Not the same thing. It's more equivilant to a Smash tournament building your custom character's skills and alt moveset for you as you come into the tournament. Sounds silly there too. If you have a team planned then you should be able to build it too.

But then again, how would that square with the other aspects of the game? Maybe tournaments are in fact about those aspects and not just battling?
