I think people in general overestimate how much main story is still left after Meteor is summoned, probably due to being distracted by all the new side-content that opens up at that point. In comparison the first Midgar portion was mostly main story content except for tutorials and Honey Bee Inn and thus often underestimated.
In that regard part 2 does almost too much already, unless part 3 will give the "new content" more spotlight to fill the gaps.

Sure, the majority now thinks it's Sephiroth, based on good evidence, but there are still arguments in favor of Jenova like Sephiroth already being a changed man due to Jenova's influence and this changed man being in control arguably means that Jenova is "more" in control.
Now compare that to FFVIIR with all this whining and crying about being "convoluted" and whatnot, but in reality it's just people giving up on thinking for themselves and demanding to be spoonfed by others instead. FFVIIR being "confusing" is not much different from how FFVII was on initial release, except that FFVIIR is only the first part of a trilogy, and thus obviously even more "incomplete", as is to be expected.

Off the top of my head from not having played it but seen some looks, Zack actually handles decently and can animation cancel out of attacks, compared to his utterly clunky ass "stuck in place" shit of the original, plus he has combos. Bosses with the unavoidable shit can also be weakened to reduce the damage or even break them out of their shit, and your rolls have actual i-frames for most other shit now so it's not functionally useless beyond making space. There was a lot of other stuff but I can't remember off the top of my head.
The game plays more like 7Remake now which is a godsend because CC original gameplay was so slow and clunky. They added for Zack to be able to run which makes things faster. They actually made it where the DMV doesn't interrupt gameplay, it's all in the background which is orgasmic because in the original EVERY FRICKING TIME the DMV activated it completely stops gameplay.

Honestly VII Remake probably took so long because of the CC2 version getting canned partly, and the big swap to Unreal Engine. Now that was, what, 3 years ago, almost 4 by the time Rebirth releases, so that's still a lot of dev time for a game and everything (plus that whole Intergrade shit the following year that probably took dev time). But with an engine in place, a solid combat system worked out that they're now adding onto instead of trying to reinvent, and other shit, yeah it looks a lot better. Hell, it looks plain better than Remake did in terms of fun factor even.
My big concern now is just what shit is gonna be padded out, because we're functionally going from the outskirts of Midgar to about the Forgotten Capital at the Temple of the Ancients judging by the interview. Zack's subplot gives reason to recycle Midgar shit, but we're functionally playing the entire first disc of VII past Midgar and I have to wonder if this is gonna get fricky or what.

Holy manages to activate because Aerith died far too soon and managed use the white materia early before Sephiroth could put a stopper on her, so the world gets saved unexpectedly easy, but at what price? Main cast is dead, Cloud becomes a reunion Zombie and only Zack is left.

No idea what that "problem" of his might be though. Maybe the lifestream just ceases to function under his rule, and ends up as a god of an empty wasteland...

Holy gets blocked but in a desperate attempt Cloud and Shinra team up to redirect the power of the lifestream to heal wound from meteor to all the mako reactors and release it into the atmosphere, thus they prevent Sephiroth's plan, but in turn the whole world is filled with overflowing mako energy that's like nuclear fallout to many, along with the huge abyss created by the unhealed meteor impact. And this is also the remake universe that we have played through so far.

The problem FF has is expectations are incredibly high for the games, they cost a frickton of money to make compared to shit ilke god of war or something. Making a full blown rpg, with amazing story, top class visuals etc is insanely difficult and expensive.

This is clearly satire. Every previous FF game cost less than GoW to make.
The reality is that nobody asked for 40 hours of cutscenes, but they did it anyways. Previous FF games have 5-12 hours of cutscenes. They wasted their time giving us a worthless game that plays itself with an extra long movie to watch, instead of a game that tells its story through your gameplay. Then they made the game too fricking long, so now you get this massive flop that you can't replay since there's nothing to do but skip cutscenes.
People are perfectly fine with 40+ hours of cutscenes, just look at BG3 or TW3. The problem is that XVI has 20 hours of absolutely AWFUL cutscenes where the game just drones on about muh bearers or tells you to bring 5 flowers/jars/rocks to some literally who #4825. Nobody sane wants to watch that.

These games play nothing like JRPGs or like any FF game. Both BG3 and TW3 are open world(ish) choice driven role playing games. These cutscenes aren't just you sitting there doing nothing, it's you making choices and decisions that affect the world, effect the ending. They are nothing like FF where your choice does not matter, you are only there to experience the story from beginning to end. Nobody is okay with 40 hours of cutscenes where you do nothing.

Nobody wants to sit down and watch the game play itself. Nobody would watch 40 hours of eikons fighting and 0 player control. Make a movie or TV series.
i didn't say 40 hours of Eikons fighting, i meant the level of quality of them and them being interesting ofc. and yes people absolutely would but it still needs to be proportionate to the gameplay and the gameplay should be good. 40 hours of scenes and 3h of gameplay is shit. FF games have had longer cutscenes than movies since the PS1 days but no one minds it because the scenes are good
I already said previous ff games had 5-12 hours of cutscenes. Those were enough. It's not about being longer than movies, it's about being more than necessary and taking away resources and money that could be spent on making the gameplay and story as good as possible.
XVI inflated its production cost because they made too many cutscenes, more than any other FF game (XI and XIV not included)
my point is just that XVI's issue was not cutscene length, it could've had even more scenes and be just fine. the issue is that its scenes sucked for the most part. most of it was just MMO tier filler shit

Not many people remember, but the 3rd disc in the OG is actually just the final dungeon, the Sephiroth fight and the ending FMVs in terms of new content.

Guess that all depends on how much stretching they do, it's not like the second disc was massive, it was most lyfilled with those FMVs of the weapons waking up.
And most of Disc 2 is just the Huge Materia filler. Like literal filler.
In the OG Disc two used lotsa same locations as in Disc one. Pretty much only new locations on Disc 2 were

Disc 3 is fricking tiny, it's only Disc 3 because of the sheer span of FMVs taking up so much space on the discs. Hell, most of the game data is already there from Disc 1, were it not for the videos you could probably fit all of FF7 on one disc. Part 3 of the remake trilogy is probably also going to be dealing with some original plot consequences of shit going horribly wrong, so they can kinda cook up a lot of new things.
Once Aerith dies, or fate gets subverted to make her not die, I expect the second half of the plot to drastically shift.

16 just lacked a soul. A grittier fantasy world without anime speak was a great idea. However, the way it was executed with no real party members, no job changing, super simple combat, constant fetch quests, two timeskips, the eikon fights being so shallow they make Platinum setpieces look good, no minigams, no memorable characters. I dunno, I don't a game that was in development for 7 years should've turned out that way.
