There's nothing fun about min/maxing tv/books so you can destroy 100's of church pews and double beds to slowly reach level 7 carpentry. The leveling system/crafting system doesn't make sense and is just not fun.

You're right. I have around 100 hours and have never gotten most skills past 3 lol, I've never used xp increases except for fast learner, I've missed out on a lot of stuff like mechanics electronics fishing etc because of the xp system...

I'm gonna try a 5x xp game now because of you and see how it goes, what do you think about zombie population?

            Anonymous

I would turn off respawn because it doesn't make sense for firemen zombies to magically come back to life after a set amount of time near the firestation again. Zombie migration is a better way of "respawning" zombies anyway since it takes zombies from other chunks and distribute them on and in nearby chunks. As for the zombie lore and population it's more of a taste thing I guess. I've usually left it pretty default for the most part, but next game I'll either increase zombie density or total population to high to make clearing out a town harder and to make the game more challenging. Infection settings are usually off but I might leave it on for a game and have some kind of cure mod or something to not make it a 100% certain death.

In the end it's up to you and what you think would be the most fun.

its possible but everything has to go perfectly and you need to work really fricking quick. even if you lock yourself on the second story of a house, there's no getting around the fact that you have to leave at some point for loot, you can wait out the initial shitstorm of 8 house alarms going off at once and the ball of death that comes with them but even then your time window to get out and find shit is extremely small.
good luck to you if you try it, its very fun and it'll change the way you play on every other difficulty

Making the game harder to that level makes it really fricking boring.
Same reason i turn off zombie disease from the game because it just becomes so un-fun, you dont want to do anything because 1 fricking scratch will kill you.
But the game devolves into moronic gameplay either way, you move into the woods and eat cabbages allday doing pushups
I dont think its a solvable issue without adding ACTUAL FRICKING CONTENT IN THE GAME LIKE npcs OR STORY

The whole survival and RPG experience is just meh anyways. Maybe it's because I just don't play with right mods or mindset or something, but it just feels like the systems don't draw enough out of each other to make me enjoy going around exploring, looting, etc. in the long term. It's pretty easy to just game your way out of dealing with zombies and such, and while something like enabling Sprinters can prevent that, it's a bandaid that addresses one facet in a cheap way that doesn't suddenly make the other bits more engaging

Even though the whole thing is about "here's how you die," I can't help but feel I'd much more enjoy completable challenge/adventure maps instead. While I decry the long term survival experience, the mechanics sure are fun in the short-term, and there's enough items available that you could set up some real fukken cool survival horror experiences with notes n' keys n' shit (if static items can be set)--with full co-op support too.

i would argue the worst thing is tied between moronic stunlock animations and too many nonsensical nag meters
    >mechanic becomes bored/sad taking apart cars under a roofed, clean, well-lit and secure garage stocked full of parts
    >burglar becomes bored/sad rummaging through houses or buildings full of loot
    >zombie crawling over a fence lunges and 'knocks you back' into a fullmoron U-turn spin instead of just sending you backward
actually mid-shitpost i realized fence zombies are the dumbest fricking thing in the game. that stupid fricking lunge push is by far the most lethal thing you'll ever encounter

      Anonymous

You're right about the fence zombies - that was a full moron, petty overcompensation by the devs after being insanely butthurt over people using fences to kill zombies. It's easy to miss, but that's why there's actually an option to turn those off completely, since they ARE objectively unfair garbage.

    >End every session in the bar, turn on the jukebox, start a fire and start blasting zomboids with the shotgun and hundreds of shells, seeing how long I can survive

Watching life and living at the start of the game is the most midwit thing ive seen people do. Go read books before you watch the shows even the level 1-2 book multiplies your experience gain by 3 times.
Also get the rebalanced fitness xp mod because it takes an entire year even with the most optimal setup to level it up to 10 and the devs are too moronic to change it into something reasonable.

      Anonymous

      >Watching life and living at the start of the game is the most midwit thing ive seen people do. Go read books before you watch the shows
you can do both at the same time but i'm not sure if the XP is reduced

        Anonymous

You need to read the book in its entirety to get the full XP multiplier. The less you've read it the smaller it becomes.

          Anonymous

i meant that i'm not sure if you get the same regular xp when you read books and watch tv shows at the same time. you get some xp from the show yes. but idk if it's less than only watching life and living without "distractions"

            Anonymous

You can do absolutely anything and still get the full XP as long as you are within certain range of the TV while its on (the XP range seems to be smaller than hearing range so you can still hear the show and see the text but not gain levels if you are too far)

            Anonymous

You dont get xp from reading books you moron, you get the multiplier for the xp you receive, the more the book is finished the bigger is the multiplier

              Anonymous

that's what i'm saying you stupid moron. you need to read the books to get the bonus xp from the shows right? well guess what. you can READ THE BOOKS WHEN YOU ARE WATCHING THE FIRST/SECOND SHOW AND APPARENTLY YOU GET THE SAME XP.
do the 2 things at the same time don't skip the first shows because you didn't get the bonus xp you shitter

learning the game is the fun part
if you aren't enjoying it now, you won't enjoy it later because it will become trivial except for the grindy and occasionally suffering a bullshit death because the combat system is fundamentally broken

        Anonymous

I'm enjoying it but not sure I'm doing it right as I always get b***hslapped by cumulated debuffs once water stops (bored, tired etc.)

          Anonymous

if the water is an actual issue, you can boil water in pots on a campfire to clean it until you can get water collectors set up
          >bored
vary your food intake, make more complex meals (should do this anyway; complicated meals get a bonus from cooking to hunger reduction)
go do stuff outside, like chopping trees
          read books or magazines
          kill a few zombies
          >tired
always try to sleep until you aren't tired anymore
try not to go beyond moderate exertion unless necessary
high exertion causes your tiredness gain rate from actions to rise A LOT
ideally you would want to stay below even moderate exertion
          walk more, don't run constantly
don't walk around with a heavy load
          don't drink alcohol unless necessary

what the devs are trying to do and the idea of the game are amazing
the actual result, the game itself, is pretty bad
