Since there isn't one up.
I've recently started playing again, haven't since before the ninja shit I've heard everyone complain about. Why the frick is my score -2000 at the end of march and -1000 with loss at the end of april? I really don't want to put another 20+ hours into starting again just to lose this early and not even know why. I'm doing missions and researching as best I can. Are the enemy bases sapping everything already?
DMT Has Friends For Me Shirt $21.68 |
Yes? Hello? I hate the Black Lotus so much it's unreal.
At least Black Lotus Assassins existing gives Scout Drones a purpose.
More like they give anti-personnel mines a purpose.
>hey this would be a good choke point to mine
>the assassin is already there
>throwing_knives_through_my_tritanium_suit_visor.wav
The struggle is real.
just savescum
That's a bad habit I wish to disabuse myself from.
Also, it isn't just ninjas I dislike. Red Dawn and EXALT drop ammo for me, while Dagon is hilarious to me because they use WW2 gear. Black Lotus are a bunch of literal mall ninja larpers. They're sad and pathetic, outside of the incendiary grenades, ninjas, and horrifying naked people.
you are right but files are build around savescumming
Rumor says that ninjas are still overtuned and will receive a new nerf bat next patch.
From what I've heard, Dio's planning on reworking the ninjas, hunter-killer behavior, AND early game progression since he got feedback about things like players only ever using the v8 early game since it can't be intercepted, among other things
>only ever using the v8 early game
Good idea if you're playing on mememutant.
I've never played anything except Xcom 2, but I wanna start with Piratez right away, anything I need to watch out for? I was thinking of doing the second lowest difficulty
First of all, you're gonna need to sell off a bunch of stuff, excess captives, unwanted weapons, and small ship engines are good sources of cash, which you're going to be struggling with. Secondly, your six starting ubers are a lot more capable than the average rookie, they have very high tus, natural armor (20 armor on all sides, even if naked, which makes them resistant to low end weapons and situationally immune to the really crappy guns), so don't be afraid to use melee, especially since you have absolutely dogshit when it comes to ranged options in the beginning. After that, you're gonna want to do research that unlocks new mission types, as they give you more opportunities to gain cash and infamy, which, again, are hard to come by early game. And the last thing I can think of is to remember that night vision and camouflage are a thing, so when you're facing baseline human opponents without camouflage, exploit your uber soldiers' night vision as much as possible to reduce the odds of the enemy getting a shot off.
Honestly you should play at least one campaign of UFO aka original XCOM first just to get a feel for the 90's UI
Made some new mansion for Council Defence missions. Hope it's helps with HWP spawn problems. (You spawn in the garage.)
cool
>insane people in Cthulhu mythos: dangerous madmen that will blow themselves up or tear out their own intestines to please their Gods
>insane people in XCOM Files: [highpitchedscream.ogg]
>shock and awe entire complex of cultists into screaming terror and panic
>have to spend the next 10 turns trying to find the gill-dog sitting in a closet somewhere to end the mission
>more time spent listening to screams than actually moving troops
Most of them are just morons trying to get tax breaks and an excuse to get away from their parents/wives
>guys with literal suits just shot Greg, Gary, Garthalomew, and Gimmy
>not freaking out
I mean if you're part of some combined gun enthusiast LARP/Lovecraft literature group and some glowies actually start shooting and killing your buds, you'd probably freak out too.
And you aren't even invisible like the Black Lotus Ninja Clan or well armed like the Russians.
Hey at least their grogs have FALs, MGLs and that weird boxy german gun once in a blue moon.
Most of the time it's just like, "well, we got some Uzis from the IRA, hope for the best, lads."
>You spawn in the garage
Won't it take 3-4 turns to get into position with xcom files move speed?
Can't you make dedicated spawn points for 2x2 xcom units?
What mod is this cute Operative portrait from?
It's vanilla XCF. I lazily edited one of the Piratez paper dolls and give it to Solar, when I made bunch of them for him.
Oh, that's cool.
I've never figured out how to swap avatars, what do you hit?
Agent's doll in the equipment menu at the base with the middle mouse button.
Oh, yeah, I never go there. I just toss shit in the car and equip them on the way.
Are there any good public armor sprite mods for xpiratez? Some of them are kinda ehhhh
Zombie space freighter. That's a nope from me. Also first time seen one. Did some snooping around with debug before evac, it even has a technodancer among the spawns.
That mission has some dude that casts a spell that sent one of my SS wearing Centurion power armor to the sickbay for well over a month.
The dude in question would've done so again to other of my SS if I didn't debug - knock out all the enemies. It's literally impossible.
It's the same thing as tecnovator suit for gnome, a voodoo based EMP attack.
Yeah, that was technodancer. He fricks up anyone vulnerable to emp, so power armors, syns etc. You will meet him later in his proper mission.
Also never do huge ass missions against enemies who do not break. That's why I noped the frick out the moment I saw who it is. Not worth the time and hassle, also danger.
>huge ass missions against enemies who do not break
no fun just tedium
>month 3, there's already like 4 chaos bases and 2 genestealer cults
>destroy a chaos base and genestealer cult in australia
>it still falls to chaos at the end of them month screen despite having like 3.5k score for the month
huh
>on the space freighter mission
It's not the amount of enemies or the technodude fricking up your power armor, it's the time limit. Without it, the mission would be doable. Of course, that doesn't mean it would be worthy of the time. I don't even know what that mission has to offer, other than the chance of capturing a technodude and high level Guild officers alive.
There were most likely more bases active, you just didn't see them. Or you caught them too late.
What are you playing as?
>I don't even know what that mission has to offer
The sole guild team leader (blue jumpsuit guy) carries around an exotic loot like an orb or a damaged syn. Finding him usually in the middle levels, killing him, and retreating with whatever he drops is only somewhat less tedious than the kill-em-all approach.
are there some submod when you play as planetary guard with shit weapons against some low tier enemies?
What craft are you supposed to discover/build after researching Buckaroo?
Don't bother with necroplanes. Go for car thieves then codex battery crafts.
>splashed a bandit zeppelin with a buckaroo
Feels good, bro.
Is there an early GR weapon to slap onto a Buckaroo? Just having airballs kinda sucks.
LMG or HMG fits there I think but their damage is 1 for lmg 3 for hmg, better than nothing?
Xpedia lives!!

Did the old one get nuked by fascisti or something?
Something went wrong with the hosting or something and the xpedia guys gave up, if i'm remembering it right.
War of the Worlds mod got updated recently.
Anybody tried it out?
Do Lokknars have a better option for underwater action than their space suits?
I got their space suits anyway since eventually I'll need to go to the stars, but...
Skullstrider and shadow should work underwater. Both are far in tech tree.
a better option is to send literally anyone else
I assume that's the gobbo lover anon who's trying to farm condemnations for his gobbo squad.
Lokknar only run, boyyyyyyyyyyyyy*

>Try out Brutal AI mod
>It works will all submods
>Completely changes how AI behaves and the flow of the game
Wtf bros why nobody told me about it before?
Because we're a decentralized community so updates have to filter out through manual checking and word of mouth.
Is it good? How "brutal" is brutal? I would love an AI that acts more offensively (mostly to speed things up a bit) but not one designed for ultrapowergamer grogs with 40,000 hours where machine-code level knowledge of mechanics is required to survive past turn 3.
It absolutely makes the AI act offensively. Now it actually moves around the map, coordinates with each other, tries to escape your line of sight. Im using it for ROSIGMA wh40k mod with omniscient AI turned off and so far it is pretty great.
So wait wait wait, the AI won't cheat with this here AI mod on?
It also won't hunker down in some corner and wait for you to find it?
Nope, it will actively search for you, and if one of AI units finds you it will alert others, but if you kill it before using up your turn other units will behave normally as if they weren't alerted.
Im still testing it out and i played only 4 battles with this mod on but so far i really like what i see. Check it out.
https://github.com/Xilmi/OpenXcom/releases
It works like normal OXCE release, paste your UFO folder and you are good to go.
Also apparently it was made by basic autistic savant, pic rel.
Do you think it'd frick shit up with mods like Xpiratez?
PErsonal opinion, anyway.
I think it might frick up mods that add a lot of bulletspongy enemies as now you cannot pick them off at your leisure. So far i didnt have any problems difficulty wise but then again game threw at me pretty easy lightly armored enemies. Btw melee enemies now WILL charge you and WILL frick you up.
Download the mod from github, unpack it anywhere, copy paste your UFO folder from your current OXCE install. Click the .exe file. It behaves like normal OXCE version and remembers your settings/mods from your vanilla OXCE.
hm
can you assign different ai to different units?
Please think before making a post anon.
its pretty simple question
can you assign different level of AI to different units?
big mods like x files or x piratez have many differnt enemy groups
animals, beasts, bandits, military, civilians, demons, aliens etc - some of them you want to play smart - some not
can you make some AI smarter and some dumber or its one for all?
No there isnt. How would that even work? There is no GUI for that. Game itself doesnt differentiate between "animals, beasts, bandits, military" etc...
Maybe you could thinker with config files yourself and force specific units to always be in search state or something but thats on you.
so its useless
Biggest gamechanger in OpenXcom modding scene since OXCE? Yeah its "useless". What ever moron
Straight from the dev mouth, pic related
>straight up calling anyone who uses talent as an excuse a lazy fricker
Nice.
>Btw melee enemies now WILL charge you and WILL frick you up.
Finally! I'm tired of stupid zombies who fool around and don't attack.
Also is this a separate install of open XCOM or does it just slot in like a regular mod?
Do people really ditch the Airbus ASAP? It's such a nifty craft, especially with batteries taped on.
Yeah airbus is hot garbage.
But it carries six folk, can go to most ground missions, and it's decent enough for spotting danger before stepping out into the thick of it.
Shame they don't make bikes undetectable or bikes would just be better at short range, but still.
It also has more holes than swiss cheese and the enemies always find a way to throw grenades inside it on turn1 if you stay and if you decide to leave airbus on turn one you get reaction fired, your engine blows up with it your loot pile and probably half of the crew has died instantly, that's been my airbus experience.
You use the airbus because you have to, as soon upgrade is available just get rid of it.
I can't cotton to that way of thinking. Terrible to throw away old reliable before you're forced to.
What a retort.
Guy whips up a mod that completely revamps the ai, makes it actually reactive and able to coordinate its units in battlescape and all that in a span of 1 month.
