Very little nowadays. Darktide is incredibly fun even right now, and they're fully reworking the class system so that each class has 3 different subclasses with skill trees that you can mix & match, so we're going from 4 classes to 12, but it's actually way more than that.

It was ok. The levelling system is weird or just broken and the starter gun is terrible, but other than that it was alright.
It felt like a peashooter compared to the shotgun honestly. You pointed the shotgun at somebody and they died, the rifle needed multiple sequential headshots to kill anything, and good fucking luck with bodyshots. That was just on Normal/Hard too it's probably even worse on higher difficulties.
Weird, I thought the shotgun felt really weak. Granted I only used it in the closed beta which I only got into on xbox so the controller might have influenced my opinion. I think the shotgun skills are gonna be really good in the full release
Update your drivers. Performance was terrible for me on launch but new Nvidia drivers doubled my FPS. I run super low-res settings because I play a lot of Hi-Intensity Shock Troop Gauntlet which can get crazy with the amount of shit on screen at once and I need the FPS, and the game runs like a dream. The only time it ever gets really bad is if I'm on a team with like 3 dudes with flamers or psykers with the flamer staff idk the name of it.

They could have easily copied Deep Rock Galactic in terms of weapon and cosmetic progression, and people would have sticked. Nobody likes this outlandish and aggressive rng grind. Not even the autists sticked around.
I've just booted up the game again and they barely added any armour or armour colours that are worth anyone's time. The colour palette is also bland, uninspired and forgettable. Who's going to grind his soul away over some disgustingly looking brown, white or black armour? I'd say they are just creatively bankrupt and won't make a comeback regardless of how many more updates are to follow. What a disaster.
The crafting is fine. It's really easy to get a usable or good gun but it's ridiculously hard to get absolutely perfect gear. You also don't really need it. Darktide is an easier game than VT2 unless you're playing Auric missions which stacks tons of modifiers. If they added Red-tier items like how VT2 had them it would break the game because now every weapon players have is getting a 20% stat boost when it's already a little on the easy side.

I'd say they are just creatively bankrupt and won't make a comeback regardless of how many more updates are to follow. What a disaster.
It's genuinely better than something like Deep Rock. The overclock system in that game is fucking aids because a lot of them are basically completely new, distinct guns from the base variant and there's literally no way to get them except by pure RNG. Darktide doesn't work like this, blessings will change the power of a weapon but won't make it completely different.

Yeah, no. The grind for overclocks might be shit, but once you have them you can do whatever the fuck you want with them. darktide you have to constantly deal with slot machines to even have a chance to get what you want. And blessings might not be quite as "game changing" as overclocks, but they can still significantly impact the effectiveness of a weapon

There's a blessing for combat axes called Brutal Momentum that gives them infinite cleave if you kill 1 dude with a weak spot hit. You know, the 200+ damage light attack, fast-attacking weapon with infinite cleave. They're insane. They're also in no way bad against Elites so most people just run a bruh momentum combat axe as their main melee weapon.
Power swords are still great if you have Power Cycler 4, it's got less charged attacks now but it wipes hordes just like it did on launch just less efficiently. Still shit against Elites though and I never liked them because of that. The Devil's Claw Mark 4 is my favorite weapon probably.

1 and 2 play a lot different from one another (1 is a lot harder), 2 has plenty of great stealth heists, but 3 is fully revamping stealth to allow soft failure states, viable loud/stealth hybrid builds, and a myriad of small stealth features like luring and door closing.
If you don't get the appeal of a heist then there's really no helping you.

This will never. EVER. Be a thing. You may try to force it now while the game is new but skills will always be either loud or stealth, and eventually they'll add 8 more difficulties where stealth skills will get you killed in a microsecond if a cop looks in your general direction.
Perhaps, but for now it is a thing. Whether or not people choose to use these builds or just spam restart like pussies is a separate matter. I think these hybrid builds will in part be due to the lower level of skills, I've been theory crafting with the skill website and I struggle to use up a handful of skill points.
The developers have utterly failed to realize what exactly made Payday 2 a gigantic success, which was the base game constantly being on sale for two dollars plus the ability for it to run on potatoes. The playerbase existing in the millions to buy the DLC was only there because of these.
Payday 3 lacks both of those qualities on release, and will likely lack the latter for the entirety of its lifetime.

