, duh.

Likely because they're riding the shanty tiktok fad, it was the last good Ass Creed game for many, and they likely want to pull the plug on the original's servers (it's literally next in line, Ass Creed 3's servers already got pulled and all we're left with is the inferior "remaster").

        >assassins creed servers

Servers for what? Aren’t these all single player games?

          Anonymous

You're exactly right, but they still have servers. Black Flag used the servers for various special events, such as a Moby Dick style whale hunt. It was nothing other than Ubisoft's attempt to "fight piracy" by punishing paying customers who had spotty internet connection. It is a practice they continue to this day, despite the fact their "online enhanced" singleplayer can be easily gotten around.

tl;dr The French are wine sodden morons.

            Anonymous

the french are also big on unions and rights and such, so even the janitors at ubishit are paid a frickton. which helps to explain why they crank out shitty sequels again and again like there is no tomorrow. they literally can't afford to chill for a while and come up with a cool game idea,

And they were quite fun in truth.

          Moose

Brotherhood to BF all had multiplayer servers for the multiplayer mode, and then for the singleplayer of BF you had White Whale spawning events that randomly happened while online and only online where you hunted a White Whale and by killing three you got a unique outfit. It's the only way to get it as well without cheating it in.

            Anonymous

There were also the social chests, which gave a bit of money and would unlock an outfit and weapons, and the royal convoys, which gave 10k if you sunk them (and could be captured for a max-stat frigate). There were also some community challenges once upon a time, but those didn't stick around (and they never bothered to make their items obtainable).

The gaming industry is creatively bankrupt but that won't stop from the average gamer buying the product because if you look into the comments of that tweet you'd see people cheer on of it getting a remake.

      Anonymous

they're just not capable of making a new game
remakes are already made for you so you just have to copy them
diversity hires and foreign slave labor are almost capable of remakes and you can just throw a ton of clutter around and enable ray tracing to make some bullshots to justify their existence even when the original game is still very modern.

in this case it's extra blatant because they've got Skull and Bones delayed 7 times or something and still have nothing promising to show, they've clearly giving up and trying desperately to catch the last embers of the pirate fad before it fades completely.

        Anonymous

        This is the real reason.
The problem is they won't be able to do a 1-to-1 remake with improved assets. They will frick it up with gender-neutral pronouns and a troony pirate. They can't help themselves.

      Anonymous

I'm not really enthusiastic about remakes, but if you replayed AC4 you'll see that the game REALLY needed a couple more patches, specifically the parkour is fricking horrible in that game, constantly bumping into invisible stuff, constantly getting stuck, and getting shanties can be a pain because of this.
Most people only remember the good parts, but I've replayed it a couple of months ago and the foot sections are terrible.
And on top of that there's the fact that it has the most braindead iteration of combat in the entire franchise.
This is one of the few games that could benefit from a remake, but then again it's Ubisoft so they might make it even worse.

Why the actual shit is THAT the game they've decided to remake and not AC2 which would've actually benefitted from it?
I don't understand why so many companies just can't make good products anymore, and then get surprised when everything is failing

AC2 is perfect as is, it doesn't need any remakes.

I've played some great remakes of classic games recently that improved upon what seemed perfect. Most developers are remaking their best games with great flair.

That’s a double edge sword though, remaking a game is fine but changing a beloved game rustles feathers. I can’t think of any remakes that have been an improvement. They tried to improve ff7 but the remake was easily much more boring than the original.

It's not that hard if you're a 100%er. I don't even have the Ragnarok DLC yet nor have I gone to every general store to buy the stuff they added to them in the last patch.

How. I've cleared the maps and only have a few last missions to do and I'm just short of 73 hours. Does the DLC add that much content or do you guys just play slow as shit?

              Moose

You've clearly not done everything in every single map outside of the story if you're only at that much time spent. You also have to
              >Clear every single map and every single location in those maps.
              >Get every single item from every single store since multiple stores now have unique armor and weapons in them due to the newest patch.
              >Get all the equipment from the River Raids (Which alone takes about 60 hours bare minimum).
              >Complete the Ireland DLC which includes maxing out the buildings and obviously clearing the map.
              >Complete the France DLC which includes hours of farming missions with the rebels to buy all the items and upgrades in their store.
              >Complete the roguelike mode, upgrade every single body type, upgrade all the skills, and buy out its entire store.
              >Complete the mastery missions which mean getting gold on everything and then clearing the final area of it.
              >Complete the crossover island which is at least 5-8 hours.
              >Complete the epilogue which is like two hours.
At least 100 hours were also from logging in every week or two and doing challenges for exclusive items like the Adrestia and Jackdaw ship pieces, like eight different weapons, the AC logo tattoos, etc. They've patched those in now so you can just buy them at random shops. At least 2 hours were also because of the seasonal events which you can't do anymore.

