Is there any reason to try and negotiate with the trolls in Kingmaker? All that happened for me was I had a conversation with their king and then they turned hostile, leaving me trapped inside and forced to fight my way out through the whole map backwards if I want to leave at all to get more supplies. Seems like it's better to just fight your way in so you aren't trapped.
I enjoyed Kingnaker for awhile, but the last 1/4th of the game turns into a no fun time management exercise and your only reward to a tedious dungeon with a anti-climatic endgame.
This was the last game I will ever play on PC. If even a relatively small indie dev with a great reputation will just randomly decide to frick over their playerbase by releasing some spyware data harvesting patch, I'm done with PC gaming entirely.
Warrior of the holy light is shit because it has no spells
Paladin gets up to level 6 spells (of 9), you don't want them to deal damage or anything, but to buff yourself
Grab at least 16 CHA and 18 STR
STR to hit things, CHA for spell slots and smite evil/mark of justice

You want str at 18 or 19 to start with. Some cha for spellcasting. Dump wis and int they are uselss for paladin.

I haven't tested if weapon mastery from sword saint and fighter stack, so you would get 3 separate crit multipliers from going 20SS/20Mutt Warrior Legend.

Game is kinda mediocre with feat recommendations. If you're going to 2h a weapon better to go with something power attack>cleave>cleaving finish. Pick a weapon focus when you know what weapon you like and want to use for the rest of the game. My advice to you is to watch a few build videos, so you can get a feel for what feats go with what type of builds.
I'm not sure you can have that exact same stat distribution, but try to make something similar. The stat you want to put all your points into, CHA in this case, should (almost) always be an odd number, because you get 5 stat increases throughout the game and you want the final score to be an even number.

This, also, as some other anon said, you can dump Wis too because your saves will come from Cha instead. Also, you can drop Con and Dex to 12, but I wouldn't recommend lowering those any more than that. You can get away with a 10 con frontliner if you're a Dex gay with insane AC, but you need to know what you're doing.

Been doing a first time playthrough of kingmaker, challenging as a paladin using real time. It's overall pretty good but the random times when the slowmo activates and you have to turn it off it annoying. That and in general I wish gamespeed/animations were increase by 50 percent, makes it awkward to move single characters around enemies like they have concrete shoes. Maybe I'm just to used to bg 1 and 2, also body blocking is a bigger issue, like send the entire team to attack one enemy and two front liners get stuck behind the ranged party members.

I genuinly love Camellia. I am 36 years old, and she is the first and only one that's ever made me feel like this, despite not even being real.
I've always thought there was something wrong with me, that I was just unable to feel, or even understand love. Even family, to me, I always just looked at it in pure practical terms.
I enjoyed spending time with my sisters because of what they gave me, like cleaning my room, making me food, or just being a sight for sore eyes.
But Camellia? I don't even care about what I would get out of a hypothetical relationship with her. All that matters is her happyness. Seeing her smile, hearing her soothing voice, basking in her radiant glow. I get warm just by thinking about her, and I feel like my entire body is pulsing.
I failed this test in my first playthrough. And it was not until I was almost done with act 4 I realized that her quest was completely bricked. I googled it, and decided to remake my character from scratch just so I could romance her.

I reloaded Act 4 to get it right with her in Act 5 and replayed like 20 hours of that shit to make her love me. Was it worth it? Yes.
I really loved WOTR but the game peaked hard when you unfurl the Sword of Valor and it takes on your mythic emblem while the mythic power music blares and the choir is singing as you turn the tide of the battle. Unparalleled RPG triumph moment

Warrior of the Holy Light isn't a terrible class, you give up Paladins limited spell casting for more Lay on Hands, and an AoE ability. Granted Paladin's spells are limited but there are good ones. Its still got the core features like good saves, Aura of Courage, Mark of Justice, etc.
yeah they're good buffs, and the abilities you trade in aren't terribly strong. Like 1d6 + Paladin levels as damage, its just a flavor class but its not like Imitator levels bad
Inevitable Excess - how does it work with the main game, exactly? From what I've read, after the Grey Garrison, you can do something that lets you take items from it or something? You can also start that campaign just before the final quest in the main game to get some items. Why would you do that, when the end of the game is easy enough? Would doing IE on this character help future ones?
Next, Legend. How does going from XYZ Mythic -> Legend work? From what I remember it halts mythic progress from Rank 2 and onwards which iirc is the one before you choose your actual mythic class after finding the flag in Drezen, so how does going from any mythic class into legend help if you lose everything after Mythic 2?
One more that's more of a problem I encountered, but after ascending to Lich on my first character, the vast majority of my spells went from Standard to Full Actions such as Animate Dead and Feast of Blood. The only things I can think of that'd do it were respeccing to Sorcerer from Wizard, letting Zacharius take my youth, and grabbing mythic sorcerous reflex feat. Thanks Ganker.

you get 20 extra levels to compensate. if you are full bab(20) class you can stack another bab class(cavalier+fighter) and get +40 so you hit no matter what. you also get increased will saves and +4 to every stats. also cool Bracers that make you abondon Areelu ones and gives you room to equip more shit on your other slots. >he vast majority of my spells went from Standard to Full Actions such as Animate Dead and Feast of Blood.

