Top tier: Heironeous
High Tier: Tyr
Mid tier: Paldine
Ass tier: Iomedae
Out of those four at least. I'd say Helm and St. Cuthbert could also be designated paladin gods who are more on the LN side of things.
>Ass tier: Iomedae
I can’t hear you over all these sonic attacks because I don’t know Iomedae trivia.
Don't insult asses by comparing them to Iomedae
i never played pathfinder so this is a honest question, is she really that bad?
No.
But that's not how you start a kissless meme
Most of the jokes surrounding her stem from one absolutely atrocious published adventure where she summons the party to her realm and essentially blasts a divine airhorn in their face every time they
>answer a trivia question wrong
>aren’t sufficiently deferential to her (and her standard for “sufficient” is insanely strict)
>ask her for details about the quest she’s sending you on
for potentially lethal damage. This might fit a LN autistic deity that cares more about procedure that goodness, or a distant one that has forgotten mortals can’t survive repeated blasts of 12d8 sonic damage, but Iomede is (supposedly) a LG deity that is closer to the mortal races, so she just comes off as an butthole that knows exactly what she’s doing.
It was also changed from a draft where there was less damage and less strictness because some of the writers were of the opinion CG is the only good.
Paizo's original management are really ideologically committed to not-extremely-extreme early 2000s leftism, so SJW-ism minus the clout-chasing bullying and activist histrionics where everything is a crisis that needs to be stopped NOW. And with just enough juvenile edgelordism.
Their first AP's early villains were of young people with bad relationships with their parents who want to get grand revenge on society. Gayness existed. There was "Diversity" in the sense that there were lots of defined human ethnicities and nations that had distinctive enough character, so you'd see PoC PCs with regularity, organically. But there were still butt-fricking hillbilly ogres. Really, thinking back on it, it's a time capsule to a better world.
It all just sounds like whoever wrote the module is a That GM and does the classic denial of information to the players in fear of them figuring things out too quickly
Heironeous is the best.
He was just a vanilla mortal who was such a badass paladin he ascended to godhood as a result.
Special props to Hector for being such a good enemy he did the same.
Weren't they born as gods? It was Murlynd who Heironeous sponsored to godhood.
Just raise the One True Paladin to godhood for your setting
>Blade with whom I have lived, blade with whom I now die, serve right and justice one last time, seek one last heart of evil, still one last life of pain. Cut well, old friend, and then farewell.
It's more or less what I did. Just slowly but surely working your way up to godhood is how a paladin would go about it.
Iomadae looks weak to anal.
She's just weak to wiener in general, absolutely built for instant lost
everyone is weak to anal
Not me. Anal makes me stronger
>He died from the sword of a woman-worshipping paladin
Joke's on you
Yes every person was created by a woman
From, not by.
>paladine
damn did they have to come up with that 5 minutes before closing on a Friday?
My groups Gorum worshipping fighter calls Iomedae Iomebae whenever the Paladin heals or gives buffs.
Haha yeah symbolizing justice as a woman, that's just silly.
Yes, it is, Augustus literally just pulled that out of his ass
damn that probably hurt
Probably not, he was roman
Justice is female in latin
I always found Helm and Lathander to be more iconic as gods for FR paladins. Tyr is just one of these lazy copy-pasted gods from real-world mythologies the FR has.
Oh, and Torm of course.
Nah, the triad is peak religious order for paladins.
>not Ilmater
Honestly FR's pantheon might be crowded but there's some fun stuff in there.
SHAGAILA
>He doesn't want to worship Lawful stupid joan de arc.
Cringe.
I don’t know if it was real or just a meme but isn’t her Int stat canonically single digit?
considering how she behaves in the encounter with players in the 5th crusade book might as well be
Desna and The Dawnflower are both objectively better goddesses than Iomommydae
Sure, Desna is a CG liberal hippy but she's very active in the planes and even went down to the Abyss and nuked a Demon Lord once when she got pissed off.
Sarenrae believes evil things can be redeemed but if they won't do so they should be obliterated.