Meanwhile tards like Solar or Dio cannot for the life of them program any actual improvements other than contentbloat.
call me when its actually useful for anything than a base game
Anon isn't wrong. Smarter enemies is cool and all but if you play a conversion mod it gets strange how a band of goblins, a strike force of the Temple of Light and a horde of alien horrors from beyond all operate on the same high level of efficiency. Or say, brainwashed farmers back at their farm and Cydonia's best guard.
Also, they made Leeroys long before that mod. That's an example of one type of unit acting differently from others.
>Smarter enemies is cool and all but if you play a conversion mod it gets strange how a band of goblins, a strike force of the Temple of Light and a horde of alien horrors from beyond all operate on the same high level of efficiency.
And it isnt weird how normally all units fumble around like morons and cannot properly coordinate?
I understand what you guys are saying but personally for me this is the biggest breakthrough in OpenXcom modding in years, now its up to individual modders to utilize it in their megamods if they wish so.
>Also, they made Leeroys long before that mod.
Was that supposed to make enemies charge at you? Because i never really saw it happen that reliably. Ive seen melee/ranged units ignore the easy kill via melee numerous times to instead try shooting your units. Or melee units fumbling around and ignoring your guys shooting at them from far away
>And it isnt weird how normally all units fumble around like morons and cannot properly coordinate?
That can get pretty bad in the open missions without much cover, yeah.
>Or melee units fumbling around and ignoring your guys shooting at them from far away
Have you been using sneakyAI? The AI can and will act stupid even without it, I agree, but with it Leeroys definitely go full moron. Without it Leeroys will move to your guys pretty reliably.
that is fine and dandy but it would be nice to have different AI even for base game, sneaky seactoids, bravado mutons etc
each race with specific AI
making all AI smarter is good for challenge but the game wasn't made with super smart AI in mind
the biggest question is - is this fun to play with super smart AI?
>the biggest question is - is this fun to play with super smart AI?
Objectively? I dont know. Personally for me? Yeah its quite fun.
>that is fine and dandy but it would be nice to have different AI even for base game, sneaky seactoids, bravado mutons etc
>each race with specific AI
That indeed would be cool but bear in mind that the mod itself is less than 2 months old. Guy literally learned about existence of OpenXcom trough youtube video and week later he already made first version of brutal AI. Im sure that eventually the project might be more developed but so far its good for what it is.
Does anyone know how to install piratez on steamdeck? Sadly I'm moronic techwise so I have no idea how to start myself
Considering you bought meme deck you aren't too bright in other matters either.
for starters, try linux build from here, maybe it just werks
https://openxcom.org/forum/index.php/topic,5258.0.html
All I know about AI is that I hate AI on more complicated maps hiding in one closet on the fifth floor.
Even better; completely walled off like fricking Fortunato in an obscure, well-blended spot in a massive stage with 50+ individual rooms.
Assuming I enjoyed FMP and TwoTS, but consider XCF and Xpirates utter dogshit, which megamods are there for me to play? Is the WH40k good enough to be fun for people who don't care about the setting and won't get the references?
TwoTS?
References might be good for understanding your mission objectives and the dangers of the enemies. But it's not exactly going to challenge you to be a setting expert, either.
The World of Terrifying Silence. Basically a FMP but for TFTD.
Wh40k for relatively compact and fun experience
wh40k + ROSIGMA for absolute bloat
It's still being polished and getting more content, and the last patch(es) might have introduced bugs that hinder plot progression. but I like X-Chronicles, also from the author of TWoTS.
What's the setting
https://openxcom.old.mod.io/x-chronicles
Not him, but it seems interesting.
The modern Earth gets invaded by inhabitants of fantasy lands and some monsters from beyond.
Basically, fantasy shit invades earth, and you have the choice of becoming a fantasy gay or solving it with guns.
>fantasy shit invades earth
What's the justification for normal milgays or even police not being able to resolve it.
>or solving it with guns
Good luck with that, lul.
The intro is not there yet, but the government wants to keep things secret for awhile. Also even the most basic b***h civilized Invader has a cheap magic shield that makes simply shooting him with a gun a bit difficult.
>no resistances
>no armor
>HP bloat out the ass
Yeah, feels like TWoTS alright. Now we also need 60% of all weapons to deal low damage but have high armor penetration.
>no resistances
Water Shield is right there though.
>HP bloat out the ass
A Baron doesn't have that much more health compared to normal humans.
Shields are literally just HP by another name.
Light, Darkness, mind and Warp attacks straight up ignore it, while it offers greater or weaker protection against other attack types, how is it not a resistance thing?
Unexcom
Dio's changing some starts in the new version. California lets you start with a bunch of catgirls now.
He needs to put gobbo nurses and doggirls in.
Mystical bullshit means guns are kinda hard pressed to deal with it. Even some of the basic enemies have 'evasion' which basically functions as an energy shield.
What are Russian catgirls doing in California?
Enjoying the beaches.
If you're an insider is next patch going to be N3 or a big letter update?
>can finally get catgirls by the start of the game
>have to set base in California of all places
why do I have to make hard choices all the time let me enjoy the game goddammit
>X-Chronicles
So basically GATE but not shit? I'm in. I've been looking for something to do after finishing a Primaris ROSIGMA run.
I've completely forgot. How do I do higher rank bounty missions? I've been stuck at D-rank only for a while.
You need to research one prize from each customer, as well as Glamour
Then manufacture the Brass Badge using 200 glamour

I love these fat orange fricks
Are reapers the Cacodemons of XCOM?
They're more like the pinkies.
I meant in terms of 'i want a plushie of that', but I guess you're right.
Would a reaper plushie eventually get a 3rd-party ratman+rotogun hat?
Sectoids or Mutons are the mascot of XCOM
Sectoids sure, but OG Mutons are lame.
Mutons show up in the opening cutscene
And are the least interesting thing about it.
To me it's always been the guy with the moronic spikey blonde hair.
To me it's the guy who is in the original version of this.
the terrifying alien beast of war vs a wooden fence, who would win?
The alien beast if you could control it and make it bite the fence.
Might be a terrifying beast of war, but he's a [polite] terrifying beast of war. Causing unnecessary collateral damage while slaughtering civilians is so uncouth. He's an invader and a terrorist, dammit, not a football hooligan.
doggies 🙂
Thank god Dio has some sense now
Seems barely better than just building all those four things separate, I guess you could save some time if building over hangar or plantation?
You need an extractor to build a still and a refinery so it saves time.
You're getting 75 workshop space instead of 35, 3 brainer space instead of 1. That's pretty worth. Total maintenance works out to 25k instead of -170k, mind you, but I'm pretty sure forty runts can make up that difference easily.
Nice idea, but usefulness will depend on how much farther it is in the tech tree than basic facilities.
Things like this remind me how dio is more of an autist than a designer lol
What happened to the bootypedia site?
It's dead but there's a different one now.

What's the best way to get 200 personal devices for the analytics room?
Rob civvies
I've got it figured out, turns out with bank favours you can pay goblinbux to get them.
I really need to figure out how voodoo shit works next.
>how voodoo shit works
To put it simply most voodoo attacks use voodoo mastery which is voodoo power * voodoo skill, so someone with 60 power 60 skill is a better voodoo user than someone with 100 power 20 skill, that said I recommend you have at least 80 power 80 skills for voodoo shit to be really effective.
Then standard voodoo attacks like psi panic and mind control compare your voodoo offense which you can preview by using ALT and enemy voodoo defense, v.def for most enemies is sum of their bravery, voodoo power, skill and current morale, people that have lower morale are easier to mind control, some enemies have absurdly low voodoo defense such as megapol beastmen or all doom monsters, on the other hand turrets, HWPs, tanks, armored cars etc. have a static v.def of 200 and they're nearly impossible to mind control. All voodoo attacks also lose power with distance so the closer the better, this however also works for enemies so if you have someone really weak to voodoo it could be a good idea to just get them as far away as possible from the enemy. The best strategy for you is to have a flying suit and be directly above or below the enemy as there's minimum penalty for elevation and your vulnerable voodoo troop is safe, when walls or other obstacles are present you can get in melee range and maximize your v offense.
Man, Piratez is such a pain in the ass sometimes but when it's good it's fricking good. Blasting huge flaming holes in multi-story buildings with a rocket launcher while your big booba death squad in flying power armor swarm inside from the sky and your e-girl gnome armored car does laps around town gunning down everything in sight. It's crazy how much spectacle there is in a 25 year old turn based game.
So i'm trying the Blackbeard difficulty after playing on John Silver for a while. I heard it increases the amount of enemies but i just had 33 scorpions on a hunt. Is this how it's going to be from now on? How much pain will ninjas bring?
>33 scorpions
Ah, the better-than-vanilla experience "people" keep talking about.
Hunting missions aren't anywhere near being mandatory. Theyre arguably the least important mission type as you could not do a single one in your entire playthrough without any noticable impact.
They're essential just target practice for rookies.
Shambler Hunt is necessary for Giant Bone IIRC.
You can get plenty from cave hunt if you want it so much.
That one always has two shamblers on the middle difficulties.
Risk-free training missions are tedious but optimal to do. A perfect example of shit design.
>risk-free
>he doesn't know
It's low risk. Just immediately abort if you see a nomad.
They're not risk-free. You have a chance of getting rare spawns that will frick your rookies sideways, especially since you likely won't have brought appropriate gear to fight back. That said, that doesn't even apply to PirateZ to begin with. As you progress, you'll skip over a ton of missions that would be a free win simply because the rewards are no longer worth your time, and you're throwing freshness away that could be used on more important things.
Only the most omega of autists would run around seal clubbing for pennies.
The spawns change as the game progresses, at around year 2 actual monsters are somewhat rare on hunt missions.
Every mission has a preset minimum and a maximum amount of enemies it can spawn, as far as I know the first difficulty forces enemy count to be minimum while highest ensures the enemy count is maximum, the middle three difficulties have a weighted rng check where john silver is more likely to be closer to minimum but it doesn't have to, it can spawn anything that's within the mission range.
For this mission, megascorpion hunt the minimum enemy count is 11 and maximum is 40, you just happened to roll quite high that's all there is to it.
>as far as I know the first difficulty forces enemy count to be minimum while highest ensures the enemy count is maximum
No. There's a fixed amount of spawns for beginner/eperienced, and fixed amount for superhuman. Veteran/genius is the average between the two, rounded down.
