The only "confirmed" (as in anecdotal evidence was found) "atheist" of the greek world of philosophy was Diagoras.
For historical context its important to differentiate between the modern materialist atheist and an atheist in general. A materialist atheist simps for science, the big bang and is anti metaphysics, while Plato used a far more conceptual God that can just be explained as living metaphysics. Over history's course, Christians coopted a lot of what the Greeks said and claimed it was talking about the Christian God.

>For historical context its important to differentiate between the modern materialist atheist and an atheist in general.
Plato was neither. He was the founder of a sex cult, even. >Plato used a far more conceptual God that can just be explained as living metaphysics
This is not what Plato himself ever said. This was extrapolated by other, better people much later, using his works as a foundation. >Over history's course, Christians coopted a lot of what the Greeks said and claimed it was talking about the Christian God.
This is blatantly untrue. >Petrarch, Boccaccio, Salutati, and Bruni all wrote at length on the theme of the compatibility of the study and admiration of pagan literature with Christian belief. Likewise, Bessarion, Ficino, Pico, Lefèvre, Valla and Budé all contributed to a debate about reconciling Christian belief with the study of pagan philosophy, with the former four arguing for this and the latter two against. And they were also quite motivated by theological and doctrinal issues. Salutati, Valla, and Erasmus all pondered free will and predestination. Petrarch, Salutati, Valla, and Erasmus argued for the value of a vowed religious vocation. Valla, Landino, Acciaiuoli and Erasmus wrote meditations on the Sacraments. Manetti, Valla, Erasmus, and Lefèvre all made translations of and commentaries on the Bible, while Traversari, Erasmus, and Juan Luis Vives wrote translations of the Church Fathers. Alberti, Bessarion, Flaminio, Manetti, Traversari and Valla all wrote saints’ lives. >Socrates was also atheist
Debatable and you know it.
>They weren't the enlightened, humanistic thinkers you seem to believe they were.
What
You can literally read many of their books yourself you know, did that ever cross your mind. Do you think everyone likes Ancient Greece just because of popular culture and Age of Mythology
>Do you think everyone likes Ancient Greece just because of popular culture and Age of Mythology
Funnily enough, yes, kind of. Greek philosophy was very important. Before ~1000 AD, that is. There have been more influential and better philosophers since then. It's like saying that Freud is the end-all-be-all of modern psychology.

>It was funny 12 years ago before it was popular but now that it's popular I've got to pretend that I don't find it funny
Frick off you hipster homosexual.
Based. Most people just remember the first dialogue with the hand penises thing, which is honestly pretty tiresome, but there are a bunch of well made jokes all throughout the DLC.
I'm not gonna say it isn't funny, because it often is. But a lot of it is just "we binge-watched the first 2 seasons of Venture Bros" in terms of humor. VB is one of my favorite shows ever but I would say it was mostly just "fine" before it really found its footing at the end of season 3.
I thought it was hit and miss, but it was definetely one of the better dlcs when it came to new vegas, no idea how some people rank it fricking last when lonesome road exists, fricking snoozefest.
The thinktank itself has too much front-loaded dialogue for sure, with not all of it being funny per-se, but Morbius saves it completely. Almost everything he says is fricking hilarious.
Its a shame that even when MOOOBIUS became plot relevant, he still had less dialogue than your Family Guy OD'd Brain. I quite liked him as a tragic character, felt pretty bad for him but he still made me laugh.
I thought it was consistently amusing.
And sometimes in a surprising or creepy way.
I always wanted to know what would happen next.
I can't even imagine playing it and seething at the jokes tbh.
Games that are laugh-out-loud funny are pretty fricking rare. I remember laughing at Portal 2 but now it's cringe reddit humor apparently. Bad Fur Day and Postal made me laugh but that was mostly shock value and I was much younger back then. Some of the radio/cinema stuff in GTA made me laugh I think.
If you think OWB isn't funny, what games even are?
