>one of the best selling game series on the GBA
>consistently won awards every year (at least in Japan, idk about elsewhere)
>spawned a popular anime that ran for multiple seasons and a best selling line of toys
And yet, this series is largely forgotten. I'm excited for the upcoming collection, I hope this games get more love.
DMT Has Friends For Me Shirt $21.68 |
do we ever ask ourselves why we want more? we know what it's going to lead to. remasters that are created to capitalize on the past that come with changes which are generally disliked. i feel like this shit ends up dividing us further. so much of these games are a "you had to be there" experience. i don't know why you want them to revisit the past again. we have what we have and obviously capcom is over it. hate to play devils advocate but i swear everytime something is dug from the grave and put back on display it feels like a cheap imitation that mocks the original intentions then the existing fanbase coagulates in all these fricked up ways.
This. I USED to want new games of my beloved forgotten series for years and years but with gaming how it is today I'd rather they just rest. And not be butchered.
I don't think this applies to every series. Mega Man, for example. I wanted a new game for years and years and then Capcom gave us Mega Man 11 and it was one of the best games in the entire franchise.
>Mega Man 11 was one of the best games in the entire franchise
That wasn't bait, I was being serious. If you disagree then oh well.
Considering Capcom sold us 2homosexual sequels by Inti Creates and every Mega Man hated 8 outside promotion, it's a breath of fresh air.
Never knew how much i missed being able to play a fully geared Mega Man.
>every Mega Man hated 8 outside promotion
I love 8
That doesn't sound cash money to Capcom.
>modern gaming is a cloud of MMOs, pay to play, rehashed sequels, childrens drivel, and boring AAA titles that play it safe
>we should keep quiet and let all the fun die out
there are fanbases which help revive classic, forgotten series' and give us new games that are a change from what is out there. there is nothing wrong with that
>we should keep quiet and let all the fun die out
>keep quiet
if you are a stinky old fart like i am i think we both understand this is just video games and it's really nothing that big at stake here. go out on the streets and scream megaman, get that campaign going, and share your moronic ideas on four chin.
i meant to add that the fun isn't dying out either. the fun was there. we were all there. you can always go back and return to the fun. the accessibility and options have never been larger than they are today. i'm not going to get behind digging graves to entertain myself. i can just visit the grave itself and respect the fact we had the time we had, maybe replay a title, but i'm not going to pull someone out once more to dance for me.
It also spawned a superior sequel with 3
Soulless trash. I hope everything Capcom does fails miserably until they give us MML3
At this point in time, I'd be fine with an OVA series commissioned by Capcom explaining the events that happened after MML2 drawn and and design by either:
>Tatsunoko Productions
>MAPPA
>TMS
>Toei
>Mushi production
>AKOM
Legends 3 was going to suck as soon as another roll looking b***h won another poll.
Piss off incel.
Cope. Capcom is going to go bankrupt and there's nothing you can do about it
Meiru was sex
Was the anime actually good? I know it was successful but I know nothing of its quality.
I really liked it at first, it was incredibly faithful to the games and its mechanics, too.
Then at some point with a new season they dropped everything and went full sentai, with Lan transforming into Mega Man sentai style. I couldn't believe my eyes and dropped the series there.
They had their concept, it was working, but they trashed all that to go full sentai mode.
I guess there just isn't never enough sentai in Japan.
Did he like merge with megaman or something? Because that would work if it was like how Digimon Tamers did it.
But it was already awful in Digimon Tamers and pure shit compared to Adventure
No clue why they keep doing this shit
>No clue why they keep doing this shit
Because it was a mechanic in the games that the anime is based on and important to the story. Are you moronic?
The games that sold 20k copies? I can't even recall pre Tamers-anime games that did that. Not to mention that what I said applies to those games as well, that's just not Digimon
Also calling people moronic over toddler merchandising just lets people know you are an antisocial psychopath with no functional life and now I pity you and I hate it when I feel this way so maybe work on that
I'm talking about Mega Man, not Digimon. Full Synchro was a mechanic in the games and a key element to the story so they brought it into the anime.
>But it was already awful in Digimon Tamers
But Tamers was the best series. It's why everyone wanted Konaka to come back for more. Either way Biomerge was an interesting concept in Tamers considering the premise of the series, and jesus frick was the concept handled a hell of a lot better than Frontier did.
Either way, my point was that Lann and Mega Man merging can work, it just has to be done well.
Adventure has more charm, gestalt and character depth (being edgy or whining for 30 episodes with almost no devolopment till final minute isn't depth) in its pinky despite not even trying to be some epic drama. More importantly it really is an adventure in the digi world, something all other seasons somehow forgot about except Frontier which instead thought it was a good idea to remove the digimons lol
There is a reason 1 gets eviscerated to this day, even if never doing justice to it and fricking up the ADVENTURE part somehow
Well that I completely disagree with, even if I really like Adventure. I think Tamers overall had the best writing and character development of its main trio. And everyone loves Nozawa's Guilmon.