On top of that, there can be random additional spawns that don't depend on difficulty.
>33 scorpions
are you sure you're not accidentally playing xfiles?
>scorpions
>in an XCOM game
See, this is why XCOM Files is so much better. It doesn't have you chasing around giant insects.
Free reactions.
Play with Brutal AI if you want those 33 scorpions to be a challenge instead of a boring slog
?t=1098
Here's a tip, never go dumbass captain. It's year 3 and I still haven't seen single cbt tournament, no vip club, no analytics, no school graduation. Locking this behind layers of rng is moronic.
hehehe
I guess it makes sense for someone who's defining personality trait is 'Actually, Clinically moronic' to not exactly be at the forefront of scientific advancement, but going so long being kneecapped in research is just bad design. Dumber than the captain.
are you sure you're not missing something instead of it being just rng?
>no school graduation
That shouldn't depend on anything captain trait related, surely?
Actually it does, the moment you select dumbass captain the analytics room is disabled and cannot be researched at all. Instead you need to get VIP club as it provides same service as analytics room but it's unlock is RNG based on a script. The script seems to have a 33% chance of triggering per month starting in march year 1 and a 20% to 80% success rate depending on the facilities you have, dojo, onsen or luxury spa will increase odds.
Looks like dumbass captain is hell of a trap choice in its current state, you could easily spend a year getting fricked in the ass by rng.
Huh, so I see.
Guess you shouldn't have taken the "dumbass" trait in a game that's about half research, huh?
Well if you're lucky the dumbass can get to the VIP club way faster than other captains can get to the analytics room but if you're not you can spend a long time being stuck with nothing. It's not a gamble I would take, being tech locked in this game really sucks.
I'm willing to give Xpirates a try, but I find the abominable gross muscle girls as soldiers untolerable. Are there other, hotter, soldier types, and is it possible to play the game using exclusively those?
Make them all have eye covering bangs, the white hair one. Its very clear that aesthetically that specific hairstyle is the one the game was made for. otherwise go for catgirls.
>otherwise go for catgirls
Are they recruitable from the start? Does the game force you to use different soldier types based on mission gimmicks?
>Does the game force you to use different soldier types based on mission gimmicks?
Yeah there's a ton of restriction based missions, only specific soldier type, only specific gear allowed, only specific armor types allowed etc. If you plan to use only one type of soldier you're in for some trouble, the game does not want you to do that.
Some missions can only be done by one type of soldiers, if you will never use uber gals some missions can't be completed.
Eh, guess I'll not play then.
>abominable gross muscle girls
What's the matter, little boy? Not comfortable with your own sexuality?
But yeah, you can also field baseline humans of both sexes, goblin girls, catgirls, sectoid hybrids, robots, ghosts, and probably a few other things I forget. The game's balanced for the musclegirls, and there's a couple special missions that require them, but you should be able to clear most of the game without using them if you want.
what the frick
1 day recovery for each 1 health lost on a mission. The only bullshit part is soldiers having 90+ hp to begin with. Enjoy your tannymods.
Hope you enjoy you new Terrain bros. I tried to make it as simple as possible and not confusing to navigate.

uh-oh, is this to offset the score no longer getting drained by ninjas? :^)
>>New Events (by Solar)
why?
solar writing style and writing in general suck donkey balls
>Ninjas won't start building bases anymore until provoked
Wonder what provoked means. Maybe it's one of the new missions, like how Disruptive Transmissions is a 'gate' mission
>California start now gives you 8 Catgirl Outlaws
Finally something to vaguely compete with Thebes start, but cali is a kinda shit location
>Hyperweapons Strongbox
Lootgoblin is getting an erection
>Narlock enemies and missions
I've been wondering where the little buggers were. For being so prominent as the Lokk's opposites, I'm surprised they're only now showing up
>Catgirl Tourists, easier to recruit catgirls
Further proof that Earth is only good for sex tourism and that monstergirls of all kinds were built for human dick
Anyone test how good it works with prior saves yet?

Nice try Dio but I'm not doing that bullshit again. Gonna abandon my current cursed run because of that, and do different codex and captain.
Frick cbt.

What's the main benefit of slayer? I saw less penetration v armor and I was turned off immediately?
I don't know what EP is because I'm bad at the game.
inordinate hp damage on thinly armoured foes (zombies) + morale and freshness collapse on everyone else.
also i just really like the linux smg line anon.
So they're kinda like real life HOllow Points or Glasers.
>i just really like the linux smg line anon.
Based ppsh enjoyer
>Gameplay: Ninjas won't start building bases anymore until provoked (except Jack Sparrow difficulty)
that is gay
>CBT
And there it is, I was waiting for Dio to reveal his true colors.
so what is this CBT?
please answer
Its better to just leave it be or else all your respect for Dio will turn into visceral disgust.
>all your respect for Dio will turn into visceral disgust.
implying I have any respect for that autistic polish coomer
just explain it to me anon
CBT is the Clothesless Beat'em'up Tournament
In the real world, it stands for wiener and Ball Torture. I'll give you 3 guesses as to what that means, and the first 2 don't count
Fuuuuck. Guess I have to restart again. I'm never gonna finish a campaign at this rate.
>finishing an xpiratez
Does anyone ever actually do this without cheating?
Sure I do, several times over. Even uploaded the whole thing to youtube.
Source or I don't believe you.

Yeah. My first win was on pre-nerf Jack Sparrow.
>Gameplay: Ninjas won't start building bases anymore until provoked (except Jack Sparrow difficulty)
A weird way to fix it for sure.
>Ninjas won't start building bases anymore until provoked
Oh shit, I might start playing again if that's the case.
Does this mean starting any mission with Sky Ninjas as the enemy faction? Can you peace out if you find out it's them and still be good? Is it a research thing? Blowing up traffic?
Shit's basically a doomsday clock for me and this game would be peak comfy if I could figure my shit out before having all my score succed outta my weiner by some weeaboo harlots
Looks like it's a combination of events, some gated behind incidental researches, a few specific missions you'd do anyway (defend the lokks, shooting down ninja shippings), and culminates in a huge mission where they raid a govt. Probably the one where its shitloads of warriors, assassins, and medics spewing out of a frickhuge land carrier, but I'm not sure of it. Anyway, do all that, and the Ninja HQ will finally spawn, and most ninja missions are taken out of rotation.
Fun Fact: As long as the HQ is alive, new airfields have a chance of being spawned as fortresses outright. Only happens ~2 years after gamestart, but that time gets shorter and happens more frequently as the difficulty goes up, and fortresses will continue to spawn even after the HQ is dead, albeit at a 5% chance a month after 31 months. Have fun!
After a little more digging, it seems like the final gate mission is NOT the frickhuge carrier mission, or it has been severely nerfed. The war itself (thus HQ/fortress spawn, though airfields spawn normally regardless) is also properly kicked off once you finish the 'Pirates vs. Ninjas' research, so I think you can pop it off on your own time without fear of needing to stall. But as usual I'm just a dumb as frick code digger, not someone that actually experiences the storyline, so take what I say with a mound of salt and keep the lube nearby for any surprises.
Hey, thanks a lot for the effort and info either way, sounds reasonable enough for me to give it a whirl.
There's now a warning for the "defend lokk'naars" mission that you're getting involved in an ancestral feud, so I'm pretty sure that's one of the triggers.
The script says that if you do the crowning(pick and research codex) and you defeat a "weak ninja squad" so probably defend lokk missions, you will then have a 25-30% chance to trigger the pirate hunt mission per month, Weirdly enough it says that it will spawn a ninja seeker with a 0% HK chance so it won't even have a radar, I guess dio has seriously taken the feedback to tone down both HKs and ninjas, the worst thing that can do is trigger a base defense if it manages to find your base.
But I guess if you really I mean REALLY hate ninjas, you can just ignore the defend lokk missions and that stops ninjas from progressing completely.
tbh I enjoyed ninjas presence and global crawl
what I didn't enjoy was bullshit missions especially their assault base one with backpacks of death and attacks on their outposts(open field vs turrets)
like always Dio know no limits
Catgirls outlaws are too expensive to recruit, where in the world i'm going to get 5 meds supplies in early game?
Academy
I'm half-tempted to whip up a minimod that turns Cali's Catgirls into redeemable vouchers like Thebes's clones
and they take space in prion yes?
heh so its newbie trap
So, like, what's the point of primitive bow when you can have hunting bow after one of the first techs?
Probably the same reason why pointy sticks are a thing when javelins are a month 1 tech. I think real reason is that someone drew a bunch of bow sprites and gave them for free to dio so he felt compelled to use one of them? No idea really.
Slayer ammo is like hollow points, bad against armor really good against unarmored but big hp enemies, almost nobody uses it though because it's not great and the supported weapons are not great either. EP is just electric damage bullet, does some extra stun damage but it's mostly lethal.
>really good against unarmored but big hp enemies
Thing is, the slayer bullets are most effective with weapons that have shitty base damage. Shotguns are usually better anyway.
I think Dio tried to show the crew's tech progress from something little more than unga bunga cavewomen that got hold of some precious tech like the stolen hovercraft while using shit like sabres and muskets to infamous space pirates but failed, since most of the factions you will be going against will be armed with modern or futuristic weaponry. But the cave technology is still something you can research.
Sure I can understand that, but he should do a better job with finding any use at all for weapons he introduce. Like for example he could forbid hunting bow from going to primal hunts and set it to primitive bow only. Bam, now it's not totally useless. Hire me, Dio.
>get 8 catgirls from Cali Republic
>can't recruit them because lack of apples and meds
>8 prison space less.
I always wanted to play hard mode anyway ;_;
Hey fellas, sorry for the dumb question, what's the new website the bootypedia be at now?
ctrl+f "pedia"
My apologies. I even had it added to my favorites already.
Thank you kindly.
>you start with a harquebus now
LETS' FRICKING GO!!!!!!!!!
I've been looking at changes made in the latest patch and I found this, what the frick is that?
eye of horus

glad that I could help

is this that event when you(or your gals) get drunk and fight up naked?

Oh that makes perfect sense, thanks.
>radar range 10000
Nice.
It's always so satisfying to style on cyberdisks with caveman technology. Git gud, Academy slaves.
With XCOM 3 on the horizon, what are your hopes and fears?
