when this shit happened to me it reverted gmod in steam, switched to x86 again and ran CEF. idk but it worked for me. anyways heres a tutorial maybe youll find something in there https://www.solsticegamestudios.com/forums/threads/tutorial-gmod-cef-codec-fix-windows.1158/
Unfortunately the script does byte patches to the various game files so you cant manually drag and drop that easy and it has a bunch of different phone home checks so if youre having errors connecting to github for whatever reason its also borked. It also doesnt work on windows 7 due to the compiled python version being updated to a version that artificially doesnt work on 7 to maintain a console color dependency and recently they made the script use the latest CEF version which blocks 7 too. Try validating your files in steam and redownloading the exe from github to make sure shit isnt going wrong. If youre a lincuck make sure youre using the native linux shit for both gmod and the fix.
Somehow as I'm typing how it's not working, it just so happens to start working.

Its harder to maintain a server with such a lower player count. Theres a rush at the start but most give up when they cant get in. As it gets boring playing the same 6 maps people start funneling out and theres no one new to replace them. Most of the maps already feel empty due to the limited player count but once you get under 10 the barrenness makes people leave faster. You'd have to really love the raped state the dev put the game in to enjoy sub 5 players. If the password was left out it couldve gone on for longer but with such a low max player limit non-/v/irgins mightve taken up precious slots during the start. Its pretty typical for variety nights to die early. Ignoring Gmod, the HL1 anniversary was probably the longest a sunday van has maintained an almost full player count in a long time.

I started playing this the past week, and it's actually legit fricked that I've ran into a few quite blatant cheaters. Just running around with dual pistols and getting near 100% accuracy without stopping. Suspiciously good players who have past VAC bans when you peep their steam page, and so on.
Those are just the ones who aren't even trying to hide anything, I always assume for every blatant cheaters in any FPS, there's 1-3 more that are just being subtle about it. Using a wallhack or whatever.
The game is filled with Discord kids organizing sessions to dunk on everyone using cheats.
