It's so bizarre how popular TR continues to be even as the quality nosedives. I've never been a big fan of the series but the original games had a unique identity and the first reboot series were at least competent. The latest reboot trilogy has just been unbearably boring and generic.

Nah. Lara continued being popular while she was still getting good games, because her games were legitimately great and not just a fad. The reason the games died out was because the publisher forced the devs onto a yearly release schedule which resulted in worse and worse quality starting with TR4, until they had a Sonic '06 moment with Angel of Darkness being released literally unfinished, at which point the series fell victim to the fate of all genuinely fantastic western games: being shuffled from publisher to publisher and developer to developer because Western game companies do not understand that staff retention is how you keep a series from turning to complete and utter shite.
People make fun of the lower-poly renders for being "outdated", but I personally think the old models reflect the cool, comic-book-esque look Lara looks best in. LAU and other later designs just don't have the same appeal.