And both of them do these things without getting ruined by modern NUPathfinder writers.
Tldr if you to be a LG Paladin swear to Sarenrae or an Empyreal Lord like Rahathiel.
Plus Desna gives you a Redeemed and purified CG Succubus wife. how can other gods even compete?
Sex with knight ladies
I prefer the sun/agriculture God becoming the paladin God, not because he represents Crusader shit, but because he represents the common man
Case & point is Pelor
This. Desginated paladin gods are boring, because there's nothing there. Pelor lets you play at being a farmer himbo, Cuthbert lets you play at being a autistic lawyer, etc.
Sarenrae is the Paladin god in PF.
If using a real life god, I don't get using Tyr when Astraea has statues everywhere to this day.
Because she's a woman and woman of justice is a funny, but nonexistant concept.
That b***h is supposed to be a god? She looks like a basic ass knight.
she was. she was one of a number of mortals that beat a giant deathtrap and got the magic meteorite in the center that grants divinity. she was a famed knight that took the challenge, ascended, and was a heraldic force for the god of humanity before he got murked 100+ years earlier. she is called the Inheritor because she absorbed much of his faithful after the fact when she became a capital D deity
Trithereon is my go-to Paladin of Freedom god. Love mr no step on snek
>he doesn't aspire to eventually frick the qt justice goddess
Pretty gay ngl
Million dollar question (valued as in 2045): what god that would be in pic related?
Judeo Christian God.
>Be human in the Cthulhu Mythos
>Go to Dreamlands aka Lovecraft's version of the Wizard of Oz/Alice in Wonderland
>Become a God/achieve chim
>Save large swathes of humanity by getting them to leave earth for the dreamlands
>Be Lovecraft
>All above is canonical in your setting
>Kind of kill the general tone of "humanity is totally fricked" with previous canon possibilities
Still love the idea of the Dreamlands. Kill anyone who hurts a cat.
Unironically Nodens is the closest mankind will get to a benevolent Paladin type. Though a Paladin of Kthanid would frick pretty hard too, even if he's far too mellow and loving to be a real "Paladin" type.
Imagine fricking worshiping a dragon as a god, peak cuckery. Apparently some people think they should receive protection from a symbol of monsters rather than symbols of humanity. It's totally fricked-up.
Stop playing D&D/Warhammer shit. Not all pantheons are anthropocentric.
Imagine being some pleb who dislikes human-centric settings.
What do you define as a "human centric" setting? If it means the major players are humans, I'm fine with that. But they're also far better off as a noble and sparse species too, and if you disagree you're an oversocialized gay who can't appreciate solitude and stillness.
frick off with your human centric setting, play a fricking osprey game if you want to aimlessly cuck about like real life
Why would you worship something pathetic like some guy, when you can worship a dragon?
Gods are supposed to be simply very large and powerful humans, and thus entitled to rule humans. Having non-human abominations as idols of worship fricks with that fundamentally, not to mention that there is no context or logic for relating to them or even believing they would have your best interests in mind.
There is no logic for believing any go's would have your best interest in mind. So you may as well employ that wishful thinking for the impressive gods, rather than the ones which are just some random dude in a robe.
>Gods are supposed to be simply very large and powerful humans
You might want to take that up with IRL people first before you start insisting it is a rule for my imagination.
What do you mean? Absolute majority of IRL gods are humans of various sizes, animal things are much more rare.
>women are gentler than men, and thus will be less prone to causing mass destruction and death when mankind inevitably fricks up somehow
>women inspire protective feelings in men, thus soldiers who feel that their religion is being attacked will feel more motivated to protect it
>women, especially motherly women, give comfort to men, thus a man can go into battle and die knowing that his momma goddess will be there to nurture his soul in heaven should he die
>women inspire unity and peace between peoples, a mother never wants to see her children fight each other, and so she will encourage them to hug it out and get along
Clearly a goddess is better than a god.
