Well thanks for wrapping that up OP. Case. Closed.

It's playable. Characters and story are both shit, though. Probably the worst game I've ever played to completion. (Meaning it wasn't so bad that I wanted to drop it.)

Pretty much. It's like an offline MMO. If you like that you'll love it while I hated it.

It's an FF title people seem mostly indifferent to

    >b-but you can make the game play itself
Yes, that's what's so good about it

    I mildly hate it
the god awful MMO zones are an atrocity
The story is very short and very simplistic
    Hunts are weak filler
    Other elements OK

It's 2010's mmo kino but without the grind of finding groups or leveling before content. You don't even have to grind to beat the end game, people do that shit at lvl1 for a challenge.

Probably the most forward-thinking JRPG of its time. I don't think real-time combat has been done better with the JRPG formula.

    >Dude what if we made literally half the cast be inconsequential to the story
    >Dude what if we made multiple cutscenes where the main character has no idea what's going on and just stands in the background while people who matter speak
    >Dude what if we made a character who's literally just a random girl off the street with no important qualities outside of an extremely large ass
    >Dude what if we made a character with an interesting and nuanced backstory and then only let the player use him in one dungeon, at the end of which he dies
    >Dude what if we made a villain who has zero emotional connection to the heroes and doesn't even meet them until the last ten minutes
    >Dude what if we took an established setting with a million interesting species and then only included humans and bunny humans as playable characters
    >Dude what if we gave the narrator a comical Apu accent
    >Dude what if we made a complicated political plot and then ruined it by turning it into standard ancient god shenanigans halfway through
    >Dude what if we made a plot where the heroes have almost no impact on what happens until 95% of the way through the story, and they spend their time tromping from one ancient temple to the next
    >Dude what if we took everything 100% seriously and had zero levity outside of Balthier and Cid
    >Dude what if we wrote all of the dialogue to sound like a Renaissance Fair
    >Dude what if we we had no overworld and all travel was handled by a menu or floating teleport crystals
    >Dude what if we made a battle system where you set everything up in advance so that you don't actually play the game
    >Dude what if we made a level-up system where all of the characters become literally identical in function
    >Dude what if we made summons useless except for opening doors
    >Dude what if we put all of the interesting and unique content in sidequests
    >Dude what if instead of having fun side games like the motorcycle chase and Triple Triad we had nothing

You grinded levels until the game could play itself with just autoattacks, we get it. All this copy pasta does is explain how bad you are at the game.

Thats what happens to your brain when youre used to the generic JRPG formula and expect the same from FF12.

It wasn't a final fantasy game. If it didn't have the name I wouldn't have cared much either way and would have been all for it for the 7 ft tall bunny lady in lingerie who sounded like Bjork but it did so I dropped it 10 hours in and frick that game.

      define final fantasy

Up until then it was 4 homies in a row and they all had world maps, you controlled all four of your homies and they were off on a world-spanning adventure to change the fate of everyone. They changed too much shit at once and these changes didn't jump out as being super awesome things that were worth changing. I haven't met many people who grew up with FF that took kindly to 12 when it came out.

10 didn't have world map and it was limited to 3 homies
Many of the earlier games had 5 homies instead of 4 too.
These are some moronic ass things to define the franchise with.

The number of homies stops mattering so much when they drop it down to only controlling one at a time in a fight. Ask anyone who'd played from the nes onward if it was a FF game to them.

              >when they drop it down to only controlling one at a time in a fight
The hell are you talking about, you can control everyone at once in 12. Press left or right.

It’s true that the 7ft sex bunny carried most of my intrigue. But there’s simply not enough of her flashing her poonanners and arschloch to make the game worth playing through for very long.

It’s the birthchild of FF9’s ugly aesthetic. People say FF7 ruined final fantasy but really it was FF9.

12's aesthetics are inspired on Tactics and has the same character designer as that. Nothing to do with 9 really.

9 is derivative of 6 to the point where the protagonist does the same furry power ranger henshin

    very good
if you don't enjoy political intrigue and fantasy geopolitics and meaning-of-life plots your brain is going to melt the moment the Star Wars veneer is shed (about 10h in)
satisfying combat, good job system, bunny ass, the best voice acting of any FF game Fran's voice is like butter and Balthier's a fricking G
my advice is to mostly ignore gambits, they make the game less fun

I also understand why other FF fans don't like it, the way the story is structured is very different and I can understand people feeling alienated by the Ivalice style.
It's much less about the characters and their personal struggles and arcs, although that's still there.
The criticism that holds no water is the "Single player MMO" line that is never qualified with any examples of MMO gameplay. People who say it can't even qualify what the frick MMO gameplay is.

Should have been an MMO, the world building was cool. It looks and plays like an upgraded FFXI. Once you realized that, it makes sense why Vaan is a fricktard who's just there witnessing major events and not an actor. The moron is meant to be (you)s.

Too easy for the options the game gives you in combat
Cool setting but you don't even get any of the weirdos in your party
    So pretty standard for FF

is bearable, the gameplay is dogshit even when the job system is good, some characters hard carry the game.

That's every Final Fantasy game. Play it yourself and decide for yourself, don't parrot or mimic other ppl's opinions or go along with the crowd
