They aren't decreasing the amount of servers in a good while, there are still hundreds/thousands of player characters saved on those servers even if nobody is playing them. They haven't figured out how to move that data and store it somewhere else.

I don't understand, people buy the game and you are expected to have room for them, a room that costs a fraction of that cost to keep up, the more players the more you earn and the more you have to pay but its the same fraction. Over time less people will play so less amount you have to pay aswell.

Completely doable offline. I put in over 100+ hours in my own world so far. But you can at any time invite a friend or 3 to join you. I think the world can keep track of up to 20 (you can have 20 people in your guild). Bosses are probably based on solo play so having even a buddy helps a ton.
If you had a friend joining your private world/server and wanted to level them up fast could you just catch tons of pal 10 sets (10 lamball, 10 cattiva, 10 enkdeer, etc) and leave them for your buddy to pick up? Would that give them the 10 caught bonus?
I play a shooter from 2015 that has been updated until 2024 and had regional servers with less upkeep costs.

you can solo it but the last ones are damage sponges on a timer so youll have to grind bullets and some good pokemon