Hopes:
>streamline combat further
>get rid of base management like Chimera squad did
>more friendly alien races for your squad
>better storyline
Fears:
>it's just XCOM 2 again
Wrong thread. Go away.
This is the XCOM thread.
What part of "Open XCom / Piratez Thread" don't you understand? Does it says "degenerate capeshit nuCOM" there? I think not. Make your own thread and frick off.
You do not have to be rude. This thread is big enough for everyone.
I don't post in open xcom threads to talk about nucom.
This isn't exclusively an old XCOM thread. Most people do not play old XCOM. This isn't your private chatgroup.
>has a perfect Chimera thread still active to post about his dream Chimera sequel
>uses a tangentially related thread dedicated to a game that plays nothing like it instead
But why?
>This isn't your private chatgroup.
it is. frick off.
Frick you. Frick off.
Captcha: Black person
Nuxcom, and I do mean all of them, plays too differently from the classic series openxcom reverse engineered and all mod derivatives are based on.
>says openxcom right up top
>this isn't your private chat group
Please show me what the name of your program is.
if you let one nucoomer in, you'll end with snake fanfics before long
Now the real reason comes out. You're just neopuritians.
>neopuritians
>x-piratez
>neopuritians
xaxaxaxa
frick off furgay
This is a good point, the worst decision /xcg/ ever made was to allow snekposters to run free.
I am thankful everyday that they aren't in /&tg/
Come the frick on, OpenXcom ends up invading every XCOM thread. It's only fair to shill a bit of Firaxis here.
lrn2gatekeep in your snekgay degenerate threads.
>Piratez player calling others degenerate
Don't you have a snussy to jerk off to? Frick off already.
I don't mind friendly alien races, but it should be like a late game stuff.
I don't get why xcom community thinks you must pick a side, oldcom or nucom you can't possibly like both that would be blasphemy.
But I do like nucom with long war and x-piratez they're both great experiences, different but in a good way. If you've only played vainlla nucom but never tried long war, you're missing out simple as that.
It's because of how /xcg/ turned out, simple as. nuCOM furgay degenerates have to be purged on sight, if it means banning all talk on nuCOM then so be it.
started playing piratez again after having quit a long time ago, forgot almost eveything, can anyone give me a few pointers as a refresher?
Max brainers asap, right/middle click everything to learn things, don't disembark on first turn, night missions are preferable early game.
Unlock new missions as soon as possible, first month you should definitely have !!bounty hunting!! completed, and preferably !monster hunt! and !warehouse wars! if you're lucky.
Don't play on the easiest or hardest difficulty. The middle three are fine.
why is that?
how's the tech tree? any signifcant changes?
good to know, thanks
>why is that?
Easiest locks you out of voodoo stuff, hardest is a meme for tryhardgays.
>any signifcant changes?
Hard to say that without knowing how long ago was your last time, still follows the airbus start into the back to school > school graduation > higher studies tree, things tend to have more prereqs now but it's mostly the same.
I think I quit around 2019-2020
So the tech tree should be mostly the same with few extra steps needed.

Did X-Com Files change its rules for how wounded people are counted as arrests in its last update, or am I just fricking up? I feel like I've had several suspects injured, then treated and handcuffed, then counted as dead at the end of missions. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug with the handcuffs? Something else?
>handcuffed
never used them
maybe they died out from stun damage
They always struck me as both genuinely useful and a very cool idea to play with so I love getting them out. But my stabilised and cuffed suspects weren't making it back last night.
Did they actually turn lethal? I have no way to know.
i just shoot them and patch them if i can
there is only like few targets that are worth risks, you can get most of them sooner or later
Handcuffs apply loads of stun damage every turn, too much stun damage kills without warning. Why exactly our handcuffs are coated in curare and fugu poison, only Solarius knows.
Ah, wasn't aware but that explains how they work. Is the formula for how stun translates into damage or overloads into a kill known?
I vaguely recall it being something like doing 2x as much stun damage as they have health is the lethal tipping point, can't recall if that's max health or current health though.
I believe it's stated in one of the #XXX logs that once your stun damage reaches (HP)*Y, you begin taking one lethal damage a turn. My guess this is to prevent you from just stunning someone into next week so they never get up, effectively killing them with none of the risk of them dying.
I fricking hate how fickle the stun system is in openxcom mods, you have to stun them but not too hard or they'll die from overstun but not too soft or they'll wake up in 2 turns and shoot you in the back. If you really want to make sure someone stays down you have to babysit a stunned enemy constantly.
It honestly makes me miss the arc thrower bullshit the nucom throws at you, at least there a stunned alien stays stunned for the rest of the mission.
I really like the idea of overstun being fatal so that things like rubber shotgun slugs don't make the game easy mode like SWAT4, but of course handcuffs are meant to be your ultimate safe restraint for more work tool. If *they* can kill too then your best off just spamming rubber slugs again.
Easier said than done I know, but handcuffs just making recovery impossible somehow would be the perfect middle ground answer to this.
Handcuffeds need reworked in general:
1. They need their own special symbol.
2. If someone breaks them in eye sight, you should get a pop up warning.
3. There should be a specialized sound effect for 'breaking out of handcuffs' that plays no matter what.
Handcuffs are the deadliest weapon in XCF, working as intended.
>Try Files again
>First mission and my chink-arab duo gets medals like spacer, dreamwalker, aquanaut etc
Huh?
Sounds like a bad install, possible OXCE ver mismatch.
v.N3.1.1
Fix: Hellerium Plant base defense crash
Fix: Ninja Firebase radar crash
New Unit: Nekomimi Renegade (missed in previous changelog)
New Terrain: Autumn Forest (by Brain)
Barbarian Ax and Bardiche have a range of 2 now
+20% energy regen on average for Catgirls (more for fast attack outfits) but base NV now is 16.
Energy Shield added to Zortrium Suit
minor terrain fixes, other fixes, language updates
Time to get a choppin' lads
Is safe to update 3.1 to 3.1.1?
It's a minor update so it's probably fine.
>Barbarian Ax and Bardiche have a range of 2 now
Oh cool. I might make the bardiche now. Never bothered before.
>Piratez updated recently
>XCF updated relatively recently
>X-Chronicles apparently updated somewhat recently
When's AdMech, ROSIGMA?
Unfortunately i dont think we are going to get AdMech ever. Devs said that its too hard to translate the aesthetics into limited number of pixels that xcom style offers.
They said they were working on them. If I recall, they posted a paperdoll of a Sicarian Ruststalker as proof of concept.
The dude that made is disappeared forever ago.
Thats all we've ever gotten and it was posted 4 months ago. No word about AdMech or more sprites since then
v.N3.1.2
- Fix: JS Ninja HQ script
- Drastical reduction of Catgirl Outlaw recruitment cost
- "Catgirl Recruitment" actually allows to recruit them again (with different cost and lore)
- Added more events variety
Does this make starting in Cali actually worthwhile?
Yes, if you want to start off with Catgirls.
What is the cost now, I cant use computer for 4 days herd
5 fish, 5 smokes, 1 vodka. Actually a pretty steep drop in price, you could burn through all your starter outlaws in just a few bandit-oriented missions on loot alone.
Nice I cant wait until the 26th to start a NEW game
I think Dio forgot to include actual catgirl tourist into recipe lol. I can hire infinite catgirls for 1 database each.
Nah see catgirls are absolutely addicted to social media, what you're doing is just setting up bot accounts on SpaceTwitter to corral unwashed masses of felines to the Greatest Tourist Destination On Earth That Totally Isn't Actually Full Of Pirates That Will Press Gang You Into Being Shot At By Nazis And Militarized Techno-Lesbians
Wait a minute, I thought WE were the Militarized Techno-Lesbians
No, we're the Wealth-Reappropriating Techno-Lesbians. Not much in the ways of proper military organization when hierarchy is determined by tit size and research/manufacturing is conducted via 'What does this button do?'
You are the mutant amazonian babes with a shota fetish.
To prevent this, my crew makes extra sure to NOT take any B-Boys or Altar Boys alive.
>techno lesbians
Even outside of we need male touch they clearly enjoy fricking male slaves.
I think we're just Militarized bawds that sometimes use technology.
The lunatics just use males as sex toys. Any actual romantic relationships are lesbian, and it's heavily implied that Gals casually frick each other regularly. They're lesbians that use organic dildos.
M8 its okay you don't need to start reaching to pretend they are lesbians. Just don't read any codex entries.
All the things
mentioned are codex entries...
Unless it changed, the human hero entry mentioned the danger of the gals wanting to settle down with them and leave pirating
That's unfair. Everyone is protagsexual.
I assume my pirates are a bit prison gay. If they can get men, great, but if not, they'll make do.
I've never played this. Is it much difference from ufo defense?
It plays like a totally different game
>Convince steam friend to play PirateZ
>Says the game is too hard and he doesn't usually like western porn, but he nutted a few times.
Does...does anyone else genuinely beat off to PirateZ? Is this a genuine thing?
If you're like 12 years old I guess, but then you shouldn't be here.
Maybe he has a pixellation fetish?
I find it hard to imagine someone actually jerking off to it, but i can see how someone can enjoy it. The game has that old lost feeling to it like Heavy Metal magazines, and i'm not just talking about the art or the designs, it's the whole thing. The good old Pulp fiction. Nostalgic to some, refreshing to others. And for the younger ones it might even be something completely new, something a lot different from the modern crap. Or maybe the guy just discovered his amazon fetish, who knows.
>Yarrr, get ye strapon matey!
>Other gal straps a shrine boy onto herself
No shit, much of the bootypedia art is straight up lifted from Heavy Metal. This one look familiar?
Yes, but i mean it goes beyond just taking the art or the designs. The whole game has that feeling of laid-back appreciation of strong gals, cool violence and weird futuristic designs. Just guys having fun.
Eh, most stories in the magazines was mostly a bunch of philosophical sophistry backed by walls of text of made up words until the gradual shift to light porn. Most consistent stories that cropped up was spy fiction, or at least different flavors of that. Raucnhy jokes and political stuff not withstanding.
i have jacked off to the synthsuit on several occasions but aside from that no
Raided another landed Church cruiser(?), even managed to snag the cardinal this time. Time to see what this plasma spitter does.
v.N3.1.3
- Fix: N3.1.1 bug with no energy recovery on some armors
- Fix: catgirl tourist recruitment now requires actual catgirl tourists
- Rebalanced Scourge SMG
- Buffed Spider Queen's HP
Which one of you matrixgays reported the my tourist bug lol?
dio getting sloppy
He’s pushing 50.