>being edgy or whining for 30 episodes with almost no devolopment till final minute isn't depth
I don't know what show you're thinking about there but it wasn't Tamers, have you watched the japanese version recently?
>There is a reason 1 gets eviscerated to this day, even if never doing justice to it
Because it's the most popular and sold the best (or rather, it was the only one that sold well), that's really the only reason. Especially after the studio finally realized that unlike Pokemon, they're never going to capture the next generation of kids so they might as well go all-in on pandering to the now adults who grew up on the first few works. It's the whole reason CS/HM was a success even if they aren't particularly great games.
>except Frontier which instead thought it was a good idea to remove the digimons lol
Nta but that's the least of Frontier's problems. Giving the team digimon partners wouldn't change that a third of the show is the team just jobbing to the KR, and even before that point we had like 8 episodes in a row of jobbing to Grumblemon. And everyone not named Takuya and Koji became cheerleaders for them
I liked the anime, too. But I will NEVER understand fully why some episodes were never given the chance to air on US Airwaves. Also, why in the ever-loving frick haven't any fan groups even tried to make an effort at a more accurate and uncensored dub of NT Warrior/EXE. Also still waiting for at least a full dub, fanmade or not, of every SF1 anime episode! I'd download that and buy that on DVD or Blu-ray for sure!
>dub
Fricking why. Why care about dubs at this point
>he thinks that all dubs are 4kid or DIc-tier.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Except that these usually had better voice actor than what they're managing to shit now
Stuff may be more accurate now, but the usual quality is bad to average (with also usually 1 character that fricks it up so significantly it brings the whole thing down)
I hate how with dubs now you can tell the actors casts are starting to consist of people who grew up with cartoons in the 90's, and are doing an impersonation of that. It's all too incestuous somehow. I'd rather go back to the era of just calling in any old actor off the street, and basically winging it. That's more appealing to me.
I'm not sure if I'd go as far as to say that, also saying that all stuff back then was dubbed by any rando is wrong, but quality is indeed suffering but current dubfriends are pretty much the cause of their own issue right now
If you really want to know about the good dubs, ask someone who hates dubs
In a modern context From Software's games are a good example of a Japanese product with good English voice acting, and it's specifically because they approach actors, rather than approaching this clique of "anime voice actors" who make a living doing "anime voices", if you see what I mean.
Video games are actually currently in a whole other tier. Even Japanese video games. Other than some rare anime tier dubs like Xenoblade 2, or how they were during the PS1/PS2 gen and lower, they're actually generally pretty golden now
It's pretty much the US anime dub industry that has a massive problem, there's something wrong going on in the production and it's not getting fixed anytime soon as they're now shitting simuldubs
Do complete fandubs even exists? Outside of Team Four Stars kind of projects, they're usually shitty one offs that sounds terrible
How about Macross: DYRL fandub?
Never heard, but is there even 10 of these?
There is a completed fandub of the movie that I saw some years ago on Youtube.
No, what I'm asking is:
-Is there even a significant number of these?
-Are these even good?
-You realize the super robot fandom is massive, right?
tl;dr: You're not getting a (good) fandub (which are pretty much already not really a thing) of a mediocre adaptation of a side-game series that doesn't have a massive fanbase
It's just not happening
Ok, just one more question:
How many fandubs that came to full fruition is ENOUGH for you to be considered "significant", even?
Enough for them to actually get noticed, meaning they'll have to be good enough too
Consider that even seemingly impossible tasks like JRPG and Visual Novel games translation, games that requires a certain level of hacking prowess to make it work and probably has several books of dialogue to translate carefully, all of this for about a few hundreds autists. Consider that there's entire books (light novels), several of them fan translated per year.
All of this is incredibly niche, yet it somehow less demanding and manages to release more than several of these a year by fans
Now consider that the demand for Fandubs is nonexistent , anime fans already hates dubs as it is, and would require a pretty crazy amount of people working for free to make it work, extremely talented people at that
Meanwhile I have searched and I cannot one a single straight answer and a single completed work somehow. I have searched the cat site and since its new iteration there has been only a single page of fandubs, most being only single episodes releases with a small handful of movies at best, and a bunch of these are in French
Basically, planets would have to align under a lucky star for people to even begin fandubbing about 200 episodes of this forgotten series
tl;dr: It's really not happening dude
Okay you hate dubs. I get that now. I was talking mainly about fandubs, not funimation or Viz official company dubs.