Bunch of disney fairy tale crap. Women rulers are more warlike, this is a proven fact of history,
female rulers are easy to manipulate and emotional which leads them to being fricked around with and the country being ruled by their advisors.
My only god is Bahamut.
>is a dragon
>good
What else does one may wish for?
Love how Iomedae looks
Hate how moronic she is
>God of Paladins is named Paladine
Wow imaginative.
Can't wait for the rise of Wizardberg the magic God and Rangerkov the Ranger God
The god of Athens was called Athena...
it was named after her literally
For me, it's Zarus, the solar deity of mankind.
this guy is unironically cool. he deserves a much bigger role with a giant fantasy roman empire having him as their main deity or something
I'm using him as an antagonistic god for my current party of Pelor worshippers.
I mean he's cool but he's also denying me the right to have sex with dwarf and elf hotties AND THAT WILL NOT STAND
I mean you're already being filtered by human chicks, why not get filtered by other subhumans like dwarfs, elves, and chinese?
Iomedae is an awful goddess because trying to take the single minded devotion, obstinacy, and drive of Joan of Arc and applying it to a divine entity kind of fumbles the ball both on what a D&D god is and why Joan was so compelling and captured the imagination of even avowed anti-Papists like Twain.
Either go pagan in your influences or literally go with the Saint Cuthbert "This is an actual Christian saint who worships the actual christian God and he was sent to this setting to do good.", which is insane but it's a likeable Greyhawk insane.
>the Saint Cuthbert "This is an actual Christian saint who worships the actual christian God and he was sent to this setting to do good."
wait is that really cuthbert lore?
It's not explicitly spelled out but he shares the name with an actual saint and some of his origin myths involve him being some dude isekai'd into Greyhawk.
There was also a scenario from Dragon #100 where the PC have to recover Cuthbert mace from earth in a museum in London.
Iomedae isn't a goddess who happens to be a paladin, she's a paladin who uses divine providence to prevent herself from falling for her actions.
You bow to a queen because you holds a higher station than you, because it is tradition, because of social norms & expectations, & because she can exercise power over you to do so.
I imagine a goddess would be much the same.
>You bow
stopped reading
God I hate Iomedae so much, initially I thought it was my GM roleplaying her badly, but turns out she's unironically CE by paizo is just that in her sheet appears LG
>she's unironically CE
What's wrong with her?
From the short encounters you have with her in the modules:
If you don't answer to her questions in a way she wants (doesn't matter you're telling the truth, you're being reasonable, or whatever) she tortures you. If you don't answer at all? she tortures you. But if you lie, she tortures you anyway. She wants of humanity to be mindless little drones and anyone who disagrees, even if it's on what are you going to have for breakfast she tortures you, she's incredible pety, arrogant, b***hy, she care not for human life for her they're just toys (and she's the goddess of humans mind you). I never understood how any of that is considered LG
Owlcat completely changed her to a waaaaay more reasonable and kind god in Wrath of the Rigtheous game adaptation. She might be disappointed at the character's decissions but she's aware of your free will and lets you continue with your choices and never bothers you again if you don't side with her
Thank you for an explanation.
meanwhile the demon lady gets redeemed and becames the Goddess of redemption by the power of doing nothing to grant said redemption arc
>Iomedae
>clearly latin inspired
>pronounced eye-o-meh-day
>not yo-meh-deye
I've always pronounced it eo-meh-deye
>vais vursa
>boneified
>purr say
literally emasculate all anglos
>>per se
anyone who uses this regardless of pronunciation is a gay
Torm>Tyr
Which war gods exist in settings other than the Forgotten Realms for my fighter and barbarian bros.
Gorum from Pathfinder is basically if Khorne from warhammer was not evil.
"BLOOD FOR GORUM", is literally something the barb lady shouts in the patnfinder game btw lol .