>Welcome to camp Navarro >Enclave here... >YEAAAH WHO WON THE LOTTERY? I DID >Theoretical degree in physics
I disagree. Fallout tries to be funny pretty often
fricking moronic zoomer, fallout 1 and 2 had just as many silly nonsensical moments if not more so. Fallout has always had an undercurrent of mystery science theatre 3000 underneath the grim wasteland, and that's why it became a household name and Wasteland was more or less forgotten
Most of them are zoomers that can’t enjoy anything without at least 20 layers of irony. You can tell it’s them since their go to arguments are equating it to Rick and Morty.
>OH: You have to let go of your desire for vengeance and violence >OWB: You have to let go of the past >DM: You have to let go of your obsessions >LR: Feel sorry for this robot and his sob story boo hoo also you did a bad thing courier, feel bad about it and the bear and the bull bear and the bull
I feel the same way, I never cared much about "lore" and "tone" in a game where after your first playthrough you're most likely just snorting meth and murdering people with a chainsaw for fun.
LR is a cool endgame shooting gallery. Ulysses is moronic but so is a good chunk of the base game and other DLCs.
LR's main issue is that it breaks what the courier was designed to be, "a player-shaped hole." The courier wasn't supposed to have much of a history, but Ulysses goes on and on about you accidentally blowing up the divide and his whole issue is with you specifically. Not bad per-se but didn't fit with the rest of the game. It's almost like they wanted to make his beef with you reflect the choices you made throughout the game but decided last second it wasn't feasible so they made up some past history for Ulysses to be pissy at you over instead.
lr was moronic because it was forcing some stupid ass story on you who is supposed to make your own
thankfully the gear and gameplay of the dlc was cool, just ignore the morons talking
I dont think thats entirely correct, you already had a story (you're a courier shot in the head), the problem was the story of LR makes it so you delivered not one but 2 extremely important world shattering objects (both the Platinum Potato Chips and the nuke activation codes) which is too much, especially considering your place in the story is meant to be coincidental. Instead, it seems like you have the power of fate looming over you.
do i need to be a fricking stealth archer for the anti material rifle to feel like it does any damage? >see a robot >load in some AP >do less or on par damage with a brush gun or hunting rifle yet shoot half as fast
Try explosive rounds, it really fricks things up.
Just be warned that certain common enemies in dead money have infinite perception and make sniper builds a pain in the arse.
you could argue the same for any of these long range lever actions yet they fire so fast you can just walk into people spamming shoot
regardless its a 50 cal and sometimes it doesnt even do visible damage
it's fricking boring >b-but muh "we can't expect God to do all the work" >b-but muh survivalist's diary
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!
>"here's a fetch quest that requires you to go to the other side of the empty map that's full of trash mobs" >spend an hour trying to navigate the annoying geometry >your reward is Graham saying something edgy >repeat 3x until you get a quick shootout and it ends

>forget to bring 600 ammo for two guns >spend the next 2 hours having to hit stuff with proton axe because sink has no ammo and lobotomites drop 10mm garbage
You know them being crazy wacky lunatics actually has a reason right
They're the bad guys. They're the villains. Mobius is keeping them in this stupid heroes and villains antics so they won't try to break out from Big MT and destroy Mojave with their experiments.
I admit I missed this detail the first time I played the DLC. Second time I actually listened to Mobius and all the "wackiness" is justified, even if just a little bit.
>try to be a good citizen and give the NCR everything they want give them a truce with the brotherhood >time comes to save the president >outside of hoover dam didnt load its geometry so everyone falls to their deaths and i am villified >forced at this point to do wild card
BoS ending is gonna be weird since i just got done getting them to work with ncr...
Yeah. >start run >immediately leave Goodsprings and go to REPCONN HQ via Black Mountain >leave with the unique plasma rifle + like 300 microfusion cells >go to the sacked caravan east of the gun runners for free combat armor >do brotherhood questline for safehouse key >get a free tesla cannon and gatling laser from the safehouse + access to all the good shit Torres has
Get a mod that fixes enemies being reduced to ashes or sludge and its fine. YCS, LAER, Plasma Rifle are all good. Hell, even a Laser Rifle with its upgrades is fun. But get that mod. Otherwise everything slows down.
A Nogunz build is great to play no matter which
weapon you pick, besides Explosives I guess >but Dynamite
Boo. If I can't throw bundles like in Blood it's not worth it. And no, the Time Bomb doesn't count.
