The difference here was that he left Capcom before this was complete so they just canned it entirely, especially since Legends was a straight up passion project for him. If it's affordable like the other collections if like to play them again and I missed a couple of them. The Switch is a bit too big for the comfiness that was playing these on my SP as a kid though.

It's surprising they aren't including star force as well since it's only 3 games and being a followup. Considering the collection is a year away (my guess, they're actually translating the bn6 removed content since that will probably be the version of bn6 japan gets), and star force would require a lot more editing to remove touch controls unlike how easy it was to do for the zx/zxa games.
But then again, Capcom is kind of shooting themselves in the foot if they think they can sell a collection of only 3 (not very cared about) games on their own.

The year is 20XX. The whole world is built around a literal internet of things, and most people carry a Personal Terminal (PET) around with them.
Technology brings a lot of convenience, but cyberterrorism and viruses cause havoc, so a ten-year old boy and his NetNavi (Net Navigator), have to jack into all kinds of computers and devices to fix these problems, ranging from a home oven spewing fire, to a city's waterworks system not pumping out clean water, to taking back control of a hi-jacked flight plane.
So you get to run around both the real-world and cyber-world doing typical JRPG adventures, side-quests, item collection, battling, but where the game really shines is the battle system.
Each battle starts with you selecting a number of Battle Chips from your Folder of 30 chips. You start with a pretty basic folder that you build over the course of the game.
There are basic rules in place that determine which combinations of battle chips you are allowed to pick in a turn, and then you play in a battle on a 6x3 grid separated into a pair of 3x3 spaces. If you run out of battle chips in a turn, you have to rely on MegaMan's buster, which can also be upgraded, but has less damage potential.
The depth of the battles greatly improve over the course of the game and the series as a whole, as multiple new mechanics get introduced such as panel types, status effects, customization systems, form changes that vary game by game, and more.
It's generally recommended that you play the games in release order. If you don't get on with the first game, rush through it and ignore the side content and move onto the second game.
As for recommended versions, it can be a matter of preference largely.
For 3 specifically, Blue is generally considered the best version as it includes an additional boss fight, and has one notoriously useful battle chip.

There's like 3 of those sequences in the whole game and while two are frontloaded, the only thing you get from doing well on those is a meager amount of extra bugfrags. They're not even fights. S ranking Liberation Missions requires both prior planning and for the virus/miniboss battles to go well.
s ranking liberation missions prior to the postgame nebula area ones requires gitting gud and literally nothing else
those are easier, not like liberation missions are hard mind you, they also turn off the random encounters when you are doing them
This collection got me feeling down since it reminds me of my childhood, waiting for a new game each summer and looking forwards to growing up and being happy, but I want to kill myself, but not really since that is dumb, due to how I'm 29 and a massive disappointment and the future is only getting worse by the day. Not just chips like Uninstall or AntiNavi, there's PVP Navicust programs too. They put thought into it. A lot of thought? Maybe, maybe not. But people enjoyed the PVP (perhaps not as generally on Ganker), so not including online play in some capacity would be unfortunate.

Probably a moron. I remember struggling a ton with Nebula Grey in 5 as a kid. Played a few years ago, and realized I was so shit back then. As a kid I'd only ever use HP/Attack up programs and chips with high damage numbers. Never realized how good folder flow and navicust programs like custom or floatshoes were
White actually does have harder set encounters compared to Blue funnily enough

I don't know, I found alpha pretty tough my first time through since I didn't really grasp that you could find enough chips to make good single code folders. Maybe it's moronation but it was the first battle network I had and I just didn't know about a lot of the chips you could find to make competent folders

also whats the actual difference between the different GundelS chips? do they last different amounts of time?
Pretty sure it's same amount of time but the damage it does in that time increase with each version

In BN3 pvp you can hold left during a time freeze chip to take half damage (told ingame from a BBS message). BN3 you need the other version to get the mega complete star and play pvp to get the balance/deltaray giga (not required for 100%). Point is the game encouraged multiplayer.