i know there are like "full time" PD players but i don't really get the appeal. it's kinda dull. if you want horde/wave shootan on quite dynamic maps, you have L4D, if you have gun autism PD definitely doesn't provide that, the gunplay is very shallow. you're left with the whole heist fantasy, but these games hardly even seem to play into that, they are more like dumb horde shooters with a VERY light heist theme in the very background.
its not like you are doing lots of planning routes and stuff on a whiteboard like a reverse rainbow six. there's not much to do in casing mode but walk around, mark some thing, and just try to get some extra points in stealth before starting the horde shootan mode.
but i'll buy it because it's cheap and i'm sure there's ~50 hours just having fun cracking some vaults and shooting cops.
if you tap fire you kill in one hit, or after popping off their helmet. but enemies are quite spongy if you just spray. so if people are complaining its literally a skill issue.
The heaviness of the theme varies by heist, obviously all the pd1 maps are very centered on the theme, 2 meanwhile has levels that aren't about a heist at all but still crime related. >skill issue

I wouldn't say that, but they're obviously pretty different. L4D is mostly about moving from A>B on more or more maps and occasionally dealing with a horde of mostly melee enemies, whereas Payday is more about running around 1-3 maps completing a variety of objectives while dealing with a pretty constant horde of ranged enemies. Then there's the RPG elements, builds, etc.

If you played the 2 you'd know that ecm rushing gets old real fast and in the early days they had to rebalance multiple heists because it completely trivialized stealth and encouraged bad design
In PD2 ECM jammers block cameras, alarms and pagers for 45 seconds
you get 2 of them
A 4 man coordinated team can have 3 minutes of ECMS (even more with pocket ECMS)
that means that 75% of the classic heists can just be bruteforced in "stealth"
in 3 this is no longer the case (atleast in the beta heist), even if you don't like stealth loud is just about the same, mechanic-wise

It wasn't completely cosmetic when it initially released, skins could have a variety of stat bonuses on them that you couldn't get otherwise. That only lasted about 8 months though, when Starbreeze I think bought the publishing rights for Payday from 505, and made the stat bonuses a separate thing you could get for free and add to any weapon, as well as making all future safes free to obtain and open (and eventually all safes).
Yeah that was the actually shit part. They also said I think around the game's release that they would never add microtransactions to the game, so that didn't really help either.

nta but yeah they lowered the enemy count, also health is the same across all difficulties the only things that change are damage, accuracy and apparently the ai. Going loud is still a slaughter but at least in the beta ammo was an issue. You had to actually rush the objective and not just shit there shooting shit forever.
You’ve probably played the first games level in 2 but it plays better in open because it was designed for it. The heist is a great showcase of overkills supernatural ability to make shooter combat feel great. Absolutely pick it up on sale, it’s a bit more objective based

1 and 2 play a lot different from one another (1 is a lot harder), 2 has plenty of great stealth heists, but 3 is fully revamping stealth to allow soft failure states, viable loud/stealth hybrid builds, and a myriad of small stealth features like luring and door closing.
If you don't get the appeal of a heist then there's really no helping you.

This will never. EVER. Be a thing. You may try to force it now while the game is new but skills will always be either loud or stealth, and eventually they'll add 8 more difficulties where stealth skills will get you killed in a microsecond if a cop looks in your general direction.
Perhaps, but for now it is a thing. Whether or not people choose to use these builds or just spam restart like pussies is a separate matter. I think these hybrid builds will in part be due to the lower level of skills, I've been theory crafting with the skill website and I struggle to use up a handful of skill points.
The developers have utterly failed to realize what exactly made Payday 2 a gigantic success, which was the base game constantly being on sale for two dollars plus the ability for it to run on potatoes. The playerbase existing in the millions to buy the DLC was only there because of these.
Payday 3 lacks both of those qualities on release, and will likely lack the latter for the entirety of its lifetime.
It definitely has higher specs than it has any right to have, but a new game is obviously not going to sell for 2 dollars.

