Well, because unless you go full custom party, your companions lag in hard and unfair.
Or if you replay the game, you want to try different shit with the characters.
Or you pick a class a comnpanion has and thus you change their role in the party to keep them with you (hello Court poet daeran, Deliverer seelah etc).
Whether you do dips or fully go into another class, they need a step up. Up to core, they work well, though you will notice some like woljif lacking a bit.
If you are doing anything martial related you need to have a paladin in your party and Seelah is usable as a paladin, at least till level 11 after which you multiclass but pure paladin is also fine.
I multiclassed once and it was on legend playthrough where I went 20 barbarian 20 fighter
class dipping is cringe, doubly so if you do shit like monk/vivisect like a meta slave and not for roleplaying reason

Autism is really only required on higher difficulties. Core is probably mostly doable with default classes. The thing is that some shit is just too good to pass up and synergizes too well. You have literally, literally months of free time in Kingmaker. The time limits aren’t based around you having access to teleport circles (they were added later) and were STILL generous. You will literally have half a year completely free at the end of the game to explore the entire map, finish every single quest, etc

And the dwarves are lucky I need them. You know there are video game fantasy settings out there where paladins can move fast in heavy armor without multiclassing into fighter and relying on dwarf crafting.
Auto levelling is bad idea. I know the system might seem intimidating, but its much better to just bite the bullet and spend a little time understanding whats up. You cant really frick much up on normal and character building becomes part of the fun once you get a hang of it. And its not like you cant just respec for free.

Any arcane caster works, so either Wizard or Sorc are good picks. Oracle is a divine caster and works better with Angel

My ideal power fantasy is pretty much Death Adder from Golden Axe. Big ass barbarian looking evil overlord with a spiky helmet and a huge axe who can zap your ass too. After playing WOTR though I also really dig the swarm idea although even if I were to find a group to play tabletop with I can't imagine how any normal party would cooperate with a swarm wizard.

They really fricked up with the mythic paths, should have just settled with Demon/Angel and a wild card one, then filled the game to the brim with unique dialogue, instead of the lukewarm barebones shit that we ended up getting. I keep hoping that with EE they will fill in all the plot and other content holes, but it seems they are just pumping out dlc's and other shit without much thought

wotr is more modern, like you can actually turn the camera and zoom in to almost a ground level. but personally i like kingmaker a lot more because it feels like a tabletop adventure where you go all over the place and fight all kinds of things. wotr is pretty much one non stop march against demons and thats it. you never do anything but move forward and fight more demons

Undeath is worse than death in DnD or Pathfinder. People eaten by demons alive are still judged by Pharasma and go to the afterlife. But the souls of your undead slaves suffer eternally. Victory of lich creates more suffering in the world, not less.
I don't remember your character asking the opinion of every dead being in Dresen when he raises them after returning from the Abyss. At best, your lich will be remembered as "neutral" force if he decided to leave and release undead after victory. But as I understand, most people don't do this.

While the suffering from undeath is correct, this is a misinterpretation on how afterlife works in pathfinder. Person who dies doesn't "Go to afterlife", the moment they are judged, their soul is sent to whatever place their alignment puts them in, are completely stripped of their memories and are merged with several other souls to create that planes respective creature.
It's why you can't resurrect someone who's already been judged by Pharasma.
There's simply nothing left to resurrect and what was (You), simply isn't anymore.

In the end of the day Regil's approvement is the only thing that matters if you want effective. Seelah's whole questline is her being dumb. Shows her Black thief origins. Lawful and Evil characters, especially Aeon should have option to hang her for her constant subordination problems as a FRICKING PALADIN.

Since I am waiting for enhanced Wrath, I went back to playing Kingmaker ... and hoo boy, those first 5 levels were fricking pain. Wrath did much better job with early game, despite the demons having immunities and SR out the ass.
Also the quality of short people in the first game is severely lacking compared to Regill.
Wrath's early game is better because the first 6 or so levels fly by and you have tools to deal with encounters, mostly. It's the mythic progression that's utterly fricked, they should have made it so we reach mythic 9 in early early Act 5 and Mythic 10 at around the halfway mark for act 5.

