Ignoring OP, why's there such a massive push to ignore/devlaue the praise the game got? People do not wanna count in for GotY. Despite the fact it took just as much time, money and talent to make it like any game that comes out this year. If you played the OG, this remake isn't gonna be a game you pick and run through it because you know the OG well. It's fairly different.

The main reason for that is because RE4 in 2005 was a new experience that nothing else had with the 3rd person camera. If you didn't play RE4 at release in 05 or shortly after you'll never under or experience why it was better than the remake. But now in 2023 if you play both then you're more than likely to think the REmake is better because that "new factor" isn't there anymore to be experienced and stiff tank controls.

Stiff tank controls is an opinion, not a settled science. My feet should be planted in the ground while aiming, it makes sense to stand still while shooting and it gamifies spacial awareness. I similarly miss in Souls when your sword used to clang against the wall instead of clipping through everything.
I replayed RE4 few times before the remake. REm4ke wasn't exactly a disappointment but it's controls were a downgrade imo. Instead of RE4's rigid controls they apted for a "realistic" momentum system which kills the pacing due to delayed inputs imo. You can't knife parry from a sprint due to these input delays for example.
This. The original doesn't have a stealth kill tutorial section and the remake doesn't let you doubletap to kick open doors. The original doesn't ask you to go to a bunch of tiny docks on the lake that seemingly have no in-universe purpose in order to fetch quest pieces of a key, and the remake doesn't let us you tell Ashley to stand the frick still. The original is a goofy game with goofy gameplay and goofy character designs acting in goofy cutscenes, the remake is a goofy game with even goofier gameplay and toned-down more "realistic" character designs acting in bland cutscenes.

You can sell it for almost the sane price you bought and upgraded for. Its's 50% return rate for weapon itself but 95% for upgrades. One of the positive aspects of remake compared to the original.

It was made for GameCube initially which had shitty analog stick aiming. All OG RE4's shortcomings are due to it being made to work perfectly on the current console generation at the time. If a polished Resident Evil spiritual successor was made for mouse aim then it would be up to snuff in terms of difficulty.

Remake4 has better gun balance, better gameplay, far better bosses, way better pacing, no more “that part” from the OG (lava room, fixes the two el gigante fights, fixes the chainsaw sisters so they are no longer a complete joke) has a better story, higher skill ceiling in terms of gameplay, and even improves the shitty shooting range from the original to something actually rewarding and fun, it’s even on pace to outsell the original
