Over the shoulder

Why did it take so long for third-person shooter developers to understand that they shouldn't obscure the things you're trying to shoot? Most TPS games before this just put your character in the centre of the screen (which is moronic).

Over th shoulder is just first person but you can see the back of your head. Appealing to FPS gays homogenized the genre from its roots. Halogays flocked to RE4 because scawy games like gun valkyrie, winback and psiops were too complex for them.

      >gun valkyrie
One of the worst controlling games ever made. What in the absolute frick were they thinking designing a game where you have to hold the stick in a direction and press it down hundreds of times in a single level?

Why do people still think that RE4's tank controls weren't an intentional, and meaningful part of that game's design?. It takes all of 5 minutes for a player to get used to RE4's tank controls, I did it when I was 8 fricking years old. Unless you're a shade of brown, you should be able to do it.

You are supposed to play FPS.

OTS is just FPS with a tard running in the corner, and just as FPS, pure garbage. Go play Halo if you can't control a character in 3D space.

Overhead is better. It gives you a superior view of your surroundings without your character obscuring a quarter of the screen.
RE4 is deliberately claustrophobic as it's grasping to some of its horror roots, but it's not the best way to handle 3rd person shooting.

This camera angle makes you feel so disconnected from the character's actions and as a result the games just don't feel good to play like RE4 does.

By your own reasoning SOCOM must feel better to play than RE4 because it also has a 1st person view option, just so immersion autists like you can feel even more connected.

SOCOM doesn't even have first person gun animations.

Correct, it uses a James Bondesque view from the gun barrel, without any pesky models or animations that might break a sperg's immersion

      >without your character obscuring a quarter of the screen.
RE4 had mandatory widescreen for a reason

There's an Atari Jaguar CD game called Black Ice, White Noise that would have pioneered the over-the-shoulder third person camera if it hadn't been cancelled before release.

Almost any important innovation and soul in the world comes from Japan, as everyone knows. And they just aren't that interested in shooters, so it took a long time for them to shine their brightness on the genre.
