Anders with his "woe is me I'm a victimized mage" he is mixed with a ghost but functionally it changes nothing, there's really nothing going on beyond him being butthurt about being mistreated, same goes for the elf, the slave & isabela, the mistreated woman. A pretty fun adventure with writing that varies between cringe shit and cool shit but is mostly just serviceable. I recommend just killing off any party member that you aren't going to keep in your party the entire time.

In general, it conforms with the standards of a great cRPG. Admittedly, cRPGs aren't for everyone, but the sleek presentation will get most people over that hurdle.
Branching dialogue, multi-path questlines, fun companion personalities, party interaction, varied character and party builds, tactical combat with lots of viable approaches, hand-crafted loot. All that good CRPG stuff, but also with top notch production values and very large game scope.

The game is exceptional because it occupies the unique position of being *both* a cRPG *and* possessing excellent presentation due to high production values.
RPGs are simulations whose object is the acting out of specific fantasy roles that are archetypal to specific fantasy worlds. Due to the in principle limitless nature of these simulations, a compromise must be made between the level of abstraction of any given simulation and the level of detail of said simulation.
On one end of the spectrum are ttRPGs, which provide highly detailed simulations at the cost of abstraction. On the other end are first-person aRPGs, such as Elder Scrolls, which provide highly concrete simulations at the cost of detail. Somewhere in the middle are cRPGs.
Despite BG3 being a cRPG, it is able to present an unprecedentedly highly concrete simulation due to its unprecedentedly high production values. In other words, although not as detailed a simulation as ttRPGs, or as concrete a simulation as first-person aRPGs, BG3 is presents a simulation that is both more concrete than cRPGs and more detailed than aRPGs. The result is in exceptional RPG experience.

They are yes. Those are basically the main difference makers that caused BG3 to break through. That and having a very bombastic storyline and loud characters that tend to have instant appeal.
the game normally caps you at Level 12, but i recommend installing the mod that unlocks Levels 13-20 as long as you don't take more than 12 levels in any one class. i've seen a lot of people mention their interest falling off a bit in Act 3, but i imagine a lot of that is because you can hit Level cap shortly after getting there, and after you hit Level cap, your character is pretty much full build. i've done nearly every quest in Act 3 and i'm still having a blast cause i'm LV15 and still growing. my personal rule for balance purposes though is that everyone *except* Tav obeys the regular level cap and doesn't surpass LV12. i'd highly recommend it, it's a lot of fun.
if you play any sort of magic user, check out the Scarlet Warloci mod too. it adds extra versions of Eldritch Blast to the game in different colors/elements and with an optional elemental damage add-on. my Fighter/Sorcerer knows a Lightning Eldritch Blast and a Radiant Eldritch Blast. cause Ray of Frost and Lightning Whip are ass. lol
each Eldritch Blast has appropriate particle FX for its element as well, so the Lightning one fires Lightning, instead of a light blue Eldritch Blast beam. the first versions of this mod just recolored the beam, but as it's been iterated upon each Blast has been given its own effects. it's genuinely become a "can't play without it" more for me now. i used to have to use my imagination to get a lightning Eldritch Blast. lol
I tried installing mods literally earlier today, there's a cool drake warden mod that's pretty in depth. Unfortunately, it requires a script extender and patch 6 broke it so I'm waiting for the fix so I can actually play it.
the script extender might be fixed. the guy who works on it barely ever updates the github cause he's set up the SE to auto-update through the mod manager. but you do make a great point, Larian did just update the game and break a bunch of mods so it may be best to save my suggestions for next week. i can't say for sure what's working and what isn't cause i've been waiting till Saturday to check and see if everything i use is updated and working again. i usually give everyone about a week after a big Patch to publish updates. it appears the new kissing animations added this patch mean pretty much all the custom head mods need to be updated to support the new anims too.
well, I put the script extender .dll in the bin folder and it said it wasn't there, so either I'm doing something wrong (very likely) it still ain't working. Hope it gets fixed soon, I want to be a Drake Warden
i might be too stoned to give detailed instructions, but if you install the script extender to the correct location it'll show you in the Mod Manager what version you have installed. there should be a little icon out to the right of the name of any mod in your load order that requires the SE, if you hover over that icon it should display what version you have installed and what version the mod you're hovering over requires.
since not every mod needs to be updated each time the script extender is updated, many mods will say "requires *at least* Script Extender version X.YZ" instead of saying they require the absolute newest version. but if you get a mod that says it's been updated for Patch 7 and that requires the SE, you can hover over its icon in the mod manager to get a better idea of if you have the newest SE update or not. cause mods that've been updated for Patch 7 are more likely to require the newest version of SE.