Metamorph works and is quite good actually. All you need is that dagger that gives you 2 extra attacks and a few mythic abilities and you're set, just dagon it up and smack everything. Took it on hard up to act 5 without any real issue but dropped it there because it was at release and that save file is irredeemably fricked.
Yeah dragonform is probably the strongest way to do natural attacks.
Back when I did it I didn't want any form changing shenanigans, just clawing and biting dudes and that really doesn't scale well into the late game. Great early game though if you know where to get natural attacks. You can probably get up to 5 within 5 levels.
Do not play martial unless you fully understand how to stack AB.
If you really want to play martial, play sword saint.
If you don't understand why people dip, don't dip.
Don't play full caster if you don't know what you are doing and not planning to merge with angel or lich. Apart from that, choose what you like esthetically.
Everything in this game has obscenely high AC and obscenely low touch AC. This means you won't be hitting shit as normal martial unless half of party consists of your very specifically leveled buff slaves. Sword saint has ability to hit touch AC instead of normal AC, as well as transformation in spell list, which makes it the only martial class in game accessible to someone who isn't metagaming with making skald mercs and stacking 7 domains on cleric. Just pretend spell combat doesn't exist and use 2hander.
As of casters, playing one way more forgiving than in general case, because mythic feats and abilities help a lot.
Every martial class can have enough attack bonuses to have no problems with common enemies. Only bosses have AC 70+, and it's your problem if you're just trying to auto-attack them without applying powerful debuffs.
To be fair, the difficulty spikes are moronic. Everything is easy until the Vescavor Queen where she suddenly has like 45 AC, good fricking luck. Same with Melazmera, I remember she had like 86AC or someshit when I fought her, too me a ridiculous amount of buffs and debuffs to be able to smack her in melee.
They could have balanced it a bit better and not make the encounters "bring a blaster or 2 or frick off". Of course, this is for mandatory encounters only. By all means, make the optional shit hard as frick, like Playful Darkness with its 100+AC.

Someone did a write-up early on in the release of the game calculating how much AB each martial pure class could get at level 14(around Playful Darkness) without counting any mythic bonuses and with all of the basic buffs most martial parties really should have(Mark of Justice, Guarded Hearth etc.) and most pure full BAB classes ended up at 60-65 AB.
So with mythic feats and a higher level taken into account 70+ shouldn't be that difficult to hit really.
And if it is I just have Nenio Weird it to death.

Indeed. It will fail saves for phantasmal killer with persistent magic sooner or later, especially if you dispel a few buffs from it.

Vivi gets you mutagens (physical stat boost that stacks with everything), a sneak attack die and some useful self-cast spells like Shield and Mage Armor if you have the INT for it, all at level one
Monk gets an extra unarmed attack, bonuses to unarmoured AC (unarmoured is good late game where you can boost your DEX crazy high, way past the DEX cap on armour) and access to the Crane Style set of feats which grant some extra free and easy AC

Because only 1 point in those classes net you a shit ton of free benefits. Vivi gets you mutagens which are free +4 in your preferred attribute while monk dips are crazy good for martials with no armor as they add WIS/CHA bonuses to AC. That being said, you still need to know when to dip, though Vivi is quite universal, works on anything but it's not worth on everything.
I want to give this game a try but how punishing is it to go Chaotic Neutral? Plenty of games pretty much only reward you if you're progressing down a Good or Evil path, but give you basically nothing if you're just out for yourself / the party at the expense of everyone else, good or bad.
Pick the choices you want to choose. The only outright "bad" ones are the ones where you're an edgy moron who just murders NPCs on contact to evilmaxx and misses out on some vendors/questlines because of it

Zacharius is still completely right about you. Usually mortal need to spend decades to find a ritual of lich transformation. Far more if you create such ritual from nothing on your own. Master Zach did all the hard work for you, and your mother Areelu did the rest by giving you mythic power to begin with.

I should warn you, the powergaming option for this is Kitsune.
The important part is that you want to use fighter's weapon traning to turn swords into finesse weapons. Then, with mythic finesse, dex will be your godstat that covers accuracy+damage+AC+reflex+initiative. And the other mythic ability should be master shapeshifter, which is just a plain stat boost for kitsune.
There's no such thing as a legend that doesn't multiclass, because you have 40 levels to spend and classes go up to 20. If you want to stick with just two classes at lv20 each, I'd probably do mutation warrior + instinctual warrior.

Human form for Kitsune counts as shapeshifted for feats like Mythic Shapeshifter which gives +4 to all physical stats, as well as a few other bits of equipment that are really good but don't see much use

Whether you do dips or fully go into another class, they need a step up. Up to core, they work well, though you will notice some like woljif lacking a bit.
If you are doing anything martial related you need to have a paladin in your party and Seelah is usable as a paladin, at least till level 11 after which you multiclass but pure paladin is also fine.
I was the paladin on hard, so I turned her into Bard.
I multiclassed once and it was on legend playthrough where I went 20 barbarian 20 fighter

