Okay Ganker, convince me why this game is good or shit without bringing up the story, gimmicks, or characters. Mechanically how is this game better or worse than everything that came before or afterwards?

No.
I’m pretty sure he’s talking about things like balance, difficulty curve, etc., dumbass
And? Are you going to tell me this game is well-balanced?
Now that I think about it, this was probably the last FE game that was balanced at all. Everything after fates is all over the place and relies on turn rewinding as a bandaid for the lack of balance.
Gimmicks are part of the mechanics you moron

It's the best
Map design, enemy placement, and enemy skill distribution make this the one Fire Emblem that requires the use of strategy.
Its nice, honetly i dont understand why Ganker hate them. I'm not a fan of the franchise anyway
If you only care about gameplay than ignoring story and characters is fine, but gimmicks are part of gameplay.
Does "stand on tile to deploy bridge" count as a gimmick?
Gimmicks generally refers to an action being the focus of the level that distracts from the core gameplay instead of a peripheral element in the game used to add some variety
Let me post the reason.
If you've heard anything positive about this game on Ganker, it's absolute shit. I haven't noticed any threads about it so that's a good sign.
Also never listen to Ganker which also includes me.
I don't get why gimmicks are bad. It forces you to look for new solutions and take a different approach than you do in other maps.
mechanically it's a beautiful mess. there's a lot of good ideas, good ideas with poor execution and bad ideas. but the result is such a different experience from the usual FE-fare that's not afraid to bust your balls in a mostly fair way unlike, say, reverse lunatic FE12 or the joke lunatic+ in Awakening. I think it's worth playing for the depth attack stance adds and it's sad that 3H moved away from that mechanic.
I like the story
don't lie
You'd be the one who lying if you said the game didn't hit you in the feels when you watch this scene after you finished Conquest. No game with bad story can do that
bait
there's a couple of gimmick maps but most are great. hard is the perfect difficulty. interesting encounters that almost feel like a puzzle at times. just enough wiggle room to customize your team and their classes/abilities, where you're rewarded for knowing how to balance short-term and long-term planning (battle-to-battle tactics as well as strategic concerns around character progression). can sometimes feel a bit solved/limiting but on the whole it's one of, if not the most tightly-designed fe.
It's not good
it's the best fire emblem and it legitimately isn't even close
