For any issues Rockstar has, they certainly don't do a bad job with polish and attention to detail, they outdo most, if not all other big companies in that regard.

It could however be a great sci-fi space game without it if it had the best story and best quests you have ever experienced, but it doesn't have that. The single missing mechanic doesn't dictate whether the game is good. VtMB has basically no mechanics that actually hurt you because you are specifically a vampire (sunlight, fire, stakes), it's not a lesser game because of it.

Earlier versions of Red Dead 2 has stew physics, the food would naturally be moving around in your bowl as you walked around with it, this was later patched out and it sucks. It looked great, but I guess it was one of those silent patches for performance. Sadly not even PC has stew physics.