I played it after wrath and I really tried to get into it. But between the kingdom management and time limits on quests I just felt constantly on edge while playing it. Like my whole run would get fricked at any time.
Yeah they way they time gate quests is maddening. The management table or whatever it was called seemed cool but turns into a chore immediately. And dialogue choices just felt like choices for the sake of it, and nothing I say or do alters much if anything. Or if there is a choice, it's clearly "This leads to more content and saying NO locks you out of it," at which point I'm just missing out on XP.
You have literally, literally months of free time in Kingmaker. The time limits aren’t based around you having access to teleport circles (they were added later) and were STILL generous. You will literally have half a year completely free at the end of the game to explore the entire map, finish every single quest, etc

Auto levelling is bad idea. I know the system might seem intimidating, but its much better to just bite the bullet and spend a little time understanding whats up. You cant really frick much up on normal and character building becomes part of the fun once you get a hang of it. And its not like you cant just respec for free.

They really fricked up with the mythic paths, should have just settled with Demon/Angel and a wild card one, then filled the game to the brim with unique dialogue, instead of the lukewarm barebones shit that we ended up getting. I keep hoping that with EE they will fill in all the plot and other content holes, but it seems they are just pumping out dlc's and other shit without much thought

wotr is more modern, like you can actually turn the camera and zoom in to almost a ground level. but personally i like kingmaker a lot more because it feels like a tabletop adventure where you go all over the place and fight all kinds of things. wotr is pretty much one non stop march against demons and thats it. you never do anything but move forward and fight more demons
I also prefer a homely feeling to something extremely epic, I hope the writing is better at least, and the choices are less pigeonholed on tendencies

I don't remember your character asking the opinion of every dead being in Dresen when he raises them after returning from the Abyss. At best, your lich will be remembered as "neutral" force if he decided to leave and release undead after victory. But as I understand, most people don't do this.

While the suffering from undeath is correct, this is a misinterpretation on how afterlife works in pathfinder. Person who dies doesn't "Go to afterlife", the moment they are judged, their soul is sent to whatever place their alignment puts them in, are completely stripped of their memories and are merged with several other souls to create that planes respective creature.
It's why you can't resurrect someone who's already been judged by Pharasma.
There's simply nothing left to resurrect and what was (You), simply isn't anymore.

Since I am waiting for enhanced Wrath, I went back to playing Kingmaker ... and hoo boy, those first 5 levels were fricking pain. Wrath did much better job with early game, despite the demons having immunities and SR out the ass.
Also the quality of short people in the first game is severely lacking compared to Regill.
Wrath's early game is better because the first 6 or so levels fly by and you have tools to deal with encounters, mostly. It's the mythic progression that's utterly fricked, they should have made it so we reach mythic 9 in early early Act 5 and Mythic 10 at around the halfway mark for act 5.

I'm assuming that strong early-game builds are the go-to, but what are some examples? I think maybe Monk, Sylvan Sorc? I know Kineticist doesn't really pick up until you get a couple of infusions and a composite attack, but with the resource management I think it might be a decent choice as well

The only way to do a natural attack build is to stack a ton of bites and gores, but I doubt it works past core.
Metamorph works and is quite good actually. All you need is that dagger that gives you 2 extra attacks and a few mythic abilities and you're set, just dagon it up and smack everything. Took it on hard up to act 5 without any real issue but dropped it there because it was at release and that save file is irredeemably fricked.
Yeah dragonform is probably the strongest way to do natural attacks.
Back when I did it I didn't want any form changing shenanigans, just clawing and biting dudes and that really doesn't scale well into the late game. Great early game though if you know where to get natural attacks. You can probably get up to 5 within 5 levels.
natural weapon builds are some of the best in the game regardless of difficulty it just requires a ton of dipping, minmaxing and to be a lich

Yes, play hybrids. On normal difficulty, they will do everything without a need for staking attack bonuses or DC.
Everything in this game has obscenely high AC and obscenely low touch AC. This means you won't be hitting shit as normal martial unless half of party consists of your very specifically leveled buff slaves. Sword saint has ability to hit touch AC instead of normal AC, as well as transformation in spell list, which makes it the only martial class in game accessible to someone who isn't metagaming with making skald mercs and stacking 7 domains on cleric. Just pretend spell combat doesn't exist and use 2hander.
As of casters, playing one way more forgiving than in general case, because mythic feats and abilities help a lot.
Every martial class can have enough attack bonuses to have no problems with common enemies. Only bosses have AC 70+, and it's your problem if you're just trying to auto-attack them without applying powerful debuffs.
To be fair, the difficulty spikes are moronic. Everything is easy until the Vescavor Queen where she suddenly has like 45 AC, good fricking luck. Same with Melazmera, I remember she had like 86AC or someshit when I fought her, too me a ridiculous amount of buffs and debuffs to be able to smack her in melee.
They could have balanced it a bit better and not make the encounters "bring a blaster or 2 or frick off". Of course, this is for mandatory encounters only. By all means, make the optional shit hard as frick, like Playful Darkness with its 100+AC.

