This. Energy cannot be created or destroyed. Therefore either the most basic principle of science every middle schooler is taught about is false along with nearly everything else on a cosmic and even local scale or… Something created it. Everyone has their own image of God anyway so I don’t really understand the debate, all evidence points towards option 2 being the case and whether its a guy in a lab coat or something beyond our comprehension I don’t really care, I honor him my own way

you’re still equating the big bang with the birth of reality. literally no physicist thinks the big bang literally created existence, just that it’s the furthest back our cosmological models can take us before they cease to be practical.

                TL;DR, you’re a midwit.

Quite the opposite, actually. The last time I read a biology textbook, I was amused at how the source of the universal order consistently presented therein was handwaved away as being caused by nothing more than a cosmic diceroll. Ironically, it takes more faith to believe that than to believe in the existence of a divine Creator.

thats life, bub. life is empty. if atheism is the truth, then we're all just dust animated and aware of itself through forces beyond anyone or anythings control. that the forces of nature as they be have come together in such a harmonious fashion so as to allow the propagation of living biological beings like us, as well as the development of sapience, is a bonafide one-in-a-million miracle. where we come from and where we go is all unimportant. we're unimportant. nothing in any part of the universe is important. it all just IS. it will BE. until a catastrophic chance of fate occurs that wipes all existence, it will continue to BE. then, it will have BEEN. its the purest form of nihilism. it doesn't embody pessimism. it doesn't encourage savage, depraved idealism. it just says "hey, lets enjoy this while we can before we inevitably black out for eternity," and thats IF death is even the end for us.

No life is glorious, the world is glorious I’ve felt both intense joy and heartache. Have been show vitriolic spite and the warmest of kindness and my feelings at that moment were more than just chemicals and neurons firing it was something much more. We are more than just our minds and bodies, in us exists something beyond our very comprehension yet is utterly intermingled with our very being.

                Anonymous

I feel you may have missed my point.

life certainly is glorious. that was what I was getting at, that even thought we're totally worthless, our minds allow us to create value and attach them to whatever we devise. people, places, experiences; all of them are a product of our own miraculously beautiful perception. a perception given existence through complete natural RNG. I appreciate all my life has been. what it will be. what other's lives have been. its like a big roller coaster with all sorts of ups and downs. the shit that makes me depressed sucks, but it makes me love it all the more when I'm able to feel happy and uplifted by what I find important to myself. life is wonderful. I'm gonna have a hell of hard time letting go of it, but I don't think theres anything I can do about that. I'll have to come to terms with it someday, and for now I think I have myself on the path to a healthy respect for it. I'm scared, but at the same time oddly content.

                Anonymous

There is an inherent beauty in our world it’s not merely our perception if we did not exist or had no way to comprehend or perceive these thing they would not lose their majesty we would simply not know about it. To say it doesn’t matter or that it’s nothing without us or that we are the ones that give it meaning devalued what it is substantially it’s as of saying that we are what everything is about as if we are the peak of existence and nothing can be either improved or built upon. It’s like saying that the fallen tree has always been silent.

For historical context its important to differentiate between the modern materialist atheist and an atheist in general. A materialist atheist simps for science, the big bang and is anti metaphysics, while Plato used a far more conceptual God that can just be explained as living metaphysics. Over history's course, Christians coopted a lot of what the Greeks said and claimed it was talking about the Christian God.

The only "confirmed" (as in anecdotal evidence was found) "atheist" of the greek world of philosophy was Diagoras.

Plato was neither. He was the founder of a sex cult, even.
                >Plato used a far more conceptual God that can just be explained as living metaphysics
This is not what Plato himself ever said. This was extrapolated by other, better people much later, using his works as a foundation.
                >Over history's course, Christians coopted a lot of what the Greeks said and claimed it was talking about the Christian God.
                This is blatantly untrue.
                >Petrarch, Boccaccio, Salutati, and Bruni all wrote at length on the theme of the compatibility of the study and admiration of pagan literature with Christian belief. Likewise, Bessarion, Ficino, Pico, Lefèvre, Valla and Budé all contributed to a debate about reconciling Christian belief with the study of pagan philosophy, with the former four arguing for this and the latter two against. And they were also quite motivated by theological and doctrinal issues. Salutati, Valla, and Erasmus all pondered free will and predestination. Petrarch, Salutati, Valla, and Erasmus argued for the value of a vowed religious vocation. Valla, Landino, Acciaiuoli and Erasmus wrote meditations on the Sacraments. Manetti, Valla, Erasmus, and Lefèvre all made translations of and commentaries on the Bible, while Traversari, Erasmus, and Juan Luis Vives wrote translations of the Church Fathers. Alberti, Bessarion, Flaminio, Manetti, Traversari and Valla all wrote saints’ lives.
                >Socrates was also atheist
                Debatable and you know it.