              >Only thing I haven't played are the worst ones
              >Rogue

Rogue is the best one in the series dude. It's Black Flag but better and without the tailing missions.

              >Rogue is the best one in the series dude.
It's bad, stop lying to the man. Every single character is garbage, Haytham isn't even remotely like he was in 3 despite the story taking place during 3, Shay is easily one of the worst written MCs outside of Eivor, The Eagle Bearer, Jacob, and Arno, the story can't even justify Shay turning in any way that makes sense and gives no reason why he should still be a Templar after 3's events, the Morrigan is weak compared to the Jackdaw despite the legendary ship battles being amazing, the Assassins hunting you is incredibly irritating, the Wanted revamp is awful, etc.

20 hours, not 2, sorry. Seasonal events took a decent amount of time grinding the archery game, the wave battle, or hours of consecutive battles in the arena on the lowest difficulty.

Outside of River Raids and the main story I'd say it was okay. The DLC and post-patch content was the best part of the game outside of the seasonal stuff. It's definitely not a great game but I enjoyed it more than Odyssey.

You'll play hundreds of hours of pure slop but paying full price is where you draw the line? kek

Odyssey had a terrible story, terrible characters, pretended characters mattered when they appeared a whole one time, did an extremely piss poor job of Modern Day, completely ruined what AC is supposed to be which is a jack-of-all-trades game to focus on garbage builds, had absurd amounts of padding that even Valhalla only reaches with River Raids, and had so many areas that looked borderline identical it felt like you were going mental from the repetition.

Rogue I've already given you a plethora of issues. Why do you even think Rogue is a good game? Because they improved the islands compared to BF, the fantastic Legendary Ship battles, and Shay has a cool outfit? Great, that doesn't excuse virtually everything else being terrible. They didn't even attempt to make you like the Templars, they just turned them into Assassins with a very minor hint of them being bad via Haytham's bloodthirst and Gist saying he'd kill Shay, that's it. Monroe is basically a saint just to get you to try to like them. Shay can't even justify anything he does and the betrayal is the most hamfisted garbage possible that requires everyone at all times to be mentally deficient to have it happen.

I don't buy these games until they're $20 and only buy the DLC when it's on heavy discount. What kind of crazy person buys Ubisoft games at full price?

Fun. Also 70 hours is probably a friend playing it.

          You're missing 7 AC games.

I've played them all on consoles. Only thing I haven't played are the worst ones, Liberation, Rogue, Unity and Syndicate. Rest I have.

What the shit? AC4 isn't even 10 years old yet. This isn't like Persona 3 where the game in question aged poorly compared to its sequels and was in dire need of a remake to bring it up to the latest game's standards.

Except Persona 3 is perfectly playable and fun as it is. There are so many other SMT games that should be remade because they are either mechanically broken or just shit. Hell, the only way to play some of these games are with janky translations like SMT2 on SFC

      Anonymous

That can't be real, unless image is switched?

        Anonymous

It's real. In order to make a good remaster you have to do things like changing lightning directions in order to adjust this sort of shadow problem, but remaking whole cutscenes is expensive so they just swapped textures and lightening engines and called it a day.

        Moose

It's real, the remaster of 3 is an outright downgrade in almost every way compared to the original. It only has a few quality of life improvements but adds more bugs, destroys the visuals, and ruins how everything looks on the characters.

          Anonymous

did they really also changed the dialogues?

            Anonymous

Nah, for some reason the remaster's subtitles have a bigger font so instead of giving you the full phrase it shows a few words at a time

            Moose

No, in the remaster they made the subtitles twice as big and on top of that they're mistimed so you'll have lines that don't even have subtitles because it can't catch up at all.

          Anonymous

this picture also highlights a really stupid issue which is how they changed the subtitles for no reason, remaster has the character names (probably because "think of the deaferinos") which already eats up an entire line and then the text is frickhuge which means they can't even fit more than 8 words on screen at all times
it gets even stupider when someone in the game speaks a foreign language, which also has its subtitles in BOTH languages so it'll look something like
          >FRICKFACE MCGEE
          >Honhon sacrebleu l'omelette du fromage! (Fricking english c**t have a nice day!)
which doesn't look bad right now but that shit won't even fit on screen all at once in the remaster
obviously i don't really need subtitles to understand what's happening in the game but when they frick up something this simple you know you're in for a "quality" remaster

because that's how remasters are done. they just frick up the lighting and re-model the faces a tiny little bit, maybe, but that's it. complete remakes are where it's really at.

add random troony characters, sanitize the script and any spicy moments the original had, and use the anti-fun, imprecise climbing system that's been in place since AC origins without improvements? no thanks

      >add random troony characters
really anon? are you forgetting a certain famous female pirate that spent half the game posing as a man?