No, no. He's actually young. Just looks 50
I always wait a few days after a big patch comes out for little fixes like these but I guess I'll keep waiting a little longer this time.
Also that would explain why my zone stalker in cleanser armor had like 0 fricking stamina after few turns.
What are good starting positions after the latest updates?
I suspect Theban Hive remains overall the best one, but what are other decent choices?
California now gives you a whole bunch of catgirls.
Turan remains a solid choice with the hyena riders.
blackmarch and the one that gives a gorillion slaves are good
>blackmarch
Is the gnome they give you really that good?
It's not. It's already recruited so you can't research it.
the value isnt the gnome its getting their contact faster which can unlock several valuable things
I love Turan because getting Hyena Rider early enough to actually use it is just way too much fun.
My favorite is doing distress call missions with just one Hyena Rider gal.
>early enough to actually use it
That's their primary drawback. Hyena Riders lose value after the early game, due to their poor armor (they're basically naked) and general lack of resistances.
>getting their contact faster
Ah, right. Blackmarch, Eurosyndicate, Fuso etc. have those special 'Contacts' bonuses, allowing the purchase of special items.
i always go either iron tribe or central europe, either for the early necroplane or for decent globe coverage
I've noticed that there's a branch of jet fighters gated off by that plane.
Though you need a shitton of research to reach them, even if you managed to get the Iron Tribe Necroplane early.
ye
A crappy partial (non-)summary regarding starting locations:
> Europe
> Eurasian Autonomy
No early-game stuff. A baby nuke, plus dependencies for some mid-late-game tech (Siberia Base, uranium weapons). Also a Govt Fine (-$10k/month). Onsen unlock prereq. Not a great location for a new player.
> Iron Tribe
Their Daredevil necroplane is kinda shit (slow, fragile, can't land), but you can get it relatively early and comes pre-equipped with weapons (most early craft have empty slots). So you have something to swat roving bands with. It also gates better craft. Plus the country itself gates some later tech.
> Eurosyndicate
Starting bonuses are on the meh side, real value comes from the country contact: eventually allows the purchase of las-weapons. I'm not 100% sure, but I think having your starting hideout here causes some scripted events where Blackmarch and/or Theban Hive complain, until you put a hideout in their territory as well. Also, the 'deal' you can research later on is a massive infamy black hole. Best keep clear until you've already obtained the prereqs for also researching renegotiation.
> Blackmarch
As stated previously in the thread, the recruited gnome doesn't unlock any research; main asset is (again) the country contact. It allows you to buy some nice weapons and a strictly-better version of the airbus (Faust, whose research gates better craft, same as the Daredevil). Like above, I think you get some scripted events regarding Eurosyndicate and/or Theban Hive.
> Romanica
Most of the stuff is decent, but not immediately impactful: crusader armor needs slave soldiers (strong ones, too, shit's heavy). The nun outfit is useful, but only in specific situations (zombies, vampires, chryssalids); the swords and staves are okay early on. israeliteeled cross and cup can be sold for that extra brainer. Their country contact allows you to get more swords and nun outfits (also gates an important later tech). Onsen unlock prereq.
>cont.
> Europe, cont.
> Nordfederation
Not a great deal of value in 5 Young Ubers. Sure, you can recruit them to fill up the ranks, but their stats are lower than those of Escaped Lunatics (whom you can find in Red Lantern Villas), and demand a starting salary. I think the best uses for them are Nekomimi exchange, exotic dancing, or spying on ninjas; all of which require a good deal of research to reach. Onsen unlock prereq. Feels like a rather lackluster location.
> Theban Hive
Probably the best starting location, as long as the (sizable) initial infamy hit is adequately managed. You get Assault Clones, basically roided-up peasants, except better. Their starting combat suit, while very poorly armored, has shields and resistances against just about any weather effect. It also allows underwater and space ops. Their only downside: a VooDoo skill penalty inherent to Assault Clones. Country contact allows purchasing some nifty stuff, and gates an important research item. Same as prior notes, seems like having your starting hideout in the Hive is going to lead to some scripted events.
Overall, for Europe, I'd say the Theban Hive ranks first thanks to the Clones. Blackmarch comes second: the Faust is useful for longer than the Daredevil, and the Panzerfaust is likely to be your first/only ranged kaboom for a while (BM SMG is also nice). Romanica and Iron Tribe are third; in both cases, the early-game stuff (sword, quarterstaff, necroplane) drops off in utility, while the other items/techs take a while to become useful. Eurosyndicate is fourth; ES las-weapons are good, but getting rid of that 'deal' is a huge research slog; needs a series of scripted events as well. And, if you don't take the deal in the first place, you miss out on some pretty powerful (if very expensive) kit. Ru- err, Eurasian Autonomy is next-to-last, because their starting items lack impact until much later. And Nordfederation takes the last spot; it's just lower value compared to the others.
what about the rest of the choices?
nta but personally I started to like hidden expanse start, not because the flak tower kits are any good but because you can just sell them instantly and early on money is the biggest problem for me
I'll try going through them later. I need to work around the character limit (while still maintaining a modicum of coherence), plus I haven't written long(er) posts in quite a while.
Why not make it a pastebin or something at that point? Sounds like something that can be reused going forward.
NTA but pastebin frickers deleted old xpiratez faq in the past despite there wasn't anything controversial in it, because they're woke homosexuals. If they did it once they will do it again.
Pastebin deleted virtually everything. They didn't single out xpiratez.
Well yeah, but that was the only thing I cared about, and it doesn't make them any less homosexualy.
k
>eventually allows the purchase of las-weapons
Horribly overpriced, though.
>I'm not 100% sure, but I think having your starting hideout here causes some scripted events where Blackmarch and/or Theban Hive complain, until you put a hideout in their territory as well
It does. But even if you do, you get an infamy penalty for even being in Europe (your brainers say Europe is a political mess)
>infamy penalty for even being in Europe
It's a whopping -50 a month though, and having a base in only Thebes is still only -150. Literally not worth even reading the event window. I get deeper hits than that from accidentally grenading civvies.
Anyone made base in Cali? Are there any shitty random events like in Turan and Theban?
>get rid of the Airbus as soon as you can
And replace it with what?
Pachyderm is the first vehicle I would consider a true airbus replacement. It's like an airbus but better.
Turtle holds more troops but it's so slow the utility is much lower and I consider it an airbus complement, not an airbus replacement.
There's also the option of starting in Blackmarch and rushing the Faust. It's a direct improvement over the bus: faster, more range, better radar, weapon slots.
It's a bit slow to obtain (takes a while to gather all 30 of those $5000 chips), but it's a straight swap, until you can get more advanced assault transports.
Yeah no, I'd rather sell the small engines early on.
You get a big penalty for selling items on higher difficulties, 3 engines and 30 5k chips would sell for only 270k$ on jack sparrow, at that point the faust is a better deal than any early aircar.
Oh right, I forgot there's a penalty lol. I only play normal. I guess it is a valid choice on higher difficulties.
I seriously hate that mechanic ever since dio included it, what line do I edit in the RULES file to make every non jack sparrow diffculty keep it the same sell price as diff 1 and 2?
that is the part of difficulty tho
unless you prefer X Files enemy swarms or inflated stats
I actually do like enemy human waves, it helps with the stat and condemnation grind and makes me feel better about taking 2 spare mags instead of 1, besides explosives exist if shit's actually truly out of hand
Are different armies in the wh40k mod actually meant to be different difficulties? I picked Sororitas because reasons, and I'm sort of struggling badly.
Everything worth using costs 20+ alien alloys, and I get like 12 from a ship with 10 chaos marines on it that wipe half my squad. I think I can buy them, buy I have no money either, since loot sells for pennies.
Should I just burn all my honor badges on masterwork plasma rifles? It's the only weapon that seems to do damage to things, and I would rather pay 4 badges than 20 alloys (which I don't even have).
Not particularly. Which Sororitas subfaction did you choose?
>loot sells for pennies
Sell half of the Promethium you get. You don't really that much of it unless you go for Flamers or Meltas (which you shouldn't)
>plasma rifles
Not worth the effort. Invest into kraken rounds for your bolters. See if you can't make your troops carry Lascannons.
>Which Sororitas subfaction did you choose?
...I don't think there are subfactions? I picked them at the difficulty selection menu and that was it.
>Sell half of the Promethium you get. You don't really that much of it
But it converts to metal if I pay 3 mil for the forge. I think I'm doing that.
>Not worth the effort. Invest into kraken rounds for your bolters.
I can neither buy nor manufacture them. The tech tree viewer seems to imply I can't ever get them? In fact, I can't seem to get a ton of stuff. No guns with aimed shots at all, no armors, no smoke grenades even. My only source of smoke grenages is terror sites. I get 8 per month and treasure them the best I can, lol.
Overall, things are looking up I think. Guardsmen have set up a few camps right near my main base, so I'm farming tank columns for those sweet 500k bounties and easy XP.
Oh shit you're playing the regular 40k mod, without ROSIGMA. On paper, ROSIGMA was an expansion of sorts to the 40k mod but they seem to be completely different games.
Sorry, man.
Yeah, figured something was off. Guess I'll just suffer then. Apparently every single piece of armor is gated behind a live raptor interrogation, and I've never seen them. Love when mods do that. 90% with no armor, and then you research all of it in one streak.
>go on a piety-farming trip dabbing on 6 traitor guard tank columns in a few days
>almost nobody dead, but most people end up with 10-15 days in the sick bay
>shrug and order a bunch of fresh recruits
>terror happens before they arrive
>it's the psionic spamming gay marines too
Frick that shitty guard outpost on an island in the middle of nowhere. Can't believe I'm losing funding for a 5000+ score month.
is there some streamer with gameplay video of this schizo shit, I haven't played original xcom in 10 years
Best display filter and resolution?
Just use the standard XCOM 2 settings.
No filter gives considerable enemy turn speed boost (regardless of your hardware) and looks good, otherwise quilez is fine.
Battlescape resolution is up to you, experiment and see what looks the best. Personally I use original geoscape resolution, since otherwise some screens will become uncomfortably small.