That's called Full Synchro and it's in the games too.
Not the same thing at all.
Full Synchro is the operator having direct control of the Navi on the net.
In that season of the anime, it was Lan turning to Mega Man IRL, with all the combat and shit happening irl. It was basically Power Rangers, or any other cliché sentai stuff.
Nope. I wanted to like it, since I enjoyed the games, but no, it was really dumb and rewrote the frick out of all the characters and most plot points.
Star Force killed the series. The change in gameplay wasn't received well in Japan.
Starforce =/=BN frickhead.
there's a 200 year gap between the end of BN6 and the beginning of Starforce 1.
He has a point. Look how they destroyed the dk94/MvsDK series by turning it into a shitty lemmings clone
Sure, there's that, but we are not talking about Ninitendo IPs.
I was looking forward to the collection until I saw the price point. Capcom is fricking insane charging 60 dollars for a handful of GBA roms.
Sad thing is it'll still sell because people are desperate for their MMBN fix and nothing else scratches this extremely niche style of gameplay.
>60 dollars for a handful of GBA roms
It's not though. These are direct ports with improvements and extra features. These aren't emulated.
They're sourceports, not roms
I think it’s too far removed from the of series for most people to get into. Not like ff tactics which stemmed from an rpg base to begin with. Maybe if they changed the name but everybody still knew it took place in the mm universe.
thread theme
>best selling game series
the highest selling game in the series didn't even come close to 2 million
megaman 11 sold 1.6 million, this is recent numbers and it's a discounted title no less
And yet, this is one of the top-selling series on the GBA.
This was honestly one of my favorite video game series of the 2000s handheld or not. The battle system was so unique and fun to mess around with.
The pixel art was fantastic, It made exploring fun because I always wanted to see what was around the corner. Idk but I fricking loved seeing the 3-4 frame animations on TVs and computer screens.
Looking forward to playing online on the collection soon.
Is it okay to skip the first game or will I be entirely lost? I tried playing it and liked the concept, it has the foundation of a great game but they didn't quite nail it. I'm assuming the sequels improve massively.
>Is it okay to skip the first game or will I be entirely lost?
Wouldn't recommend it. They're pretty plot heavy games and you're expected to know what happened in all the previous games.
Frick this grid waggle crap, and frick command mission too. Yeah wow here's MEGAMAN, you get to fight WITH MENUS! EXCITING. Literally the worst MM platformer still stands MILES above any of these "games".
Being a contrarian doesn't make you an interesting person.
>X7, GB Classic II, Challenger from the Future and x5
>Better than all of the BN series (save for BCC and Legend of Network)
OK buddy moron.
>Better than all of the BN series
Yes. Here's another that's ALSO better than the gridwaggle crap.
HAHAHAHAHAHA NO! How so, ya c**tface Nog?
saying you fight using menus in BN is equally as moronic as saying you fight using menus in every MM platformer with a pause screen
>you fight using menus in every MM platformer with a pause screen
Never thought about it that way. You just have me a new perspective on life. Mega Man was an RPG all along!
Big fan of these games back in the day and over the last 2 years I replayed 2, 3, and 4 on an emulator.
>largely forgotten[citation needed]
It's forgotten because capcom hate megaman. Doesn't matter if it sold post 2011 was hell for the blue bomber thanks to you know who and boomers getting salty thus banning bomberman from being made. PERFECTLY SMART ECONOMICS FRICK BUYERS MONEY FRICK THE IP ALL BECAUSE SOME DUDE LEFT THE COMPANY. I swear Japanese companies and Japanese boomers are so fricking stupid and tech illiterate refusing to progresses holding the company back.
If capcom was not ran by not just Black folk but braindead DOUBLEBlack folk they would have made megaman.exe GO within a year pokeman GO came out. They wouldn't pull in billions but throw in waifus and shit it would make hundreds of millions maybe over a billion after 2-3 years for next to no dev cost 100X your money easily.
Srsly think about how based megaman GO would be shit would be so fun.
you're delusional if you think battle network has anywhere near the fan base Pokemon does
>If capcom was not ran by not just Black folk but braindead DOUBLEBlack folk they would have made megaman.exe GO within a year pokeman GO came out. They wouldn't pull in billions but throw in waifus and shit it would make hundreds of millions maybe over a billion after 2-3 years for next to no dev cost 100X your money easily.
I mean GO barely has any gameplay so it was probably for the best when it comes to people who want to play it that they waited and made XDive instead.
>And yet, this series is largely forgotten
there is (bad) clones floating around though and there will be more

>I'm excited for the upcoming collection
why would anybody
if they are not going to fix stuff then what's the point other than "buy our games again"
everybody that wanted them has them by now
