This game fricking sucks ass. Why did it ever gain a cult following?

Did you really have to post the exact same thread again?

Currently playing game myself and everything you said is absolutely correct but there's this a nice charm to it that keeps me interested. The game could've used like 3 extra months of polishing in terms of improving the enemy variety and fully realizing the aesthetic but I think it's worth playing in the end of the day. Definitely not a "must play" though.

Same, though for me, the real meat of the game is Extreme ROTT. Being tile based, it's ideal for Kaizo levels and was maybe the first game ever to get a Kaizo level set as an official expansion

Every thread you make equals more sales for the inevitable remaster

The remaster came out two weeks ago. Which is also the first time he made this exact same thread after playing it for the first time ever

What's the song on map Fire and Brimstone and where can I get it?

It's all about dat soundtrack. All time classic music that polishes the turd of a game.

Either that or it's just that classic FPS games are plain fun.

It is the simplest an fps engine can possibly be and still have good gameplay. Wolf3D, too simple, no verticality, bad for multiplayer if it had any. ROTT adds verticality with GAD stairs/bridges, includes CTF and other game modes standard. Not the best 90s shooter but a fun game in multi, a cool curiosity and lots of amusing gimmicks

Ironically/paradoxically, ROTT had one of the most diverse multiplayer modes up until almost a decade later.
It even had weaponless MP modes.

Yeah, this is what kept it alive at the LAN parties I went to (I am old as frick). The extra game modes, and the fact you could have 11 players, vs only 4 for Doom. Remote ridicule was also popular and spammed incessantly. Nobody cared the levels were all cubes because nobody looks at the level in multiplayer. The singleplayer was simply not as good though. The extra level geometry complexity in Doom made a lot more varied enemy encounters possible and felt less samey/bland by far.

I like some of the music. I thought these were the best ones. First one kind of sounds like some kind of advanced megaman tune

civvie's uses that last one as his outro, he's done some rott vides too that were fairly good

i think this one might be about the latest version, i haven't seen it yet

Thank god the OST slaps so hard or this game would probably have been forgotten by now

Because despite the signs it was still stuck on the old Wolf 3D engine, it still has a ton of shit you couldn't find in vanilla Doom.

Did the devs ever say why they added so many features to the Wolf3D engine but never added diagonal walls ?

It would have been even better if they let you dual wield it, like the pistols. Maybe as a limited time power up or some shit, like in Blood.