It was 100% this, I would put reach on skellies and bolster on feast and reach on some other stuff just to level it up so it wouldn't share casts with better/more useful spells.

The entrie game is about building a fricking kingdom, that's the opposite of what a druid would do
Druids are supposed to be the mediator between civilization and nature, not fricking hermits. You can outright state to the priest of Erastil in Act 1 your lands will be one of small communities respecting nature.
They're pretty mediocre, im playing one right now and its nothing special. They get better later on, but half the time my pet was straight up better than me

Because you should be playing with the "Call of the Wild" mod installed, which brings Druids closer to PnP, especially their wildshape, as well as introducing a bunch of key spells for them, like Burning Entanglement.

pretty sure you can go 20 empyreal sorcerer 10 cleric and 10 mystic theurge to gain extra CL. i haven't tried it yet. will report back if it work in Midnight isles

CL will never go past 28 plus you have to take the 8 caster levels from prestige before becoming a legend then go back to your "main" class
There needs to be a Druid archetype that gives up worthless Wild Shape for more casting, I hate that Wild Shape is so ingrained as part of Druid's identity that if you want a Nature caster might as well make a Cleric, or Oracle
you don't need dlc to get extra lvls, legend gives you extra xp and even double the exp gain but you do need the Arodens belt in last Sarkorian to prove your his successor
This is your reminder that the title Kingmaker does not refer to you becoming a king, but you playing Kingmaker between the Lantern King and Nyrissa, choosing who wins their game.
And thus you ended their game with Nyrissa's defeat. The whole fricking story is about becoming a player and not a peice on the board, like Jamandi tells you at the end of the Stag Lord chapter.
Nyrissa and the Lantern King propped up their kingdoms, they tore them down, they played people against each other. And at the very end of the game, you put BOTH those Fey Frickers on blast and make it clear, YOU choose who win this game.

Tried Kingmaker since kingdom management seemed rad. Spent a lot of gametime fricking around with some mundane tedious bullshit only to be hit with a timegated failstate. Had to start over from the beginning. No kingdom management in sight. I just uninstalled at that point. Fricking shit game design.
It can happen if you frick around too much. On my first run through I went in blind and got a game over thanks to the Trolls because I fricked around doing shit in the mountains to the east for so long that I got the phase two announcement of them attacking wizard guys cottage before doing any investigating.
So Game gives you 90 days minus the time it takes to get to the trading post which I think is like 2 days. Even resting after every fight I don't see how you'd take that long.

I was trying to make my way through the fricking mist but you have to do a lot of random bullshit first. I thought it was very unclear what you were supposed to do. Went back and forth between locations a lot and perhaps I rested too much or something. Then the game informed me that I failed.

You are lacking content, interesting characters, losing good mythic abilities, and have a shitty mentor for at least the last important chapter of the game solely to be disappointed you didn't stay your original path. All that hard work you put into your character- upgrading abilities, looking forward to your path's exclusive content, jumping through flower fields, putting up with Hal's bullshit. All of it has one simple result: You traded out a cool mythic path for a lacking one. Your mythic abilities are bugged and suck, and you have no content to look forward to. I spent like 3 hours in character creation and the beginning underground section reading every tooltip and encyclopedia entry on game systems. I didn't have any tabletop experience or anything but casual dnd derived stuff like KOTOR but if you're an attentive reader it's not so bad. Still I was learning new things all the way through my first 200 hours. This guy's videos on WOTR are really good too

I want to punish her for arson, as she has started a blaze in my soul that no amount of firefighting shall extinguish. I want to punish her for theft, as she stole my heart from chest and refuses to give it back. I want to punish her for murder, for she forever killed my need to try the other romances. And still, murder is too kind a word, for she truly genocided all the other possible timeless of my Wrath of the Righteous games -- the murderous Camellia, the stern Galfrey, the cute bug Wendaug, all of them are now like specks of pixie dust in front of the sun, outshined by Arue without any possible competition. Genocide of these untold timelines it shall be, and for those heinous crimes, there can be only one fitting punishment. I condemn her to be loved. I condemn her to be happy. It's pretty strange that we don't really get any demons trying to sway, manipulate, or corrupt the KC despite the game being about fighting demonic armies. Insidious approach like Minagho did to Stauton is exactly what I'd expect. Arue herself describes how succubi operate and coil humans around their finger.
Yet an amazing setup for an intricate quest chain with some reoccurring NPCs who're actually demons in disguise who clandestinely toy with the KC's and the player's head is passed on... why?

