Zoomers will deny it but it really is. You're basically constantly fighting in the original and if you're not fighting you're getting funny cutscenes. In the remake you want to avoid fighting half the time because its a chore and there's very dry and safe walk and talk segments instead of cheesy cutscenes.
I mean shit you can reach AND clear the village in the time it takes you to just reach the village in the remake and that pacing holds throughout the game.

what I dislike most about the remake is that your cross hair is just stuck to the center of your screen and you aim with your camera, whereas in the original you actually aimed from Leon's position.

It’s the campiness. Imagine if the original tried to sell you a serious plot. The tank controls too. They’re not hard at all to play with (despite what people say), but that constraint to Leon’s movement and mobility puts an extra amount of pressure on you when fighting ganados and it’s both immersive and more fun that way than the control scheme in the remake.
The Remake is okay for one or two runs. Separate Ways is objectively better experience than the original version (which was not too different from other bonus modes Capcom was adding to their games back in the day). But OG still is more fun game overall, has better Ashley escorting, gunplay and atmoshpere. Also, much better sound design and music.
The original is over praised the story and almost everything is bad only the feel guns sounds and edgy and banter and look of the game/design of things voice acting etc is good
You can tell the OG release is perfect because it has the absolute peak of game design: QTEs. A feature praised for decades STRIPPED to dumb down the remake.
The remake is just a waste of effort and yet another talentless slopfest from capshits interns to force out a zimba game once a year, instead of putting in actual effort into a single one of them.
I cant be bothered to go into all the ways its bad (it isnt all bad but seeing as it how it has a fricking existing blueprint to work off of, it shouldnt be bad at all) but playing this again recently made me realize that Krauser was always the worst part of re4, even the original. He just doesnt add anything to the story, is completely contrived cringe and his bossfight is not only drawn out shit but feels like a massive detour with abysmal pacing. The island wouldve been the best part of the game had it actually been all about the industrial warehouse/lab aesthetic instead of dipping into the shit outdoors military sequences let alone the weird eqyptian ruins bullshit with krauser

I like both about the same, but not because they’re similar; they’re different enough to be their own things. The remake isn’t a replacement, has its own mechanics and level layouts. The thing shared is mostly story, mechanic “ideas”, and overall areas/aesthetics.
