As a kid I never knew exactly what the 3rd versions like Emerald were exactly but I hoped for more. The existence of Emerald's Battle Frontier does not invalidate Platinum's. Platinum is still one of the THREE games with a Battle Frontier. Emerald's Palace is also pure feces and the worst facility period, so Emerald's BF is not even "objectively" better.
Whatever flaws arise from the small Pokedex is easily worked around. The trainers outside the Pokemon Mansion provide tons of money when rematched, money you can use at the Game Corner to get strong TMs for coverage. Just put Flamethrower on something if the Fire types in Platinum don't satisfy you for whatever reason.
Put the Difficulty section in the trash. Cynthia is the other most popular boss along with Red and you just have to cope with that eternally. Platinum's gyms and E4 are alright too. USUM and PLA might have harder sections but Platinum has not and never will be seen as one of the easier games in the series.
Take it if you don't see it (your fault lol) and sell it for 200$ on ebay. I don't care about the game itself since I ripped the rom myself which is allowed in my country if glowies are reading this.