>No filter gives considerable enemy turn speed boost
I thought that's because (most) filters use OpenGL, and VSync is ON by default for OpenGL.
Does the slowdown also occur when using an OpenGL filter with VSync OFF?
2xHQ
Can someone explain to me what does "freshness normalized" mean? For example I'm looking at one of the starting armors for gals and the formula says:
Energy Health current×0.3 + Freshness normalized×24 + Stun current×-0.2
The way I understand this is that if you have more health you'll recover more energy and if you have stun you'll recover less, but what does this freshness thing mean? I know that low freshness is bad but I want to know exactly.
Normalized means set between 0 and 1, depending on a % left of full capacity.
So if you have half freshness left, it will count as 0.5
So 'provoking' the Ninjas is just done via the tech tree, right?
And doing missions. First stage you need to do defend narlocks (and cloaking device and data mining research). For second some more research and the big ninja raid mission. After that you can start ninja war by research.
At least that's what I see from looking at pedia. Haven't progressed that far yet.
>defend narlocks
I meant defend lokknars, lol.
Okay so I can't frick myself into low score hell by picking up 'intercepting ninjas' or whatever the one sitting in my hopper is.
Looks like ninja interception disables basic defend lokknar mission and enables different versions of that mission (harder I suppose). Also you have to research it someday if you want shadowrealm. It may also do other things on the world map, didn't look top deep.
what the frick happened in america???????????????????
my score was like -1100 and i did well this month
Base building probably.
Fukken rip.
Where should start the next game? This was California.
Turan is fun, having hyenas almost from the start kicks ass, and you can trivialize primal hunts by doing it with a raiding party with 3 hyenas. But make sure you always have something to sell that's worth 100k saved up because random event that spawns there is a fricking pain in the ass early game.
>because random event that spawns there is a fricking pain in the ass
It can't possibly be worse than this.
For the record I was playing Blackbeard.
Are you sure you were playing on blackbeard? Because that's a Jack Sparrow-exclusive event
Reasonably sure, yeah.
That's weird as frick. Difficulty goes from 0-4, and BB is 2. That's some wacky-ass bug, and not the robotic kind.
Heh good thing I didn't pick soreass captain if these kinds of js bullshit spawn on lower difficulties lol.
Soreass actually makes it happen later, starting on month 7 instead of 3. Still locked to JS though. I think the universe just pulled a funni and gave you a one in a million bug.
Oh you're right. There are 2 versions of that event, normal and soreass.
Yeah, I actually did pick Soreass. Not sure if that's even related, but it's another data point.
This run got fricked hard by the RNG. First a shit event that isn't even supposed to be possible, and then two months of massive enemy activity on the other fricking side of the globe. The only craft that landed near me were sectoids, and I was absolutely not prepared to take on two mechtoids with plasma guns.
I've been doing some early game optimizations and from my experience first 6 months are literal lottery, the amount of good or bad rng can swing incredibly wildly. I've heard that there was some problems with april-ish activity but people assumed that was just ninjas, but that doesn't look like it sometimes you still get hit by like a million points penalty that you can't do anything about.
yup, same shit happened to me, in
. i'm in iron tribe, other side of the globe, yet enough shit happened in the US that it outweighed a good month of pirating and still gave me -1100 infamy.
What were the thoughts behind adding these events that just tank your score?
dio likes our pain
They are to punish jsautists because they love it. Having it in any not autistic difficulty is a bug.
Jacksparrow isn't suppossed to be the difficulty for the hardest but normal/fair playthrough. It is quite literally "frick you player" by Dio.
Because the players are brats who need correction.
Thebes is always good if you want some situationally-tanky peasants, or Nord for some free ubers. Or go Turan like other anon said, having yeen girls to go chryssalid on Church buttholes is always nice
Should I buy the OG Xcom games?
they're dirt cheap right now
Just pirate. None of the people who made it will get your money if you buy today. Who the frick buys single player games to begin with.
Back by (un)popular request...
> America (exc. Steel Pact, Dark Dominion: part of the Southern Enclaves instead)
> Confederation
Nice starting guns, a bit of glamour, research freebie (Sheriff's Handbook), and a (small) starting infamy penalty. Decent, but just about that.
> Canada
The birthplace of a certain red-eyed mesugaki. Unfortunately, that plotline (and corresponding scripted events) is currently unfinished. Your starting items are moderate amounts of auxiliary stuff (glamour, cultural wealth, personal database etc.)
> Cali Republic
One for the furry appreciators: 8 catgirl captives waiting to be recruited. You also get ample amounts of crack, porn and glamour. Real subtle here, eh Dio? However the 75 cleanup bills suck, and getting rid of them is seriously expensive early on. The country itself gates a rather situational slave soldier outfit.
> The Technocracy
Somewhat similar to the Eurasian Autonomy, in that it gates (and provides) some later game stuff. It's also another part of the above-mentioned mesugaki's plotline, but, as already stated, that one's not yet complete.
> Latin Empire
Only offers one unit of Old Earth Books. However, those gate a lot of research, so their value is higher than at first glance.
> Red Revolution
You get 10 workers and 3 peasant revolutionaries. The revolutionaries are adequate, but the workers are, IMO, more of a drain than a benefit. $50k/month isn't a trifle when just starting out, and the 40 storage isn't really worth the expenditure, at least not early on when you have sufficient vault space. I think they need an upkeep rebalance, since I can't see a situation where I'd actively want workers over slaves.
America seems somewhat undercooked compared to Europe. No country contacts with special equipment, few tech dependencies, and an unfinished plotline. Cali Republic is the standout (those cleanup bills tho), with Confederation, Latin Empire and Red Revolution as potential alternatives. The rest are eh.
Confederation, being in the center and all, gives you best radar coverage on the continent, and with the handbook and free guns is pretty good choice imo. I went with that one for current run.
Correctly noted. Blackmarch in Europe has similar (roughly) central placement for radar coverage purposes. I admit I should've paid more attention to radar positioning for starting location value.
regarding starting bonuses, its worth noting the continent bonuses too: europe gives -50 infamy and saves you from needing to research rare earth elements which is a not inconsiderable benefit early. NA gives +200 infamy and uber wheat which is much faster to research. ive never been able to find a spot for thebes that is also in europe, but ive been told its possible
I didn't touch on those either. Was initially planning to make them a separate section, since there's a fair number of them, and several coincide with Country: None.
Will mention, however, that, if you start in South America, do not allocate a brainer to Call a Meeting. It's the continent's research freebie, so you will waste brainer time on duplicate research.
Don't you get a continent bonus before the first research day ends though?
I checked just now and you're right, the continent bonus event pops up around 16:00 - 16:30 on the first day.
Finnaly managed to finish sprite sheet, Dio seems to like it. Hope you as well :^)
Fat doomguy
These polish names for resistances sound hilarious lmao.
the entire polish language is very funny if you dont speak it
I speak it and it still sounds funny lol.
How is UNEXCOM?
If it's like Great War of the Worlds, then it's a broken mess with some cool assets.
Uhhhhhhh... sisters????
First month, how the frick am I supposed to counter that shit? gunpowder bombs?
I had to bail, mutie town was razed...
>how the frick am I supposed to counter that shit?
Basically you don't, the initial pogroms are optional and are intended to be nearly unwinnable with starting equipment.
If you were feeling really brave you could've used hammer to break the armored car but more than likely it would just tear you to shreds, come back in few months when you have something better than an airbus is the intended solution here. Running away from missions is something normal in piratez, you are not meant to clear every single thing you run across.
Ah, I see now, understandable.
Guess that trying to step up against this world's injustices when we're barely able to figure out weaponry past the XVI century was a foolish act. Thank you
ideally a RPG or a LASS, 14mm rifle at minimum, if truly desperate you can attempt hammer like that other guy said or spam molotovs (this takes a lot of them however)
oh and also LMGs, AMGs, and military and heavy shotguns with AP slugs can sometimes pen it's armor with a high enough damage roll, but yeah muskets are totally useless as you can imagine
Don't. I did my first pogrom with bayoneted rifles, hunting rifles, and a lucky golden marksrifle I got from a random event. I barely won and had to reload like 3 times.
Melee weapons. So long as you have a gal with some strength training, one or two hits from the sledgehammer should kill it.
Early pogroms are HARD, though. They can be doable depending on who you're fighting, and the weapons you get are usually worth it if you do manage to clear the mission, but skipping them is often better. It's only a minimal score penalty early on, before you join the Mutant Alliance.
>bandits early
well you don't, just grab what you can and run away
On my current run I had Nazis at night(1st month 17th january) and it was fairly easy(could not be as they had some RPG) - still lost some village girls and like all civies were killed so Infamy penalty - got laser and plenty of guns so it was worth but it was still risky
yeah out of all the early game progrom factions the bandits are the worst purely because of the armored car, nazis and spartans are nasty too but they lack armor and armored car so it's a question of if you are able to git gud (or save scum) enough to kill them and get thier weapons to use on the bandit armored car later on
if you're crazy enough you can bumrush the car with a hammer and just smash it, cars can't CQC so there's no risk of deflection
wait...
WAIT...
HAMMER COUNTS AS A RANGED ATTACK?
that explains a lot
Anything that's targeted counts as ranged: hammer, spear, whip, etc. If you're next to enemy you roll cqc.
lmfao frick i shoulda realised this sooner, thanks
The Hammer is MVP for armoured cars. The trick is avoiding it shooting the shit out of you BEFORE you can bumrush it. Worst case, bring two or three so you've spare if your hammer gal gets blasted.
For the purposes of "Will this car explode violently if I kill it", no. For the purposes of CQC attack deflection, yes.
Neat, the armored car no longer looks like shit.
yeah I know I wish dio does the same with your own cars oh well
Sufficient molotovs will do the job, which is how I do it early in the open maps. In maps with lots of cover like that it's much easier, just run some heavy melee into a building near it then once it ends a turn next to the building knock down the wall and wreck it.
Yet another attempt...
> Asia
While I previously glossed over regional items/events for placing hideouts in a particular area, it's rather necessary to do so here. That's because Asia contains one region which provides a straight-up (big) penalty. If you place your hideout in a country that's located in Central Asia, you'll get 777 Capitatory Tax liens. Each of them costs $200 in monthly upkeep, and requires $1k to 'sell'. So you're looking at $155k monthly upkeep, and $777k to get rid of them. Getting the best radar coverage is less likely than in Europe or America because of this (also because Asia is more spread out than the other two in the first place).