I have no idea why everyone's bitching about enemies having too much health
i know there are like "full time" PD players but i don't really get the appeal. it's kinda dull. if you want horde/wave shootan on quite dynamic maps, you have L4D, if you have gun autism PD definitely doesn't provide that, the gunplay is very shallow. you're left with the whole heist fantasy, but these games hardly even seem to play into that, they are more like dumb horde shooters with a VERY light heist theme in the very background.
its not like you are doing lots of planning routes and stuff on a whiteboard like a reverse rainbow six. there's not much to do in casing mode but walk around, mark some thing, and just try to get some extra points in stealth before starting the horde shootan mode.
but i'll buy it because it's cheap and i'm sure there's ~50 hours just having fun cracking some vaults and shooting cops.
if you tap fire you kill in one hit, or after popping off their helmet. but enemies are quite spongy if you just spray. so if people are complaining its literally a skill issue.
The heaviness of the theme varies by heist, obviously all the pd1 maps are very centered on the theme, 2 meanwhile has levels that aren't about a heist at all but still crime related.

If you want whiteboards, the second most recent heist in 2 (hostile takeover) has about 4-5 main objectives that can all be done any order simultaneously

L4D sucks
It about moving through areas with no other objectives aside from defending things until they move the thing out of the way to move through the area. It's a great game, but aside from there being a lot of enemies it doesn't really resemble payday at all
I wouldn't say that, but they're obviously pretty different. L4D is mostly about moving from A>B on more or more maps and occasionally dealing with a horde of mostly melee enemies, whereas Payday is more about running around 1-3 maps completing a variety of objectives while dealing with a pretty constant horde of ranged enemies. Then there's the RPG elements, builds, etc.

Yeah stealth is much more dynamic, you can do a lot more on casing mode, guards don't get alerted as long as you're in a public zone and they escort you out when you're on a private zone

I don't want to doom post but I don't exactly see how that is a good indicator, I'd argue on the contrary. Maybe if it's good I'll finally give it a try because I never played the franchise.
If you played the 2 you'd know that ecm rushing gets old real fast and in the early days they had to rebalance multiple heists because it completely trivialized stealth and encouraged bad design
In PD2 ECM jammers block cameras, alarms and pagers for 45 seconds
you get 2 of them
A 4 man coordinated team can have 3 minutes of ECMS (even more with pocket ECMS)
that means that 75% of the classic heists can just be bruteforced in "stealth"
in 3 this is no longer the case (atleast in the beta heist), even if you don't like stealth loud is just about the same, mechanic-wise

i liked the gunplay and reduced scale, but ttk felt weird
maybe its a progression thing, like early weapons arent supposed to be good, but even on normal i couldnt oneshot any of the armored cops with a revolver headshot
More Payday that feels good to play. If you liked P2, go get the basic edition for $32 on GMG and wait to grab what DLC you actually care about later down the line or for sales to snatch Silver/Gold upgrades at bigger discounts. Paying double the price of the game to play three days earlier is a FOMO retard tax, especially after their servers exploded multiple times during the last beta
Eight heists with only four more planned in the next year of battle passes seems content light coming from a decade old P2. but it's a decent start.

I feel like it’ll be better than we think but worse than they thought, we’ll find out when we have full skill points. It’s a very interesting conscript despite the buffs themselves being unimpressive
I'd rather just keep the buffs active instead of trying to cycle through them to maximize benefits.
Even if you plan out a system of gaining and consuming buffs, how are you going to keep track of how you've allocated your 21 points when they're all spread out in every tree?

I didn't play during the lootbox thing but it always seemed overblown to me, its a completely cosmetic thing that copied the system that valve has done for years
It wasn't completely cosmetic when it initially released, skins could have a variety of stat bonuses on them that you couldn't get otherwise. That only lasted about 8 months though, when Starbreeze I think bought the publishing rights for Payday from 505, and made the stat bonuses a separate thing you could get for free and add to any weapon, as well as making all future safes free to obtain and open (and eventually all safes).
(And also eventually getting rid of safes entirely and just making it so you earn skins)

It really wasn't. For an "overkill" weapon it just made cops stumble a bit with every shot that didn't hit them directly. If you really only have 12 shots with the damn thing then it really needs to feel like a massive killer weapon, which it definitely didn't.