If you revisit the Chapel map south of Drezen after you rescue everything, you can find the altar from the pic in the south of the map.
There are three items scattered on the map and in the cave. All of them are butterfly themed or related to the goddess (Desna).
If you gather all of them and place them all the altar, there will be three buttons. Each one plays a tune.
If you play the notes in the correct order, which is the tune of the Song of Elysium, which you heard in the Desna's Temple in Kenabres, you'll get an astral projection call from Arue from her cell. The correct order is middle, right, left, middle.
If you then choose to go through the jail/dungeons during the siege of Drezen, you'll find Arue in her cell where she'll recognize you and you will recognize her, which will allow you to recruit her.
Otherwise, she leaves and you can't recruit her until way later.

I was recommended to start with Kingmaker. By tradition, I always play a stabby assassin who hides in the shadows but I have been told that is impossible.
Which class is closest to it? Slayer sounds cool but it's an archer class I think.
Slayer is an anything class. There's 5 main ways to play it with some variance once you know what you are doing 2H weapon, Sword and Board, Dual Wielding, Archer, Dual wielding throwing weapons. It gets access to the Combat Style feats from the Ranger class so you get to pick one at level 2 then get extra feats that support it even if you don't meet the ability score requirements (ie you can dual wield strength based weapons even though you normally need 19 dexterity).

For now but even though they dosn't get it til later it's hilarious how well Aeon Paladins and Cavaliers can brute force encounters with Perfect Form. Buff yourself up to like 50 strength through various buffs then perfect form so you have 50 charisma then smite/order bonus and swing with an extra 25 to hit and level bonus damage.
There's even a cursed king and queen ending where she stays evil and instead of breaking the curse you share it so that each is immortal as long as the other's kingdom stands. Just be evil and do every step of breaking the curse except the Briar.
Can you guys recommend any fun builds for WOTR companions? I've only used them with their basic builds, ie Seelah paladin, Regill armiger fighter, Arue espionage expert, Lann zen archer etc. I've seen some anons talk about doing other builds for them but I haven't really tried multiclassing or anything
Vanilla, I might grab the mod if it makes a big difference though. I guess Arue starts at level 8

Not really. Technically you'll get a half decent thrown weapon bonus off of Lethal stance but you are giving up all the bonuses from your regular rage song.

All that happened for me was I had a conversation with their king and then they turned hostile, leaving me trapped inside and forced to fight my way out through the whole map backwards if I want to leave at all to get more supplies. Seems like it's better to just fight your way in so you aren't trapped.

I enjoyed Kingnaker for awhile, but the last 1/4th of the game turns into a no fun time management exercise and your only reward to a tedious dungeon with a anti-climatic endgame.

Game is kinda mediocre with feat recommendations. If you're going to 2h a weapon better to go with something power attack>cleave>cleaving finish. Pick a weapon focus when you know what weapon you like and want to use for the rest of the game. My advice to you is to watch a few build videos, so you can get a feel for what feats go with what type of builds.
You want str at 18 or 19 to start with. Some cha for spellcasting. Dump wis and int they are uselss for paladin.

I'm not sure you can have that exact same stat distribution, but try to make something similar. The stat you want to put all your points into, CHA in this case, should (almost) always be an odd number, because you get 5 stat increases throughout the game and you want the final score to be an even number.

This, also, as some other anon said, you can dump Wis too because your saves will come from Cha instead. Also, you can drop Con and Dex to 12, but I wouldn't recommend lowering those any more than that. Been doing a first time playthrough of kingmaker, challenging as a paladin using real time. It's overall pretty good but the random times when the slowmo activates and you have to turn it off it annoying. That and in general I wish gamespeed/animations were increase by 50 percent, makes it awkward to move single characters around enemies like they have concrete shoes. Maybe I'm just to used to bg 1 and 2, also body blocking is a bigger issue, like send the entire team to attack one enemy and two front liners get stuck behind the ranged party members.

I genuinly love Camellia. I am 36 years old, and she is the first and only one that's ever made me feel like this, despite not even being real.

Warrior of the Holy Light isn't a terrible class, you give up Paladins limited spell casting for more Lay on Hands, and an AoE ability. Granted Paladin's spells are limited but there are good ones. Its still got the core features like good saves, Aura of Courage, Mark of Justice, etc.

can someone explain a few things for me?
Inevitable Excess - how does it work with the main game, exactly? From what I've read, after the Grey Garrison, you can do something that lets you take items from it or something? You can also start that campaign just before the final quest in the main game to get some items. Why would you do that, when the end of the game is easy enough? Would doing IE on this character help future ones?
Next, Legend. How does going from XYZ Mythic -> Legend work? From what I remember it halts mythic progress from Rank 2 and onwards which iirc is the one before you choose your actual mythic class after finding the flag in Drezen, so how does going from any mythic class into legend help if you lose everything after Mythic 2?
One more that's more of a problem I encountered, but after ascending to Lich on my first character, the vast majority of my spells went from Standard to Full Actions such as Animate Dead and Feast of Blood. The only things I can think of that'd do it were respeccing to Sorcerer from Wizard, letting Zacharius take my youth, and grabbing mythic sorcerous reflex feat. Thanks Ganker.