New patch introduced vendor lag on multiplayer. Game devours my potato pc If I try to play online. Desynchs, crashes and If im hosting, long load times. Game runs smoothly on single player though. Still no shortcut to pickup as wares or click add to wares like in dos2. A New fruit salad of bugs pops up every time a New patch drops. Everything dies to a trap corridor because of Dumbo AI. I still can peek breasts whenever a character loads inventory. Honour mode ansur a c**t that almost Tpk'd me. Lower city still should be split or they should bump the minimum Spec requirement to something that can handle that shit because only one map being a massive resource hog while the rest of the game is split into cells is fricking chunk ass moronic, regardless of specs. Triggering a reaction prompt with an open menu multiplayer to swap character owners is a soft lock because both menu and multiplayer menu starts looping forever. Pick pocket is even easier now that npcs nove around trying to find you inside a cloud but they can't because they're blind. Thief still the hard carry by stealing the entire game's resources for free each hour lvl up ir long rest. >Nerfing martials in DnD

Rig the combat dice in your favor with bless/elevation/knock downs. I've seen a playthrough where they beat the game on honor mode with no items and no equipment.

The game is exceptional because it occupies the unique position of being *both* a cRPG *and* possessing excellent presentation due to high production values.
RPGs are simulations whose object is the acting out of specific fantasy roles that are archetypal to specific fantasy worlds. the game normally caps you at Level 12, but i recommend installing the mod that unlocks Levels 13-20 as long as you don't take more than 12 levels in any one class. i've seen a lot of people mention their interest falling off a bit in Act 3, but i imagine a lot of that is because you can hit Level cap shortly after getting there, and after you hit Level cap, your character is pretty much full build. i've done nearly every quest in Act 3 and i'm still having a blast cause i'm LV15 and still growing. my personal rule for balance purposes though is that everyone *except* Tav obeys the regular level cap and doesn't surpass LV12. i'd highly recommend it, it's a lot of fun.
if you play any sort of magic user, check out the Scarlet Warloci mod too. it adds extra versions of Eldritch Blast to the game in different colors/elements and with an optional elemental damage add-on. my Fighter/Sorcerer knows a Lightning Eldritch Blast and a Radiant Eldritch Blast. cause Ray of Frost and Lightning Whip are ass. lol
each Eldritch Blast has appropriate particle FX for its element as well, so the Lightning one fires Lightning, instead of a light blue Eldritch Blast beam. the first versions of this mod just recolored the beam, but as it's been iterated upon each Blast has been given its own effects. it's genuinely become a "can't play without it" more for me now. i used to have to use my imagination to get a lightning Eldritch Blast. lol
I tried installing mods literally earlier today, there's a cool drake warden mod that's pretty in depth. Unfortunately, it requires a script extender and patch 6 broke it so I'm waiting for the fix so I can actually play it.
the script extender might be fixed. the guy who works on it barely ever updates the github cause he's set up the SE to auto-update through the mod manager. but you do make a great point, Larian did just update the game and break a bunch of mods so it may be best to save my suggestions for next week. i can't say for sure what's working and what isn't cause i've been waiting till Saturday to check and see if everything i use is updated and working again. i usually give everyone about a week after a big Patch to publish updates. it appears the new kissing animations added this patch mean pretty much all the custom head mods need to be updated to support the new anims too.
well, I put the script extender .dll in the bin folder and it said it wasn't there, so either I'm doing something wrong (very likely) it still ain't working. Hope it gets fixed soon, I want to be a Drake Warden
i might be too stoned to give detailed instructions, but if you install the script extender to the correct location it'll show you in the Mod Manager what version you have installed. there should be a little icon out to the right of the name of any mod in your load order that requires the SE, if you hover over that icon it should display what version you have installed and what version the mod you're hovering over requires.
since not every mod needs to be updated each time the script extender is updated, many mods will say "requires *at least* Script Extender version X.YZ" instead of saying they require the absolute newest version. but if you get a mod that says it's been updated for Patch 7 and that requires the SE, you can hover over its icon in the mod manager to get a better idea of if you have the newest SE update or not. cause mods that've been updated for Patch 7 are more likely to require the newest version of SE.

New patch introduced vendor lag on multiplayer. Game devours my potato pc If I try to play online. Desynchs, crashes and If im hosting, long load times. Game runs smoothly on single player though. Still no shortcut to pickup as wares or click add to wares like in dos2. A New fruit salad of bugs pops up every time a New patch drops. Everything dies to a trap corridor because of Dumbo AI. I still can peek breasts whenever a character loads inventory. Honour mode ansur a c**t that almost Tpk'd me. Lower city still should be split or they should bump the minimum Spec requirement to something that can handle that shit because only one map being a massive resource hog while the rest of the game is split into cells is fricking chunk ass moronic, regardless of specs. Triggering a reaction prompt with an open menu multiplayer to swap character owners is a soft lock because both menu and multiplayer menu starts looping forever. Pick pocket is even easier now that npcs nove around trying to find you inside a cloud but they can't because they're blind. Thief still the hard carry by stealing the entire game's resources for free each hour lvl up ir long rest.

A decent enough RPG that really shouldn't have been a Baldur's Gate game. It feels closer to Dragon Age, to me personally, and I feel it messes up the vibe of the first two games. Also their treatment of the past games lore didn't sit right with me.
