Needing to code for this brick is probably why so many good devs came out of UK. They had to do wizardry because their medium was a rainbow calculator.
I want to add to this, for any aspiring artists or appreciators of art:
Overcoming limitation is the catalyst of all great art. When you have an unlimited palette on an unlimited medium, creativity is actually hindered, and one of my theories why most games/films are so shit now (not that any zee ex spectrum game is good).
Tim Follin got the spectrum’s single channel beeper, which only is technically supposed to have a setting of “on” and “off” to fade and produce 6 different channels of sound, somehow.
He was 16 years old when he wrote this.
When it comes down to it. The spectrum has just what it takes to make every game genre. 2d platformer, 3d FPS, flight sim, strategy, RPG, etc... That is saying a lot considering it's age.

I think most people know that the speccy is what it is because it was extremely cheap, but the thing is a lot of speccy fanatics on this board claim that it's much more powerful than it really is, for example claiming that the speccy is hardware wise vastly superior to the NES. This is the reason people bully speccy fans