I actually made a small mod that changed dynamite to blow up on impact, like a grenade from a grenade launcher so that it works like in Blood. It was actually really fun and required 1 checkbox.
I'm drowning in energy cells even with jsawyer ultimate. If anything energy weapons feel more viable than guns.
the sawyer mod seems like it adds a lot of autistic difficulty changes
how does that affect the big MT of infinite DT bullet sponges?
It doesn't change enemy DR,DT or HP much. It just makes their damage output much greater. It's mostly an economy and general item balance mod. >how does that affect the big MT of infinite DT bullet sponges?
I don't remember but if something does a lot of damage in vanilla, it'll carve through power armor in jsawyer pretty much.
>OWB becomes an utter joke with the fully modded Holorifle from DM.
That's probably because you're supposed to do OWB before DM. I always run HH>OWB>DM>LR. Like you're chasing Ulysses through the DLC
>pseuds think the only philosophy that matters is the ancient greek one

Wait, so who's right and who's wrong then?
>bravely noble intellectuals like socrates
Fricking hell both sides would hate socrates. >how do you know this person is good >how do you define this as good >how do you know these rights are god given >what makes them god given when other countries do not have these rights >how do you know that Jesus is God >how do you know that Jesus is not God >how can you define a woman >how can you define a woman if there is a penis
Fricker spent a decent chunk of time just asking people this shit to see if there were any good ideas.
Socrates was based, taught me critical thinking in high school and saved me from every form of internet mental disease that could have claimed my uneducated mind.
The start of OWB is pretty jarring I'll give him that, its a huge dialogue dump while staring at one character model while multiple people talk (they all look the same which makes it worse) and it doesn't properly introduce you into the setting you will be playing in before dropping weird science on you (your brain is gone but you're still alive! Somehow).
That one isn't done in the "wacky crazy black and white science fiction movie" style that OWB that you play and see follows though. Compare the intro to how the DLC itself was advertised
But it still explains the setting you’ll get the wacky sci-fi stuff as you play the game.

It was implying a much more hard scifi classic fallout story, just focused on the scientists and lost technology. None of it implied the tone being what it was, so if you didnt watch the trailer the tone shift of OWB hits like a truck

OWB kicks ass Dead Money kicks ass Honest Hearts sucks ass Lonesome Road sucks ass this is the objectively correct opinion of me who is better than you
>incompetent
it was good scifi though. Much better than shittier newer games like Outer Worlds (not Outer Wilds) and shitty up and coming games like OW2___
They were incompetent as part of the plot they’re all rotting brains in jars stuck in a logic loop by their colleague so they won’t turn the Mojave into a Petri dish. And it makes sense since they created the fricking cazadors and nightstalkers. The Institute by contrast is supposed to be written as this Illuminati type group of geniuses but they’re all fricking dumb.
Or how all of them except or Mobius are kept in what is akin to a time prison constantly looping in order to keep them from fricking up the Mojave. Or the trauma harnesses as a whole or Little Yangtze.
The trauma harnesses are actually funny microcosm of the DLC's whole story in that they're failed experiments meant to live in a recessive cycle of what's essentially hell until someone takes pity on them and ends them. Really Mobius's plan was flawless up until Elijah came and ruined it like he does everything else.
Probably one of the best lines in all the DLC's. Shame people can't look beyond the le wacky science fiction feature premise when that's kind of the point that it's a masquerade.

>There have been more influential and better philosophers since then
Who? Schopenhauer? c**t? Name 5 newer European philosophers better than the Greeks
>inb4 stoic Romans
I already provided plenty of examples in my post.
You mean the opposite.
I thought Old World blues was funny
same
Muggy talking about how get got "raped" by the Biological Research Station really caught me off guard on my second playthrough.
I also think it's funny.
Hate those 800 hp nightstalkers though.
>best girl in the entire game is a stealth suit
still scares me with the "starting combat" fakeout.
eeeehhhh it has it's moments but the whole thing get's annoying fast, it feels like a Joss Whedon movie where everyone is trying to come up with a quip at the end of every sentence.
It kills my playthrough every time. The gameplay is a little tedious too.
It was funny 12 years ago. It's awful now.
