Okay, real talk, not baiting. You can't just look at this and tell me with a straight face they're not going out of their way to make female characters ugly. It's not a conspiracy theory, you just need eyes to see it all over Western games. It's clearly an actual effort they purposely put in, if you look at the models they capture or concept art in countless cases. I find the hypothesis that one main driving force is unironically female staff's attempt at competition threat reduction whilst passing it off as realism very compelling.

Ofcourse they are. These are digital characters not actual flesh and blood people. It means someone had to create that model. They literally had the choice to make it an atractive model or an ugly one and they obviously choose the ugly one. It's not even a matter of putting more or less effort in, because they literally had to go out of their way to make that freakish thing.

For some studios it probably is virtue signaling to investors and Twitter, but it is a valid art direction for creating a believable world. Making attractive female characters runs 2 risks:
1: women are intimidated by it, and therefore offended by it. This then constitutes sexual harassment of women as a class.
2: female attractiveness that is not due to secondary sex characteristics is mostly due to neoteny. This means if you avoid prominent hips or breasts to avoid harassment accusations, you would fall foul of paedophilia accusations.
It is structurally impossible to create an attractive female character until we do not have Women In Gaming.
Women and men both like attractive characters, so why does this keep happening? Its like they've confused ugliness for realism.

The idea is to lower the standards for female beauty so far hags with bad personalities can meme Chad into dating them. We are actually just re approaching the uncanny valley era of "realistic" graphics once again.
Things that we didn't notice before, like subsurface scattering, wrinkles, dynamic blood flow (for face and skin flushing) as well as texture resolution/depth actually start to matter and consoles aren't fast enough to keep up. If they made the graphics more stylized to cover up the seams and edges on their realistic models, like in the Arkham games, they could fix it.
The only company that actually doesn't frick this up is >Naughty Dog.

I think that's less a part of it than devs' inability to translate human faces to rigged models. Every game with realistic faces looks uncanny valley as frick, all the way down to shit like death stranding. The other part is definitely ugly/trans women self-insert shit, but MJ is just as insufferable as ever in this game so I don't see where the victory is.