Dragonlance has Kiri-Jolith who was a pretty good dude, especiallly by Dragonlance god standards
Kord from Greyhawk is based
I remember seeing an old >TFW comic with him edited in and tellign the reader to man the frick up
Eberron has 3 of them as a part of their most common pantheon of Sovereign Host (and the related Dark Six):
Dol Arrah is the LG goddess of sun, justice and sacrifice, your default "paladin god" (or would be, if the Silver Flame wasn't a thing) in the setting. Represents just war, defense of innocents and similar concepts. Favored weapon is a halberd.
Dol Dorn is the CG god of strength and warfare proper: you know the type. He's the martial champion of the pantheon, and his favorite weapon, longsword, is also used as a favorite weapon for the entire Host. Orcs know him as "Garu-Umesh the One-Eyed", clearly Eberron's version of Gruumsh.
The Mockery, originally known as Dol Azur, is the NE god of betrayal and dishonorable combat, but can also be interpreted as god of WAAC. Per the Host's mythology, he betrayed the other two, was flayed and kicked out of the Host. His favorite weapon is kama, and he's got monks and rogue/assassin types worshipping him (they also like to partially flay themselves and their enemies in his honor)
All three are considered siblings, and there's a sect that worships all of them together as Three Faces of War, but generally, worship of the Mockery, like the rest of the Dark Six, is frowned upon amongst civilized people (monsters or goblinoids are a different matter).
It's highly likely they are (like all Sovereigns) based on legends of ancient dragons fighting against the fiendish Overlords before recorded history.
Gorum. BLOOD FOR GORUM!
path/starfinder has a lot of diety's that tread on the war/battle domain across all kinds of alignments. in starfinder specifically, the vesk (lizard warrior men) primarily worship the LE damoritosh the conqueror, whose purviews or conquest, duty and war. he's the sort of god that demands victory but also that violence and domination are done with reason and sensibility, the sort of god that hates reactionary violence and demands subjugation that is practical
Coolest god in tabletop fiction
>nihilism is like...lol bro
>the universe is gonna die one day lol...
>nothing matters lol
>just spends all day staring at Pharasma's ghostly breasts
>just spends all day staring at Pharasma's ghostly breasts
You are talking as if that's not peak of existence
Reminder that Bane has paladins, at least before the game and setting went to shit.
And Iomedae is a worse paladin deity than Bane.
Still mad they didn't include any of the cool gods as possible choices in BG3. Absolute fricking ass that you can't be a Dreadmaster of Bane or Nightcloak of Shar or whatever the frick of Mask.
>Verification not required.
I think you can be a bane cleric in bg3 but there's only like 1 unique dialogue for it
The hag lady basically calls bane lazy and you a larper
Nope, it's not an option. There's not a single cool deity available. Only maybe Lathander as the classic natsoc choice, but none of the edgy-cool ones. Not a single one of the Dead Three (Bane, Bhaal, Myrkul), no Jergal, no Cyric, no Shar, no Mask. Even if you're a proper Drow your only choice is fricking Lolth.
?feature=shared
I mean she literally mentions it here
Yeah, I don't really give a shit, it's still not an option, man. Not sure why you're doubting me when anyone can just pull up the fricking deity list and tell.
Cool things are racist and last century, chud.
Enjoy your bear fricking.
I dunno who is that dude, but that's not Bane. This is Bane
Bane?
Surprised no one has said King Arthur yet?
Not a god
>Was a paladin of Heironeous in life
>Plane traveled to the world of Boot Hill(TSR's wild west RPG) and discovered guns. Brought them back to Oerth
>Helped seal away Iuz
>Was such a chad that Heironeous sponsored him to godhood after his death
>Gets his own paladin order called the white paladins who are artificers that use guns
>Symbol is just a sheriff's star
>Homebrew 5e rules give him his own paladin Oath, Oath of the Marshal
Why is Murlynd so based?
I wish my DM would let ,e plau a Paladin-Wizard in a cowboy hat
For me, it's Raziel. If another Celestial entity wants to come along and provide me with more Smite 'n Cleave power than I get for being a Fist of Raziel, I'm willing to listen. Honorable mention goes to Faerun's triad and the very stylish Triadic Knight with its Three-fold Smite ability.
