A lot of these boomers got their foot in the door because of nepotism or some other trash. It's like Ghostcrawler somehow got to helm WoW and Riot for decades despite being a consummate failure, absolute moron, and having no previous experience in anything technology related. They literally fall upwards after a while because they have too much pull to be replaced without a happening or being a sex pest.
Todd the game felt the exact same as Skyrim from 2011. Same dated combat, kill, loot, repeat with surface level rpg mechanics and loading screens. I'm honestly looking forward to Elder scrolls 6 because Starfield exposed them badly. Also why did they decided to wait 13 years to make a sequel to their most critically alicamed game?
Every single review and video I've seen about this contains "It's Skyrim in space" and/or "The combat is just fallout 4" shut the frick UP Todd.
No, it was much worse than Skyrim in most things
Worse characters, worse quests, boring as shit and with mandatory immersion breaking loading screens literally fricking everywhere
Imagine skyrim with 2 separate loading screens and unskipable cutscene every time you enter new instance
>with mandatory immersion breaking loading screens literally fricking everywhere
How's this a complain when Bethesda's games have always had tons of them? Besides, aren't they very short thanks to the SSD?
>Besides, aren't they very short thanks to the SSD?
No. There's a minimum because the "Creation Engine" (Gamebryo re-written with sloppy as frick code) forces the asset pipeline to stagger building the level and populating it so that it doesn't abruptly crash.
It still makes me laugh that people praise Bethesda for shit like trains being an npc with running around with a train on their head. That's not clever problem solving. That's a sign that your fricking engine is a mess if it can't do such a basic fricking task as making what is effectively a ridable platform. The same problems have existed in their games for week over a decade at this point and have only gotten worse as they give less and less of a shit about optimization with each game and still, nobody seems to have caught on that it will never change.
Yeah Skyrim was better than Starfield and Fallout 4. For example the skill tree system wasn't perfect in Skyrim but it was at least engaging to level up your individual stats. Exploring the world for perks and better gear was fun. Fallout 4 and Starfield perk system is absolute trash it's not satisfying to level up or even dive deep into the skill trees. Would touch on the other points but Bethesda has regressed pretty hard on every aspect of their games. Elder Scrolls 6 still gonna have loading screens everywhere
Fallout 4 was still way better than Starfield because it still nailed the open world exploration like their other games did. Removing decent exploration from Starfield was a terrible decision. There's actually nothing there when you do that.
In starfield skills are either useless, boring stuff like +damage or you need to drop 4 points to ungate something you should have just had from the start or should be only dependant on an item alone
It wasn't nearly as good as Skyrim. It was Skyrim with way worse quests and the open world replaced with Daggerfall's open world (AKA replaced with empty space).
>Every single review and video I've seen about this contains "It's Skyrim in space"
That just means reviewer is a midwit, because Skyrim in space would be 10 times better than Starfield.
Those reviews are moronic then because the game isn't enough like their past games.
Todd is right but it's nothing to be proud of, they could try radical new things without throwing the baby out with the bathwater
he's right in a way
if it was skyrim 2 or fallout 4 2 people would have liked it because it's the brand they like
the problem was they changed the brand too much when making the same game
No moron, it's just that the redeeming features of Bethesda games (immersion, sens of scale, intriguing lore and rewarding exploration) just aren't there. That is what they used to excel in and made them succeed despite shitty combat, mediocre story/dialogues, bugs and the other stuff a few orthodox D&D gays complain about
They took a risk for their vision and people disliked it and that's fine. I'd rather developers innovate and try new things that release the same DEI slop over and over again.
There was no risk.
It is literally one of the safest games ever created, it was so safe they actually removed aspects of previous games that people enjoyed.
You're right anon, but unfortunately nu-gamers literally cannot recognize game design anymore. Literally the entire discourse of any game is firmly rooted in the narrative and by "risky" they usually mean some story twist that 12 mainstream movies and tv shows did already. Gaming has been lost to the midwit storygays. It it truly over.
Its hated because there is no exploration. Thats the main reason. People never played those games for the weak story, the flat dumbed down systems, the average at best combat.
How the frick dont even the devs know what the biggest strength of all those games is?
It wasn't "too different", it was bland corposlop with worse gameplay than FO4 - they already had the mechanics, just had to incorporate them to a new engine, didn't even have to refine them. Bethesda couldn't even do that - one of the biggest companies in the industry can't code for shit.
9 years & 200 million my ass, they dropped the bottle hard on that one & deserve to bleed money. After the Fallout update they can go frickin bankrupt for all I care, pissing on a decades' worth of work by modders.
They sould have never done that moronic whole universe but random empty fields bullshit. A few handcrafted periphery planets is all they would have needed.
I think they should have ditched every new system they added the ships aren't interesting, the base building has no purpose, the procedural planets aren't worth touching at all.
They really should have just had all travel be via something like stargates and 10 somewhat interesting planets would have been adequate
Even fallout is shit. Bethesda is the Midas of shit. Fallout games made by Bethesda makes absolutely no sense, they’re supposed to take place a couple of centuries after a nuclear holocaust and yet the games feel like the apocalypse happened a few decades prior at most.
I’d go as far as saying that Breath of the Wild does a much better job at depicting a world 100 years after an apocalyptic event.
>watch the update announcement >it's all menial inconsequential shit that modders would do for older Bethesda games in a month >the first feature they show is a FRICKING MAP >bethesdadrones are creaming their pants in the comments
I dont get it either, Starfield is already a great game and the existing map was perfectly serviceable, why did people demand a freaking map of this detail for?
Really?
Damn and I reckoned it's because it was shit.
Thanks Todd, for setting me straight. You're the best game developer around and a great guy overall.
Here's how Starfield could have been much better; >set in a single star system >space flight actually has a purpose, more like elite instead of having a small area that you have to fast travel between >rather than showing a cutscene when transitioning between planet <-> space, keep the ship interior loaded, and unload / load the exterior so it's feels seamless >add option for ship to autopilot itself, so you can walk around whilst you're traveling between planets >don't add starborn shit, if you're going for a grounded sci-fi world, stick to it
They don't ever acknowledge they were wrong lol.
Corporations are the biggest hypocrites, never trust their views on politics, its all about the money.
I hate this as a reason because it's bullshit. It's not different at all. It's skill system and loot systems are stripped right from everything wrong with fallout 4 and the magic space powers are just infinitely worse dragon shouts. The only thing different was the Sci fi setting which isn't even that aggressively different.
Anybody that still has hope for TES VI is huffing copium so fricking hard they're going to get the bends from it. It's clear that Bethesda has learned jack fricking shit from this experience.
>it was just too le different!! >Dont mind the goyslop/globohomosexual forced diversity/everyone has to be an ugly mutt aesthetic built into the game >this our future!! >it's ma'am!
No it wasn't, it was the same exact shit they've been releasing for the past 20 years, only this time it was set in an extremely boring world rather than a cool fantasy or post-apocolyptic setting. They should have gone the sci-fi route rather than going for realistic barren planets.
>water down each new game with every release until it can barely be called an rpg >go so far that even normalgays start to catch on
You pushed it too far this time Todd.
Either make your game like Super Mario Galaxy with tiny planetoids, or constrain it to a single system like Star Fox 64. The only way we'd have a bevy of interesting planets would require a game 100 petabytes in size.
>it was so shit even people accustomed to usual Bethesda shit were not happy
I forgot I wasn't playing fallout a few times in some of the short sections where you can avoid constantly fast traveling
The games so shit even modders gave up on it.
Didn't Todd just walk up to Bethesda studios and start harassing them for a job and get one? That's impossible nowadays right?
A lot of these boomers got their foot in the door because of nepotism or some other trash. It's like Ghostcrawler somehow got to helm WoW and Riot for decades despite being a consummate failure, absolute moron, and having no previous experience in anything technology related. They literally fall upwards after a while because they have too much pull to be replaced without a happening or being a sex pest.
Couldn't have been anything else!
all the rocks spaced evenly makes it even funnier
a real mystery why they didn't want to show the maps on launch
Is that really a map of a planet's surface? Hoholy shit
so this....... is the power............ of procedural generation........
Todd the game felt the exact same as Skyrim from 2011. Same dated combat, kill, loot, repeat with surface level rpg mechanics and loading screens. How's this a complain when Bethesda's games have always had tons of them? Besides, aren't they very short thanks to the SSD?
No because they are often chained together requiring multiple clicks on the map between loading
>Besides, aren't they very short thanks to the SSD?
No. There's a minimum because the "Creation Engine" (Gamebryo re-written with sloppy as frick code) forces the asset pipeline to stagger building the level and populating it so that it doesn't abruptly crash.