> Eurasian Autonomy
Yep, it shows up twice, since it's included in world lore for both Europe and Asia. If you place your hideout in the Western part, you get the Europe region event (rare earth elements), while the eastern part is Siberia (furs and ushanka). Otherwise, it's pretty much the same as before.
> Central Province
Doesn't offer anything other than sectoweed. Useful for starting your own plantations, but you'll need way more than those 75 units for any serious manufacturing. Avoid placing your hideout in the western half, it's Central Asia. Go for the random food items of South-East Asia.
> Fuso
Some nice melee weapons, a research freebie (which can unlock more stuff if you're lucky), some Glamour, a smidge of bonus infamy, and their contact offers more of said weapons for purchase (and some later-game research). Onsen unlock prereq. The entire country is in South-East Asia, so nothing bad. Only downside is the off-the-beaten-track placement, for radar purposes.
> Ghostgates
You get a whole lot of slaves, of multiple types. And the country gates some interesting advanced research. Unfortunately, I haven't found a hideout placement that wasn't in Central Asia. I think the entire country is located in said region, which makes starting there somewhat painful.
>cont.
I think there's a location in the eastern most part that may count as east asia instead while still bein g ghostgates (by the boarder with china)
I tried placing a hideout in the north-eastern 'limb', and it registered as Country: None. I've noticed the same thing when placing hideouts close to a border line in other areas, they sometimes don't register properly.
yeah shit's obnoxious I got that with california with the desert part apperently actually being the confederates, as well as being too close to the coastline in england and the hive causing "none" as well, wish there was some sort of overlay for it outside of debug mode
It's because countries and regions are defined as rectangles.
well sheeeeeeeit I should have guessed it was engine limitations all along
It's a system designed in 1994 for the sole purpose of determining which country should get upset about UFO activity in its airspace. Some jank is to be expected.
>cont.
> Pirate Straits
You get a few 'piratey' guns (blunderbuss, handcannon, boarding gun) and 3 hoes. Unfortunately, you can't pimp them outright, you have to go through the whole tech branch first. Probably best used as research items for tech unlocks. The northern half is in South-East Asia, while the southern half is in Oceania (sea ops). Getting underwater missions that early isn't a great boon, however, since they're difficult without proper gear. Radar coverage-wise, it's a bit out in the sticks.
> Turan
Same as Central Province, the western half is to be avoided. Your starting items are 3 Turanian Gals, slightly better versions of Hyena Riders. Nice thing about them, they're self-researching: all the recruitment dependency techs can be obtained by repeatedly researching a Gal (research doesn't consume). Their stats are phenomenal for early-game units, and recruiting also gives you a decent weapon panoply to equip them with. It's like having your own Reaper Cavalry, except with a right proper musclegal rider, instead of a shitty autogun-toting ratboy. They do have a few downsides, though. They're 2x2 units, so only one fits in the bus, which means less training for your (other) infantry gals (and less overall battlefield presence). Early on, your alternative transport options are very limited. You have the Raiding Party (which you get from researching the Gals themselves) which can carry all three (but no other gals) but is painfully slow (same as other ground-based expedition/convoy-style craft). The only other (faster) option is the Harvester; that one requires taking the Peasant path. Another downside to the Turanian Gals is their squishiness. While they do have a whole bunch of starting health (anywhere between 170 and 190, I think), they lack armor (they're basically naked) and have little in the way of resistances to common weapons.
>cont. x2
>cont. x2
Asia has two notable countries: Fuso and Turan. Fuso is more straightforward: good melee weapons, an early event gives a bit of cash, gates some techs, only downside is radar coverage placement. Turan has the potential to be better, at least early on, if you can work out the logistics of carrying your Turanian Gals to the battlefield, early enough for them to be relevant. Their utility drops later on, due to their squishiness. Pirate Straits is adequate, but it's mediocre coverage-wise, and the hoes are only good for research. Eurasian Autonomy and Central Province are meh. Ghostgates would be a reasonably solid starting position, *if* it had a location that wasn't in fricking Central Asia.
Turan also gets ore ore random event which costs you 100k each time it fires. Can be super annoying in early game. Still worth it though for the hyenas.
Oh, yeah, it has a 75% chance of occurring, and it can fire from the very first month (execution Odds 75 first Month 1).
so I understand now that ghostgates' bonus is to offset the huge penalty of central asia to some extent.
If you place your base right here you can start as south-east asia and still get ghostgate slaves avoiding the tax, it's fairly small area if you go a bit further to the east you will get "none" country bonus.
posts like this and that other guy's guide to starting bonuses and what they actually mean are why I go to /vst/
Worst-case scenario is a hideout in Western Turan. Having both the capitatory tax penalty, and also getting hit with the Ore-Ore event could potentially lead to a game over.
Happy New Year guys !
And to you, friend.
I'm trying to get back into pixel art, I wish I could do the lighting that well. That art rules btw.
>That art rules btw.
It was made by Dio when he was young. I had no idea how to make a helmet so he sent me this
still quarter of an hour left for me, but happy new year to everyone! also, nice art
Piratez
Why does my equipment resets everytime I start a new battle?
You need to set equipment at base
shieeet, thanks Bossu
the onsen's description says it's a "cultural center", so does this mean i can use it to replace the mess hall? sure i'll lose a brainer but i need the space anyways.
Yes you can, but the mess hall also provides gambling services, which you'll need for (surprise!) gambling. And researching the Cinderella Project.
have not even touched gambling. is it important?
Not really, no. You eventually unlock the Casino building, which has a VERY good income of over 6 million, which can pay for pretty much any hideout by itself, and you can dump one in every hideout.
Beyond that, you [might] get some good gear every now and then if you dump 100s/1000s of chips into it, but most of it is trash and the rest is research fodder. Becomes exponentially more useless as you tech up, as only the best and rarest coupons give anything decent.
Still, dumping 100s/1000s of chips isn't expensive at all since you'll be swimming in the things between loot and money purses/bags. Up to you, you can always put a mess hall in another hideout.
>and you can dump one in every hideout.
The frick you can. Those high tier credit chips are a pain in the ass.
Here, you can have some of mine. It's an old save, I don't need them anymore. Honestly I have a tougher time getting all that damn glamour.
For me the $200 credit chips are the worst part, but that's because I've tried to build the casino before the mint like an idiot.
Eventually you can make them yourself if rng fricks you up with no obsidian chips. And for red there is mint. For the first casino I just stop selling purses and bags of cash and just open them for chips.
I remember getting more money when extracting the bags/purses and selling the chips individually.
Gambling is an easy way to get weapons and gear far beyond your current tech. But sometimes you don't get anything at all. It's a gamble.
An important thing to remember, mess hall is required for captain's log 2 and it will frick you over if you destroy mess hall and find yourself stuck on it. The unlocks needed as well as requirements are not very intuitive.
Happy new year xcoomers
I have seen the light.
Specializing each troop of your squad is important.
What’s the appeal of xPiratez?
Shitloads of content, some of it actually good.
More (content) bloat than a vore thread.
Goofyass lore.
Playing as musclegirls.
Stealing everything, whether or not it's nailed down be damned.
Handheld nuclear weapons.
breasts.
breasts Everywhere.
Even the fricking loading screen has breasts.
Murdering SpaceCatholics to steal their shotas and flamethrowers.
Caught in the middle of a race war, culture war, AND guerilla war, first two aren't even your fault.
Catgirls and goblins.
Hm, it looks interesting but the better question is that can I customize my character’s physical appearance? Aside from the muscles n shet, I’d like something more delicate. I did play XCom files and had a big fricking blast playing that
There’s anime stuff in there as well? Tell me more about it.
you can choose paperdolls which affect how character looks on battlemap(mostly hair and skin color tho)
there are also many different races to choose from:
>musclegirls
>humans both sexes
>catgrils
>goblin girls
>ogres(big mutant males)
>grey-man hybrids
>can I customize my character’s physical appearance?
Not exactly but you can pick from like >100 different avatars, it changes face hair and skin color but all of your mutant girls will still be big and muscly.
>There’s anime stuff in there as well?
Various bootypedia articles contain anime images, mostly because the dev guy cannot afford to hire a real artist so he uh pirates art from the internet and uses it in his mod instead.
>it changes face hair and skin color
It also changes boob size in some cases
>hiring a real artist, when the average artist will charge $50 per colored image with one character in it in the modern era
Listing a couple of examples, this is the Red Mage. She can help you with all kinds of voodoo (psi) stuff.
And this is the princess of Canadia, Aurora. She will mess with you, so I hope your bases can handle missile strikes.
I hate her so much but then without her would you even bother with the shittastic flak towers?
Even on jack sparrow you won't build flak towers because overcharged radars are better.
One kit is useful for prison. Towers are worthless, yeah.
Towers are good for having a chance to splash Ratman revenge raids in one shot, but other than that I have no idea why they need to cost a kit when a radar is much more complicated than 'gun that points up'
If you aren't on Jack sparrow you will probably only see missile strikes after you've advanced to the era of cannon defenses and laser defenses.
If you are on Jack Sparrow, return to Jesus.
seriously people go on about the breasts in this but personally whatever coomerism gives away to sheer tactical sim autism that is natrurally tanted by all the sillly supernatural shit. personally i find the peasent women and goblens to be most attractive personally even if catgirls are pure fricking crackhead murder demons
For me, it's seeing existing characters being repurposed in the mod for other roles like the Golden Witch here.
I love the setting and how hard the game is.
does the flow of the game punishes me if I decide to take my time researching superfluous stuff and doing easy missions early on in Xpiratez?
You can avoid some specific research topics (which activate certain plot scripts) for a while, but the game flow eventually starts throwing harder stuff at you.
Maybe a bit, but not too badly.
Some research orders are necessarily going to be better than others. Rushing something like the Workshop or School Graduation as soon as possible is going to place you on much better footing than randomly researching whatever looks coolest at the time. However, even pointless-seeming research topics can end up contributing to something important later on, and very few things are completely useless.
So long as you don't get completely fricked by the RNG (which is mostly a risk in the very early game, before you have reserves), there's enough leeway that you don't have to take the optimal path.
>implying you can rush workshop which is gated by guild stapler
The real punishment for not advancing is getting lesser access to more infamy and better rewards.
