Jeritza also solos although it's probably not easier. Since too many people chose CF which was supposed to be harder to get, they had to add him as a crutch unit to get people to finish the game.

awakening specifically encourages soloing because robin never stops gaining exp and can reclass infinitely. fe8 is easy with seth but you probably want someone to cure him if he gets hit by a status staff, or warp him to kill a couple bosses more quickly. same in fe4, you probably want a bit of support vs status staves e.g. in chapter 10

You are right that it’s not a solo and I did use poorly trained characters quite a few times but at the end of the game I only had 2 units that id raised to a high level

Laguz should've been wiped out with the exception of the goldoans. I don't get it. They showed the Begnion army in the cutscene clashing with the laguz army's beasts and they just stay in a standstill, with neither getting an advantage. They're cute when they are first introduced but I quickly realize I don't want to take 50-80% of my health in incoming damage just to move an enemy. I say 50-80 because squishy sword users are the only way you're landing anything against an enemy on terrain.

You should always do smash attacks when you can, preferably down smash but forward smash and up smash are situationally good as well. Best way to play FE.
Make a silver greatlance for Luis and he can one shot a lot of stuff. It's also good for engage attacks since you don't have to worry about the counter-attack. Needs an engraving for more hit though.
Engage weapons and lugging one around on characters like Louis and Bunet who will never be fast. Meme utility on a Warrior + Fracture to practically OHKO Wyrms.
Smash weapons:
-break the enemy first
-attack fast bowgays
-use with Engage attacks
-if you can ORKO an enemy holding one, you can EP them without taking damage

None, they are all forgetable. FE4 and FE5 has some great characters but not a great cast of characters.
Anadron Saga, as an example to trigger some schizos, has a better cast because a larger portion of it is involved in the story. It doesn’t have to be the best story, but just the fact that other characters even have agency is enough to make it better. Iron Emblem also strangely works

Cast as in actual characters ? Path of Radiance. They are kinda basic but I like them that way.
Cast as in units/statblocks ? Sword of Seals/Binding Blade. I'll always have fond memories of wanting to use Lugh, Lilina and Hugh at the same time during my first playthrough because of their wildly different stats despite sharing the same class.

I see where you are coming from but having played it I never felt like it truly ever rose above the standard FE fare having a mix of good, bad and forgettable characters with a high proportion of forgettable one-note shitters, which is a shame given the sheer amount of text in this hack.
The gaiden chapters were a cool concept on paper but when I played it felt like a slower turn-by-turn version of the Monastery/Somniel. I was also frustrated with how much of these gaidens were dedicated to various characters sucking Baudimon's dick especially after he bites it. Pic related, except the game never really explained why Baud would make a good king beyond "he defended some peasant villages twice".
Yeah definitely the only standouts to me are like Albert maybe some of the older characters. everything else is the Awakening way of writing "compeling characters" one note 90% of the time except when the story ask for u to sympathise more with them. Fred,Victoria,Shom etc. it feels really forced unlike say Path of Radiance or Radiant Dawn

I don't think it's so counterintuitive. if you look at for example Zoran's extremely laborious FE Conquest Let's Play, he's basically reinvented the main challenges of ranked FE play: level up every character, don't let anyone die, and beat the game in a low number of turns.

Quite funny in a sense because you have 4 OP characters (Alm and pegasus sisters) and the rest are duds that are mainly there to protect the lords and die when convenient. you will need to know ASM if you want to build certain custom shit that the game can't or doesn't do by default but the FEBuilder program has a lot of hacks that you might want built into it already so that you can apply them with a button. like displaying health bars for example. most small teams that make really complicated projects have one ASM guy who they can sic on any super custom stuff they're trying to accomplish.
some of the best hacks have zero custom code, Crimson Arm for instance I don't remember doing anything that isn't just base FE
