Reforged will always be funny.
They went out their way to update models, give unique models and designs for almost every main npc in the game and trash NPC to be more in line with WoW. They then said they were gonna rewrite the campaigns with additional missions to fit more modern wow lore changes. Then they completely scrap the rewrite and just keep the updated models that loom more in line with WoW

The model that made it into the game is infinitely better than the original """upgrade""", but the fact that they thought it was a good idea in the first place is pretty fricking alarming.
I think the new model is alright, but I think they should have armor that looks way more worn and tarnished, claws that are cracked and crooked teeth.
Everything in nu-WoW looks so clean and plastic-y, I don't like it.
It's largely because the facial proportions are more human-like and the eyes are larger.
Notice the original model, the teeth are huge, yellow and uneven, the lower jaw juts out significantly (a trait not present in human faces), the eyes are tiny and lacking pupils and finally the whole face is compressed into a flattened, snarling mess (this interrupts any smooth lines in the face area, which is separate from the human-like point but also relevant, smooth lines in character design are visually appealing, but this is a bad thing when designing monsters).
The original model is designed to look like a monster, not like a humanoid animal.
The new model is designed to look like a humanoid animal. The teeth are small, white and orderly, the eyes are bigger and have pupils, the face is now a smooth, evenly colored snout and the facial fur is not only present but emphasized to frame the character's face.

I don't play MMOs, nor do I play things designed for China/tencent, but this looks much better than the grimdark aesthetic they had beforehand that aged like milk. It doesn't seem really that furry, it seems more akin to an animated series than anything.

From my experience, in long going MMOs. People who play them throughout the years DO NOT want the older models updated, no matter how good or bad the old crowd for better or worse will always be against it. Everquest tried this once as well and it had the same outcome. Honestly has any MMO upgraded its old models and the playerbase liked it more then disliked? Im sure its happened but im also sure its so rare you can count it on one hand.
XIV will apparently be updating models soon or something so that the launch races get closer in detail to the newest rabbit and furry frickers. It looked like a mostly positive response after they posted the early alpha renders for the update. It's not changing the artstlye dramatically though, looks mostly like an update to the old models lighting filters.

The color of a person is determined by genetics and/or minor evolution based on where a tribe has lived for the last millenia or whatever. If they live in a place where the sun shines overwhelmingly then their skin becomes darker. If the weather is varied with a lot of rain both cold and hot, like in europe, then people develop a whiter skin color for example.
Immigration is one thing, but mixing up the colors to such an extreme as seen in most modern games/movies, including WoW, then it steps over the boundaries of believability. Stormwind is the stereotypical central european fantasy city with enviroments accoarding to said stereotypes. They then said they were gonna rewrite the campaigns with additional missions to fit more modern wow lore changes. XIV will apparently be updating models soon or something so that the launch races get closer in detail to the newest rabbit and furry frickers. It looked like a mostly positive response after they posted the early alpha renders for the update. It's not changing the artstlye dramatically though, looks mostly like an update to the old models lighting filters.
From my experience the only thing most people agree on when it comes to the updated WoW models is the Porn was upgraded. that's about it

The color of a person is determined by genetics and/or minor evolution based on where a tribe has lived for the last millenia or whatever. If they live in a place where the sun shines overwhelmingly then their skin becomes darker. If the weather is varied with a lot of rain both cold and hot, like in europe, then people develop a whiter skin color for example.
Immigration is one thing, but mixing up the colors to such an extreme as seen in most modern games/movies, including WoW, then it steps over the boundaries of believability. Stormwind is the stereotypical central european fantasy city with enviroments accoarding to said stereotypes. The colors heavily shifting to a darker shade just makes zero sense, unless it's some sort of a crysis where darker colored people had to escape from their homelands.

I wanted to write blue instead of "dark", which is also connected to the generic fantasy "dark elf" stereotype, that they can have blue skin color. Also their skins are blue/purple because of magical shadowy forests and not just living in the shadows like the pale "dark elves" seen in some other game worlds such as Warhammer.
Night elves were originally from Warhammer's old 80's editions before the big shakedown of 2nd ed where they were remade into the well known sickfricks we all known led by malekith

You can easily draw something with a style and then make its model look completely different.
Early WoW had the ability to capture the artwork almost perfectly by itself, it didn't feel the need to look realer or more realistic or necessarily "beyond" the style. You had cartoony hats that looked like exactly like they came from a Hammerfall album cover, and in current WoW they just kind of look like plastic relatively speaking.

The Reforged Models are fine tbh.
The only big issue with them is that they were going for designs that fit WoW's artstyle, but instead of going the cartoony look of, WC1, WC2, WC3 and WoW gameplay. They decided to go the realistic colouring/texturing of the cinematics.
It's why it clashes so much, because they didn't fully commit to this look as originally planned during Blizzcon
