Paths are a Lie

Your pokemon will not obey you unless you do the gyms. My pokemon have stopped obeying me at lv20 already since I have been exploring and doing the other paths besides the gyms. Also the gyms dont scale so if you ignore them you'll be overleveled. This game says you have he freedom to choose but you basically have to bounce back and forth between paths in order to progress in a way that doesn't make them boring. Your mounts mobility options are locked behind the titans and there are roadblocks unless you do the team battles.

You are telling me you have to do content to progress through a game? No way
    Now go back

No you have to do the content in the exact order gamefreak intended except they don't tell you what the order is and if you take a wrong turn once you'll be hopelessly overleveled for the rest of the game

If the open world was actually an open world, the paths would be comparable so you'd get some kinda token at the first path comparable to the first badge and then when you went back to do the badges all the gyms would have levelled Pokemon comprable to the 8th gym. They've just turned it into a linear open world with some light flexibility, so it's really not any different from the games where you have the option of skipping gyms until later.

then you're a bad trainer. I had pokemon I raised listening me to level 50 without getting any gym badges. when I started catching natural 30s they started being buttholes though.

Yeah I thought the not obeying only applied to traded pokemon

Why don't they make different teams for the Gym Leaders depending on how many badges which a player owns?

cause that would require actual effort on their part.

      Anonymous

Because it's not just badges, but star admins and titans too.
They'd need like 17 different team combinations based on that progress.

        Anonymous

        >and titans too.
        No..?
Only thing they'd have to do for Titans is just scale up their levels and level-up movesets

          >just scale up their levels and level-up movesets
Yes, once for every single badge or admin you beat, for them all.

not him but for titans they could jsut do like your team average + 5-10 levels so it always feels like a challenge. Not sure about the gym star raid scaling though but im sure something is better than no scaling at all for those. Its already known in the lore that gym leaders change up their team to make sure theyre challenging you for your level as a trainer so they should be doing that especially in a game like this

Even something simple like base their levels off the highest level mon in your party will do just fine with some variations.

Gym leaders: all their mons are the same or 2 levels higher with their ace being 4 levels higher (bonus points for different team composition if players level exceeds a specific point)

Titans: same as your suggestion of being flat 5 levels higher (even going above level 100 for those who think they can get away with bringing a max level mon to even out the levels)

Team star: similar to the gym leaders but also set up permanent field or hazard effects against the player (haven’t faced them myself yet so if they do that already then ignore this point).

        >They'd need like 17 different team combinations based on that progress.
Just start by crafting a fully evolved endgame-tier team of six for every boss trainer, then write a code to scale the teams down based on the player's progress then just throw a few static rules like a certain pokemon will always be on the boss's team or mons will always have a certain EV/IV spread, always know a certain TM move regardless of level, etc.

In fact doing it this way would be less work than coming up with a specific loadout for each specific level window.

Having gym scaling means if I do the Bug Gym as the last one Katy will use level 50+ Pokemon instead of 10+ ones

          >Having gym scaling means my progress will be meaningless
the game will be worse, yes.

So you want to one shot every gym leader after playing the game for a bit?

              Anonymous

The lack of scaling is the reason why I can get some gym leader that I don't one-shot.

Unless you don’t follow something like this you will have a lesser experience.
Sure you may struggle against an over levelled trainer/gym if you do a wacky route but eventually you will need to deal with a underlevelled gym you left for later.

Or... you can change your team in case the levels are lower, which you can do instantly and the game promotes.

        >Or... you can change your team in case the levels are lower
no this is stupid, the whole series is based around raising pokemon and getting good to defeat gyms and becoming the best going around and changing your team to a team of shitmon so you can feel a bit of a challenge isn't right they should have just added some sort of gym scaling

I found I was able to break order around Step 9 and push though the remaining Ground and Water titans with Grass types. Sped up the late game a bit by unlocking climbing and gliding earlier.

    >Your pokemon will not obey you unless you do the gyms.
    wrong
    >My pokemon have stopped obeying me at lv20
only the ones you caught above Lv20
    >Also the gyms dont scale so if you ignore them you'll be overleveled.
meh-tier complaint, agree it would make use of some scaling to higher levels though
    >This game says you have he freedom to choose but you basically have to bounce back and forth between paths in order to progress in a way that doesn't make them boring.
    Very much a good thing
    >Your mounts mobility options are locked behind the titans
um yeah, did you expect to be able to Rock Climb and Surf at the start of the game? Wouldn't that negate basically the whole level design of the region?
    >there are roadblocks unless you do the team battles.
not really, most you can go around

tldr either you didn't play the game or you're actually moronic

why do redditors think “open world” means “I should be able to do anything in the game I want without having to think about it”?

      >why do redditors think “open world” means “I should be able to do anything in the game I want without having to think about it”?
Because for some reason they want every game to be like BotW instead of just replaying BotW.

They don't listen to you because you caught them at a level over 20 moron.
If you caught them at 20 or under there would be no issue.