        Anonymous

Mary crossdressed (at first) because female sailors were a ridiculous idea, but she wasn't a troony. She was a woman posing as a man for gain. That said, I could totally see them doing that.

          Anonymous

I was more thinking of random side characters, quest givers etc. And let's not forget obligatory race-swapping. Also does anyone know if "blind" used figuratively triggers sensitivity readers already? The level of sanitation going on in the production of modern triple ayy games has got to be pretty high at this point

            >obligatory race-swapping
Of all the AC games, Black Flag would be the strangest choice for that. So many of the side characters (and crowd NPCs) are already not white, and the main characters are mostly historical figures. They could do it with the British and Spanish sailors, though I don't know how diverse their navies actually were at the time.

It might well be the best game in the Assassin's Creed series, but if you're after an "Assassin's Creed" game for everything that the series is best known for, it falls a bit flat. It plays like one, but there's only one really proper city and like half the main missions are tailing some butthole or walking along while someone spouts exposition. Fine pirate game, though, and honestly most of the Assassin's Creed stuff is to the game's detriment (though it is worked into the story well).

The only reason I could think of for a Black Flag remake is if they fix they godawful optimization issues where it runs like ass on high settings even if you've got a PC that far exceeds all of the requirements. And maybe updating the ship combat so it's actually more like AC3 ship combat instead of the dumbed-down shit that Black Flag gave us. Other than that I don't see any reason for a remake since the visuals are fine not amazing or anything like Arkham Knight but still decent.

Knowing Ubisoft they'll just make everything worse and more woke.

AC multiplayer was kino why did it die so fast?

      Moose

Because it got worse with each game adding in horrible features like Contested Kills, constant buffs to the Pistol while they constantly nerfed stuff like Smoke Bombs or Charge, focus on balancing for the worst game modes (The FFA kill ones and the CTF ones) instead of the ones that multiplayer is clearly designed around (Manhunt), maps that got so bad you could barely even hide in them without instantly starting a high profile chase or immediately getting spotted, and more.

The only good multiplayer was Brotherhood's, as soon as Rev came out it went down the crapper because the Pistol was already getting buffed to high heavens, and then 3 and BF made it even worse with their maps and buffs for rooftop runners.

Friendly reminder that the profit margins for Ubisoft are so thin that if you wait until the first discount you can both legally own and play the game while causing Ubisoft to lose money if you absolutely need your Ubislop. Valhalla had a 30% discount on PC and 25% discount on playstation after less than 40 days.

      Anonymous

sure, but these games often sell enough during the first month that they recoup their costs and investments on them. any money after that is just good old pure profit. and they also sell a lot of complete editions for up to 30 bucks or more a year later when all the dlc has come out. and that's also something a lot of people buy. so again, that's just pure profits on ubisoft's part. don't believe the hype, they've got enough moolah, they're not hurting for money. and if they are, it's because of stupid shit like skull and crossbones and other crap games that should never have been allowed to be made.

      Anonymous

You NEVER play an Ubisoft game upon release. Always wait 6~12 months because it will be a glitched buggy mess upon release, has been the case since AC3. Especially more so if you wait for 1 year because they'll release a version with all the DLC for a lower price than the day one price.

        Anonymous

You are correct, my post was aimed towards the people who are desperate for an ubisoft game on release.

        >Always wait 6~12 months because it will be a glitched buggy mess upon release

Valhalla still has bugs that were present from launch despite two years of support and bug fixes. The promised New Game + feature was also never delivered. Ubisoft is getting worse.

why the frick don't they just remake all the games starting from the first one? and then also fix the fricked up story and continuity errors and such, while they are at it?

Ubisoft is never ever gonna touch AC1. There's a reason it's the only game that hasn't been remastered or re-released or anything. Ass Creed as it exists might as well have started with AC2, AC1 is such a different beast it doesn't align with Ubisoft's goals since 2009. They'll milk Altair's appearance for all it is worth but they'll never touch the game itself. And that's a good thing, leave the good first game alone

1 was the only game where they made the most sense. And the whole conspiracy shit helped make it more interesting. It's clear that after 2 they stopped giving a shit when they booted the original writer guy.

But those were interesting because we got to see the internal workings and propaganda of Abstergo and the Templars. We also get to see IRL dev shitposting in the datalogs.

They weren’t interesting at all. The only time that shit has been interesting was when Desmond was around and everyone learned their lesson about being interested when Ubisoft killed him off because they know having a conclusion to their stupid story kills the cash train.
