What's with Valve releasing really old updates to their games that never really needed them? Is it a way to make people think that actually do something all day or a way to stop piracy because people won't have "le latest patch" or what?
>See, we still care about our games! Here is an update that adds three maps that the community made and fixes up some textures! >This causes old mods for that game to completely shit itself making it completely not worth it
This is what, the third time they did something like this?
it doubles down on the clout around Valves legendary track record of game development when they actually made them, and it's low effort. Other than that, just shut up and please buy more CSGO skins please
>update the engine for the anniversary >apply the engine update to all other games owned by valve that use the engine, because why not it's just a modernization update >anon gets suspicious of this, for some reason
>Only include the WON menu for HL1 when OpFor, Blue Shift, CS, TFC all have their own flavor of unique WON menu >No Gearbox Software intro for the expansion
The effort was half-assed
>It knows it's a first person shooter
Yeah an extremely dull and forgettable one, millions more played half life and still do. You gotta get a personality cause being contrarian isn't a replacement for one
Only nerds even know about Half Life while Call of Duty is a cultural phenomenon played by dozens more millions every year than Half Life has had in it's entire lifetime. Whose the contrarian but you?
Quake 2 doesn't have a single memorable moment and they fricked the weapon switch speed.
It's right up there with Unreal 2 in the pantheon of dogshit sequels.
>At least you'll actually switch weapons in Quake
lol
Switching weapons in Q2 gets you killed if you aren't playing on easy mode. That game is practically a cover shooter with how often you have to retreat just so you don't die while waiting the five years it takes to pull out another weapon.
yes thats important for every game, why would I play a game with nothing worth remembering except the samey looking brown environment that looks the same thoughout the game

99% of the game is running around shooting shit autist, you really need to develop a personality contrarian
hl1's legacy towers over your forgettable opinions. It's a classic a pioneer in gaming that broke new ground. while you embrace irrelevance hl set the standard. 25 years later people are still talking about the game almost as much as when it first released while big AAA titles like horizon and spider-man are generally forgotten in a week after their release.
Shame they didn't do similar updates to the expansions. I noticed that the boxes you push still go supersonic in Blue Shift compared to the OG HL where they fixed it.
Shit update that broke other games like Counter-Strike and third party plugins. People with plugins cannot play the game so they have to be on legacy version for the time being. So why go new version unless <current year + n> anyway. They don't release updated SDK along with new update because frick people figuring out how to do things. Engine update is half assed because they don't increase significant mapping limits even though they did increase some other insignificant mapping limits. They add shader support but they don't expose enough settings for users to have their own shader effect. And let's not talk about the facr that they right now have to fix their frick up on daily basis while also add more features based on the test branch depot. Are they pressured to release this update? It feels so because obviously at Valve office three days before the anniversary, someone happened to realize some shit they might have forgotten. Nice documentary though because they fricking downsized Dota 2 crew to make that shit.
Well...that's what happens when your franchise has been stagnate for 13 years (up until 2020)
Name one series from the 90s which hasn't released a new game that is still being talked about
>Name one series from the 90s which hasn't released a new game that is still being talked about
Classic Doom, and age of empires
Castlevania, obviously
Valve didn't even update the game, they assigned it to their LGBT/brony/furry interns on github.
It was a good patch and HL is a short enough game, at least for today's standards. I'll replay on its 30th anniversary

What is this reaction pic supposed to mean? Why is this cat crying in despair despite being in sucha comfy situation?

>See, our game isn't dead, it got an update and has 4 players!
Helps keep their franchise alive (on life support)
>update the engine for the anniversary

How do you get past the exploding lasers without getting blown the frick up?
Shoot the mines from a safe distance
Push the boxes to the far back side of the staircase so you can jump up them behind the lasers
You mean the tripmine warehouse? Climb them. They're physical objects and can be used as stairs.
Deus ex rules. You jump on them. You can skip entire levels by making stairs with them.
I got more bugs with the anniversary update than I ever had in the original.

I'm playing Quake 2 and that game is way more fun.
Its really not contrarian
It really is. It knows it's a first person shooter and not whatever the hell Half Life is supposed to be.

I never said cod is bad so how am i contrarian, no one barely mentioned quake 2 until the recent remaster cause its that forgettable
Read the op. Half Life is more forgotten than Quake lol
Let me check steam charts, oh whats this significantly less people are playing quake than half life LMAO
Quake 2 doesn't have a single memorable moment and they fricked the weapon switch speed.
It's right up there with Unreal 2 in the pantheon of dogshit sequels.
At least you'll actually switch weapons in Quake because that game has actual enemy variety and there's ammo for your weapons.

>memorable moment
Because that's what's important in first person shooters

When you do shoot things it's fricking headcrabs.
So did anyone figure out how to revert the weapon viewmodel bobbing? That's the one reason why I would still want to be on the legacy build.
to let people know where the skibidibi toilet characters come from
I doubt they'd recognize Gman's model from 1
they updated HL 2 as well
>no workshop support
its a shame they didn't add this, installing mods really mess with your game folder
>25 years later
>I am forgotten

What exactly was there to talk about for more than a week
I played the multiplayer for about half an hour. It was boring and repetitive.