Someone did a write-up early on in the release of the game calculating how much AB each martial pure class could get at level 14(around Playful Darkness) without counting any mythic bonuses and with all of the basic buffs most martial parties really should have(Mark of Justice, Guarded Hearth etc.) and most pure full BAB classes ended up at 60-65 AB.
So with mythic feats and a higher level taken into account 70+ shouldn't be that difficult to hit really.

Indeed. It will fail saves for phantasmal killer with persistent magic sooner or later, especially if you dispel a few buffs from it.
Don't play full caster if you don't know what you are doing and not planning to merge with angel or lich. Apart from that, choose what you like esthetically.
Vivi gets you mutagens (physical stat boost that stacks with everything), a sneak attack die and some useful self-cast spells like Shield and Mage Armor if you have the INT for it, all at level one
Monk gets an extra unarmed attack, bonuses to unarmoured AC (unarmoured is good late game where you can boost your DEX crazy high, way past the DEX cap on armour) and access to the Crane Style set of feats which grant some extra free and easy AC

Because only 1 point in those classes net you a shit ton of free benefits. Vivi gets you mutagens which are free +4 in your preferred attribute while monk dips are crazy good for martials with no armor as they add WIS/CHA bonuses to AC. That being said, you still need to know when to dip, though Vivi is quite universal, works on anything but it's not worth on everything.
I want to give this game a try but how punishing is it to go Chaotic Neutral? Plenty of games pretty much only reward you if you're progressing down a Good or Evil path, but give you basically nothing if you're just out for yourself / the party at the expense of everyone else, good or bad.
The strongest Mythic Path in the game is Pure Chaotic Neutral

Are combat manuevers absolutely useless if you don't know what you're doing, I stupidly got Sunder Armour and the upgrade but there's never a point in using it because I'm always like 30 away from getting it off, same with Trip

The tone of Azata and Trickster doesnt really fit that well with the game though. I guess I grew up out of playing chaotic, CG especially.

Zacharius is still completely right about you. Usually mortal need to spend decades to find a ritual of lich transformation. Far more if you create such ritual from nothing on your own. Master Zach did all the hard work for you, and your mother Areelu did the rest by giving you mythic power to begin with.
Not my fault the game wont let me be a wizard like that- I would love to get my mythic powers by becoming an Archmage. Researching & experimenting across the Worldwound, seeking forbidden knowledge and performing dangerous rituals to gain more power- that would be awesome. And I could be a demonologist that actually binds some outsiders, that would be even better.

I should warn you, the powergaming option for this is Kitsune.
The important part is that you want to use fighter's weapon traning to turn swords into finesse weapons. Then, with mythic finesse, dex will be your godstat that covers accuracy+damage+AC+reflex+initiative. And the other mythic ability should be master shapeshifter, which is just a plain stat boost for kitsune.
There's no such thing as a legend that doesn't multiclass, because you have 40 levels to spend and classes go up to 20. If you want to stick with just two classes at lv20 each, I'd probably do mutation warrior + instinctual warrior.
The difference between a Kitsune and like 4 other races is 4 strength. Just get a Skald for pounce. They're really good for martials anyway.
With mythic finesse strength is no longer relevant at all, and kitsune ends up with whopping +6 racial dex and +4 con after master shapeshifter.
Probably should have actually read your entire post before replying. Completely forgot Master Shapeshifter existed, that does seem too good to pass up. In fact it sounds good enough that I want to build around it now, but I've already restarted too often after my first 2 runs.
Human form for Kitsune counts as shapeshifted for feats like Mythic Shapeshifter which gives +4 to all physical stats, as well as a few other bits of equipment that are really good but don't see much use
Use mods that return some perks from tabletop, and your dual fighter will be unstoppable.

What's the best character to turn into a Bard from the available companions? Seelah? Daeran? I don't really want to get a custom one and respeccing isn't an option on higher difficulties.
What class is your main character? Seelah is a good candidate for a Bard, but I'd argue she has as much value if not more as a Paladin.
Seelah skald is a popular choice because a lot of people want paladin for their MC. Don't need two marks of justice.
By the way, how fan is "canonical" path? Paladin angel MC with queen romance.

Aldori defender 8/swordmaster 5/duelist 7 is effective in all stages of the game when builded correctly. Immortal and unstoppable if you go legend.

The best builds require a understanding of the system to set up properly. The only build that I can think of where someone can just say "use this" and you'll make it work is something like
