I’m sick of rpg developers moving into the meme giant open world game.
Big worlds are fun to explore but they all get tedious. The world is barren for the most part. Enemies are recycled. Bosses are recycled. And it ends up padding a game out well longer than it needed.
Case in point, elden ring. This game would have been much better had it been tighter and more focused rather than having such a giant world map.

I still wonder how this game swallowed 300m in production, whereas ds3 cost merely 10m.
marketing
Let's be generous and say 180m marketing, what's with the rest?
I'd say marketing was most 80m, likely less, as from are not known for spending much for marketing, unlike cod for instance.
paying that fat degenerate cuckold hack writer
XD
He took souls lore and strapped german words to it. It's still a cheap ripoff of nausicaa.
I believe he got like a million. Let's say I'm wrong and he got 10m. That's 190m incl marketing.
Graphics are shite, physics are shite, animations are shite. Most enemies are copy pasta. I really don't understand... 100m development? For what?
>100m development? For what?
a staff of 700 people working for 4 years arent paid in jellybeans
Was it 700 full time or...?
Most of the mechanics aren't really much better than ds3, a lot of redskins, boring skills/armor... What were they doing? Music is mostly worse than any souls game. The open world maybe open, but is empty.
Sure, they are now making 6 new ips. I doubt they will ever produce something good, really.
4 years to developer a system where npc can ride a horse
Essentially, yes. The rest was basically done. They even admitted that some bosses were bought ready to use.
The mechanic is mostly ds3. Sure some textures here and there.. I really don't understand.
+ was a buggy mess for like 10 weeks.
Anyway, they made billions and promised 6 new ips. Curious, I'm certain they will frick up big league. BB is worked on rn, according to rumors.
did you play ds3?
Sure. Worst ds, despite good gameplay.
This. DS3 is one of the most lazy games to ever release. It had the shortest development time out of any DS game the whole game is fanservice central of "look, remember THAT character from that other game? Remember this mechanic?" And it also just reuses bloodborne's engine while changing the blood effects to mud shit as opposed to how souls game would have their own engine for each instalment. I have no idea why people meme on DS2 so much and outright skip it when DS3 is so godawful and terrible.
+tombstones everywhere. One of the worst fanservice games ever.
Hopefully bloodborne remake will be good.
Story was nice.
Bloodborne was an absolute treat.
How could they skip aldia?!
DS3 is fine. It's not a masterpiece and it's really "just okay" in every department, but it's not aggressively bad and forgettable like 2 is. I legitimately don't remember a single boss from that game.
Bc it has like 80 bosses. Many of them unnecessary. Royal rat authority. Kek
The best thing about DS3 was the DLC, especially the Ringed City.
I agree the base game was not that great.
Ringed City was fabulous. However they usually hold back on base game to sell as many dlc as possible.
>the whole game is fanservice central
I think you misunderstand what the game is getting at when it includes these locations and characters. The core idea around these inclusions, I feel, is corrupting these characters and locations. Rather than Anor Londo, city of the sun, Its Irithyll, with the old gods eaten and dethrone by men and hollows. Rather than the Demon Lost Izalith, we get the Demon Ruins, where there is only one monarch left of the witch's lines. While some shit is admittedly egregious (Fromsoft reusing onion armour without changing it up slightly), a lot of it is supposed to represent an end point for the old way of thinking of the God's, that most players probably followed in DS1, and a thematic end to the series as a whole. Put it simply, DS1 was about perpetuating a cycle, DS2 was about trying to break it, and DS3 was about the end-point of the cycle
Doesn't mean ds3 not a single fan service to appease the ones that felt betrayed by 2.
Did it truly cost 300 million, or...
>Nepotism pay (giving money to friends and family through company)
>Bloating cost as much as possible to avoid tax
Always worth considering, although I don't know.
Honestly, that's what I'm implying. From is owned by a private japanese pe company. Hence they might laundered money there one way or a other.
From what I have seen, it is fairly common no matter the country. Still I don't know Japan.
Why? So rich people can cash out?
I have no insider knowledge in gaming. Might be true and explain why shite titles have bloated cost and marketing swallows roughly 100% of the production cost as well.
I don't know gaming specific stuff, but I guess you can say that. Generally, accountants tell business owners to do stuff like this. Sometimes (fairly regularly) companies will hire family members/friends just to give them money.
Let's say you made 3 million dollars a year from a business. If you could save 100,000 dollars in taxes by paying a friend a salary of the same amount would you do it? My example is a little messy but think of it like this:
Money to gov? Or money to friend/family?
That's how it is in NA at least.
I mean, other businesses do it all the time.
What? You don’t like the random enemies patrolling or camps you can find? But it’s so big it’s cool. A big world means more for your money. If they stretched out the world 10x bigger and just added some more chests, enemy camps, and catacomb dungeons, it would have been the best deal ever.
Sorry, not an rpg.
Here's your >you for the bait you made. You happy now?
I have never thought that. The only tedious worlds are new AC games and the like. I really couldn't play the Techno Dinosaur games, that was plain to me. But Elden Ring is Dark Souls 3 but bigger. I know many people don't enjoy Fromsoft games, but Elden Ring is objectively one of their best, probably the best. I would have to say, however, that the quests and NPCs are worse than in Dark Souls 1 and 3. They remind me more of Dark Souls 2, but that game also wasn't terrible. In general Elden Ring does seem to follow more so from Dark Souls 2 conceptually than from any of the other games.
i played 1 open world game for half an hour in like 2006, said "this sucks shit," and never played another. elden ring isn't an open world game btw
How is it not open world?
Ubishit/BoTW trash design. 'World' in 'open world' means a cohesive space that feels lived in relevant to its world building or lore, not an expansive map filled with hostile NPCs and mindless chores. That is another hijacking by unwashed and creatively bankrupt homosexuals.
i thought i was crazy for not thinking elden ring was the best rpg ever like everyone else seems to. never really liked souls either tho.
What makes you think I play enough of them to get to that point?
I played Fallout 3, NV, Skyrim that's it. Wouldn't touch open world with a 10foot pole.
Rdr2 has a good open world.
It'd be better if the survival, camp, and criminal elements were more demanding.
Fully agree.
Come to think of it, it would've been much better.
Is there a single good open world game or is it really a meme?
Rdr2 seems like it’s made to be tedious on purpose. As if it makes it less video games and more artsy. Hate that crap.
I think they put emphasis on immersion.
Crystal Projecr does it properly
The open world sections are always mindless trash devoid of anything engaging. Even the copy-pasted catacombs are more interesting than the overworld.