moron Black personfhomosexual, you can play in Skyrim overworld for hours with only a couple of loading screens for dungeouns
Yeah Skyrim was better than Starfield and Fallout 4. For example the skill tree system wasn't perfect in Skyrim but it was at least engaging to level up your individual stats. Skyrim in space would imply you can explore in space, which would actually be pretty cool
he's right in a way
if it was skyrim 2 or fallout 4 2 people would have liked it because it's the brand they like
the problem was they changed the brand too much when making the same game
it is fallout 4-2 but in space, that is the problem, the horrible direction Bethesda took during making fallout 4
No moron, it's just that the redeeming features of Bethesda games (immersion, sens of scale, intriguing lore and rewarding exploration) just aren't there. They took a risk for their vision and people disliked it and that's fine. I'd rather developers innovate and try new things that release the same DEI slop over and over again.
Starfield wasn't particularly progressive in the grand scheme of things but it was progressive nonetheless
There was no risk, they are just moronic and incompetent. Starfield is the most bland, safe, unremarkable and sterile game I played in years.
>same DEI slop
Anon what do you think this game was?
>innovate
there was literally nothing innovative about Starfield
There was no risk.
It is literally one of the safest games ever created, it was so safe they actually removed aspects of previous games that people enjoyed.
>starfield
>not DEI slop
Nice bait.
They didn't take near enough risks. Not a single character in this game is memorable.
quick tell me ONE innovated feature that Starfield CREATED form scratch
Bethesda has never been innovative.
You're right anon, but unfortunately nu-gamers literally cannot recognize game design anymore. Literally the entire discourse of any game is firmly rooted in the narrative and by "risky" they usually mean some story twist that 12 mainstream movies and tv shows did already. jesus I feel kinda bad that I didn't like star field now. It feels like a break-up. I'm sorry Todd...
Its hated because there is no exploration. Thats the main reason. People never played those games for the weak story, the flat dumbed down systems, the average at best combat.
How the frick dont even the devs know what the biggest strength of all those games is?
>it was too different
moronic cope, the problem was that it had nothing different.