It's still funny and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
penis tipped appendages made this post
>but finger penis
I laugh, oh wise sages of humor from Ganker.
You're wrong. Go laugh at finger penises and the cake is a lie.
>It was funny 12 years ago before it was popular but now that it's popular I've got to pretend that I don't find it funny
Frick off you hipster homosexual.
its awful now because you refuse to enjoy anything. you're too worried about the anons in your head calling you cringe.
Based. Most people just remember the first dialogue with the hand penises thing, which is honestly pretty tiresome, but there are a bunch of well made jokes all throughout the DLC.
isn't the start of the DLC like 30 minutes
Yes, like I said, it's tiresome.
>I thought Old World blues was funny
i thought it was just neat seeing how some of the mutant creatures were made
I'm not gonna say it isn't funny, because it often is. But a lot of it is just "we binge-watched the first 2 seasons of Venture Bros" in terms of humor. VB is one of my favorite shows ever but I would say it was mostly just "fine" before it really found its footing at the end of season 3.
On the flipside though, I'm always happy to see James Urbaniak getting more work because he's a fantastic voice actor.
?t=36
>"we binge-watched the first 2 seasons of Venture Bros"
Someone should in minecraft adult swim HQ for this
This
a grown man wrote this. and what's more he's probably a troony.
Learn to have some fun kid and maybe stop obsessing over trannies.

>ywn jerk off while the suit is on
>ywn leave your stain on the suit
>ywn ask the suit why it has self cleaning function but keep leaving the stain.
I thought it was hit and miss, but it was definetely one of the better dlcs when it came to new vegas, no idea how some people rank it fricking last when lonesome road exists, fricking snoozefest.
Sorry anon, you're not allowed to like it anymore because it's Reddit. Just like Portal and Portal 2.
Portal 2 was always reddit, and I say this as someone who wants to frick GLaDOS. Wheatley was a mistake
Revisionist history. It won the VGA GOTY award and those morons running it specifically filter out Ledditors.
Bastion, Human Revolution and Shogun 2 were better. Though I guess most Gankerirgins REALLY didnt want Bamham Citiy or Skeerim to win.
The only thing I found funny about OWB was when it berated me in the ending slides for rushing through its story.
same, It was better than Bear&Bull road and miles better than Mothership Zeta
I don’t think funny works for Fallout’s setting.
>Welcome to camp Navarro
>Enclave here...
>YEAAAH WHO WON THE LOTTERY? I DID
>Theoretical degree in physics
It was, only homosexuals hate it.
Most of them are zoomers that can’t enjoy anything without at least 20 layers of irony. You can tell it’s them since their go to arguments are equating it to Rick and Morty.
They said "penis fingers" so funny!!!
I have a friend in the Legion named "Penis Fingers"
>*barely held in snicker*
>I thought Old World blues was funny
frick the robodogs and the scorpions
why the frick were there 3 fricking skeletons in a suit though
dr who reference
to be honest this is my favourite dlc. it doesn't take itself seriously and has cool designs
>OH: You have to let go of your desire for vengeance and violence
>OWB: You have to let go of the past
>DM: You have to let go of your obsessions
>LR: Feel sorry for this robot and his sob story boo hoo also you did a bad thing courier, feel bad about it and the bear and the bull bear and the bull
going through toppled buildings, highways and underground was kino for me
i had more trouble with the marked men than the tunnelers or the deathclaws, then again, i used flash bangs sparringly
LR is a combination of all of the above, though it really would have benefited from more than one and half characters
Instead, it seems like you have the power of fate looming over you.
yeah that also justifies mod gays like the frontier people making the courier out as some deity savior of the world
do i need to be a fricking stealth archer for the anti material rifle to feel like it does any damage?
>see a robot
>load in some AP
>do less or on par damage with a brush gun or hunting rifle yet shoot half as fast
Try explosive rounds, it really fricks things up.
Just be warned that certain common enemies in dead money have infinite perception and make sniper builds a pain in the arse.
