They should've kept it as it was in OW1, and just put in the Orisa rework and add Junker Queen.
There’s problems with just the core design of the game
Ultimately, it’s built around Ranked, which in itself is a mess of people not understanding why they are going down, staying the same or even in some cases understanding how they’ve got up ranks.
But then most people just want to have fun and play Quick Play instead. But the same limits apply, only now you don’t get to swap sides. If you think you’ve got the stronger team and narrowly a defence map on overtime, you don’t get a turn on attack for revenge to try and do it better. You could in OW1 as it kept you in the same lobby. Now you barely have enough time to type GG and get banned for typing it before everyone is kicked back to the lobby.
Role queue also means that games can be decided by your tank player. Often I’ll lose because the opponent has the sense to swap to counter our tank, whilst ours stays on what they’re doing despite get bodied hard. Made worse if it’s the type of tank like a Defending Rein who just keeps charging off into 5v1 fights alone.
And some characters are just flat out stronger than others due to Blizzard being awful at balance. Hog is flat out useless now, but I know when he gets reworked, he’s going to be broken. Then some reworks completely change the character. If you liked original Orisa, new Orisa may as well be a new character that you have to completely change how you play.
I could just play No Limits… except because they don’t give out characters for free now you have to do the shitty battlepass, if you only play casually you’re forced to play standard mode for something like 40 wins per character (even if you never lose, that takes a long time) just to play new characters now.
And frick the store. They somehow made loot boxes amazing in hindsight.

Now that the owl is dead (hopefully) they're still stuck in this mindset that the game needs to be competitive when every time they've pushed the competitive angle it failed.
People were only watching the streams for the free drops, we know this because the teams were hemmorhaging money, no one was buying the jerseys or merchandise or anything, they just sat with twitch open and farmed the owl points, no one fricking cares. I remember a story xqc told where they were brought out onstage and looked at the crowd and all the chairs were empty except a few and everyone on the team knew this wasn't gonna be sustainable.
That compounds with the issues that the heroes were just kind of made based on their designs and not their gameplay/the gameplay of ow itself, moira being braindead easy, brig dominating the game and needing to be nerfed 20 times, sticking with the sombra hacking shit even though it's completely unfun and most people hate the hero, DF having a oneshot after getting rid of hogs oneshot because it was 'unfun' rendering hog useless because it's all he can do without ult.