You don't actually know anything about this company, do you?
They sould have never done that moronic whole universe but random empty fields bullshit. A few handcrafted periphery planets is all they would have needed.
I think they should have ditched every new system they added the ships aren't interesting, the base building has no purpose, the procedural planets aren't worth touching at all.

This is so moronic.
In japanse media
>50 years after ww3 and the atomic destruction of Tokyo, we now have Neo Tokyo 3, its half underground and half in space
bethesda
>200 years after nuclear war we live in shacks and everything is dirty and there is no system of governance, even in areas were no bombs fell
It's just Fallout 4 if it was less shit

Less complete than usual.
Really?
Damn and I reckoned it's because it was shit.
Thanks Todd, for setting me straight. You're the best game developer around and a great guy overall.
Have no hope for Elder Scrolls 6. Its going to be garbage.
What went right/wrong with Starfield? I haven't played it.
Here's how Starfield could have been much better;
>set in a single star system
>space flight actually has a purpose, more like elite instead of having a small area that you have to fast travel between

Yep we can tell.
Correct
Where were all these companies after it was found out all of them were promoting an actual scam?
An obvious scam for anyone with a brain.
They don't ever acknowledge they were wrong lol.
Corporations are the biggest hypocrites, never trust their views on politics, its all about the money.
very true, their passion for "justice" is quite shallow
Change different into worse you almost got it todd!

Just make it decent enough to mod like Skyrim at least
It was it wasn’t forced no esg
>it was just too le different!!
>Dont mind the goyslop/globohomosexual forced diversity/everyone has to be an ugly mutt aesthetic built into the game
>this our future!!
>it's ma'am!
I mean... I suppose that's one way of putting it.
How about making TESVI instead of shit nobody asked for, Dumbb Frickard?
theyre incapable of learning
Don't post that wienersucking homosexual vermin on my Ganker.
No it wasn't, it was the same exact shit they've been releasing for the past 20 years, only this time it was set in an extremely boring world rather than a cool fantasy or post-apocolyptic setting. They should have gone the sci-fi route rather than going for realistic barren planets.