You're basically going to want to rush to:
Bounty Hunts
Monster Hunts
Bandit Camps
Toppling Towers
Warehouse Wars
and
Krazy Hanna
This is why I'm apprehensive to reset my current run. I've gotten monster hunts, bandit camps, toppling towers, bandit camps, highway houses and bounty hunts already. I /really/ don't want to give up those, even if I'm really forced to with -1100 last month and a starting -500.
Worse come to worst, at least it'll be over soon if it goes badly.
yea 🙁
Good luck!
starting new run let you apply experience you gained and reach them faster
you get new experience and get better anon right?
you didn't save scum(too often at last)?
not as much as i did in base game, lmfao, but still an amount
you should play Ironmutant
that way you learn fast(or die fast)
>save file corrupts
>hundreds of hours lost
never click the ironmeme button
never happened for me, well once happened but that was all on me and I just send file to some guy on discord and he fixed it
you can also save manually just by coping ironmeme save file
I've had openxcom corrupt files for me before, it can happen and will happen in the least opportune time.
stop alt+f4 rage quits
but yeah just play honestmutant then
Never happened to me. My Ironman record is at 2 ragequit the campaign, 1 lost.
I kinda wanna play a bit of a scenario in Piratez about making my hands lose to something so shitty like squatters, and pretend them being humiliated and fricked repeatedly by whoever they went down to, reducing themselves to bawds who used to be ubers
that is what happened to all these gals that you can save from red districts
Why am I seeing nothing but trader ships
Girls???
Skill issue.
But yeah, I got that in my last game. April or May or something. You can check the charts to see where the enemy missions that are tanking your score are happening, but knowing doesn't mean you can do anything about them.
I'm still holding out hope that there's some bug in the latest release that makes the game ultra hard for some reason, so that it wouldn't be my fault, but I don't really expect it.
Started a run on the newest patch, this is 1st jan 2602 and I got some infamy hit in april and I was trying to play the best I can, this is not my first time playing and this is on difficulty 2 john silver. I don't think anything unusual is happening.
yeah, i got a big old infamy hit in april (see
)
EITHER it's a bug or it's intended. knowing dio probably intended
Oh? The game over ending is no longer just the vanilla one with changed text?
My infamy suddenly tanked and my crew sent me to the plankey plank...
Any tips on how should I do my loadouts for my gals/cats/whatever?
And forgot image
bringing a spare magazine is optional and only really needed for either long missions or weapons with very low capacity. two is overkill in almost any situation for something as high capacity as the tommy. the big first aid kit is generally bigger and heavier than you'll usually need, but if you want to take them, they can actually fit in the wear slot. carrying a bottle of alcohol to deal with stun can be handy, you won't need it often but when you do you'll be glad to have it.
>Spare mags are optional
Until you need one and don't have it. It costs you nothing to carry one extra.
They have great aim and shit HP, so I try give them long range weapons. Snipers or assault rifles, depending on what I have.
In terms of basic utility I think every soldier needs a molotov, a smoke grenade, a bottle of moonshine (or equivalent +energy stimulant), and a lethal melee weapon (if possible).
I prefer the 2x1 bandage kit with 4 charges because you can put it in the belt and then have three spots left open for 1x2 items like moonshine, dagger, stun baton, etc. I stuff grenades, ammo, or extra bandages in the leg/shoulder/israelite slots.
I know you're just asking but it always makes me laugh when most xcom players just instinctively carry way too many reloads, 2 extra mags on tommy means you would have to stand still and just slam auto fire for 15 turns straight.
For the most part you don't need to carry reloads at all with exception of single shot weapons like rocket launchers or some shotguns that have 2-6 shots, that 50 round drum mag? That shit is never running out in an average mission, and even if it does you probably have 5+ other people carrying the same thing they'll back you up.
What do I need to research in order to get my first armed craft?
That depends, the wreckage aircraft and the little bird are fairly early in the research tree but they're trash.
get contacts: car thieves so you can get an aircar
Aircar sucks balls, the next tier of electric vehicles (smugglers? the one where you get pachyderm) is where you finally have a chance against anything besides ratman and necropirate bands.
>pachyderm
Where are you going to get a heavy weapon to fit on it? The ramjet cannon costs more to fire than you're going to get from downing most UFOs.
Just go for the Codex, and the craft you get from that.
But what if you Reject The Power?
you lose any benefit that the codex might've given you in exchange for... i don't know, because i never do it
>in exchange for...
The privilege of using ninja cd guns with no way to make more ammo ever besides looting.
it also gives you:
- a recruitment craft that gives you a ONE PERCENT CHANCE TO GET A GNOME
- a gnome quest for a unique bike, the highway star
>a gnome quest for a unique bike, the highway star
Got that last version and I picked grey. Unless it changed in N3 it's not unique for no codex.
oh, so even less reason to go no codex
What if you aren't a fan of your destiny being engineered by inscrutable alien intelligences, and think the Star Goddesses should also GTFO? But yes. It's a challenge path, and a means of not completely breaking research if you sell the key or hull.
The problem with no codex or jack sparrow or male path or any other "challenge" mode/research is that it really only makes the early game hurt more, once you get past that they all play pretty much the same.
If you go no codex the biggest problem is obtaining air presence because you get no codex crafts, no menace and the only way to build hunter killer which is the first reasonable craft you can get your hands on is by repeatedly interrogating the gnome which has base research cost of 20, so your air game will suck for a long time unless you get lucky with the gnome.
I remember playing it long ago and couldn't decide what codex to choose so I continue playing without choosing. Was using mass Piranha(I think) to take out enemy bigger crafts
What is to go "no codex"?
Playing piratez by ear(and heart), not consulting the research tree for the optimal route?
Another question, how do you play tactical missions? Swat tactics hoplitean hyper efficient autism? Middle ground or no plan at all?
sell the drill/menacing hull, research ?Reject the Power? instead of ?Embrace the Power?
No Codex is 'reject the power'.
"How do you play tactical missions."
Depends on what you're doing.
For example, a gals only player is going to have a different run than a Male Touch/Lokknars Only/Peasant Revolutionary.
A melee only gay is going to be an ambusher/rusher by nature.
A sniper is going to want to secure sight lines.
Etc.
>Lokknars Only
there is goblin path now?
self imposed challenge probably, the only shit I saw was gals, peasants and SSes for the initial recruitment research
>self imposed challenge
but why?
why not?
Maybe he has a midget fetish?
I do have a thing for goblins but that won't make me play lokks only.
Hey, same reason why people do no codex, male touch, peasant revolution, cats only, et cetera.

isn't this a best route for now?
The Codex is an artifact of knowledge and power you unlock in the early game. You can skip it for extra challenge. You shouldn't, since that's the boring route, but you can.
I try to clear maps systematically, but there's little point in making concrete plans since they're usually at least a bit random. The enemies act more or less randomly too, which is sometimes indistinguishable from brilliance. You just try to push into the fog of war without exposing yourself too much, use cover and concealment, watch out for enemies randomly meandering to flank you, and keep your gals close enough together that they can support each other but not so close that they get taken out by a grenade.
> a recruitment craft that gives you a ONE PERCENT CHANCE TO GET A GNOME
According to its description, the Flying Dutchman event gives you 7 Gnomes (and a Noblewoman). Has it been changed in the last update?
meant the uh, cindarella project, not sure about the flying dutchman
Oh, right, the Cinderella Project. That one's a crapshoot, you receive a capitatory tax, plus 98.5% chance of nothing.
I was referring to an event (75% chance) with 7 gnomes, one noblewoman, and a broken-down ancient airbus (big, holds 11 troops, has humongous range, but is really slow).
You can also get an event where you receive 7 heroes (and their quad bikes), but that one has an absolute shitton of prereqs (including Male Soldiers), and is on an expiry timer (if you don't have all the prereqs before the intended month, it's gone).
i desperately await for male soldiers to be finished (also REB to be finished too i guess)
Then you're deliberately trying to make things harder for yourself, so using Pachyderm as your only interceptor aircraft probably helps in this.
You can get those anyway, Reject The Power just acts as a shortcut.
wow
>aircar sucks balls
>really fast, easy exits, and wins aircar missions before you'll even have a hope of having a faust
Okay kid.
the codex craft are the real benefit from that research, jellyfish punch way above their weight because they have shields and can't be detected
if money isn't a problem, is there any reason not to recruit as many people as you can? as in, are there any secret penalties for having too many people?
The rank system costs money so you do have to pay quite a lot for high ranked troops but if you say money isn't a problem no, not really. I tend to hire hundreds of people even if I won't use all of them.
Money will be a problem early on.
The 'secret penalties' are that any troops that rank up start costing more.
The more troops you have, the more higher ranked soldiers you can sponsor.
Essentially, death by a thousand cuts.
Also, you'll probably want to save some living space for runts unless you're doing a craft free base.
if you have to ask that question, money is still a problem for you
the only thing i'm actually asking is whether or not there's some secret event designed to frick you over if you hire people too fast.
No such thing. Just upkeep, it's not secret and you can look it up at any time.
>started new run
>its one of the best run I ever had, beat first pogrom in january and maxed brainer on 1st february
>wished that I recorded it
>think about starting new run and record it with some commentary and put on youtube
>i am sure i gonna make stupid mistakes also don't want to abandon current run
sigh

has shitlarius unfricked the manor cancer yet?
>manor cancer
how it was cancer?
It's adds even more tedious busywork to a game already overloaded with it, more hidden metagamey mechanics with manor growth timers, the missions themselves are poorly balanced, the non-UFO UFOs clash horribly with the rest of the airgame, and the Fish Rape Society/Moon Sect/Gopnik Mafia having bigger air forces than most first world countries doesn't fit in the lore than the game established for them.
It was added for the sake of adding more bloat, it doesn't improve the game in any way.
>It was added for the sake of adding more bloat
so? it fit x files like glove to the hands then
Which research topic unlocks the first tier of craft weapons?
There's several ways to get them, outlined in the "We Need Craft Weapons!" report.
I can't go past June, what gives?
I'm getting -2000 infamy tanks in both may and june. I don't remember this behaviour in previous versions. Guess I'm just bad
What difficulty and what version?
UNEXCOM is fun! As someone who's basically only played piratez/40k/other moron megamods, it feels like this is approaching something resembling the actual original game.
Humanity's greatest weapon is the 40mm grenade launcher.