The perception thing is a glitch and fixed by the Unofficial Patch and I think JSawyer mod too.
isn't the whole point of a sniper rifle to be stealthy with it and land sneak criticals
you could argue the same for any of these long range lever actions yet they fire so fast you can just walk into people spamming shoot
regardless its a 50 cal and sometimes it doesnt even do visible damage
i wish i was one of dalas teddies...
I would've liked a dlc that added more content to the mojave rather than all of them being self contained
the density of locations on the mojave map was too large to facilitate that i feel
unless its something like GRA
I suppose, the game just feels unfinished imo
Dead Money is the only good DLC. everything else sucks ass. I just wanted to get back to the Mojave the entire time I was forcing myself to play them.
>filtered by Honest Hearts
Embarassed.
it's fricking boring

Doesn't matter. No one's free. Now piss off.
NO
Not a question. Piss off.

Dead Money is kino but a little too easy, you have to go in early to really enjoy it
Played NV for the first time recently and I can’t believe what a fricking loser Dean Domino is.
>Could have just stocked up on shit from the replicators before going anywhere.
>Instead squats at the Madre for 200 years to one up a skeleton in the basement.
Any normal person would have gone insane after one month, Dean had 200 years of literal hate towards Sinclair to keep him going.
Leaving isn't the hard part
It's letting go
Dean as a seething homosexual who never got anything for centuries of suffering in a hellscape is well deserved karma.
>forget to bring 600 ammo for two guns
>spend the next 2 hours having to hit stuff with proton axe because sink has no ammo and lobotomites drop 10mm garbage
>tfw I console command ammo
I played this shit a thousand times already.
This dlc filtered me so hard I never even finished the game. I was right before the dam fight too.
did new vegas ever use this brick wall texture from the pitt?
You know them being crazy wacky lunatics actually has a reason right
They're the bad guys. They're the villains. Mobius is keeping them in this stupid heroes and villains antics so they won't try to break out from Big MT and destroy Mojave with their experiments.
I admit I missed this detail the first time I played the DLC. Second time I actually listened to Mobius and all the "wackiness" is justified, even if just a little bit.
Total NCR Death
calm down, incel
>try to be a good citizen and give the NCR everything they want give them a truce with the brotherhood
>time comes to save the president
>outside of hoover dam didnt load its geometry so everyone falls to their deaths and i am villified
>forced at this point to do wild card
BoS ending is gonna be weird since i just got done getting them to work with ncr...
>BoS ending
Get those keycards, anon.
>PENIS FINGERS :OOOOOOOXD
begiiiiin agaiiiiiin
IN THE NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT
the sawyer mod seems like it adds a lot of autistic difficulty changes
how does that affect the big MT of infinite DT bullet sponges?
Old World Blues is funny. The Think Tank itself is not the highlight though, the stealth suit, MOBIUS and the sink were.
Is an Energy Weapons run worth it? I feel like the game favors Guns a lot more.
Yes because its sometimes fun to play suboptimal builds
It's easier because you can be swimming in ammo by the time you reach Novac and do the ghoul quest.
ive never really done energy but elijahs LAER seems pretty good
Yeah.
>start run
>immediately leave Goodsprings and go to REPCONN HQ via Black Mountain
>leave with the unique plasma rifle + like 300 microfusion cells
>go to the sacked caravan east of the gun runners for free combat armor
>do brotherhood questline for safehouse key
>get a free tesla cannon and gatling laser from the safehouse + access to all the good shit Torres has
>start run
>immediately make my way through hills north just between cazadores and deathclawes to Freeside
>have sex with the goul prostitute
Get a mod that fixes enemies being reduced to ashes or sludge and its fine. YCS, LAER, Plasma Rifle are all good. Hell, even a Laser Rifle with its upgrades is fun. But get that mod. Otherwise everything slows down.
New vegas despawns ashes and goo after 3 days.
ash and goo were only ever a problem in fallout 3
Yes and the Laser Pistol is unironically one of the most reliable guns in the game if you build for it.
A Nogunz build is great to play no matter which
weapon you pick, besides Explosives I guess
>but Dynamite
The Holorifle is fricking amazing.
energy weapons are stronger than guns and energy weapon ammo naturally subtracts DT values.
True, but they shoot much much worse. Accuracy/recoil wise.
Energy Weapons trivialize the game.
