Why would anyone defend game sales that are included as part of a bundle? It's obviously not a bad thing, but certainly not something to tout as a defense of the games sales.
The cope is you care more about sales than if the game is good. Mario rpg is a forgettable baby game everyone already forgot about. FF16 still has daily threads and still lives rent free in tendies heads just like Rebirth will.
The only people that report sales as sold are digital only games. Games that are done digitally and physically are shipped and everyone company reports it as such.

I wouldn't say I was necessarily disappointed by it but I wasn't impressed either. When you switch to the old OST and think "the old one might actually also look better" you kind of wonder why it was ever even made. There's not even any meaningful difficulty options or new content, it's just a boss rush+ mode.

The moment it was announced I put myself on a complete Ganker embargo thinking that it would be worth it, only to find out it's the almost the same game, but with inferior music, inferior sound effects, inferior graphics (higher fidelity isn't better when it sacrifices the style), inferior gameplay, inferior UI, and inferior experience. I'm convinced that either the people that made this game didn't love the original, or that the nintendo mandate is real and the developers cared but were choked into delivering this mess.
RPG was a great game, I still love it. Not touching the remake because I rather play the original but I would absolutely play and buy a sequel.

I haven't played that trash so no. I just expected everything at described to at least me at the same level of the original, not vastly inferior to it. The music specially is unacceptable. It boggles my mind Yoko Shimomura could come up with this garbage.

This remake is kind of complicated because there's more to the doing it for the money answer, this and the first Paper Mario are arguably the only non-handheld mario games where it makes sense to re-release them in a more "high profile" way like this instead of just selling a ROM because not too many people got nostalgia for it in the first place (specially SMRPG for EU people)
This is gonna be one of those things where it's good in retrospective, people thought this game was untouchable because Square "hates" nintendo, maybe the company had doubts for years about it being too niche for a mario game and this proves them wrong, maybe it will help them to notice people want more games like this but we also haven't seen anything from 2D zelda in a while and that does much better so who knows if they actually had any plans about this besides just re-selling the game.
It's also about to outsell Pikmin, and has already outsold both Xenoblade 3 and Engage. It will probably outsell TOK. One of the highest selling Mario RPGs already.