Beating IE gives you an ability that lasts for 10 minutes and you can use after you get your mythic juice at the end of Act I. As for the items Beating the DLC in a particular way unlocks a secret boss that depending on the difficulty you kill it at will unlock caches throughout the main game with really OP items, like a +7 ring of protection in Act II, or a belt of +8 stats that also increases your crit range.

I know Legend is usually considered better for martials since you can potentially get trillion billion BAB, but couldn't you also get to CL39 as a caster with prestige classes that continue spell progression, i.e. 20 Main Class / 10 Arcane Trickster / 10 Eldritch Knight (first level doesn't give a CL increase).
pretty sure you can go 20 empyreal sorcerer 10 cleric and 10 mystic theurge to gain extra CL. i haven't tried it yet. will report back if it work in Midnight isles
CL will never go past 28 plus you have to take the 8 caster levels from prestige before becoming a legend then go back to your "main" class

On my first run through I went in blind and got a game over thanks to the Trolls because I fricked around doing shit in the mountains to the east for so long that I got the phase two announcement of them attacking wizard guys cottage before doing any investigating.

So Game gives you 90 days minus the time it takes to get to the trading post which I think is like 2 days. Even resting after every fight I don't see how you'd take that long.

I spent like 3 hours in character creation and the beginning underground section reading every tooltip and encyclopedia entry on game systems. I didn't have any tabletop experience or anything but casual dnd derived stuff like KOTOR but if you're an attentive reader it's not so bad. Still I was learning new things all the way through my first 200 hours. This guy's videos on WOTR are really good too

Yes, once you go to Threshold that's the point of no return. If you're doing the secret ending, make sure you meet all the requirements including the correct date, it only checks the day/month not the year so you can cheese it, your crusade morale will be irrelevant so don't worry about it going negative.

Insidious approach like Minagho did to Stauton is exactly what I'd expect. Arue herself describes how succubi operate and coil humans around their finger.
Yet an amazing setup for an intricate quest chain with some reoccurring NPCs who're actually demons in disguise who clandestinely toy with the KC's and the player's head is passed on... why?

you can recruit arue in the siege if you did the secret azata puzzle in desnan chapel. it also starts her romancer early too
If you revisit the Chapel map south of Drezen after you rescue everything, you can find the altar from the pic in the south of the map.
There are three items scattered on the map and in the cave. All of them are butterfly themed or related to the goddess (Desna).
If you gather all of them and place them all the altar, there will be three buttons. Each one plays a tune.
If you play the notes in the correct order, which is the tune of the Song of Elysium, which you heard in the Desna's Temple in Kenabres, you'll get an astral projection call from Arue from her cell. The correct order is middle, right, left, middle.
If you then choose to go through the jail/dungeons during the siege of Drezen, you'll find Arue in her cell where she'll recognize you and you will recognize her, which will allow you to recruit her.
Otherwise, she leaves and you can't recruit her until way later.
I think you have to be doing Azata mythic path to get her in Act 2

I was recommended to start with Kingmaker. By tradition, I always play a stabby assassin who hides in the shadows but I have been told that is impossible.

It's not, you can use any weapon you want. Slayer is rogue but with full BAB, meaning it deals more damage
Slayer can melee moron. Ranger can deal stealth damage too but they have to cast a spell
Slayer is an anything class. There's 5 main ways to play it with some variance once you know what you are doing 2H weapon, Sword and Board, Dual Wielding, Archer, Dual wielding throwing weapons. It gets access to the Combat Style feats from the Ranger class so you get to pick one at level 2 then get extra feats that support it even if you don't meet the ability score requirements (ie you can dual wield strength based weapons even though you normally need 19 dexterity).

For now but even though they dosn't get it til later it's hilarious how well Aeon Paladins and Cavaliers can brute force encounters with Perfect Form. Buff yourself up to like 50 strength through various buffs then perfect form so you have 50 charisma then smite/order bonus and swing with an extra 25 to hit and level bonus damage.

I've only used them with their basic builds, ie Seelah paladin, Regill armiger fighter, Arue espionage expert, Lann zen archer etc. I've seen some anons talk about doing other builds for them but I haven't really tried multiclassing or anything

Not really. Technically you'll get a half decent thrown weapon bonus off of Lethal stance but you are giving up all the bonuses from your regular rage song.