OWB becomes an utter joke with the fully modded Holorifle from DM.
>OWB becomes an utter joke with the fully modded Holorifle from DM.
That's probably because you're supposed to do OWB before DM. I always run HH>OWB>DM>LR. Like you're chasing Ulysses through the DLC
>not understanding that Old World Blues is specifically making fun of the “oh my science” reddit crowd
>5mm subtracts 10 (TEN) DT
>shotgun surgeon subtracts like 12
>every other bullet doesnt get shit even specially crafted ammo does like 3 DT
I played the DLCs for the first time this week, Old World Blues was by far the worst. Absolutely unbearable dialogue
>pseuds think the only philosophy that matters is the ancient greek one
You moronic atheists would piss and shit yourselves if you knew what completely outrageous shit the greek believed in. They weren't the enlightened, humanistic thinkers you seem to believe they were.
>They weren't the enlightened, humanistic thinkers you seem to believe they were.
What
You can literally read many of their books yourself you know, did that ever cross your mind. Do you think everyone likes Ancient Greece just because of popular culture and Age of Mythology
> chud drumpf supporters all think the greeks were either NEET shitposters like diogenes or bravely noble intellectuals like socrates
> according to terf biden supporters, ancient greeks laid the progressive and multiracial foundation for the modern democratic party
Wait, so who's right and who's wrong then?
>bravely noble intellectuals like socrates
Fricking hell both sides would hate socrates.
>how do you know this person is good
>how do you define this as good
>how do you know these rights are god given
>what makes them god given when other countries do not have these rights
>how do you know that Jesus is God
>how do you know that Jesus is not God
>how can you define a woman
>how can you define a woman if there is a penis
Fricker spent a decent chunk of time just asking people this shit to see if there were any good ideas.
Socrates was based, taught me critical thinking in high school and saved me from every form of internet mental disease that could have claimed my uneducated mind.
Dont get me wrong hes fun but normalhomosexuals don't like to play the
>question every belief including why you should question beliefs belief
>old world words words words words words words words words words words
What’s the problem do you have ADD or something? I mean it’s not fricking MGS.
Somehow).
But there’s a whole thing at the beginning that explains what Big MT is.
That one isn't done in the "wacky crazy black and white science fiction movie" style that OWB that you play and see follows though. Compare the intro to how the DLC itself was advertised
that's a good trailer. a lot of dialogue that wasn't even in the game.
It reminded me more to the beginning of those classic movies where there’s a warning or talk about something that will end up being the threat/issue later on.
>This Film Is Dedicated To The Brave Mujahideen Fighters Of Afghanistan
It was pretty wordy even in a time I was fine with a ton of dialogue, also this
>while staring at one character model while multiple people talk (they all look the same which makes it worse)
OWB kicks ass Dead Money kicks ass Honest Hearts sucks ass Lonesome Road sucks ass this is the objectively correct opinion of me who is better than you
>le chud drumpf
>It's ok when Obsidian makes an incompetent scientist faction
>It's bad when Bethesda does it
>incompetent
it was good scifi though.
Shoild have been able to romance Dala.
I mean there kind of is.
>Bringing Gabe’s food bowl back to Borous
I thought this was the funny dlc…
On the surface it very much is but once you look deeper you’ll see how sad and downright fricked it is.
>dala's room is full of broken mirrors
>her obsession with your physical body is alot less funny now
🙁
Or how all of them except or Mobius are kept in what is akin to a time prison constantly looping in order to keep them from fricking up the Mojave. Or the trauma harnesses as a whole or Little Yangtze.
The trauma harnesses are actually funny microcosm of the DLC's whole story in that they're failed experiments meant to live in a recessive cycle of what's essentially hell until someone takes pity on them and ends them. Really Mobius's plan was flawless up until Elijah came and ruined it like he does everything else.
Yeah, that doesn’t make it any less fricked up though, necessary but fricked up.
Probably one of the best lines in all the DLC's. Shame people can't look beyond the le wacky science fiction feature premise when that's kind of the point that it's a masquerade.
>This sensation is unpleasant, I don't care for it. I don't care for this place either. And... I... feel as if we've forgotten something
Pure kino.
I've hated Borous ever since.