                >Do you think everyone likes Ancient Greece just because of popular culture and Age of Mythology
Funnily enough, yes, kind of. Greek philosophy was very important. Before ~1000 AD, that is. There have been more influential and better philosophers since then. It's like saying that Freud is the end-all-be-all of modern psychology.

The thinktank itself has too much front-loaded dialogue for sure, with not all of it being funny per-se, but Morbius saves it completely. Almost everything he says is fricking hilarious.

Its a shame that even when MOOOBIUS became plot relevant, he still had less dialogue than your Family Guy OD'd Brain. I quite liked him as a tragic character, felt pretty bad for him but he still made me laugh.

      Anonymous

I thought it was consistently amusing.
And sometimes in a surprising or creepy way.
I always wanted to know what would happen next.
I can't even imagine playing it and seething at the jokes tbh.
Games that are laugh-out-loud funny are pretty fricking rare. I remember laughing at Portal 2 but now it's cringe reddit humor apparently. Bad Fur Day and Postal made me laugh but that was mostly shock value and I was much younger back then. Some of the radio/cinema stuff in GTA made me laugh I think.
If you think OWB isn't funny, what games even are?

I feel the same way, I never cared much about "lore" and "tone" in a game where after your first playthrough you're most likely just snorting meth and murdering people with a chainsaw for fun.
LR is a cool endgame shooting gallery. Ulysses is moronic but so is a good chunk of the base game and other DLCs.

      Anonymous

LR is a combination of all of the above, though it really would have benefited from more than one and half characters

      Anonymous

LR's main issue is that it breaks what the courier was designed to be, "a player-shaped hole." The courier wasn't supposed to have much of a history, but Ulysses goes on and on about you accidentally blowing up the divide and his whole issue is with you specifically. Not bad per-se but didn't fit with the rest of the game. It's almost like they wanted to make his beef with you reflect the choices you made throughout the game but decided last second it wasn't feasible so they made up some past history for Ulysses to be pissy at you over instead.

      Anonymous

lr was moronic because it was forcing some stupid ass story on you who is supposed to make your own
thankfully the gear and gameplay of the dlc was cool, just ignore the morons talking

        Anonymous

I dont think thats entirely correct, you already had a story (you're a courier shot in the head), the problem was the story of LR makes it so you delivered not one but 2 extremely important world shattering objects (both the Platinum Potato Chips and the nuke activation codes) which is too much, especially considering your place in the story is meant to be coincidental. Instead, it seems like you have the power of fate looming over you.

It doesn't change enemy DR,DT or HP much. It just makes their damage output much greater. It's mostly an economy and general item balance mod.

The start of OWB is pretty jarring I'll give him that, its a huge dialogue dump while staring at one character model while multiple people talk (they all look the same which makes it worse) and it doesn't properly introduce you into the setting you will be playing in before dropping weird science on you (your brain is gone but you're still alive! It was implying a much more hard scifi classic fallout story, just focused on the scientists and lost technology. None of it implied the tone being what it was, so if you didnt watch the trailer the tone shift of OWB hits like a truck

On the surface it very much is but once you look deeper you’ll see how sad and downright fricked it is.

Or how all of them except or Mobius are kept in what is akin to a time prison constantly looping in order to keep them from fricking up the Mojave. Or the trauma harnesses as a whole or Little Yangtze.

The trauma harnesses are actually funny microcosm of the DLC's whole story in that they're failed experiments meant to live in a recessive cycle of what's essentially hell until someone takes pity on them and ends them. Really Mobius's plan was flawless up until Elijah came and ruined it like he does everything else.

Yeah, that doesn’t make it any less fricked up though, necessary but fricked up.

Probably one of the best lines in all the DLC's. Shame people can't look beyond the le wacky science fiction feature premise when that's kind of the point that it's a masquerade.

      Pure kino.
