I know it's hard to believe but Arkham Asylum's combat was totally unique at the time. Rocksteady released a pretty groundbreaking game at the time. Spider-Man is still just a remake of Spider Man 2 on the PS2 with updated ubislop mechanics. Insomniac have always been really competent but never make anything I could see getting critics really excited about.

in arkham you have to press one extra button to actually do damage after a counter. and then in later games being able to quickfire like 8 gadgets in the middle of combat without needing the wheel is really fun
