Sadly Pacbros are not experienced modders, it took like a week for one guy to model swap Pac-Mom with Ms. Pac-Man in Museum plus. The community just hasn't had a reason to mod games until recently, unlike Sonic fans.

The people responsible for designing Pac-Mom are trying to achieve a New Coke effect here, by making the design look ugly and stick out like a sore thumb in order to throw gasoline onto the Ms. Pac-Man backlash and force Bamco to actually do something.
I think it's reasonable to assume that Bamco would have the power to easily buy out the royalties from AtGames, but Japanese worker pride is getting in the way (i.e. they tried to get Ms. Pac-Man's royalties for free, and when AtGames asked them to pay up they threw a b***hfit and treated everything as an all-or-nothing situation, leading to where we are right now.)

I had way too much fun laughing at those silly laughs and their wacky AI that would just bounce each other off the tracks with some clown cars just spawning and falling into the abyss missing the track altogether. It was really interesting since that was around the time I would open the disc tray and see the track just end abruptly because it was not loaded in to the memory when I was farming over 20k lives because it was fun lost my save unfortunately due to corruption. The clown levels were hard back when I first played it.

All shading is still there, they just don't want it to look ultra dark like back on Wiimake. It should be obvious when you go to La-Lakosha pendulum section and all leaves shading are dead clear on the ground

Intro looks soulless and the Ms. Pacman incident is a shame but at least the gameplay looks faithful and the bad parts (anubis rex/ clown race) seem improved.

The question is, how high are Namco's expectations? The World games were never really big hits overall, so I don't know if they're either looking for better sales than the original or about the same
I think the expectations are going to be reasonable, as it's a 30 dollar game with not much marketing behind it that releases in 2 months. Unless you count Museum+ as marketing for this game, which in that case Bamco is playing 4D chess.
That's another thing: if they remake World 2, they'll probably have to cut the arcade room and make a different use for the coin collectables

Looks cool, but the missing nose feels a bit empty. I am digging his machine gun pellet attack, hopefully new moves are added to preexisting ones. Maybe have him a bit more challenging considering all your family and friends heal you when you take enough damage expect pooka as he sometimes bugs out and just doesn't heal you at times in the original ps1 version
I find it interesting how the original was developed by Namco USA while this remake is being handled by Now Productions in Japan. Pac-Man and the ghosts designs have all been updated to match the current style guide of the Pac-Man series that we see in all the stock art Namco uses. Hopefully the World remakes succeeds to Pac-Man has a future beyond "remember the arcade game"

Why would you ever expect Pac-Man to have a future beyond that. The arcade game is basically the base foundation of the entire IP. Pac-Man isn't some platforming mascot like Sonic or Mario. He's like the character equivalent of Tetris.
A remake of World is cool and all, but this is clearly a small project made to score some nostalgia bucks from 2000s losers, not some Ghostly Adventures-tier "next step" for the series.

Not sure why you're telling me this. I guess you think I'm saying there's no future for Pac-Man platforming games when my point was that Pac-Man is never going to be more than "remember the arcade game" as you put it. That's just reality. There will always be diversions here and there for the character like Pac-Man World itself was, but at the end of the day the IP will always fall back on the arcade original in some way no matter what, because that's just what most people associate with Pac-Man. Hoping that the series will one day "move beyond" or whatever just sounds silly.

I feel that Ghostly Adventures gave Pacman some much needed expansion in terms of what he could actually DO. Mario jumps, Sonic runs, Pacman chomps. So they decided to just go off from there and give him a full on poweset.

I think Spooky would've been good enough to take that role, but it seems there aren't any consistent villains in the series outside of the main four ghosts.
Doesn't really have one. The only consistent antagonists are the ghost gang, but they're more troublesome rivals than villains.
Some eras tried to give him one (Mezmeron in the HB cartoon, Ghost Witch in the SNES-era games, and Betrayus in Ghostly Adventures) but usually any game with a larger villain would be a one-off character who by the end of the game would be imprisioned, redeemed, or fricking killed.
Here is how I would reinvent Pac-Man. Lemme copy-paste something I wrote once:
Here is how I would re-invent Pacman.
Take his basic concept. Mazes, ghosts, eating, and powerups.
Now apply all of them into something that pushes the boundaries by bringing us as much stuff from Pacman's previous games as humanly possible.

>Power ups are important as usual. You have the standard energizer, which lets you eat ghosts instantly. But you also have a ton of other stuff that gives you both ways to fight better and traverse the stage. Ice attacks, fire, turning into a rock, flying, etc.
The whole point is that all of your moves are used for both traversal and fighting. That, and how all of his moves are just expanded things he could do in the past

The face has too much detail, it's uncanny. The teeth look like shit and the boots are trying too hard. The individual fingers make his hands too busy compared to his body plan.
Even if it's passable at best, it's hated because it's inferior. Don't fix what ain't broke, that goes doubly for Pac-Man, one of the best character designs of all time.
