Legit question. Why should it be free?
Developing features and updates to a game costs money. I think it makes sense to charge money for that in some way.

      Anonymous

Why should the air you are breathing be free? Other living creatures need air too so start paying.

        Anonymous

So you think developers should be working for free? Or publishers should swallow the cost of developing updates because...why exactly?
You see, this is exactly the thing people mean when they say gamers are "entitled". You need a reality check from time to time, that things cost money, and developers/publishers are not your friends, and don't owe you shit.

you would have a point if this thread talked about actual content

            Anonymous

How is day and night cycle, or anything there isn't "content"? Just because you don't like it or don't need it doesn't mean it doesn't cost resources to implement. If you don't like it you don't buy it.

              Anonymous

              >If you don't like it you don't buy it

                Anonymous

Well, what is the realistic alternative in this case?
Why should they make it free when it costs money to develop?

                Anonymous

Because following your line of reasoning everything should be sold separately, from every element of the map graphics to every single game mechanic.

                Anonymous

That's not it at all, you misunderstand my reasoning. You get all that in the package when you buy the game. I'm talking about everything that is developed AFTER the game is released.

That is because in order to continue updating a game and adding whatever content to it, costs money.

                Anonymous

Everything up to release also costs money. Do why not just release an unfinished, broken, feature-stripped beta as your "retail version" and then keep selling basic features you were expected to work on during development as "extras"? Oh, wait, that is exactly what Paradox does, and it's exactly the kind of practice your moronic logic leads to.

if you don't count cosmetics content, then it shouldn't matter to you at all if it costs couple bucks or not.
like it or not, it still costs money to make that stuff that you don't personally count as content.
just ignore it like normal people do when they see something sold at store that they've no interest in. instead of going full moron about "I DON'T EVEN WANT THIS STUFF BECAUSE IT'S USELESS, BUT I SHOULD GET IT FOR FREE ANYWAY"

No-one here will engage you fairly because they're all poorgays.
Regardless, shit like this is exactly why Paradox has a bad rep. People don't mind paying for things they feel are adding significant content to the game - I don't play this game but I assume that would fall under things like new buildings, factions, systems, etc. If Paradox were a smart business, they would garner some good will back from their customers by also releasing QOL updates like this for free for everyone. This is just an adjustment to content that already exists in the game.
They should be sending a message that they care about existing customers as much as their whales who buy every piece of shit they release, and that paying for DLC funds development of not just new and shiny things but improvements that everyone can enjoy without being nickel and dimed.

Now this actually makes a lot of sense, and I agree with you.
However, still for whatever reason Paradox chose to charge for it anyway, and I feel it is still well within their rights to do that.
But saying they are wrong for charging for it, shaming them, and expecting it to be free is coming off wrong and "entitled" to me.

Paradox is not alone in this, other strategy game devs have this type of behavior, for example this one sells "game engine upgrades" that are essentially glorified patches. Publishers of simulation games are even worse, selling you vehicles one by one at exorbitant prices and even their community is shite with paid mods out of the ass

        its a map game, anon.

Paradox map games had day and night cycles since they went 3D, obviously for free

I'm not asking for anything. I'm telling you why it is like it, and I'm legitimately curious what justifies it being free. Or learn what exactly are you proposing in this case if you don't think it should be free. Because the complaints just don't add up to me.

They can do whatever they want but as a customers they can frick off if they think they can sell features that should have been in the game day one to me

          Anonymous

These remind me of needing to buy all map packs to play ranked games in Halo 3.

          Anonymous

no they haven't. that's only hoi4. it has hourly ticks. the others usually do daily ticks, so a day/night cycle is literally impossible to implement. vic3 has i think it's 4 ticks per day, so they can do it.

      Anonymous

Because they pull DLC like this all the time, then the next game is mysteriously missing those features just so they can sell the DLC again.
